Michelle Obama: She Shops At J. Crew, She's Better Than Sarah Palin [Vinnie]

With bonus empathy!

Obama said she and her husband had a policy of spending their own money on their clothes. But she said she wanted to be "empathetic."

"A V.P. pick, it's like being shot out of a cannon. All of a sudden you're at the center of attention, and you want to look good," said Michelle Obama, adding she has never met Palin. "You're living in your home, minding your business, and all of a sudden you're on the national stage and everyone's watching."

Can you say jealous? Sarah Palin gets a measly $150,000 in totally hot, awesome, sexy thigh boots clothes and poor old Michelle MyBelle is stuck with J. Crew and shopping online. Wah fucking wah, coming from the campaign that's spent A HALF A FUCKING BILLION DOLLARS ALREADY!!!! Give me a fucking break.

That's my take, at least. This story has condescension written all over it. But, wait, how does this benefit Michelle Obama's children? Not at all, they're suffering, absolutely distraught over Dad's multimillion dollar half hour ad coming up:

Ten-year-old Malia's reaction to her father's plans to air a 30-minute paid advertisement on national TV Wednesday night?

"'You're going to be on all the TV? Are you going to interrupt my TV?'" her mother said Malia asked.

She said Barack Obama reassured his daughter that he hadn't purchased time on the Disney Channel.

That's right, little Malia, you're leftist indoctrination by Disney would never be co-opted by the leftist indoctrination your dad is trying to foist on the rest of us.

Uh, everyone else is doing Open Blog Posts. Ace? Help here?

2 Bullshit. Before the Palin pick, NPR had a long segment comparing Michelle Obama's and Cindy McCain's wardrobes. Some twit from a fashion mag was talking about how Obama wore designer dresses and how she was the next Jackie Onassis.

Commie Fuckers!  On Hume's program tonight,  the panel (Barnes, NPR's Liasson, Krauthammer)  all agreed Palin got a bad rap on the clothes bit, and that the McCain campaign was unconscionably inept in handling the story.

Seems a McCain staffer (who Barnes IDed by name) took it upon herself to go shopping on Palin's behalf, picking out dozens of outfits in a number of sizes, in the hope that Plain would like AND fit into some of them.  She intended to return the rest.

Palin didn't go to the stores, nor did she even know the shopping was being done "for" her.

INEPT FUCKWIT John McCain didn't can the staffer or even come to Palin's defense.  He was too busy overflowing  into his droolcup* muttering about gentlemanliness.

*Sorry, Mack: mine's taken.

12 If she can fit into a single item from JCrew that would be amazing.  JCrew, was until now, the go to store for young professionals.  If her clothing, which looked mismatched, btw, was from JCrew then she had to buy the largest size they sell and have it taken out.  She is not thin, she has a butt the size of the tundra.

like him.  Can't stand her.

I bet JCrew is upset.  They aren't doing so well and now this.

17 I've got the title to Brooklyn Bridge, since NYC is in decline, I'll take only $5M. Here's my account number: 12345878399, Citibank.

If Michelle Obama shops at J. Crew, I'm a sofa and her clothing is the upholstery. Are we to believe that the same Michelle Obama who had a magnum of champagne (please God, let it be the only champagne she drinks this election season!), lobster patties/tails, and two whole lobsters for a total of $450+/- in her fancy hotel room in NYC ... are we to believe that that Michelle Obama shops at J. Crew?

20 I read a while back before the issue of clothes hit the fan that MO paid 2-3k a dress and that Barry's suit for the convention speech was hand tailored which ain't cheap.

Anyway, this clothes crap is annoying. And even more annoying are the obama acting like they are middle class. They've had bucks for a while and we know they give only a pittance away to charity.

Aunt Esther wears clothes from J Crew which she managed to order all by herself.  What a woman.  All American.

Let's review.

She also ordered all by herself, lobster hor douerves, iranian caviar, champaigne, and lobster at the Waldorf.  All by herself, she got a $200,000 raise to $350,000, once The One became senator.

