SNL: Joe Biden and Jack Murtha Say Crazy Things at Campaign Rally

1 Yeah, seriouly, with 5 R&C's down I've got to say that is the funniest skit they've put on in quite some time.

2 Hello?  World?  I'm drunk by myself?

Wow ..... wonder how long before they 'edit' that one

6 That has to be the funniest political skit they've done since the Bush-Gore debate in 2000... maybe even longer.

The only other one even in the same class since 2000 would have to be the Pelosi speech upon becoming Speaker-elect of the House.  (Palomino!)

Who woke up SNL and got them some good writers?

8 Well, at least they didn't rip me off this time.

Remember that one SNL skit that didn't go on too long and beat the joke to death? Me neither.

You have company.

Not to armchair but the tee vee in 1929 is a Biden classic - I left the room while it was playing so was it in there?

Posted by: Topsecretk9 at October 26, 2008 03:05 AM (eQwUw)

10 7,

$10 says that Jim Downey wrote it.  Downey's the one who wrote the bailout-bill skit that caused such an uproar.

Posted by: Brandon In Baton Rouge at October 26, 2008 03:06 AM (mySIW)

11 Biden asked to comment on the SNL

"is this a joke? are you joking?"

12 OT, but I see O was in Vegas today at Buckaroo High School. I thought he was supposed to be at Granny's this weekend because, you know, she's near death or something.

No, but it was more the whole Murtha interrupting while Biden was explaining how everything was manufactured.

Posted by: Editor at October 26, 2008 03:13 AM (p4YSL)

15 I think the funniest part is after Biden says all his wild crap he's shush shushes Murtha -- 'don't say that"

16 Holy crap.  I guarantee that Downey reads this blog.

SNL this season has had some Absolute. Fucking. Classics.

Treach, as for the joke going too long into uncomfortableness - in this case, it works. Imagine you're a Democrat having to listen to a Biden speech. The longer it goes on the more you're praying "please don't blow it please don't say anything stupi... DAMMIT... please just shut up"

29 SNL makes my hemorrhoids itch. I hate that craptastic show the way I hate jock itch. They suck, and so does everything at NBC except Leno, and he's borderline on utter suckitude.
I would rather watch a tape of drugged tree sloths doing the horizontal macarena thatn this tepid crap. This was better than their usual fare but it's hard not to outdo visual shit, isn't it?

NBC sucks, SNL sucks, Tina Fey sucks, and I hope this last few weeks is a last gasp and that show with its bad skits and fawning celebrity herridans goes away and dies, taking Paris(ite) Hilton and all the Kardashians with it.
Madonna could leave the earth and not break my heart either.
Screw all those ham-talented hacks.

Now, did that sound a bit partisan?

I sure hope so.

32 I loved how the studio audience applauded when "Murtha" asks whether the child that "Biden" is prophesizing about might be "one of those Palin kids".  It's like the audience was really hoping they'd stop lampooning the Democrats and start attacking Sarah Palin again and get back on comfortable ground for them.

Posted by: Kensington at October 26, 2008 03:40 AM (xFNQx)

33 I'll sleep now. Just a suggestion for the next theme for SNL: the sound of continuous toilet flushing running in the background while Al "Slim Shady" Sharpton does some pimping for the homies on the Upper West Side.
The music could just be toilets flushing until the first commercial break. Give the audience an idea what they're spending part of their weekend doing: being exposed to complete shit.

Now, did that sound negative?
I sure hope so...

Though I still think we should boycott NRO, the Corner has Steyn (a bit too politely) shredding dhimmi Frum's defeatist, Palin-hating nonsense.  You want to double down, Dave?  We're neither forgetting nor forgiving.  Your conveniently-timed Afghan trip was a good excuse to come back and issue mea culpas after having watched the VP debate.  Now it's too late.

Yup. What I love about the SP creators is they not full of themselves and they WANT to sell a product.  They know that self serving pats on the back humor can get you only so far. And they really, really do hate Barbara Streisand...but I think that stems from some snobby crap she did or said about Colorado.

Can you believe how stupid it is she thought the make up people did a super great job making Matt Damon look old in that scene?

My mom is a flight attendant. She also told me she watched Nancy Pelosi apply this exotic brand of make-up in a jar that conceals face lift scars the entire flight and my mom craned her neck so many ways in order to get the name of this time consuming elixir.

Posted by: Topsecretk9 at October 26, 2008 04:04 AM (eQwUw)

48 44,

The Streisand hate is tied to some comments she made in the early 1990s about Colorado Amendment 2 (which outlawed legal preferences being given based on sexual orientation), which went up for voter ratification.

Streisand and other celebrities campaigned against Amendment 2 and then called for a boycott of Colorado once it passed.

Parker and Stone's stance on it is probably the same as their stance on Rob Reiner's anti-smoking group in later seasons... that celebrities imposing their viewpoints on others via scare tactics and well-funded opposition is fascism.

