Obama: You Bitter-Clingers are Also Selfish

I guess if you're not willing to "spread the wealth around," you're making a "virtue out of selfishness."

Maybe Obama and his running mate could try spreading some of their own wealth around first. My wife and I make far less than Joe Biden, but we on average give more to charity per year than the presumably un-selfish Democrat vice presidential candidate.

Obama is also ignoring the fact that overall, those in 'red states' (the bitter, clinging, selfish ones) give more to charity on average than those in blue. We're not 'selfish,' Senator. We would like to be the ones who choose where our hard-earned cash goes rather than leave that decision in the hands of you, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

Well, if we let you do that, you're just going to end up making the wrong decisions.

So now the American people are SELFISH if we don't go along with the Obama socialsit program !!! First we are unpatriotic now we are selfish. WHERE DOES THIS GUY GET OFF ??!!  Not to toot my own horn, but I gave more to charity in the last 5 years than those two assholes combined !!!! How many times will Senator Government slap the electorate in the face?

This is why he will lose. The media wall protecting him has him thinking he can talk to poeple any way he feels like.

He has stuck his foot in his mouth more than any  candidate.

He really has not run a good campaign. If he were treated like Mac he would be losing big.

I know everyone says Mac has ran a bad campaign, no he has not. It is an illusion from the MSM and Axelturfers. When you run against a man like Senator Government who has a billion to your 100 million and a fawning press. It is pretty difficult to cut through and be percieved as running strong.

Mac has had a strategy and they played it the way they planned from the begginning.
We will win in a year we were never supposed to. Why? because they knew what it took to defeat the messiah.

Selfishness is when you make sure you and your family are provided for so that none of them has to go on the public dole. Altruism is when you make other people support your loser brother-in-law who can't hold a job and is always trying to crash on your couch.

According to Obama, it's selfish to want to keep the money you earned, but not selfish for someone to want that money given to them.   It seems to me that the only people who will go for this are those who think they will be on the receiving end of the wealth spreading, or those that make so much money they can afford to pay higher taxes and not even notice (although nothing is stopping them now from paying more taxes or donating to charity).  And according to the Dems they are morally superior to those of us stuck in the middle who want to keep their dough and decide themselves how to spend it or give it away.

Yes, the MSM has covered heavily for Obama- I'd guess 10% of his numbers derive from that.

However, for those claiming that McCain has run a good campaign- tell me what issues McCain is making a strong case on with voters for that do not involve comparison to Obama.

You can't win simply by reminding everyone that the other guy sucks and that you were a hero 35 years ago.  The McCain camp hasn't build a solid theme behind him; instead he's been all over the map, relying mostly on criticism (albeit legitimate) of The One.

But I have never hated and despised a Democratic Nomninee like I do Obama.

I do not like this man. At all. I really strongly dislike him.

It sounds harsh, but I think he is so full of ill-will and has managed to hold a reputation for thinking otherwise to enough people that it has created a visceral reaction in me.

I despise the fact that he is so fundamentally opposed to the person he claims to be that it has created an unhealthy hate.

I don't like it.

I'm am hoping it is just the heat of the election season and it will go away. That it's not as intense as it feels but just anger at how he's managed to get away with what he has so far.

But it's not healthy for anyone for a person to feel the way I do about this man. I am kind of ashamed in a way. Does my presence here make this a strongly dislike-site?

73 Ace, just sent you an e-mail on this topic:

As of today, Friday 10/31, the County of Los Angeles had not delivered ballots for the veterans hospitalized at the VA facility on Wilshire Boulevard.

Sources at the hospital report that usually such ballots are readily available, but the county is claiming to be 12,000 ballots short and none have been sent over.

If ballots are not delivered, the patients and residents of the facility have only two options: to send a proxy with a signed authorization down to the Registrar's office in Norwalk to pick up a ballot, or to somehow check out of the hospital, make their way to their registered polling place, and then make their way back to the hospital for readmittance.

This is an absolute scandal that this matter has not been addressed four days (two working) before the election.

Spread the word, and ream Los Angeles a new one.

to all: born again Christian here in NC (where McCain/Palin will win).  Some of you may have heard about the story of Esther in the Bible.  If not, please go read the story in Esther right now.  It is many people's belief that Palin is the modern day Esther and has been raised up for such a time as this.  Esther, and those around her fasted and prayed for 3 days and God saved her people. We are asking all that believe that JESUS DOES EXIST, DOES RULE FROM HEAVEN AND DOES LOVE US, to fast and pray.  Eat all you want Saturday.  Then do not eat after supper Saturday.  Do not eat at all Sunday.  Do not eat at all Monday. Fast all day Tuesday as well but plan a feast for Tuesday night to celebrate. God will move for us!  You can drink water of course at any time during the fast. When you think of food, pray to Jesus.  Ask him to put a new Esther in the White House for such a time as this. Ask him to save us from this evil we are seeing that is planning on the demise of this great nation.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.2 Corinthians 7:14

83 ps, Obama has already backed off on the 95% getting a tax cut.  You might want to listen a little more closely.--  Jackstraw

Obama's retreating to his point of origination Senate vote to deny the extension of Bush's tax breaks that defined the breaking point between poor and the "wealthy" ripe for MORE TAXATION around $40K/yr.

