Get On the Bus: GOTV Information Added
Rasmussen: Striking Distance in Pennsylvania

Seven points.

Hey, NJ and NY morons. Even Connecticut morons. You know there's not a damn thing you can do in your own states.

How about a working vacation for 2-3 days in Pennsylvania, Saturday through Sunday?

Pennsylvania's nice. Lovely foliage this time of year. And it's filled with racists and bitter clingy people with guns and Bibles, so you should fit right in.

It's not that hard. And besides, you can go out and take over bars with your fellow morons after seven. Then maybe go out in your Ford trucks and run down homosexuals.

This is Sort of What I Mean By the GOP Getting on the Stick: Seriously, if the GOP gave me a hotel room and transportation, I'd do this. Now, I'm not a celebrity, but I do have readers who might decide to come along with the AoSHQ crew if we were all, say, knocking on doors in Bucks County or wherever. If there's a social thing afterwards.

There are a lot of bloggers people would sign up for. Jeff Goldstein in Colorado, for example, and all of his readers heading out to get out the vote, then having drinks afterwards. Captain Ed in Minnesota. The Red Staters in Virginia. Iowahawk, wherever he lives.

Allah on his couch, yelling at empty bottles of Jack Daniels that they just don't get it.

Door to door during the day, blog party at night. People are more willing to shell out bucks for a good cause if it's not merely work, but a bit of fun too. Combination GOTV and meet-up.

I mean, these are trivial expenses for the RNC. I'd pay myself but I don't pay my way for stuff like this anymore -- I'm dirt poor as it is and I can't afford to book hotels and planes for this sort of thing.

It's too late now, of course.

Swing State Lodgings? Some readers are asking if anyone can put them up for a weekend to do this.

If you're in a swing state, have a spare bed, and can sleep through the sounds of reckless masturbation coming from the rumpus room all night, maybe say so.

Ohio Canvassers? Email me if you have any intent; a reader wants you to email him. I don't know if it's about getting together to go in groups or lodging. Or him abducting you and selling you into forcible Thai prostitution.

It's going to be cool and fun, no matter which one.

Subject line "Ohio Canvass" so I can search easily, thank you.

Oh boy! They still have Skidmark derbies in PA? AWESOME!

The PUMAs at Hillbuzz say its even closer. Actually they say McCain owns the state aside from Philly, but I'm taking that with a box of Mortons. Although Barry HO did make an emergency trip there, so maybe there's some truth to it.

12 What is the party id spread on that poll?  While on that point, does anyone know a good reference point to get the samplings for the state and national polling?  Occasionally I see it on the nat'l ones and I am skeptical of many of those.  Rarely do I see the party id samples on the state level ones.

Kos pats himself on the back for being a CENTRIST on his site and declaring the brilliance of Howard Dean. Make the fucker cry, please.

To motivate you, please see the following comment posted by one of Kos' centrist siblings:

As a Southerner, I'm just appalled at how ungentlemenly these assholes are. I'd really like to see this Hippy's "big head" explode when his messiah bites it in Pennsylvania.

17 Could the Phillies win McCain the election? If the series stretches to seven games, it'll be getting real close to the election. Phillies win, and you throw in a victory parade, all of southeast PA (very blue) may have a lot less motivation to vote-- they'll be a lot of hungover folks not even thinking about the messiah. We should all be rooting for Philly in seven.

22 Ace, your section above on "the GOP Getting on the Stick" is right on- I have been wondering for a while now why they don't do a better job matching up hosts with out of state volunteers. What you are talking about is even better.... awesome ideas about Blog GOTV + get-together.

I imagine the hippies are better at this sort of stuff- they all just pile in the van and go. Find a place to stay upon arrival. Meet some like minded hippies and marxists who'll say, "Hey why don't you guys just come crash at my place? My fascist dad is a rich businessman, we've got room for all of you."

I lived in Connecticut.  It is a strange state.  On one hand you have a lot of  decent middle-class people, then you have the very, very rich in the Fairfield Darien area.  Then.........we have tons of lowlife in all colors.  And everywhere they live, the turn it into a shithole.  In fact people have told me there are signs in various places down south and in Puerto Rico...telling people to go to Connecticut because we give out the most welfare.  And it is true.   For that reason, I hate this state.

