| Noonan, Parker, Buckley Have a Bad Case of PMSPalin Martyr Syndrome, of course. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve detected in some of the conservative critics of Sarah Palin and, to a lesser extent, John McCain, a tendency to call attention to the fact that their position has (supposedly) made them, and their dear friends, vilified figures. Vilified in this instance means they receive angry e-mails or are on the receiving end of agitated to marginally agitated blog postings. This conveniently allows for the opportunity to inject a bit of melodrama into the whole thing. The point in calling attention to their persecution seems to be to remind us, in what they hope is a subtle but not too subtle way, what intrepid and independent-minded individuals they are. It might also offer them the opportunity to distance themselves from the nasty, narrow, knuckle-dragging crowd from which they stand miles apart. They are willing to sustain the slings and arrows from (gasp) the blogosphere – and in return, they get to appear on The Colbert Report, or The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, or MSNBC, or find their pieces published in prominent national newspapers. Oh, life in this vale of tears. It’s perfectly fine for people on the right/semi-right to criticize Governor Palin and Senator McCain, though one might hope they could marshall some serious arguments on their behalf (some Palin and McCain critics have, and some have not). I’d also prefer that the differences be expressed in a relatively civil way, on both sides. But in politics, sometimes things get rambunctious. In any event, it seems to me one thing we can do without is the Martyr Syndrome. To criticize Sarah Palin or announce you are going to vote against John McCain does not take particular courage, intellectual or otherwise. And to pretend it does is to engage in an adolescent game.via Hot Air. Comments1
It takes a pretty special kind of stupid or foolish to deliberately and publicly do something that will plainly enrage people, then get upset that people seem enraged by it.

I think Steyn had the best take in his post here - there are boutique conservatives and then there are conservatives who actually live and work in a conservative world. And a lot of the boutiquers think that the latter are just icky and come nowhere close to the platonic ideal of what a Conservative should be. THE TAX POLICY THAT COULD STILL WIN MCCAIN THE ELECTION: One thing McCain is NOT good at - political judo - using an opponents strengths against him. When Obama announced his $500 tax cut for 95% of all Americans, McCain should have countered that 40% of all Americans do not pay taxes and therefore it is not a tax cut, but a welfare check. He should have said, “therefore, my campaign will be offering an $800 tax cut to everyone making under $250,000 a year who ACTUALLY PAY TAXES”. “You see folks, that’s the difference between a capitalist and a socialist. A socialist wants to spread the wealth around, a capitalist wants to let you keep more of your own money...” CONCLUSION: Posted by: Bill Mitchell at October 31, 2008 06:38 PM (3Tdbm) 7

I don't think anyone thinks they are being courageous. They are just amazed at how quickly and fully they were scorned. They were shocked and surprised by the hate mail. Amazed that people they considered friends would write them off for being honest about Sarah Palin and her lack of qualifications. (After all, we are talking about a woman who just suggested that media criticism of a person running for office violates that candidate seeker's first amendment rights!!! (yes that actually does deserve three exclamation marks, it is that pathetically, 180 degreely, wrong))

