Yeah, (and I've got the dvd of "The Warriors"), but whats always pissed me off is that you can't find an original version of the movie anywhere. I.E.; the one shown in the theatres when it came out in '79. The only version available is the one where Walter Hill (the director) re-edited it with the comic book shit in between scenes. Yeah, so it's his movie and he can edit it in whatever fashion he wants to 25 years (+/-) after it was in the theatres, but why couldn't he give us the option of watching the original...what we saw back then?

In a way, he's out-Lucased Lucas by screwing around with the original film.

But it gets worse. About 12 years ago a local channel aired a version that had lots of extended scenes. The two most memorable were 1) at the beginning of the film an extended scene (well not even extended) of Cleon talking with his girlfriend on the boardwalk, discussing the big rally up in the Bronx. 2) The Cyrus speech, before he was shot. In the version I saw he rambled on for an extra couple of minutes and went off in a heavily political direction with extreme tones of revolution, "Black Power" and hard-core socialism or even communism. It was pure Malcom X. So it wasn't just about taking over "one borough at a time" for thievery.

I only saw that once and I've never seen it again. But somewhere out there is an uncut version with all the deleted scenes. I have no idea why Hill doesn't release it, but I guess he's an "artist" or something.

Related: A few months back I purchased the Sol Yurick novel the film was based on. (written in 1965) Original copies are hard to find (and I did manage to find one) but it looks like now the novel is in reprint.

The film stayed true to the novel in the sense that there was a big gang gathering, 9 delegates from each, Cyrus got shot and the Warriors had to make it back home to Coney Island. But that's where all the similarities end.

No Baseball Furies, no duel on the beach, no Lizzies and really no fights at all. Just confusion and a fuckload of paranoia. There are a couple of utterly shocking sections (they're shocking to this day, so imagine how this would've been received in 1965)

I won't spoil the ending, but it's nowhere near like what happened in the film.
