The Last to Go Down With the Ship? Screw the Polls (Kat-Mo)

To go along with my earlier piece and make it more clear, Mark Steyn says what I'm saying: Screw the Polls and tell those folks that think small government conservatism is dead to go take a hike.

It's not dead and the election is not lost. It's time to fight!

In the words of Publishers’ Clearing House, he may already have won! The battleground states have all turned blue, the reddest of red states are rapidly purpling. Don’t you know, little fool? You never can win. Use your mentality, wake up to reality. Why be the last right-wing pundit to sign up with Small-Government Conservatives For The Liberal Supermajority? We still need pages for the coronation, and there’s a pair of velvet knickerbockers with your name on it. [snip]

Yes, technically, this is still a two-party state, but one of the parties is like Elton John’s post-Oscar bash and the other is a church social in Wasilla.[snip]

I agree with Thomas Sowell that an Obama-Pelosi supermajority will mark what he calls “a point of no return”. It would not be, as some naysayers scoff, “Jimmy Carter’s second term”, but something far more transformative.

Yes. Read the rest and listen to your Uncle John McCain: Stand up and Fight!

1 I will have to agree with our allies the PUMAs that we republicans who whine, should stop being such a sad pack of Eeyores and go out there and fight for McCain, Palin, and our country!

Screw all the media a-holes and Liberals.
PUMAs are making an effort and are confident, shouldn't we be as well? Get out there and say a big F-you to the MSM, pollsters, and Obama.

4 I live in Ohio and I'm telling you the RCP average giving Obama a 6 point lead is wrong. Obama won't win Ohio and you can take that to the bank. Don't let the MSM and botched polls tell you otherwise. I work for the largest university in the state and the lack of Obama support compared to Kerry in 2004 is obvious to anyone with more than two brain cells.

5 Donations: good.  I like freedom ring.  Where's aces favorite "insurgent" post?

Are you volunteering anywhere?  the next two weeks I'll be out and about doing what I can.  Volunteering for VFF and looking to the McCain campaign which I hope has something slightly better for me to do than just make phone calls.

I can write and speak.  What can the rest do?  Write to your papers for the editorials about the bad government expansion plan.  My paper is McClatchy owned serving a large Democrat urban area.  But, they will print contrarian views.  It needs to be good.   Let me consider the message and I'll come back to you.

Money will go so far.  McCain is being beat in Missouri with ads three to 1 by Obama.  More representation here please because obama only has the cities and can't be ceded the suburbs.

7 Nothing will revive conservatism any quicker than a Democratic White House and Congress.

If we lose the White we will simply get it back in 4 years.

Conservatism is based on universal principles not a philosophy based on desired outcomes like liberalism. Because of this conservatism will never die.

8 JennyC, here's a link that works, copied from incognito's post on an earlier thread:

American Thinker has a great article about "Signs Pointing To A McCain Victory".  A must read for all morons, especially eeyores.

Posted by: CB at October 25, 2008 02:48 PM (9Wv2j)

9 This is all part of the Obama strategy.  They must love RCP.  Flawed polls get put into the mix, Republicans are down, some jump ship thinking that it will distance them from the loss and then -- lo and behold -- the polls tighten to show a realistic snapshot of the race.

The only poll that gets reported is the last one.  Zogby can zig and Rasmussen can reel and the polls can be all over the place, but in 2012, we will judge a pollster by his last poll in 2008.  They can manipulate any one before that.

Look at how many polls have 10+% undecided.  Those are McCain voters, bank on it.

Posted by: AmishDude at October 25, 2008 02:48 PM (GlrN/)

10 I'd agree with you on the polls being over represented.  One of the things that I know is that there are a lot of people who simply don't want to answer because they are tired of how long this election has been.  anything that is an online poll I discount immediately because it has too many pushers distorting it.

My message to Mr. McCain would be to get out and actually follow Reagans' actions: speak to the base in a big way and then turn it to the American people as a whole.  In the last few days, he needs to rally in a big way.

Legit question...I just saw some stats on Fox regarding pre-voting and the "inspired youth" we keep hearing about.  In the states they showed, the young vote didn't appear to be any more engaged than usual.  Early voting is very busy overall (I early voted in Charlotte, NC area and the worker told me they had been "very busy" every day) but you can't tell until after the 4th how turnout will be overall.