What else is she going to do all by herself?

Where were those media shrieks on that statement?

And the only people I know "bothered" by Sarah's wardrobe? are the ObamaDems & their asskissing media sidekicks.

WOMEN DON"T CARE ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU SPEND -- ONLY HOW YOU LOOK IN THE CLOTHES.

I just looked through a slideshow of Michelle's "fashions" praising her as having Jackie Onassis style and that girl hasn't seen the inside of a J Crew store for any reason other than maybe buying jeans or something that doesn't matter.  Everything she was wearing in this slideshow, found by googling "Michelle Obama fashion" was quite expensive, maybe even on loan.

Someone else claimed the fashion industry supports Obama.  This is entirely believable since they are talented but none too bright.  And their support is quite likely to result in lending clothing to Mrs. TheOne.  So they can truthfully say they didn't spend money; it's all lent, and Mrs. will just forget to give it back.

This from the woman who complained that $600 was barely enough "to buy a pair of earrings"?

31 JCrew isn't Target, so it isn't like we're talking about poor Michelle Obama wearing threadbare rags.  A nice full suit from the JCrew catalogue would probably be $1,000 plus dollars, much more that the suits that we peons get to wear.  I certainly cannot drop that much on work clothes.

Posted by: Illinidiva at October 28, 2008 09:16 AM (BZuwT)

32 Whether Michelle shops at J. Crew or on Rodeo Drive, the issue is that she spends her own money that she earned subsequent to excelling at the best schools in the country.  The DNC has not dished out a home down payment on depreciable assets to clothe Mrs. Obama either, despite the fact that Obama's campaign is running rings around the RNC in fundraising.

Correction: After 8 years of Bush, real estate is now also a depreciable asset!

Michelle Obama started out wearing couture clothing.  She went to a normal women's gathering during the primaries.  The press wrote an article that she did not fit in at all with the other women.  She toned down her clothing after that.

Posted by: noob at October 28, 2008 10:11 AM (xXn1O)

39 noob, they don't spend their own money.  In their report to the election committee, the same one they linked for Palin, there were a lot of miscellaneous expenditures.  Those expenditures were way more than the McCain Miscellaneous expenditures.  Their clothing was probably hidden there.

If you recall, some dems tried to take the dishes from the WH on moving out day.  Don't tell me the dems have suddenly changed their stripes.

BTW,  got an email today from a loyal JCrew wearer who said "bet she had to buy two of those skirt and have them tailored and sewn together so she could fit into them.  No way with that HUGE BUTT can she wear off the rack JCrew."

Dumb move for JCrew, pissing off the core customers during these economic times.
Might be good for Banana Republic though, lots of people have uttered the "now I'm going back to Banana phrase since this "news" broke on Leno.

I think Michelle "the mouth" Obama shops at J.Crew and Walmart so that she and Barry will have a little left over from last years $4,000,000,00.

They are thinking of buiding Obama's brother a new corrugated metal hut in Nairobi.  Complete with Obama for President sign out front.

53 While I CANNOT, for the life of me, stand Michelle Obama, ungrateful wench that she is, I must come to the defense of her booty.  We black women generally have bigger booties than our white sisters, and it's considered an asset in our circles.  In my country, we used to tease girls with flat behinds, and I never heard the question "Does this make my butt look big" until I started living in the US.  If a black woman asked that, she would be hoping for a "yes".  And I don't think she is that big.  Sure, she's not anorexic like Angelina Jolie, but I think she generally looks good in clothes and has a decent figure.

But if you believe she only wears inexpensive clothes, call me.  I have a continent I'd like to sell you.  (They keep comparing her to Jackie Onassis, who I'm sure didn't wear expensive clothes.  Uhuh.  Right...)

Plus if Sarah had been wearing cheap clothes, you know that they'd be calling her a tacky dumb chillbilly with no fashion sense.  She just can't win with these people.
