You Know...

The groundwork is being laid for Obama -- or rather his surrogates, and the media (but I repeat myself) -- to insist on McCain suspending his campaign when Obama suspends his own to visit his ailing grandmother.

Who, incidentally, has most likely been ailing for a very long time. But he has to visit her now, in the homestretch of the campaign. No way he could have done so when he took a vacation in the Caribbean after wrapping up the primaries.

Obama insisted "we can chew gum and walk at the same time" when McCain suggested suspending campaigning to deal with the financial crisis. I'll remind him that if he can do so, he can't whine that McCain wants to continue with this whole presidential election bother when he checks in on grandma.

So, how is Obama dealing with his grief currently? He's in the sixth stage of dealing with loss: Attacking John McCain.

I don't begrudge him that-- I will, however, note that he is not free to call a special Ramadan -- call it an Obamadan -- whenever he thinks it will benefit him the most.

Here's Joe Biden, laying the predicate:

Today a grieving Barack Obama, wracked by pangs of imminent loss, who through his surrogates and the media will demand that McCain ease up on attacks during a crucial three or four days a week and a half out from an election, declared:

"John McCain isn't fighting for Joe the Plumber! John McCain is fighting for Joe the Hedge Fund Manager! Joe the CEO! He's in cahoots with him!"

He didn't attack John McCain for personal political reasons, mind you. He did it to give his grandmother a much-needed morale boost. Studies have proven that the sick respond well to populist attacks on Republican candidates. It gives them the fight to pull through.

Studies. Have shown.

And today on Ellen, an obviously distraught Barack Obama heroicially picked up the pieces of his life to... dance. To dance a dance of life, and love, and family.

For his grandmother. Who, by the way, must not be troubled by John McCain's attacks on Obama's tax and spend plans throughout her sickness.

Have no doubts: Obama's surrogates and the media (but I repeat myself) will insist that McCain stop campaigning for three or four critical days a week and a half out from an election.

I feel bad about his grandmother. I will not however allow him to pull a Johnny Fairplay to grab immunity in a presidential election.

They don't need to take an enforced "time out" while the Democrat-supported 527s and the pro-Obama MSM pound 'em without a chance to answer. Screw them, full court press time!

8 Is it his white gramma, or his, erm, non-white gramma.

I want to know, because one makes my feelings on this racist, and the other makes me simply heartless.

Who the fuck am I fooling? I'm a heartless, Godless, racist according to the likes of McCain and Lindsey Graham -- I'm sure the Obama side doesn't hold me in a higher regard than today's very modern Republican.

9 I'm calling B.S. on the Typical White Person visit. This is a pre-arranged, staged event, scheduled by David Axelrod weeks ago. It's designed to remind whitey that the tan dude is, you know, of mixed heritage.

It's all very psychological. And makes total sense to warped left wing idiot like Axelrod. The rest of us? Meh.

16 I want a list Ace; A list of media kingpins and talking heads who have been covering for Obama and attacking everyone else. Because if Obama gets elected president they are the ones responsible. They tried to throw it for Gore, they tried to throw it for Kerry and now it looks like they might actually throw it for Obama.
So I say if Obama gets in we give him an honest try, but if our worst fears are realized then if we have a list WE WILL KNOW WHO TO PUNISH FOR TREASON!

19 Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, please. The same Obama, who refused to go to Washington in order to care about the nation (what is meant to be his job as president, if he gets it), now wants his opponant to stop all campaigning on behalf of an Obama personal moment?

I'm not insenstive to people's times of need, but this is more than need--it's opportunity to him. And it's not just selfishness, it's narcissism. And isn't this grandma the same woman he described as a "typical white person"? The fact that he is willing to use her as a tool to demonstrate his "sensitivity" is purely disgusting and yet another in a long list of examples of how arrogant and ruthless he is. If the woman were to actually die sometime next week, he could garner some sympathy and maybe legitimately (to the uninformed masses) call for a campaign suspension.

29 Given that the lefty blogs are already talking about what a brilliant political move this is on Obama's part, I think the narrative has, for the most part, started unraveling.

Primarily because no one can actually say what has happened to Obama's grandmother, when it happened, and why it's so important -- especially since Obama is not seeing fit to take his daughters with them to see their dying great-grandma.

Posted by: Faye Kinnitt at October 22, 2008 03:54 PM (l1oyw)

42 To Brandon's point, that's the other thing that is unraveling this; Obama couldn't be bothered to interrupt campaigning for what he was claiming was a major national emergency that would affect hundreds of millions of people, but he can find it in himself to stop for a few days to go visit someone whose injuries, condition, and so forth are shrouded in deep, dank mists.