That any candidate would use abusive language to label opposition as racist, bitter, clingers, full of antipathy for others, selfish while naming himself a "uniter" and encouraging government officials to perform fascistic measures against innocent citizens while thoroughly corrupting the nation's economy and electoral process proves that candidate's intolerance and emotional instability and social inability to work as anything except as a RADICAL AUTHORITARIAN READY TO DISH OUT PUNITIVE MEASURES AT ALL LEVELS OF OUR EXISTENCE.

"I love rich people! I want all of you to be rich. Go for it. That’s the America dream, that’s the American way, that’s terrific.”

Hmmm…I guess pursuing “rich” is OK, but trying to be middle class is just part of the ploy to put blacks in, um, concentration camps. His ol' church would  not be happy:

1.       Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness." Classic methodology on control of captives teaches that captors must be able to identify the "talented tenth" of those subjugated, especially those who show promise of providing the kind of leadership that might threaten the captor's control. Proverbs 3:13-14 - Happy are those who find wisdom and those who gain understanding, for her income is better than silver and her revenue better than gold.

Those so identified are separated from the rest of the people by:

o        Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another.

o        Placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons.

Seattle-

I thought you wouldn't remember.  Liberals are like that.

Mr. Clinton, speaking at a news conference a day after saying he would have to "revisit" his tax-cut plan, said Americans voted for him because of the "big things" he wanted to do.

The middle-class tax cut, he said, was not among them.

He said he was "absolutely mystified" that the news media had perceived it as a major pledge. In interviews Wednesday, Mr. Clinton said that, because of worsening deficit projections,"I have to put everything back on the table."

Mr. Clinton spoke throughout the campaign of the need to redress declining middle-class incomes during the 1980s. He proposed a tax cut for the middle class nearly a year ago, in New Hampshire, and repeated the pledge frequently.

Seatlle Slough says-

There is another word for the "poor" voters (meaning the 95% of the us who actually get more money to do with as we please under Obama), that are supporting McPalin - that word is "stupid."

Then he says-

Not as if Presidents can magically waive their magic president wand and raise or lower taxes anyway.

Why are you worried about what I am talking about..you don't even know what the fuck you are talking about in the same thread.

100 It is a fact that the citizens of European countries that have some of the highest taxes in the world and pro-socialist governments contribute the smallest percentages of their income to charity.  Americans are well known for their generosity to charities that serve people in need.

This asshat (Obama is to whom I refer) sees the Federal Government as nothing more than the Red Cross or Salvation Army to give hand outs to the needy (they define "needy") by taking it by force from the rich (as they define "rich).  God demands only 10% and Obama wants to make it almost 40%.  Watch the level of giving drop as fast as the Dow Jones.

I beginning to think of laundering my money, all right, but not through the Feds.  I wonder how many others are thinking the same way.  I've done business with people in several countries where the income tax rate is obscene (Denmark, mainly) and despite their eagerness to tell how how great all the "free" government services they get are, I've noticed they all want to be paid in ways that will let them evade taxes.  In general, high-tax countries have a thriving and well-organized black economy that even real businesses use regularly.

117 Last minute strategy for the McCain campaign.

1. Hit Obama on this selfish comment, play the audio, cut campaign commercials, every slip of the tongue hurts, the only way to get it played in the mainstream media is to constantly talk about it on the trail.

2. Don't forget the Richardson slip that rich now starts at 120,000 K, and the NY Times talking about 100,000 K

3. Over at National Reviews the Campaign Spot, Obi Wan Kenobi talks about Reagan's monday night 30 minute speech before the 1980 election broadcast on the major networks.

Somewhere McCain must have 3 to 5 million to make a similar play. A final dramatic speech just might be worth a couple of points in the polls.

I am going to get back on my hobby horse. You have to pay attention to how liberals define the words they use. What Obama describes as selfishness is not selfishness at all. It is the God-given desire to look after our own personal interest, which includes the will to live. Liberals get on their podium and act like they are holier than thou, but they are extreme hypocrites as the data on their charity amply demonstrates. Personal interest is not selfishness. If you want to read a good illustration of selfishness, read Silas Marner by George Eliot.

The Bible encourages charitable giving, but never assumes that one ignores self. To do so would place one on the welfare roll along side the one he is trying to help. It is interesting what the apostle Paul says in 2 Thessalonians 3:6-13, especially verse 8: we did not eat anyone's bread without paying.

For an economy to function, society must encourage self interest.