The rich are usually the phony liberals, the lowlife is always looking for someone to support them, and some middle class still think the demo are for them and not the mean republicans....hence it is a blue state.

Fellas, did some quick math over at RCP.

There were ten polls released today on the national race. If you take the two versions of Gallup and average them, and then throw out the best and worst numbers (Pew's -15, Battleground's -3) and average the seven figures, the figure is -5.35%.

Five percent nationally, with McCain trending in the right direction, most of the other national polls used in that average having messed up partisan skews, and knowing that Obama during the primaries averaged 7 points worse in actual votes than he should have done according to the polls.

We are more than just close to Obama on this one. We are up in his freakin grill.

54 makes no sense why spend time in a state your up 7% with 7 days to go.  you should be in states that are a toss up  7% is not a toss up  this late in the game.  Therefore either Obama and Rendall and McCain are idiots or the public poll is wrong.

Why not just have everyone from the surrounding states just go vote?

It works for the Dems...

Posted by: thebronze at October 28, 2008 07:08 PM (trCLk)

57 The PUMA's are saying that 80% of the polls are pure BS and over at HotAir the people at Real Clear Politics are wondering what the deal is with the weird poll numbers. Add to that the story from Hillbuzz from an Obama staffer saying "yeah, we jacked with all the polls... Obama is easily at leat 5% behind what they say" and I think there's reason for cheerleading even in the face of death here.

The sting of optimism about "oversampled Democrats" still lingers from the 2006 elections I'm sure, but this is a whole new ballgame. Between the Media, the Mega Rich, the Establishment, the Government, and the Cult of O! all whoring their asses off to make it sound like O! is inevitable - PLUS all the people who (rightly) fear persecution for sounding any opposition to The Chosen One - I think we can say with confidence that the perception here isn't matching reality.

Posted by: bitter, clinging Pennsylvanian at October 28, 2008 07:27 PM (bd68Z)

72 Anyone check out the new Suffolk poll for NV? It's The One +10. That just seems to be too high so I read the internals. 450 LV polled. With leaners it was 226 Obama, 180 McCain with 10 undecided and 20 refusing to answer with the rest going to Barr, Nader etc. Why would you refuse to answer? Who do you think they are voting for? I just can't believe that all 226 of the Obama people are telling the truth and that's not because they are racists. I just think that there is so much pressure to be for Obama that people don't want to admit that they aren't voting for the guy. If the refusals are reluctant to tell who they are voting for for the same reason then I think this thing is basically tied. I may be a bitter clinger but I think Mac can pull this out. I'm sure that there is a polling expert that will tell me you can't read polls this way but I've got to keep hope alive.

84 Seven points my ass. McCain's internals last week had him +4 in Pennsylvania. Another lying sack of crap poll.

As to the poster above who is busy recalculating the national polls. Don't waste your time. Between absurd skews on the order of +10-15 for Mediacrats, liars, won't-answer-the-phones and the Bradley Effect generally, every single one of them is wrong. The hang-up rate is 80 percent. That's the hang up rate, mind you. What do you suppose the actual response rate is? If they get three out of ten people to answer the phone and only two out of those 10 actually respond, that means 6 percent of those polled are in the pool of respondents. Do you think there might be something funny about those 6 percent, or are they just everyday Joes?

Ignore this crap. The trends are interesting, but the answers are simply DEAD WRONG. The race is very close, but McCain is surging and picking up undecideds at a dramatic clip right now. He is pounding Precious every day, and Precious has nothing to hit back with. Oil prices are going down, the stock market is going up, and we're killing bad guys in Syria and Pakistan.

Stand up. Stand up. Stand up and fight! Nothing is inevitable here!

Wow, I'd love to go to PA, but current life events are prohibitive.

But I'll provide you fine people with some insight from my friend in Philly who is heavily involved in dem local politics there. He told me 3 things 8 months ago about this election. In order...

The only repub that can win PA is McCain.

The only dem that can lose PA is Obama.

And last, pay no attention to the PA polls until exactly 1 week from election day, claiming that all polling prior are rigged.