Kae:
She seems to think that either a) the First Amendment doesn't explicitly guarantee a free press (hint: it does), or b) the press is an arm of the Federal Government which can, by itself, violate the constitution (hint: it can't). This woman is a politician running for office. If the press can't criticize her and the things she says, then what? She's gonna make them stop? THAT would be a first amendment violation. Here for your, and possibly her, edification is the First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. You might note that the Press isn't Congress. Guess what, the press gets to criticize the things that politicians both do and say. If you or Governor Palin don't like that, might I suggest a number of other countries where politicians do not have to confront a free and often adversarial press? One thing about DC circuit quasi conservatives is they whine like little girls. They knew they were going counter intuitive when they took their position against the conservative candidate (well, at least Palin).
All the whining from Frum, Noonan, Parker, etc. is only intended to ingratiate themselves with their liberal kins. Now they can write their "they hate me now" tomes and have their well deserved wounds licked by Chris Matthews (when not getting that tingle) and the other ass clowns at CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. As for Noonan, she got Meet the Press, ABC with Stephe, and Chris Matthews to bask in her supposedly new found sarrow. When it turns out that McCain have a court-proof victory there are a number of things that are going to be a lot of fun to watch. Others have done a credible job of describing the obvious ones so even though I strongly believe that a thing has not been well-said until I ave said it, I'll pass this time.
But one that has not been mentioned is watching McCain and Palin deal with the prodigals that come slinking home. Posted by: Larry Sheldon at October 31, 2008 07:35 PM (OmeRL) 40
FWIW, I'd also take people who are bailing on McCain because of Sarah Palin's intellect more seriously if they weren't jumping over to a guy who on his own has made gaffes along the lines of "57 states," "New Pennsylvania," etc., and whose Vice Presidential pick hasn't gotten a number of basic facts about history and politics embarrassingly wrong himself in the last few weeks.
Obama went to Harvard Law. Obama went to Columbia. His VP pick didn't. I'm sure the University of Delaware is a fine school - but for some of the people here ragging on Palin to play school snob, when that is Joe Biden's alma mater, is a little silly. It's especially silly given that, whatever Palin's academic record, she was at least able to get through academia without plagiarizing . . . Unlike the VP they're now supporting . . . And then you've got the rest of us who'd have to think for a moment about our reaction if someone flew managed to fly a plane full of MSNBC staffers into the NY Times building. Right now Palin is the party's rainmaker. Simple as that. If McCain loses and the party brass decides to close ranks and push her out, they'll have gotten the last dime and probably the last vote they'll ever get out of me. AmishDude - Sarah Palin's attraction for me (that is, the attraction not having to do with boots...) is that whatever her personal beliefs, she's governed according to the law. She has not lunged for the political third-rail of creationism as Bobby Jindal did, she did not support an effort to ban gay civil unions, etc.
It always fascinates me to see all these folks, mostly on the left but a few of all political stripes, seem to think that anyone who actually admits to being a Christian must somehow be mentally deficient. These are the same people who will give Obama a pass on twenty years of attendance at a 'Christian' church because the pastor's more into race-baiting than faith. I'm a weddings-and-funerals Episcopalian myself, I know we've got a Bible in the house somewhere but I couldn't quite tell you where, but I know lots of evangelicals who run businesses and raise families and are just standard-issue normal people. Sarah Palin is the MAIN reason Johnny Mac has a shot right now. Without the conservative base having someone to love and fight for, he would be losing by 25 points right now. The volunteers and GOTV people are jazzed like they haven't been in a long time. That lady is something special, and most regular Americans can sense it almost right away. I've watched every campaign stop of Sarah I could find the last few weeks, and she has been on fire! Even this morning in Latrobe, Pennsylvania she had "Iron" Mike Ditka to introduce her, and he was great. This woman connects with people like noting I've seen before. She's a natural campainger, and she's right on the important issues also. She's really great on the economy from a conservative point of view, explaining in plain talk how to grow the pie for everyone(if you listen to HER, not just what the media tells you).

Any argument that Palin's unqualified falls apart when you have Super Genius Joe Biden saying completely bone-headed things every time he slips his leash. Just because someone's been in Washington for 30 years doesn't mean he's qualified for the presidency. Or anything else, for that matter, other than being one of the Senate's finest bloviators (and that's not easy, considering the competition). Biden is a buffoon on a grand scale. OK,
Lets talk about that Palin experience. Actually lets not. Lets talk about qualification. Obama and Palin have similar levels of political experience. (not really, but I'll play along) Obama has been a US Senator for a few years - Palin has been a Governor for a few years. I'd call it equivalent. Obama was a state senator for several years - Palin was a small town mayor for a few years. Let's call that equivalent. So what we have to look at are the people themselves. Obama reached, quite possibly, the highest level of academic achievement attainable. He was Magna Cum Laude at Harvard Law and was Editor of the Harvard Law Review. - Palin has only a bachelors degree (in Broadcast Journalism no less) which she earned over about 6 years and five different schools - with the University of Idaho being the most prestigious. Looking just at what they were able to achieve academically (ignoring the Community Organizing and Constitutional Law Professorship) which candidate is better qualified for a high level job? Give me a break. You guys have villainized Obama to the point where you don't even see the man any more. He is a brilliant guy. He is a true pragmatist. The President's number one job is to uphold the Constitution. Obama has taught the Constitution. Palin (in the immortal words of a McCain staffer) is a fucking "Wack Job." She's a failed newscaster. Based on her lack of understanding of what the Vice President's job is and what the First Amendment actually means (all amendments for that matter) one can only conclude that Sarah Palin likely has not ever even read the Constitution. Obama has been a US Senator for a few years - Palin has been a Governor for a few years. I'd call it equivalent.
I wouldn't. In the Senate you're just voting "yes" and "no" on stuff and making deals. Being a Governor is much closer to the job of being President. Obama was a state senator for several years - Palin was a small town mayor for a few years. Let's call that equivalent. Which, again, is just voting "yes" and "no" on stuff and making deals vs. actually running something. And - to repeat this - (since the people supporting your candidate seem incapable of addressing it): Sarah Palin is not our Presidential pick and Barack Obama is not your VP pick. Barack Obama has an impressive academic experience if you don't factor in affirmative action, which he is on record as saying he's "undoubtedly benefited from." (For the record, he did not achieve a law professorship - he was a lecturer, which is a much easier job to obtain.) Joe Biden's record in this area is far inferior. (Again, already mentioned that - can't blame you for ignoring it.) The guy graduated from the University of Delaware and was caught plagiarizing and almost kicked out of school during his time in academia. As far as the five schools bit, it wasn't as a result of incompetence/flunking out - Palin's GPA was a 3.4 when she graduated. She just didn't have the money and had to pursue different jobs and scholarships to get through - to harp on this doesn't make you demanding in your candidates when you end up siding with Joe Biden. It makes you a snob, that's all. P.S. as someone who went to a top five law school, trust me, any law school is not the "highest level of academic achievement." You have to be very clever to get into Harvard Law and graduate at the top. When it comes to public policy, government, economics, etc. you don't actually have to know jack shit -- something that's glaringly obvious whenever Obama is asked a question that doesn't presume his preexisting beliefs. Who can forget Noonan's "What I Saw at the Revolution, Then Slowly Forgot as Time went On Until I had Become A Permanent Fixture in the Town Reagan Came to Change and Able to Praise Teddy Kennedy Glowingly Yet Unable to Spare A Few Kind Words for the Most Reagan-Esque Candidate in the Race"?
Who can forget? Peggy Noonan, that's who. Nobody cares what Chris Buckley thinks except because of his father's principled and life-long opposition to the Socialist Statism that is Obamism. He's got the name, but we're William F. Buckley, Jr.'s kids. Posted by: Noel at November 01, 2008 06:57 AM (4gHqM) 64