53 the crowd is trying to laugh but seem disapointed that it ain't another palin hit-job. ~ YRM

I remember that clip with John Stewart:  After he told some Obama joke, the audience sat silent, stunned, with a few twitters of hesitant laughter.  He told the audience, "It's okay to laugh at him."  Reminds me of the same.  Fear at laughing at a politician.  Have we sunk so low that we free men and women can no longer laugh at a politician?  Not even one who his supporters feel is some sort of race-healing, other-worldly Messiah?  I think the whole problem with Obama and all leftists is simple:  We've allowed ourselves to take them seriously, thereby letting themselves be serious about taking themselves seriously, instead of outright laughing them and their Marxist/socialist/whatever ideas off the stage.  Politicians often deserve to be mocked often.  To paraphrase Monty Python:  We need more mockery!  As history has shown with repressive regimes from Hitler to Stalin to Mao to Saddam that never had senses of humor, our Representative Republic dies without our right to mock politicians and some of their more insane ideas.  Like Obama's 'spread the wealth around' Freudian slip.

54 Just like most SNL skits, this one goes on for 7:04 seconds too long. Really now, who still watches this show?

Posted by: Pastafarian at October 26, 2008 06:47 AM (C9CWI)

55 Of course, Seth Meyers during the fake news bit points out that actually, the "truth" is that Obama "just served on a school board" with Ayers.  Yeah, right, Seth.  The "truth."  Ayers didn't hire Obama to run a multi-million-dollar trust.  Obama didn't write his book blurb.  Obama didn't kick off his political career with a party at Ayers' house.  They just served on a school board together.

Bizarrely, the NBC Nightly News and the Today show have treated every anti-Republican SNL skit as "news" and have essentially re-broadcast the anti-McCain and (especially) anti-Palin sketches on Mondays.  Wanna bet that the Biden/Murtha sketch won't be deemed "newsworthy?"

So now the late-night joke tally stands at:

Jokes/skits ridiculing McCain:  1,843
Jokes/skits ridiculing Palin:  259
Jokes/skits ridiculing Biden: 1
Jokes/skits ridiculing Obama: What?  Whoa.  Hey.  Ridicule Obama?  What are you, a racist?  The late-night writers have already explained that there's "absolutely nothing buffoonish" about Obama at all.  I mean, he's not old like McCain.  It's not like He's a Urkel-bike-riding, fake-accent-having, 57-state-saying, past-hiding, ACORN-election-rigging, state-misnaming, arrogant, stuttering, pandering, unaccomplished, inexperienced "not-the-person-I-knew"-ing, terrorist-friend-having empty suit who bowls like a nine-year-old girl or anything.  He's so superior to us that to joke about Him would be tantamount to blasphemy!  Besides, comedy writers are so powerful that they don't want to cost Him the election like they cost Kerry and Gore their elections by making a few dozen jokes about them amongst the thousands ridiculing Bush.

On an outing yesterday Hubby and I counted yard signs (suburban CT). Lots of signs out there for local elections. Only a smattering of McCain and Obama signs. A few more McCain signs than Obama signs, but not enough to seem significant. Two Ron Pauls.

Sincerely, I saw more advertising for Ned Lamont around here than I have seen for either presidential candidate so far.

People on both sides are simply refusing to publicly state their preference.

We were always running across these yards that were positively festooned with signs for every Dem in every local and state position you could possibly vote for this year, and even signs for unions or other oganizations.

But only one of those yards contained an Obama sign.

I don't know if they simply couldn't get their hands on O signs, or if it was a deliberate omission.

The guys from South Park are libertarians who despise liberal dogma, political correctness, and vapid, narcissistic Hollywood  celebs.  Here are a couple of quotes to give you an idea where they stand.

Matt Stone: "I hate conservatives, but I really fucking hate liberals."

Trey Parker: "People in the entertainment industry are by and large whore-chasing drug-addicted assholes.  But they still believe they're better than the guy in Wyoming who really loves his wife and takes care of his kids and is a good, outstanding, wholesome person. Hollywood views regular people as children, and they think they're the smart ones who need to tell the idiots out there how to be."

Acorn is unavailable for comment .... In other News, via SondraK

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) plans to file a fundraising complaint Monday alleging that John McCain’s campaign accepted contributions that exceeded the federal limits and took donations from anonymous backers.

Democrats say in the complaint to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) that Sen. McCain’s (R-Ariz.) presidential campaign received 6,653 donations that each were at least $1,000 greater than the $2,300 donation limit. McCain also took 23 anonymous contributions that were greater than the $50 limit on donations from unnamed supporters, the complaint says. The complaint is based on records provided by the McCain campaign on its own website.

The DNC is asking the FEC to conduct an audit of all of McCain’s contributions.

