John Murtha on Lt. Col. Bill Russell's Chances: "No Goddamned Way" UPDATED: Vid

Goddamned?

I say that sometimes, but I try to avoid that (more than I avoid "suckers of cock")...

Isn't that considered blasphemy by religious people?

Least of Murtha's problems anyway.

3 Yup.  It's why we reacted so strongly to 'rev.' Wright's 'prayer' for America.  Murtha's comment isn't as bad as Wright's, unless he was speaking from a pulpit.

This once, though, I'll just be amused that things are so bad for the Marine-basher that the phrase slipped out.

Fat Jack said there was no goddammed way a carpetbagger from Virginia (as opposed to a douchebagger from Chicago) would win.

7 Shit, I make a fine art of cussing and enjoy slinging around some motherfuckers, cocksuckers, a even the occasional cunt.  But, I never use the GD word.  That is one of the big 10, so I take it pretty serious.

HOWEVER, there are millions of folks out there that find it offensive, and any decent politician should have enough self-control to banish that word from their vocabulary.

Actually, I'm one of those that find it extremely offensive, though I put its use down to ignorance.  My point is assuming this quote even sees the light of day, it's used so much in common society that I doubt it'll affect folks that were still going to vote for the slime after the Haditha remarks.

33 I'm a devout Christian and I use it from time to time. William F. Buckley (devout Catholic) wrote an interesting defense of "goddam" in the early 90's in response to an old lady who took him to task for using it. Maybe it made it onto teh intarwebs somewhere.

35 Ya know, one of the reasons I like this blog is that cussing is not frowned upon.  However, if I were running for office and on a live camera feed, I would definitely try to sound a little more dignified.  Jack Murtha is every bit the dolt he makes himself out to be.  And Bill Russell's phone bank sounded very busy when I called to send him a few bucks earlier.  We need to post that contact info on every conservative website.

McCain's smiling head grafted onto Truman's body, holding up that newspaper with the words "Obama Defeats McCain" replacing the more famous quote.

50 I can't believe this.  It's not polite Christians that say this is blasphemy!  You do recall this line, don't you:  Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.  If you say "God _____" in a perjurative way is against God's commandment.

I saw that earlier and thought that couldn't be good politics.  Doubt that plays well with the senior demographic.

57 Rendell:  PA Could Slip From Obama
There was an interesting piece in my local paper that gives some insight on why Rendell made the urgent call to Obama to campaign in PA.  It seems the polls are pretty soft.  Murtha is part of the problem though Rendell thinks he should still be reelected because he has done so much for PA.  The biggest issue causing Obama to lose support, though, is the redistribution of wealth and tax issues seems to be resonating in PA.

59 I had a Jesuit teacher who gave an interesting rundown on "God damn" and its various iterations.  If you actually are calling for God to damn something, then its use is proper.  If you are not, then its use is not.  The specific example he used was "God damn lima beans." From most people, that would be blasphemy.  For the Jesuit, however, it most certainly was a request....

I'm not in PA so can't vote there. Not legally, anyway. Should I contact ACORN? iirc, "carpetbaggers" were Yankees coming down to exploit the South in Reconstruction days. Piss poor analogy, John. How many of those racist rednecks voted for Lynn Swann last time around? Piss poor logic, John.

I see a lot of mouths flapping. #71: BTDT last week. Since I can't vote there, I gave Mr. Russell a token plastic Grant. I'm not in MN either, but I did likewise by Ms. Bachmann. I don't doubt matching Grants will still surely be appreciated. Or does this make me a carpetbagger? What would the Ministry of Truth say about out-of-district people making political contributions to Republicans? I assert my own lack of prejudice by supporting Russell even though he is not a former Marine.

Oh btw websites for those people both accepted my credit card without a murmer. But then I naively used my own name and address.