So, my question...how does Obama and the press spin it if the youth vote shows no marked upswing or if McCain actually wins the younger demographic and voter turnout in general is pretty typical?  Rightwing voter supression?

28 Don't believe any of these goddamn polls. The voter ID spreads are between 10 and 15 points on most of them. This is unmitigated horsecrap. McCain's internals have him ahead in both Penn. & Ohio. He will not lose Va., and I'm starting to believe he will carry Colo. as well.

The true poll is spread is about +-1 right now. Add in a Bradley Effect and subtract for voter fraud and you're looking at a +3 McCain victory. He may very well carry Penn., and that Murtha poll should make the Obamunists very worried. People aren't afraid to say their voting against Murtha unlike Barry. What percentage of people in that "safe" working-class Democrat district are going to cross over and vote for McCain, too. Answer: A lot.

Am hearing from people that Republican turnout is going to be massive this year. Very fired up conservative base. Don't forget, fired up liberal base = maybe 15% of the electorate; fired up conservative base = 25% of the electorate. If both sides are equally fired up, the Obamunists lose.

There will be a book, or at least a magazine article, written about how the pollsters epically failed this year. Serious malpractice for their clients--the in-the-tank pukes of the MSM.

I think the Democratic numbers include the presumptive votes of fetuses who’ve been aborted by Democratic parents since 1973.  That's justification enough during the Great Logic Unraveling of 2008.

If the Democrats had allowed those babies to live, they could have avoided the Bush presidency.

If Obama loses, he is finished as a Presidential candidate.

If he wins, he will decapitate the next generation of Republican challengers--they'll throw EVERYTHING they have at Jindal, Palin, Pawlenty, etc.  In 2012, we would have to grow a candidate from scratch, or assemble him/her from spare parts.

Posted by: Big Fat Meanie at October 25, 2008 03:40 PM (n2eCn)

40 The only reason Obama wouldn't survive is that Democrats throw losers under the bus.  In reality, he would be a shoe-in form 2012, not just for the primary but for the general.  With 4 years in the Senate and slow-leaking of the more damaging parts of his past and the opportunity to distance himself from his communist allies, Obama would be a force in 2012.

A McCain pitch I’ve used on my friends:

“Joe Biden promises that Barack Obama would be tested within 6 months of his Presidency; Biden even said that Obama’s response would subject him to heavy criticism.  How do you think that would affect the economy, your 401k, or your investments?  Should we invite conflict given the state of our economy?”

57 I probably have made a mistake in hanging up on the pollsters.   They have called about 3 times.  A friend at work has also hung up on them.  Both of us will vote for McCain.   If it is more likely for conservatives to hang up on pollsters then there will be a large distortion in the results.
Should I be talking to the pollsters?  My fear is they are working on behest of the MSM and I don't want to help them in any  manner.  I would rather see the MSM reputation totally destroyed.   Mostly, after years of annoying marketing calls, its instinctive to hang up when I say hello and here that click when the dialing computer recognizes a human voice.

63 TomV at post #7 and anyone else who thinks we'll just win it all back in four years. YOU ARE WRONG!

Well, actually we might, but every possible card will be stacked against us.

All our complaints of difficulty getting the message out will be nothing after the "fairness doctrine" is imposed and TV and Radio and Cable channels face prosecution for "lies" uttered in campaign commercials. We saw what Obama and some pet prosecutors tried in Missouri, wait'll they get every red state governor, attorney general and local sheriff and prosecuting attorney on the job. They will certainly attempt a nationwide ban on "false" campaign advertising.

Expect restrictions on internet speech.

Expect that what happened to Joe the Plumber to be just foreplay for the anal wire-brush rape the next guy gets.

Expect instant register and vote programs nationwide. Probably by national law if they can get it. In every single red state if the Supreme Court won't lay down for them.

Expect a "fairness" movement to enfranchise illegal aliens and felons.

These fuckers WILL not have any compunctions or mercy. They have convinced themselves that Bush has ruled as a tyrant and they will attempt the same and more. If given their way, we will never give our country back.