The McCain campaign’s lack of disclosure and disregard for the law he helped write raises serious questions about John McCain’s commitment to the openness and transparency the voters expect from their leaders,” DNC general counsel Joe Sandler said in a statement.

85 @79: Lol. Funnier than the SNL sketch that's imbedded.

Look, I know we're supposed to like it b/c it really "sticks it" to the Dems. But I saw it online when it was posted here last night at 3 am and I've watched it again now -- it sucked both times. Part of the reason the audience isn't ROFL is b/c (while it makes fun of Democrats) this sketch also blows. It's not funny, it's too long, the jokes are bad -- if you're going to reference the wheelchair incidence, don't go halfway in. NBC should wash this one from the Internets b/c it's a disgrace to the legacy of the Not-Ready-For-Primetimers that came before this crew.

I got this email this morning from Michael Yon to his subscribers:

"If Senator Obama is elected, I expect to spend a great deal of time covering the fighting. Judging by his words, Senator Obama must be watched closely or we might see some terrible decisions. I expect 2009 to be the worst year so far in the Af-Pak war, which has serious potential to eventually become far worse than Iraq ever was. If Senator McCain is elected, I'll breathe easier in regard to the war."

108 Lizzie,

I am glad your here. I have missed your searing insight so much!
Thin skinned democrats don't believe their ideas should ever be questioned? I guess all the Palin skits were pro McCain?

Get This: Obama raked in $208,333 every hour of every day of the month of September. At that rate he would have to spend 12.5 million dollars a day to burn his cash.

Now he is asking for just $10.00 more per person in order to qualify for a special car magnet.

Maybe he could help his brother in Kenya or maybe just be honest and pay for ACORN himself rather than ask the taxpayers to pay for his ground force.

If his campaign is his executive experience, as he has claimed, then he is a tax and spend liberal.

111 There is no question that this race continues to tighten and that McCain is finding his message again,” said Pollster John Zogby. “It is after all about the economy and that is how McCain tightened it up the last time. I have said over and over again, when he focuses on extraneous issues, he screws up. In today's single day of polling, it was 49% to 46% in favor of Obama. McCain has moved his own numbers each of the three days and Obama has gone down from 54% to 50% to 49%. I have alluded before to this strange, magnetic pull that brings Obama down to 48% or 49%, a danger zone for him. McCain's gains are among white voters, where he now leads by 12 points, and with men, where he again has a healthy lead. There is still a lot of campaign to go. A lot of campaign to go.

That's from today's release.

Translation:  Yeah, yeah.  Rush was right.  We've been attempting to suppress Republican voters, but it does not seem to be working so now I have to start bringing to numbers back to where they actually are.  Oh no, I won't look like an asshole for bringing it all the way from double digits closer to a McCain win.  I mean, there's like forever to go in this election.  They still have to announce VP candidates.  What?  What?

Posted by: Editor at October 26, 2008 11:58 AM (p4YSL)

112 Glad to know I was missed.  Just like John McCain has missed his chance to be president and the Republicans have missed their chance to have any influence in Congress or our government at all.

Yes, I think SNL is biased.  Look at all those Sarah Palin skits.  They did that to give her attention and her poll numbers kept rising.  Plus they cast a knockout beauty in Tina fey as her.  Sarah Palin isn't 1/100th as pretty as Tina Fey.  Again, I ask if Lorne Michaels have been promised something a la Arnold Schwarzenegger??

But this is too little too late. President Obama sounds good.  Senator Al Franken does too.  How does Democaratic Super Majority sound?  Yes, we can!!

Posted by: Lizzie at October 26, 2008 12:03 PM (Kbl0/)

114 Don't you guys get it? The skit was poking fun at Republicans as much as Dems! "Biden" was playing on the way the GOP spun his statement. It was sooooo obvious when he started talking like an evangilist that the big joke was on the Conservatives. They just weren't smart enough to catch it. Too bad... it was a good one.

Posted by: gin at October 26, 2008 12:11 PM (lzhYF)

115 Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.  I don't see Palin as any great beauty.  Tina Fey is gorgeous!  It's an insult to Fey to compare her to Palin.  I see Palin as just another aging Republican woman wearing too much makeup, buying fancy clothes, trying to land desperate men to screw by showing some leg, and that needs to learn a thing or two about birth control!!

Obama for President.  Franken for Senate. Hillary for Supreme Court.  Yes, we can!!

117 I just wish we conservative would feel as smug and superior to our fellow citizens as our Kos friends do. It is so helpful to the debate. Issues of national sovereignty and private property ownership get lost in my "guy is more attractive than yours". Statements like "we are winning" instead "we are right" are common. Some times people respond to a crisis by going to a calming voice who says the right things. Eventually people will learn that he is a player who has a real agenda that has yet to be shared.

