October Surprise: Personnel Board Clears Palin of Any Wrongdoing in Tasergate

What, they couldn't have waited for Wednesday?

They delayed this until it could not possibly get on the news at all.

The legislative committee sure got its report out in a timely manner, didn't they?

No link yet, it's just coming over cable news.

Link: Sorta. A stub on a CNN blog that says nothing more than I just told you.

Questions Answered: About the put-up job by Obama's supporters in the legislature, and about this finding by the body actually charged with determining the rightfulness of official conduct.

I'm guessing rush hour here in Detroit is going to be kind of light tomorrow.

Channeling Gen Patton:

Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech Thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate Democrats with which we have had to contend. Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as conservatives who call upon Thee that, armed with Thy power, we may advance from state electoral vote victory to state electoral vote victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our opponents and establish Thy justice among men and nations.

14 There isn't much more we can do...EXCEPT VOTE!!

I'm optimistic enough about the overall intelligence of the country to believe that we will not elect this charlatan.

I'm sticking by my original prognostication that Obama needs to be up by 7-8% if he is going to win.  He consistently underperformed the polls during the primaries, and that was without the PUMA's factored in.

McCain takes 40 states!!

Did you see the crowd that Palin pulled in today in Jeff City?  While Biden was speaking in front of 400 in Lee's Summit.

27 You know the timing on everything the msm has any hand in is dubious--particularly this time around.  At least in all the cycles I recall previously, they tried to do it somewhat on the sly.  Not this time.  That is why I was almost certain we were going to start seeing the battleground states "breaking even" the night before the election.  The prior disparity was total garbage, but it is swallowed by conservatives nearly every time (yes, Christoph, we know Allah "analyzed" and called it correctly in '06, and for your efforts you now have your account at Hot Air, etc.).

While I am cautiously optimistic, there are some pretty strong clues that seem to be indicating that McCain's and Obama's internals are telling a completely different story from what we have been handed to date.  I guess we will see for sure tomorrow.

33 The investigator is a very agressive Democrat attorney who is known to be very tough and fair. For those a bit confused by 2 reports, here's what happened:

Walt Monegan, head of the State Troopers quit/got fired. A few days later, he told a local blogger that he was tossed because he wouldn't fire Sarah's ex-brother in law. The Legislature got wind of this and voted to investigate. Palin objected, saying there was no justification for this and that the proper channel was to file a complaint with the State Personnel Board. The Leg hired an investigator, S Branchflower who found that Sarah had done nothing wrong but her husband did and she should have controlled him. That report will now go to the full Legislature for possible action but not until the Leg convenes in Jan.

Meanwhile, the Personnel Board hired an independent investigator, Timothy Petumenos. He told a press conference today he wanted to get the report out on Thurs but it wasn't done and he's been working till midnight for weeks to finish. Key to his finding is this:

These findings differ from those of the Branchflower Report because Independent Counsel has concluded the wrong statute was used as a basis for the conclusions contained in the Branchflower Report, the Branchflower report misconstrued the available evidence and did not consider or obtain all of the material evidence that is required to properly reach findings.

Posted by: JimAK at November 03, 2008 10:14 PM (wQwpR)

34 I've mentioned it elsewhere, but it bears repeating -- the first report cleared Palin of wrongdoing with regard to firing Monegan.  It's just that it also shoe-horned in a discussion of Todd trying to find out why Wooten was never punished, and used that to claim Palin abused her power by letting him do it.  The report was a complete non-issue from the beginning, but since they managed to put the words 'abuse of power' in front of the media, that's all that was reported.

Posted by: brad at November 03, 2008 10:18 PM (zTZGo)

35 Petumenos says that there is no evidence that Sarah Palin knew or approved of her husband or her employees contacting Monegan. And nobody, especially Monegan, complained or worked through channels.

When Petumenos was hired, there were those in Alaska who snickered that Sarah had stepped in it - 'She thought she'd get a yes man when she went to the Pers Board and now they've hired someone even more likely to hang her than the Leg Council.' Didn't work out that way as - surprise! - Petumenos seems to actually have read the evidence and made up his mind later as opposed to someone who had his mind made up in advance.

One other point: Petumenos has given no money to Palin. He has given $1,000 to Democrat Ethan Berkowitz who is running for US House against 30+ year incumbent Republican Don Young.

36 "that's all that was reported." - brad

And that's all they needed. A very damning statement presented as fact to the American public shortly before the election. It's impact assuredly can't be minimalized.

And it goes downhill from there...

39 I think it's funny that the Obamadrones are saying things like "Well, of course they found her innocent!  She controls them!" while completely ignoring the fact that the folks her found her guilty of wrongdoing in the first place was a committee of her political enemies.