FWIW, the next time he's wrong about dem politics will be the first time.

93 Iowahawk, while I understand the need for a spontaneous Cook County sales tax holiday, I wouldn't advertise getting the google maps first.  That'll make you the one guy of the million they bother prosecuting.

If there's a concentration of Korean immigrants in the area, I'd avoid them.  Go look for the video on youtube from the LA riots.

On a serious note, I hope the riots are contained to the city.  I live a little too close in the suburbs for comfort (and without adequate "home defense" if it comes to that).

97 And if you can't travel?  MAKE CALLS!

FROM TEAM MAV:  Special Request to Make "Keep Your Money" Phone Calls Wednesday Night

Several months ago, Senator Obama broke his own promise to the American people to participate in public financing alongside John McCain. Tomorrow evening, Senator Obama will use the money he has raised from breaking that promise to air a 30 minute informercial.

We have no doubt his words will be eloquent, but we do not believe he will tell you the truth. His teleprompter will say that he will cut taxes for 95% of Americans, but the unscripted truth is that he will take and redistribute your hard earned money (i.e. "spread the wealth around").

To spread the truth during this 30 minute commercial, we are asking everyone to make "keep your money" calls to voters. Our goal is to make thousands of phone calls during that the thirty minute time period so that we can deliver the truth about Obama's plans to "spread the wealth around."

Please join us in this effort. You can help in one of two ways:

Go volunteer at your Local Victory Office

Use our Voter2Voter Phone Bank
to make calls from home

http://www.johnmccain.com/PhoneBank/

We only have 7 days left to stop Senator Obama from spreading the wealth around. Take action today!

No bias at NYT's -- this is the fifth paragraph on Joe the Plumber info dig

"This is not the first time that illegal access to records of high-profile individuals by insiders with privileged access has surfaced during this election. Barack Obama, D-Ill., Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., McCain and others."

139 Rendell:  PA Could Slip From Obama
There was an interesting piece in my local paper (Bucks County PA) that gives some insight on why Rendell made the urgent call to Obama to campaign in PA.  It seems the governor is willing to admit that the polls are pretty soft.  Murtha is part of the problem though Rendell thinks he should still be reelected because he has done so much for PA.  The biggest issue causing Obama to lose support, though, is the redistribution of wealth and tax issues seems to be resonating in PA.  You can read for yourself at:

148 Hey, Indiana's 11 electoral votes could be very important in a close election.  I grew up in California and know how it is to have that powerful electoral number, that almost always went Dem.  At least in a swing state there's some contest-soem hope.  So I'd fight for that 11 if I were McCain.  We all remember 2000.

Teri, I can't imagine the relative lack of stumping here is a sign of anything other than the GOP still having us locked up.  Hillary and Obama were in the South Bend area over and over again, but Obama hasn't been here since putting his foot in his mouth in Elkhart, and McCain hasn't set one foot here.  The internals from both ends must be telling them everything Pennsylvania is not.

Today's South Bend Tribune has Obama up 1 but Mitch Daniels crushing Jill Long Thompson by 12.  Another poll has Mitch up THIRTY-ONE points, but McCain up only two.  But I doubt its internals: [B]oth candidates have solidified their base with only 8 percent of Republicans favoring Obama and 7 percent of the Democrats favoring McCain. Troubling for Obama is that 32 percent of Hillary Clinton primary voters are backing McCain. Obama leads with independents by a narrow 39-37 percent. And white voters favor McCain 53-39 percent, compared to 50-38 percent in August.  I know Operation Chaos was huge, but not all Hillary voters were Republicans.  No way the PUMA turnout is that low.

JLT is an awful candidate, and Mitch has a lot of crossover support, but I can't imagine the GOP can win the goobernatorial race by that much and yet have such a thin margin for Prez.  No way.

I'm probably wrong to be so nervous.  But even our so called "conservative" talk radio morning guy in Indy is going Obama.   So-shoot.

162 Yeah, Incite.  It's sad to report I got out class of 1989.  But y'know...touch down Jesus-he is FOREVER!    Majored in music.   Wish it had been computer...heh.  More money for sure.  But I can't complain.  Food is on the table and good solid Notre Dame values.  Football, football, God, Country, and football..