I watched one of the Naked Guns in Indonesia, and my friend who went with me kept asking if it was okay that the movie made fun of Bush. I said, yes, its fine, why the hell not? Uhhh, because you can't do that in dictatorships.

Of the two SNL skits, the Obambi Half Hour Show was really the best. Was nice to see, for a friggin change!

In my opinion, the best skit of ALL is the Barbara West interview of Biden. You just can't find comedy this good! Plus the fact that Team Obambi said it was 'unprofessional' makes me want to watch it even more! Here's a link with the video embedded (unlike the Drudge link). Found it interesting that WFTV no longer has the vid at their site, but they did dredge up an old interview that she did with Biden back in Sept in their most popular videos section...hmmm, interesting. I turned on SNL because of John Hamm.  I tried to miss the opening political sketch though, but I still caught the last third of it.  What an awesome surprise! Ha!

re: Yard signs - I live in a solidly red state, but my city's population is half black (and I'd guess my immediate neighborhood is about 75% - yet I'm still a racist republican).  I haven't seen too many yard signs for either candidate, but the ones I have seen are almost always next to another house supporting the same candidate.  You can go for blocks without seeing any, and then turn the corner and find two or three right next to each other.

I don't know if it means anything, but down the street from me were three houses, two on one side and the third directly across from them, each with an Obama sign in their yard.  Now only two have signs.  I'm kinda curious what happened to the third one.

#120 It works for me, locus, with Internet Explorer (and XP). It's the "Hell Freezes Over" post from Power Line about the Minneapolis Star Tribune endorsing Coleman.

Tomorrow the Minneapolis Star Tribune will endorse Norm Coleman in his Senate race against Al Franken--as will, less surprisingly, the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Normally the Star Tribune finds one or two Republicans to endorse in each election cycle. Their usual practice is to choose Republicans who either can't lose, or can't win. For that paper to endorse a Republican in a major, hotly contested race is unprecedented in my memory. I'm speechless.

131 Unlike the rest of the media, Lorne Michaels (to his credit) seems to has figured out fout conservatives will watch SNL if the anti-Rethuglican bias is occasionally offset by some slamming of some of the left's pious hypocrisies.

Sarah Palin gave him the highest audience in nearly 15 years. He's learned a lesson.

Also, one has to wonder who they're going to make fun of if Obambi does win, and has a democratic House and Senate.

Perhaps he's laying the ground work to begin making fun of those who hold power. An Obama administration (God forbid that it should happen) would be very ripe for mockery, and given the utter reverence shown to the One by every other show, the field would seem to be wide open to build a more conservative audience,

The strong desire for Tiffany jewelry could be seen as my vain and florid dreams and I will lose interesting in others only for this. While Tiffany & Co. is a grand company which stands for another kind of US beauty, the company Tiffany and Co really does a lot to better our life. Thank you very much for your understanding. May Jesus bless you.

164 Wedding articles/How to Choose Your Wedding Dresses, Most women consider their Wedding Gowns, the most important dress they will ever own. With all the styles available it can be a difficult choice. There are some important aspects to take into consideration when choosing your Wedding Dress, Things You’ll Need: Bridal Magazines Your Wedding Dresses, Step1 Decide what is most important to you: Do you want to look as beautiful as possible or do you want to wear the Wedding Dresses, that you've been dreaming about all of your life even if it does not flatter your body type? This decision is easy for those women who are tall and thin or average size. Almost any style will look great on them. If you happen to be undersized or over-sized, certain Informal Wedding Dresses will look better on you than others and will detract from the areas that you want to conceal while emphasizing your good features. Step2Look through several bridal magazines to see what the current styles are and if they would be right for you. If you see something that really catches your eye, save the picture to take with you when visiting bridal shops. Step3 Go to a few bridal shops and try on Wedding Dresses,. It's important to take some people with you. They can give you their opinions on how you look in the gowns. Usually you would go with your mother, sisters, and maid of honor. They will give you an honest opinion and greatly help in your decision making. Don't buy a Wedding Dresses, on the first visit. Sometimes sales people try to push you into purchasing a certain gown by telling you that it might be gone the next day. Don't be pressured. Don't worry if the Wedding Dresses, you want isn't at one shop, it will be at the next one. Take your time and you'll make better choices. Step4Don't discount the discounts! You may think the best gown is the most expensive one but that isn't always true. There are certain bridal shops that have huge sales, selling cheap Wedding Dresses, for as low as $99. Some of these cheap Wedding Dresses, are as beautiful as the more expensive ones. At least look through them. You may find the Wedding Dresses, of your dreams. Step5 Find a neighborhood seamstress and ask if she can make a Wedding Dresses,. Go through bridal magazines with her and point out the features that you love most on certain Wedding gowns,. An experienced dressmaker will have no problem taking the neckline from one, the sleeves from another, and the bodice from a third, to put together your unique design.