It is stupid to look at Obama for wisdom on this matter for two reasons. One, he is hypocritical and does not practice what he preaches. Second, he does not know what he is talking about. All he is doing is he is spouting Marxist ideology.

BHO comments like "sharing my toys," "virtue out of selfishness," and "when I spread your wealth around" should alarm all who believe in liberty and private property.  Dems deride what they call the "I've got mine" ethic, oblivious to the disastrous results of a "We've got yours" dynamic, or a "We've got nothing" dystopia.

I'm sad to report that just about everybody I know in my offline life is welcoming the coming socialist welfare state.  So disgusted are they with W, "the rich," and the economy, they're champing at the bit for their "free" health care and refundable tax credits.  I try to speak up for economic liberty, but it's like pissing into the wind.  *Sigh*

I can hardly wait for Tuesday. This would be a great campaign if it weren't for the fact that McCain is a complete klown who either unable to or willfully chooses not to push Barry's nose into the verbal turds he and Biden leave on the linoleum. Instead of watching a political cage match, I'm stuck with watching my candidate trying to tickle his opponent to death. Which, BTW, is occurring amidst an unprecedented level of voter registration fraud, voter fraud, poll manipulation, illegal campaign contributions, in the tank media and astroturfing.

I busted my butt just to make sure my Dad's absentee ballot was submitted in a manner that it cannot be challenged. And I'm voting this Tuesday. But win or lose, Republicans have to learn a lesson from this year:

Never Again

Restructure the primaries. For example, make getting rid of open primaries a #1 priority. In states where you can't do that, give those state two delegates to the party convention. Tell the Fundamentalists and Evangelicals that if they want to take their ball and go home they'll have the blood of tens of thousands of aborted babies on their hands. It's the truth, after all.

Play real hardball, capiche?

Never, ever again.

159 It is not unusual for a politician to run for more than one office. Then he gets to pick (sometimes) which one he wants. I never blame anyone for running for any office. I blame the voters if they elect an idiot. (Hint: I fully intend to blame everyone that votes for Obama.)

#157.

You just got to the root of our current difficulties. The reason McCain is on top is because too many states let too many non-Republicans vote. I am sorry to say I do not know enough about the law in this respect to know what a solution would be. I think in my own state of Texas, you have to be registered with a party to vote in their primary, but I don't know that for a fact, because I have always been a registered Republican and I have always voted in the Republican priimary. (That does not mean I am happy with the Republicans this time around.)

I encourage everyone to do what they can to improve that situation.

Seconded.

My girlfriend works at a childrens rehabilitation center that was started by a wealthy philanthropist and is funded heavily to this day from donations.  Who donates?  Mostly evil corporations and the "rich".  Who benefits?  Primarily they service patients below the poverty line.

So Obama can spare us all this "selfishness" bullshit.  People step up in ways government can't.  It drives me nuts.  People rip W a new one for being stubborn with his policy in Iraq.  Yet these libs, and many republicans too sadly, are all about expanding failing government programs again and again.  The programs continually fail, and yet their answer is always more money.  Nobody calls them stubborn though.  No, no!  They are being compassionate, and we are being selfish.

They can't do the kind of work we can do for ourselves.  Wake up people, and don't fall for this trap!

165 Well, if Obama wins he will turn the USA into a "peoples republic", democracy will vanish in all but name, and we will see an unsustainable welfare state that will ineveibatly collapse into dictatorship.  Seattle Slough, Diedreg Dog and any other trolls reading this - don't say you were not warned.

166 Selfish? Like how he's treating his aunt and half brother? Selfishly? Hypocrite.

Posted by: Christopher Taylor at October 31, 2008 05:41 PM (0+Ggj)

167 The kind of selfishness that Obama apparently opposes (and as Glenn Reynolds noted was promoted by Ayn Rand in her famous book "The Virtue of Selfishness") is a completely noble and moral American virtue. This country was founded on the principle that men and women had the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" free from government interference and tyranny.

Many immigrants (such as my parents) came to this country precisely to be able to work hard, prosper, and give their children a chance for a better life. They came to this country with little more than the clothes on their back, but did well over the years, sent two children to college and medical school, and are now enjoying a well-earned and comfortable retirement. Their life has been a real-life embodiment of the American dream.

If we want America to remain a beacon of hope to millions around the world, we should re-affirm our commitment to free markets and capitalism, and reject calls for more socialism and "redistribution of wealth".

This country is great precisely because it allows people like my parents to attain selfish goals such as their lives and happiness. Americans should be proud of that fact, not condemn it.

177 Can't believe it took Ace's presumably way-right-of-center readers 167 comments on a story whose key terms are "virtue" and "selfishness" to elicit Ayn Rand's name in opposition.

But, then, this is a wacky election; after all, the formerly Rand-inspired REASON magazine is overwhelmingly supporting the guy who just pissed on Rand's grave over the admittedly massively-flawed McCain:
