U.S. Official Confirms - Senior Al Qaeda Leader Killed in Syria by Special Operations Forces, That Awful "Puffy, Crampy" Feeling, But Mostly Special Operations Forces

Good enough reason for me. The Russians can complain all they want.

A U.S. strike on a network of foreign fighters in Syria killed its main target — an Al Qaeda coordinator who was wanted for sending foreign fighters, weapons and cash into Iraq, a U.S. official told FOX News.

Killed in Sunday's attack by Special Operations Forces was Abu Ghadiyain, Al Qaeda's senior coordinator operating in Syria who was closely associated with the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Special Ops. When there's an asshole who absolutely, positively must be delivered overnight. To the dirt.

1 Any word from Dear Leader on his opinion of this, or does he have to consult with his 300 foreign policy advisers to discover what he thinks?

9 One, I'm glad an enemy of my country and yours was killed, and others in Al Qaeda.

Two, I will offer a comment on this thread I left also on the previous thread about the strike in Syria for the reason that it was this attack which provoked me to think about it. They are related.

I put it out there as food for thought:

One thing that just occurred to me when I read the reaction [at The Jawa Report] to the strike on Mohammed Omar, which almost certainly caused civilian casualties, and it's a strike I approve of and would certainly have ordered...

... is that this [Ace of Spades]
is a conservative blog where many commenters are Christians. I'm not. They presumably believe what the Bible says. I don't.

And yet I express my hope there were no civilian casualties in the strike inside Syria and the American conservatives on this blog assume I'm shilling for Obama, a man who supports infanticide, and am a compatriot of Jack Murtha, a man who accuses Marines of murder without proof, then doesn't apologize, and who also calls his own constituents racist.

Their proof, these American conservatives on this blog? I said I hope no civilians were killed, something Jesus would approve of, and so would your pastors, priests, bishops, and rabbis.

I state again that in this case also, I hope, for what little good it may do, that no innocent civilians were killed, that civilian deaths were minimized (particularly children), and I regret the loss of any innocent life.

My concern, I pointed out on that other thread, is shared by your noble warriors and their chain of command — to their credit.

I still support the strike 100% as I almost certainly would the Syrian strike too if I knew the target. I'm just pointing out the sad irony of Christians chastizing the non-Christian for wishing that innocents could be spared. I am not the first non-Christian to note such an irony.

I would prefer that he be rifle fodder, or noose fodder, or lethal injection fodder as payment for his crimes against humanity. But I accept that we live in a republic where we agree to live by the rule of law, and that he managed to finagle the law in his favor. So I'll have to settle for him being political fodder and wish him a hasty and painful death of natural causes.

Posted by: Duhgee at October 27, 2008 12:10 PM (Xev9a)

21 Hey Chrissy,

There is an enormous difference between choosing civilian targets as a calculated means to an ends, versus occasionally winging a few as unintended consequences of going after legitimate targets.

We have made it clear who the enemy is and that we are coming.  If you choose to hang around bad men, bad things may happen.  Within the Christian faith, you were given free will to make those choices.  Some choose poorly.

Another Christian concept is forgiveness.  If we happen to get a few unintended casualties when accomplishing civilization's goal, then we reflect on our error, seek forgiveness, and tighten the windage next time.  But, we don't let it stop us or slow us down.

Your posts continually seek to return to the day when we were hamstrung with post-modern, Euro-liberal hand wringing. You need to come south a bit to understand the gloves are off.

27 Woot! Commando mission for the win! And 1 more Al Quaeda commander standing in front of the entrance to Hell, wondering where his virgins are. Wish we had seen this headline back in '05, but better late than never. If Bashir Assad wants to kick it up a notch just in time for the election, that's his folly to undertake. And ours to capitalize on....

Well Christoph, according to Bin Laden & Ahmadinejad, there are no innocents in waging jihad, only martyrs and enemies. So by their lights a few extra martyrs were created, there was no collateral damage involving civilians. Not saying that we ought to embrace the enemy's vocabulary for combat deaths, but the other side is not as inclined to worry about who shot whom as we are. (Which is why we are hunting them down in Syria instead of central Iraq these days, sloppy bastards ended up pissing off the locals & setting up the Surge.)

Then again, I am cynical about the "innocent workers" line getting tossed around. As I recalll, when we went into Grenada in '83, there were a few hundred Cuban "construction workers" on the island who were well armed, and with enough gumption to shoot it out with us for a little while.

Posted by: exdem13 at October 27, 2008 12:20 PM (nQ6xk)

28 The only way they get retried is if one of the other, as yet unidentified, participants in the 1981 Brinks Robbery in New York comes forward and offers new, untainted evidence.

30 Jean, the tone of your post is disgusting.

I am hardly a hand wringer where the use of force is concerned. But I can express my wish that civilians not be harmed despite the necessity of doing so and give my own personal thoughts on their behalf, what a Christian would call a prayer.

I never implied your warriors should "seek forgiveness" for collateral damage. It isn't an intentionally immoral act and isn't anything they need to be forgiven for.

"Uncle makes EVERY attempt to minimize if not elimintate civilian casualties."

MAJHAM, that would probably be why I made that point over and over and over again.

"Hooah to to the men on the ground that got it done."

Quite.

Posted by: Jim62sch at October 27, 2008 12:26 PM (X4hru)

32 Christopher, I think a lot of us are just frustrated at the knee jerk reaction to US military actions that always wonders about civilian casualties as if they prove that we're the villains.  You've explained your point that your concern is genuinely humanitarian, but a lot of the people who say exactly what you did are more interested in expressing their anti-Americanism.

I get the feeling that a lot of 'civilian' casualties are terrorists whose weapons were moved out of frame for CNN's benefit.  Not all certainly, but since our enemies refuse to identify themselves with uniforms and hide among non-cambatants, I have come to the conclusion that I can't let myself feel too much sympathy for 'civilian casualties.'

I'm particularly hesitant when I see things like the Palestinian efforts to fake casualties (there was wonderful video a couple of years back of the 'dead' guy getting off his sretcher when he thought he was out of view of the camera).

But I accept that we live in a republic where we agree to live by the rule of law, and that he managed to finagle the law in his favor

Ayers and other scumbags like him get off when a cop or cops abuses the system and gathers evidence in a manner that the liberal courts of the 60s had deemed to be unconstitutional. The remedy that the courts came up with of tossing the evidence is a pure construct. It has absolutely no basis in the Constitution. When the courts do this the public gets screwed 3 times. First by the criminal who commits the crime. Second when the criminal gets to walk because of the actions of a bad cop, and finally when the bad cop is not held accountable.

At one time the SCOTUS was making noises that they were going to revisit this travesty AND they have ruled that localities do NOT have to automatically throw out illegally obtained evidence IF and this is a big IF…….

The locality sets in place a system that discourages obtaining evidence illegally and provides some type of punishment for the offenders.  Of course the Ayers BS went down long before the less liberal court of today had this ruling. That being said, he would probably still walk because, to my knowledge, the feds have not set up any kind of system like this.

Gabe Malor can better comment on this, but my understanding is that the feds so completely fucked up (i.e. did illegal things) when they were gathering evidence against them that the whole thing had to be tossed, and once that happened, there was nothing left, no Plan B. So Ayers and Dohrn walked.

Also, Ayers' daddy being a local big-shot probably didn't hurt, either.
