Well, I don't know if one will step forward. I can guarantee, though, that if the goods are delivered the blogosphere can contribute $20,000. In a matter of hours.

Maybe more. More would depend on the tape.

This offer ~~includes~~ is particularly directed towards Los Angeles Times employees. Maybe ones that just got fired. Or will get fired in the next couple of weeks.

Pretty pathetic that we have to try to bribe "newsmen" to release newsworthy tapes.

Yeah it just went up five g's. If I can get $5 grand in a donation drive, I'm pretty damn sure I can get $25,000 for the tape.

And no, not a stunt. One little blog gets $5 k in a donation drive. Something like this, with every blogger linking the donation button, would easily get in excess of $25,000.

PS: Don't donate to me for this. I mean, donate to me, sure, but it's not going into a special pool. That would be money for me, for hookers and Centipede.

If a guy comes to me offering it, I'll set up the special account. Or he can do it. Only if I specifically say "Donate here for the tape" etc. is the money actually going for the tape.

Seriously, it's pretty easy to get the money.

If that's what it takes to get the Los Angeles Fucking Times to produce genuine news, so be it.

Legal Niceties: Someone writes in about escrow and such.

Well, sure, we can do that. Present proof of the tape (like let me see it) and I'll set up the account and we can hire lawyers to set up escrow.

A guy connected to political donors says they can be tapped if someone really has the tape.

I guess I shouldn't have set this up as an off the wall idea. It's just that I know, based upon just this site's own readers, $25,000 is not a lot of money. Forget tapping into Republican big-money donors. Well, let's not forget about them -- I just know that $25,000 is easy-peasey even without them.

With them... well, it's more.

At any rate, the offer is serious, and yes, upon contact by a someone serious and evidence that the tape is in your possession, we can get cracking on escrow.

From what I understand, that's a serious misrepresentation. The International Republican Institute, a U.S. government-funded operation, gave a group that Khalidi helped found in 1993 (Center for Palestine Research and Studies) with a multitude of other people just under $500K during the 90s. McCain chaired the IRI during the time.

Other sponsors of the CPRS include the Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Jerusalem Fund, and Japanese Embassy. Khalidi simply helped found the group they supported.

This is an interesting idea and I don't mean to throw cold water on it, but the way its phrased in the post makes it sound kind of fanciful, when you make an offer followed by something to the effet of "I can easily raise the money."

I'm not saying that you can't, but unless someone really is familiar with the blog, they won't know that and are likely to dismiss it. It is best to make some offer that you can commit to in some credible way that is legally binding or something - something that distinguishes you from just some guy at a keyboard.

That's just my moron read, though, not an actual valid analysis. Maybe its fine and I'm just being overly critical.

3.) Everyone in the world knows the tape exists.
4.) The McCain campaign obviously new it existed before any of this recent hype
5.) The McCain campaign is now demanding the LAT release the tape

So, what can we gather from this?

1.) I think the McCain campaign has a copy and has watched it over & over & over.
2.) They have waited for the last cycle to release it (likely through a surrogate)
3.) Now that there's hype (where did it originate????) and everyone knows the LAT has a copy, McCampaign sees an opportunity to continue with the MSM bash, keeping the biases fresh in people's minds.

Also, if the tape does show O in a benign or positive light, then there is nothing in the tape that would warrant someone keeping it confidential.
