LAT Stands By Flat Denial That There Is "No Recorded Evidence" That Barack Obama "Launched" His Political Career From The Terrorist Ayers' Living Room

Patterico is all over them because there is, of course, recorded evidence -- the long-ago posting of a blog entry by an Obama supporter who attended the political meet-and-greet. (That entry is now deleted, but it lives on in Google cache).

But what Patterico should be nailing them for is far more egregious.

It turns out the LAT is claiming the allegation is false -- utterly false -- because they're quibbling with the word "launched." Another witness, they say, says she remembers there being other coffees before this one, and therefore he didn't "launch" his campaign from Ayers' living room.

But note the LAT does not explain that narrow distinction when the label the story false. They claim it is false in both broad outline as well as in the particulars. They do not take the one sentence necessary to explain, properly, that while there is some dispute about whether this was the first coffee, there is no dispute the coffee actually happened, and indeed may have been the first as well.

Instead, they just echo Barack Obama's obnoxiously dishonest blanket denial -- concealing the fact that that denial is being made on extremely narrow grounds.

Apparently they can take the time to explain this very narrow disputation to Patterico in an email, but don't believe it should be shared with the general public.

1 Typical Democratic lawyer bullshit - "that depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is."

Posted by: Jim62sch at October 22, 2008 07:38 PM (ubHgw)

2 Obama did this during the debate when he responded to McCain...he specifically accentuated the word "launched" when he said that he DIDN'T "launch" hi political career in Ayres living room. Obama emphasized the word "launched."

I'll PayPal whatever's necessary to get it back, if that's the problem.

LAT?  What is that?  Is that another anti-semitic gay gossip newsletter?  How many of those do you subscribe to Ace?

8 Some fool at the LA Times will later win a Pulitzer for exposing the fact that Obama began his political career in Ayres living room.  Maybe even a Nobel Prize to go with it!

Posted by: dfbaskwill at October 22, 2008 08:00 PM (z6fKT)

9 Was Obama's political career launched from the same living room in which Ayers babysat Obama's children?

Was the idea hatched when they worked together in the same office?

10 I guess it all depends on what your meaning of the word "Launch" is? Where have we heard this before? When was the last time we had a fatherless- growing-up lawyer and his lawyer wife in the White House?

11 And you can never get a letter to the editor published in the LAT.

13 The LA Times is about 2500 miles closer to me, and they just might go out of business before the NY Times. Perhaps acquiring the LA Times is doable ... I like the idea of offering the entire staff, editors, columnists, journalists, reporters and the rest of the lackeys, continued employment, contingent on full disclosure of, over the last 15 years, the various facts they ommitted, leads they failed to follow up, names of people they interviewed, names of people who influenced their writing, ... in short, a full admission of guilt. I bet many politicians would be jailed as a result, as well as many influential people. I bet that more than a few serious crimes would be solved as well.

14 From Instapundit:

LOOKING FOR PATTERICO? I can see his site fine, but a lot of people can't. He emails: "The domain company gave me bad information, and thereby caused the problem people are experiencing. The domain name is still mine and the issue is being resolved, but it's taking time."

Posted by: The Raving Atheist at October 22, 2008 08:47 PM (Xopk4)

15 I had actually hoped that when the Chicago Tribune bought the LA Times there might be some improvement, but it never happened because the Tribune itself, which used to be a Republican newspaper, was too far gone.

16 I am by nature a little paranoid, but I believe the following has happened.

1) I did not forget to renew, but the hosting company (1&1) gave me bad information about what I needed to do to renew.  This was only straightened out Monday night, thanks to at least two miscues on their part.

2) They're being really slow about doing the transfer.

3) The information that you see on whois is simply their public representative, because I have registered the domain privately.

I temporarily panicked after seeing a commenter on my blog insinuating that the site had been poached.  But after some frantic phone calls, I pieced together the above.

Because these folks are being so slow to correct their error, you might want to bookmark this temporary Patterico link.  If you have problems getting through to patterico.com, try that.

17 Patterico, you are with 1&1?  They are tied at the hip to sedo/domcollect.

They did not make a mistake, they fucked you on purpose.

I researched DomCollect several months ago after they stole my friend's web site, and the trail led back to 1&1.

Don't think 1&1 is about to give you your site back.  It will be up for auction by sedo soon enough (I checked, and it's not up for auction yet).  And by "auction," I mean a sham auction where they will take your bid, triple it, and throw that new number back in your face.

P.S.: Patterico, when we click your name it still takes us to the sedo site.  You should immediately buy a new domain name ("PattericoBlog" "PatrickFrey" or whatever).  Getting back your name from these cheats could take time.

P.P.S.: Again, my information in these matters is somewhat sketchy--it's what i've been able to piece together based on google searches (there are a lot of people unhappy with Sedo/DomCollect/1&1 who believe they are frauds).  I can't personally verify that it is correct and I hope they aren't stupid enough to try to cheat you.  I hope I'm wrong about all this.

Posted by: Unfounded Speculation at October 23, 2008 01:41 AM (YvLui)

18 I hope you're wrong about it too.

But I'm not sure.

Posted by: Patterico at October 23, 2008 02:34 AM (F2Rge)

19 Frank at 1&1 just assured me that my site will not be given to anyone else.

And I think we can all agree that we would certainly trust a faceless representative of a faceless company who makes a seemingly sincere assurance over the phone.

Now if you'll pardon me, I have to go to sleep.  And, given Frank's personal assurance, you can bet I'll sleep like a baby.

Ever notice how much babies cry when they sleep?