Given that the AP and the leftist media were deconstructing Sarah Palin's every contraction on the way back to Alaska to "prove" that Trig was not her child, one would think that they could at least come up with a coherent story as to why Obama's grandma is so sick. As they've shown, there is no such thing as medical privacy any more; hence, bring forth the records.

And tell us why Michelle and the girls aren't going, especially if Grandma is dying. Why would Obama deprive her of a chance to see her great-grandchildren one last time?

Posted by: North Dallas Thirty at October 22, 2008 03:54 PM (E3Yxq)

49 Will the media suspend their coverage of Obama while he's in Hawaii, or surround his grandmother's home with cameras?   I actually think if there's too much airtime (or any) devoted to him holding her hand and weeping at her bedside, people will catch on to what a shameless ruse this is.

In the meantime, let's get the grandmother's full medical records to determine how long she's been ill and precisely how serious her condition is.  And let's have Obama's travel and phone records for the past five years to see how often he's spoken to her or visited.

Think of Granny as a prisoner.  It's imperative that they make sure she is not overheard saying -- oops! -- the wrong thing. Nursing homes are much too public, there may be witnesses that sympathize with Joe the Plumber --  so it's back to the condo, and the Obama-guard, she goes.

Have no doubts: Obama's surrogates and the media (but I repeat myself) will insist that McCain stop campaigning for three or four critical days a week and a half out from an election.

And John McCain will kneel down before his masters in the media and give in. Stubborn to the end in his retarded belief that the Republican candidate for President will ever be given a fair shake by the media.  In fact no matter what he does they'll fault him for it so he might as well just go on with his campaign.  He won't though because he still, after all the last six months should have taught him, looks to the media to set the parameters of what's acceptable behavior and what are acceptable topics in this campaign.

This is really just an excuse to roll out pictures of Obama with his grandma in order to show what a great guy he is.  I wonder if he'll pull the million negative ad's he's got running while he's out in Hawaii.  I wonder if all the Dem 527's will pull their ad's.  Nope, just Johnny Mac, the guys got sucker written on his forehead.

From Obama's vacation in Hawaii this summer:

Obama -- escorted by Secret Service and accompanied by a few campaign staff and a pool of reporters and camera crews -- arrived at about 4:10 p.m. yesterday and spent an hour with his 85-year-old maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who helped raise him. He was not accompanied by his wife, Michelle, and two daughters.

Glad you picked up on that, Dan!  And, since she has a broken hip, a nice change from the "stand up and let 'em see ya" thing, lol!

Obama is such a POS.  Fuck him.

Besides, when they first announced this "emergency" visit, days ago, the story said that Michelle would be campaigning for him (I think in Indiana or Ohio).  Have they come to their senses about putting her mouth out there or is she just too grief-stricken at this point?

You know, I have genuine sympathy for Mrs. Dunham and am happy to keep her in my prayers.  But it's very disturbing to see the Obama camp now trying to turn this into another play in their game.  They just have NO SHAME.

Best of all possible worlds is that McCain suspends personal campaigning as long as Obama does, but sends Palin out to fulfill his schedule.

Barack Obama and the DNC failed to respond to Berg’s filing of Sep. 15 within the required 30 days, which means they ADMITTED to all the charges in the filing by default.
When they did not respond in any manner to any of the requests for information or documention the judge extended their deadline, and they then filed a motion for DISMISSAL and for a PROTECTIVE ORDER.
Their reasoning for requesting a protective order is that revealing the information (birth certificate, passports, citizenship in other countries) would “cause a defined and serious injury” to Obama and/or the DNC.
They say revealing these documents raises a “legitimate privacy concern” and the above mentioned risk that “particularly serious embarrassment will result from turning over the requested documentation.”

109 3. Obama was not so grief stricken that he canceled his dance debut on Ellen.

Can one of you morons explain this to me in terms that I can understand?  A few years ago I had the extreme misfortune of watching this garbage show.  I assume they only ask stupid people to go on there because the day I watched it Nicole Kidman was on and she made Scientology dickbag Tom Cruise look like a relative mensa.  But before that I saw Ellen (without a doubt one of the most unfunny people ever; both in her previous pathetic standup routines and now uber-lezzo) doing this dance parody that had to be one of the most awkward things I've ever seen.  I thought there must be some new genre of entertainment to drop television one notch below reality tv:  White minstrel shows.  Somebody told me that was a regular feature (there's absolutely no fucking way I'm watching that shit ever again) and I'm just wondering what the mindset is of people that find that entertaining.  Wasting time until the next Jerry Springer show?