Somehow I find it difficult to believe that a few years of voting"present" in a state senate and 143 days in the U.S Senate would do much to enhance a resume of anyone who was caucasian. I DO know for a fact that based on his who his past associates are, Obama wouldn't pass the security investigations that I've had to go through to be granted my present clearance level(s).

Posted by: Seattle Slough at October 31, 2008 06:39 PM (H5l9d) 8 I don't think anyone thinks they are being courageous. They are just amazed at how quickly and fully they were scorned. Yeah funny that. They followed the lead of the entire douchebag leftist establishment and dumped on an extremely popular conservative figure out of elitism, thus up aligning themselves with the people conservatives have been attempting to stop from stealing the Presidency for the last eighteen months. Who knew that that would result in scorn? They were shocked and surprised by the hate mail. Boo fucking hoo. Did they give any examples of this "hate mail?" Or was it just hate mail because it let them know what douchebags they are? Libtards tend to be pretty cavalier with the application of the word hate, after all. Maybe the people in question picked it up from you ass holes along with the Palin derangement. Amazed that people they considered friends would write them off for being honest about Sarah Palin and her lack of qualifications. As opposed to Barack Obama and his fucking abundant qualifications? Hey, fuck face, I'm going to apply to you a simple test I've been applying to your fellow lefty douches across the internet: You claim Palin is unqualified to be Vice President, despite her being a successful governor of a state and having run an energy board. WHAT PRECISELY IS IT that Obama has done that makes him so much better qualified than Palin that he could, nay should, be President? Exactly what is the experience Obama has that so far outweighs having successfully governed a state, that he is ready to be President when Palin is not even qualified for the number two slot? Go on. Share it with us all. Enlighten us. Pennies to pounds you won't even bother trying because you'd reveal yourself as a cowardly fuckass jumping on the chauvinist Obama band wagon about Palin's supposed lack of qualifications and you're not prepared to back it up. Oh and before you start talking shit about her first amendment comment; um yeah try putting it into context first. Then try putting Obama's comments on the "fairness" of a higher capital gains tax, and his abysmal ignorance of efficiency in tax, in any context you like. (After all, we are talking about a woman who just suggested that media criticism of a person running for office violates that candidate seeker's first amendment rights!!! (yes that actually does deserve three exclamation marks, it is that pathetically, 180 degreely, wrong)) Hm let's see, after all, we are talking about a man - who is running for President, not Vice President - who has suggested that the capital gains tax should be raised for the sake of fairness; and stuck to this even when informed that higher capital gains tax has traditionally resulted in lower tax revenue. Oh and he also just said he's going to bankrupt anyone who wants to buy or build coal-powered electricity generating capacity. Your fucking moonbat messiah is so fucking ignorant about the most basic, simple principles of economics he's a fucking joke. In fact, it's no wonder you lot are doing your frantic best to stick something, anything at all, on Sarah Palin; because you know right well that she's ten times the fucking politician and ten times the person your slimey douchebag fuck-ass is.If it took an unusual amount of courage to come out against McPalin we wouldn't have expected to see so many of you do it would we. Wait, "we" here refers to the knee-jerk bitteer clinging-ests who immediately flooded the poor damsel in distress Peggy Noonan with hate mail - or does it refer to "us" who secretly want to ridicule Palin but are too scared to do so because of the strength of conservative opinion .. Or wait a second, I thought we established it doesn't take much courage to come out against her? Hm yeah you might want to give your talking points a fucking read-through before you spit them out your keyboard. Just to try and limit damage and avoid looking like a complete and utter fucking douchnozzle. If you'd catch one of your own logic holes now and again you might end up looking like only 99.999% pure unadulterated douchnozzle. You just lost Reagan's Former Chief of Staff Ken Duberstein today. Boo fucking hoo. Does he get to vote a couple million times to make up for all the PUMAs, conservatives who don't like McCain, evangelicals, special needs parents etc etc who are voting R because of Palin? What's that, he doesn't? Oh I guess that means that you just made a douchey fool out of yourself. A-fucking-gain. How sad for you.
