And a young presidential candidate puts a big bear hug around the electorate's largest demographic by repeatedly promising a middle class tax cut.

Now there are campaign promises and there are Campaign Promises. This one is historic because not only was it quickly broken, but within months it was replaced by the Largest Tax Increase In American History. Quite a switch --- did I mention that The Crying Game came out in 1992 as well?

Broken promises of middle class tax cuts? We'll meet again.

myiq2xu, I'm not getting into pissing match over Clinton's presidential record --- I'm simply illustrating how quickly and dramatically campaign promises can be jettisoned. Especially before YouTube came along.

Obama's making the same promise, but unlike Clinton, he's doing it in the teeth of a $700 billion bailout. We'll never see that tax cut.

By the way, the peace was earned by Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Margaret Thatcher, Lech Walesa, Vaclav Haval, Pope Jean Paul, and American soldiers, sailors, and military and physical scientists, including those behind the MX Missile proposals and the Strategic Defense Initiative.

The prosperity you refer to came about as a result of lowered taxes introduced by Reagan which allowed private citizens and, yes, corporations to stimulate the economy greatly. The Clinton tax increases eventually reversed those gains (although he did a good job with welfare reform) and in part his military spending cuts, but especially his own character issues which causes him to commit perjury under oath against an American citizen, denying her her basic rights to redress... lead him to being impeached.

This took Bill Clinton's eye off the ball and coupled with his tendency to look at terrorism as a law enforcement matter even when it included attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York and a U.S. navy ship. This allowed for the growth of al Quaeda and successful strikes on the United States within the first year of Bush's first term, which did several things including a great attack on the American economy and financial system. And death.

However, I repeat, Cuffy... why are you tempting me into fighting with the PUMAs 4 days out?

Barack Obama voted for tax increases on Americans earning only $42,000/year in the Senate. He was the most liberal member of the Senate, after all. Since he's a Marxist, that makes sense.

Just to set the record straight: President Clinton did not break his promise to cut taxes for the middle class. President-Elect Clinton broke that promise, before he was even inaugurated.

18 With all the PUMAs coming over here, I also want to say that this may not be the time to start with the Clinton-bashing. First, because a McCain win on Tuesday is going to owe a LOT to PUMAs. Second, while I was never a Bill Clinton fan (to put it very mildly), he's risen by leaps and bounds in my opinion every time he has opened his mouth over the last 2 months. Even when he says something kinda sorta "for" Obama (like yesterday), there's always a backhanded slap in it.