163 #150, Susan if you need anything from clarks summit/ scranton, let me know. carey510@hotmail.com. .BTW, what's your take on Barletta? Scranton Tums endorsed him today. Big kick in the ass for Paulie K No?....TERI-154, my take on the barry yard signs in my upscale (Yeah, I don't belong here) is just people wanting to fit in. They want to show they a nice. They care. No looking like a meany. My guess is half the sign planters also have those rubber cancer bracelets. Who the hell is pro cancer?? Hopefully, they won't commit suicide in the booth and pull the D lever.

English here, so I feel your post-grad job pain.  Wish I had gone to Mendoza/COBA instead of making fun of them.

I was class of '01.  President Bush delivered the commencement address, but Bob Davie was the head coach all four years I was there.  You had Lou, of course, and a quick googling said you had Peter Ueberroth as keynote speaker.  So you win by a wide margin.

Were you a band geek?  I always had the hots for the female tromboners.

Incite-but you speak such fine English!  Seriously your post #151 is very encouraging to me and makes alot of sense.  Mitch will be reelected no doubt-and I think when push comes to shove here Indiana will come through for McCain and esp. Palin.  It's the thing of being surrounded by libs at work-I ended up as a church organist with a minor in harp-no band alas-I was all keyboard & strings all the time.  My bunch at work are big libs.  Somehow the the socialist thing sounds gospel unless you actually think about it...  I actually had a staff member say Jesus was a socialist two days ago.  Ok-that explains why I am nervous you guys.  Have mercy.  I'm surrounded.

169 Transplanted to Chester Co., via Pittston Area '68 (the old Northeast sector thereof). Catching up, is Carney gonna get nuked too, or is that a lost cause?

170 Carneys lying ads are powerful. He's still not done shit for the area. I'm not optomistic, but when you mention checks and balances (donks in total control??), people tend to look perplexed. Their wheels are turning. Outlook for Hackett not great, but you never know. IOW=I'm clueless.

172 Unfortunately, can't roll up there this weekend. Going up next weekend for Mom's 83d birthday and little bro's 40th. I'm on my bro-in-law, what lives in Moscow, and he's pumpin' McPalin etc. at work w/ some success.

We do alot of work here in PA, and I want to let you know that it's not just routes along I-80 but also along I-78.  This past weekend, two buses came into the area that we work out of from NYC.  Around 80 people came in from the city to assist John McCain by making phone calls and going door to door.  It eye opening to witness.  Now, being from the Lehigh Valley area, we are a bit more reserved with political expression, mainly through bumper stickers and lawn signs.  The people from the city who came down had literally plastered themselves with "Another Democrat for John McCain" signs and were out in force in bad weather conditions, driving rain and all that (note: this weekends weather and through the early part of the day are going to be very good and we love vistors here in the Valley).  Anyway, the people who came down from the city were very nice and provided a great momentum boost.

Another note I 'd like to point out is that the polls are wrong here in PA.  I've been across the state recently, and I can assure you it will be much closer than what you're hearing.  There are virtually no signs for Obama west of Lebanon, PA, and many alot of people are keenly aware of the fact that when he says "taxes will not be raised" they know that he is referring to 2000 levels, pre-Bush Tax Cuts.  They're not happy about it.  We are also very much riled up from Bonusgate and from the corruption charges against D-Vincent Fumo, which will have a big impact.

174 Offered my competence and experience on the cheap to the Mc machine in CO, just asked $200/day plus reasonable expenses.  The reply "Thanks for your interest.  We are not offering any payment to full-time volunteers.  Also, we don’t have any staff positions available"

McCain-Palin Volunteer Buses will leave from outside Penn Station, along West 31st Street right before Eighth Avenue at 9am next Saturday and Sunday, so long as there are enough volunteers to fill a bus.

The bus will return to Penn Station from Scranton around 8:30pm each evening.

Is this only for door to door campaigning?

I would consider going down there if there was anything I could do in an office, phone banking or freeing up another volunteer but I'm not social enough to knock on doors.
