The American Media is Biased in Favor of Obama, Says... Russia

And they know a bit about manipulation of public thought.

ussia's Central Elections Committee has also assigned its Centre for the Study of Election Technology to review the U. S. election campaign.

A preliminary report prepared by the group, after studying U. S. media coverage on the NBC, CBS and ABC television networks since September, has concluded Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential candidate, has a "hidden advantage."

A preliminary report obtained by the Russian daily online newspaper Kommersant concludes the U. S. television networks devoted more time to Republican candidate John McCain, but "the material that makes up that time difference can be assessed as negative."

The Russian study also said Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential pick, has been subjected to more criticism than her Democratic counterpart, Senator Joe Biden.

It adds that when the presidential candidates' platforms are described, Mr. Obama's is described last, to make it look better, and when platforms are compared, "Obama's is presented preferable."

The observations appear to ape western criticisms of Russia's elections in which international observers have complained Russia's television networks are overwhelmingly pro-Kremlin and offer unbalanced and unfair coverage of opposition candidates.

Note they're releasing this defensively, to prove that Russia's own media abuses are just par for the course, no worse than that in the US.

And, apart from the murder of opposition journalists, they're pretty much right.

Thanks to locus.

Yeah. For now.

2 What a relief to have the Soviets Russians checking out the fairness of our elections.  Maybe we'll get a fair shake from their media.

3 Yeah, remember that whole "this whole stupid war was Dick Cheney's idea" thing your American media did?  We totally used that for Georgia! Thanks!!

6 I think the Russians are using reverse psychology.

They know that they don't want McCain to win because O will be a walk-over, so they make it look like they are supporting McCain.

This is 'hidden'?  I think they may have lost something in translation.

On the other hand almost 90% of the Germans want Obama to win, and I usually get nervous when the Germans get that united.

24 Wait, what?

Sarah Palin has been criticized in the media more than Joe Biden?  I can't believe it!

Is it possibly because, while Joe Biden says some stupid things from time to time, he is not an utter trainwreck of a candidate?  Could that be the reason?

Come on.  Forget Colin Powell, Scott McClellan and all the Parkers, Noonans, and Smerconishes of the world.  One of John McCain's freakin' advisors, Charles Fried, just voted for Obama, in large part (according to him) because of the selection of Sarah Palin.  She is a fucking joke. Some of you are even honest enough to admit it.

So obviously I am as at a loss for an explaination as you all are for why the media would be picking on her so unfairly.

26 Mætenloch, the poll of the Germans with such a high favorability percentage was back before when he visited Germany. Note also that a huge chunk of this is "Different party than Bush ist sur gut!"

The German press has been more than a little miffed that he wanted the Brandeburg Gate as a vista, and the bank panics have been like a giant club whacking Europe.

I'd be interested in a new poll.

I'd be interested in a new poll.

I looked for a newer one, but couldn't find any. Still, it seems a little weird from an american point of view since you could never get 90% of americans to even agree that chocolate ice cream is good.

I check David's Medienkritik periodicaly to see what's up with the German media, and it's pretty eye opening. Their regular, casual anti-american bias is shocking, even by our biased MSM standards.

So...Seattle Slough; why is that?  When we say Obama is a socialist we have a clip of him to prove it.

Proof by repetition only works when your audience fears to answer.  Question for you: Why does a community organizer and part-time senator outrank in experience a governor, mayor or career naval officer?  Repetition tells you so?

Posted by: spice at October 25, 2008 02:50 AM (c14cm)

49 As an insider i can tell you that the while the american media is hardly biased, still such level of bias would be a significant progress of what we have here. All the three main (ORT, Russia, NTV) networks are owned by Kremlin, ORT and Russian has been always owned by them and NTV (initially independent and highly critical of Kremlin and Putin) has been seized (after that many anti-Kremlin ex-ntv journalists formed a new channel TV-6 which existed as far as i remember for about a year before being shut down). The only tv channel which all these years has been critical of Kremlin is called REN-TV, however about 2-3 years ago they also included an opinion show which is decidedly pro-Kremlin. I guess this was some sort of informal Fairness Doctrine imposition.