111 Ace:  I feel bad about his grandmother.

If you're like me, Ace, that's not exactly true.  I don't feel badly about Obama's grandmother.  I don't know her, I don't know him, and whatever ailment she's allegedly suffering does not impact me or my life.  I recognize her alleged illness as a rather unfortunate fact of life, but I'm not sympathetic to the fact that, even when you're HIM, life happens.  It sucks for him; I can empathize; in the grand scheme of things, I have to ask, "So what?"

Any reliance by Him or His supporters on some sort of equitable fairness argument is bullshit, also.  Was it fair to allow the press to libel Joe the Plumber?  Is it fair to use bullshit threats to suppress legitimate campaign discourse through intimidation from attorneys general, district attorneys, sheriffs, and requests to the justice department?  Is it fair to disguise payments to CLS and ACORN, known perpetrators of voter registration fraud, as lighting and audio fees?  Likewise, is it fair to not denounce the voter registration fraud that ACORN has perpetrated, fraud that will ultimately end up benefitting Obama himself?  Was it fair for the Obama campaign to allow - if not encourage - caucus fraud in the primaries?  Was it fair to fail to disuade and to be actively complicit in the character assassination of Sarah Palin?  Was it fair to characterize John McCain's suspension of his candidacy to work on the bailout in Washington as a political stunt?

What makes Obama think he's entitled to any more respect than that he showed McCain?  Obama's hands aren't clean.  It's tragic that things are going poorly for him right now.  He's got to learn to suck it up.  If Obama is elected president (which I'm forecasting will happen right about the time there's a snowstorm in hell), the world isn't going to take a breather while Obama convalesces from some family emergency.   Life happens, and it doesn't wait.  Too bad, so sad, but ain't no way that I'ma feel bad.

Anyone in the MSM with an ounce of brains is a complete stooge at this point, unless they're willing to point out the CRASS HYPOCRISY of CAMPAIGNING AGAINST THE FACT THAT YOUR OPPONENT IS CAMPAIGNING!!!

If Obama walks up to my yard and asks me if I have any questions, I'm gonna say "Hey, McCain's pretty old and you're so young, why don't you cut off one of your legs to make it a fair fight?" Makes just about as much sense as this horseshit.

142 "Sorry Senator Obama.  But I can't allow you to bring all these cameras and people in to visit your Grandmother.  The strain would be too much for her."

143 " No way he could have done so when he took a vacation in the Caribbean after wrapping up the primaries."

just a note: the vacation you refer to was to hawaii and he indeed did visit his grandmother while he was there.

144 Turn on your TV and watch for yourself, you libtard nitwit.  That's EXACTLY what his surrogates are suggesting.

Nope, not on my TV.  What HAS been suggested, by both sides, is that McCain should refrain from being an asshole with regard to Obama stepping off to visit his dieing grandmother because it would make him look like - guess what?- an asshole.  There is NOTHING on TV, radio, web that Obama or his surrogates called for McCain to suspend his campaign.   GrayLoess: just another zero for McCain.

145 What HAS been suggested, by both sides, is that McCain should refrain from being an asshole with regard to Obama stepping off to visit his dieing grandmother

What could he possibly do that would be assholish?

146 As reported in the Hillary Clinton Forum, on Monday October 20th, Andy Martin petitioned the Hawai'i Supreme Court to order Obama's secret birth records released.

Do you think that might have something to do with the Senator's sudden desire to see his grandmother?

Also, the diagnosis of Osteoarthritis for his grandmother is not a terminal illness.

Posted by: Mary RN at October 24, 2008 11:13 AM (vt8OU)

147 So Obama went to Hawaii.  McCain continued campaigning.  Grandma is still alive.  Citizenship challenge case has been thrown out.  The world is still standing.  Now what will we talk about?

Posted by: Cathy A at October 26, 2008 04:08 AM (M6Y5B)

148 Oh and grandma has a broken hip and whether or not she has OA, no one claimed that was her terminal illness.  Broken hips CAN be terminal in the elderly, BTW, and there's data to support this.  How can so many people be so inept at sorting through the gossip and speculation and hate-inspired suggestion to find a reasonable version of reality?