These people are utterly corrupt and drunk on the stink of raw power. Do not let them have any more. We saw what happened in 2006 when they ran a slate of moderate and mainstream candidates for congress, which then governed far to the left of any congress in history.

No complacency, no compromise, these are not people who respect compromise. To them it is just a stalling tactic to lock their position in place until they can acquire more power.

67 American Thinker has a great article about "Signs Pointing To A McCain Victory."

I voted today -- Texas is one of 32 states with early voting -- and I voted for McCain. In fact, I voted straight ticket Republican. And I did it after reading Steyn's article.

But folks, the anecdotal observations of a partisan blogger do not constitute "signs" of an impending McCain victory. I'm alarmed by our obsession with a lost cause when we ought to be focused on saving Senate Republicans. If you live in one of the many states where an incumbent GOP senator is a close fight for re-election, make a contribution, phone bank, block walk. But do something that can put us in a position to resist an Obama presidency and a Democrat-controlled Congress. And hoping that McCain can somehow magically pull this out ain't it.

68 Do Americans really want San Francisco's social values enforced as nationally?

Did Americans want amnesty for 12-30 million illegal aliens? NO. And yet the government was within a few votes of shoving it up our collective asses. After this election, they will have the votes they need to do anything they want, and there will not be a damned thing the American people can do about it. We're going to have to fight like hell to keep McCain from fucking us over, never mind Obama and his kleptocratic friends.

Tyranny pretty much always works. At least for a time.

So, those of you who claim we can't take the White House back in 2012, are you conceding that Obamunism will work?

Wrong question.  What matters is whether people think that Obamunism worked (or alternatively) whether they place the blame for it's failure on something or someone other than Obama.  For example, we now know the New Deal didn't really work - it prolonged the Depression.  But FDR was such a great salesman he was still able to create a broad coalition of loyal Democrats that supported the party for decades despite the devastating economic conditons. In contrast, Carter's popularity died with the much less devastating but still bad economy of the late 70s-early 80s. Carter couldn't communicate the same degree of confidence, nor inspire as much trust as FDR. That's a big reason the American people lost faith in him.  (i.e., it wasn't just the objective fact that the economy screwed up.)

Obama has the potential to create that same type of voting of coalition.  Especially when the Dems jam immigration reform through in the next 2 years.  You can bet there's no way in hell those 12 to 20 million new Americans are going to vote Republican after the tone of the immigration debate.  They will be loyal Obama Democrats for a long long time.

Republicans IMO really fucked up how they handled immigration reform.  The way they presented their argument played into the MSM stereotype that anti-immigration reform supporters are just hateful racist xenophobes.  For example, whenever I heard someone on TV discuss the issue they sounded very angry and hostile.  In addition, alot of spokespeople relied on hyperbole and anecdotal evidence. So as a consequence, my impression as a casual observer (I still self identified as a Dem at the time so I wasn't that tuned in to the subject) was that none of the anti-immigration leaders (Tancredo most notably) had a rational, sound, emprical evidence driven argument against immigration reform.  Instead I assumed, just like a typical liberal Democrat (lol), that Tancredo and his ilk were using fear tactics in an attempt to appeal to voters' latent racist tendencies.  Yep, I really bought into those stereotypes. I had the mindset of a typical liberal Dem Obamabot.  lol.

Given the MSM's liberal bent and the degree to which political correctness has permeated our culture, the only way conservative Republicans can win on issues like immigration reform is through  rational, sound, empircal evidence driven argument.  Anger and hostility play well to the already converted, but it turns off the rest (especially with the MSM pushing the idea that the only reason anyone would object to immigration reform is racism.) For example, I was really impressed when during one of the debates McCain said in reference to illegal immigrants something to the effect of  "we need to remember, these are God's children too." That probably nauseated alot of you! And you're probably rolling your eyes at the idea that an innocuous comment like that could make such an impression.  But I'm telling you, that little touch of humanity and compassion, even if it's not associated with any specific policy change or action, matters to alot of Dems and Independents. The key to winning on that type of issue IMO  is combining perceived kindness/compassion with solid rational  argument.

78 So, those of you who claim we can't take the White House back in 2012, are you conceding that Obamunism will work?

Let's put it this way: if the press was doing its job, Obama wouldn't have a chance in this election. But because they're doing his job, he might win.
