Sarah on CNN: UPDATED

With Drew Griffin, who's been all over the ACORN story and confusing the hell out of Wolf Blitzer.

Pretty good interview. I haven't found any Biden interview clips yet but I am looking.

from commenter "Kirsten Powers" in the Watada thread.

UPDATE: blogger and commenter Drumwaster dangles a few Grants for you prognosticators.

Closest Electoral Breakdown, Senate breakdown by Party, House by Party.

It's like football picks. Only you get something for it besides a load of crap.

1 Dis-arming. Misunderestimated. W in heels. Who says the VP candidate doesn't affect the race. Total BS. And Drew better get his resume updated, he isn't long for CNN. I'd say he is a Ailes/Rove plant.

Good heavens.  She had Drew Griffin wrapped around her little finger by the end of that.  Imagine how different this race would be right now if she had performed this well with Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric.  I believe John McCain would be running away with this election.  I fear that too many voters made up their minds about her, and about McCain for choosing her, based on those interviews, and this one will not change their minds.  I'm glad I kept an open mind.  She has proven to me that she is more than capable of doing the VP job and even being President.  And my party now has a new leader.

Indeed.

With a 10 point deficit in the polls and early voting breaking 2-1 for Obama. Is there a way in which Sarah can start immunizing herself from what is honestly starting to look like a lanslide for the McCain/Palin ticket. Obvioisly she has to keep giving it her all, but I hope she doesn't go down permanently with McCain.

16 Don_erico - I am just curious about your comment "early voting breaking 2-1 for Obama", these are from exit poll interviews, I presume? My consolation at this point is independents usually do not do early voting. That said, I still think McCain will squeak through (at least I am praying very hard for this).

20 If there is an Obama landslide, it would be the dawn of socialism and the first regulation that would be in play is the Media Fairness Doctrine and a similar one for the Internet, and that would be basically mark the end of conservative talk shows and blogs, etc. Nazi Pelosi was already talking about it earlier this year. Maybe at that point, the MSM will finally wake up from their Obama-induced stupor..
My husband and I are seriously thinking about leaving So Cal and buying some property way out in New Mexico where we can cling bitterly to our guns and religion in case there is an Obama landslide.

22 landslide?  what landslide?

I meant to say for Obambi. Just too much data supporting this reality out there. The only hope is a massive republican turnout, but so far the democrats are turning out in twice the numbers that the republicans are. The race here in NC might well be already decided, Obama's GOTV is showing incredible strength, the lines are huge and are in great part composed of the 98% Obama demographic.
We need to keep encouraging republicans to get out there an vote.

23 But isn't this a repeat of 2004? Pre-election polls and even exit polls showed Kerry winning. I recall Kerry being up by 10 point about 10 days from the election in most of the polls. Only Rasmussen I think, got fairly accurate towards the last few days. Maybe this is wishful thinking on my part, but this year, the dynamics are just so different than any other elections - with ex-Hillary supporters, Palin supporters, people who are still unsure of Obambi - I am just not convinced the polls are capturing these..

Absolutely not. The polls in 2004 were tight. There were not multiple polls showing double digit leads for Kerry. No fucking way. Im not smoking that crack and no one else here should either

THis is a totally different dynamic. Not saying these current polls are true- but the numbers are very, very different

In 2004 a few here and there showed Kerry up a few points, but not dozens of them showing outside the margin of error leads, including in red states like VA.

28 Here is one report regarding early voting:
http://tinyurl.com/5sgsgg
The info on NC is confirmed by local observation.
I know it can be counterproductive to bring up the state of the race since it can demoralize our side. But it is also important to know what is going on out there so we can react. We cannot take it easy in the belief that all these polls and data are wrong. We need to redouble our efforts to talk to everyone we have the chance to. McCain is at a serious disadvantage in the ground game and will need the help of every able republican.
I still believe that if every republican votes and if we can convince some "independents" of the disastrous consequences of an Obama victory, we can win.

Why is everyone talking about an Obama landslide already???  Because of early voting???  Damn, if I'm correct, the real election date isn't until 11-4.  What was it...Gallup...that had them within a single point of each other yesterday?  That doesn't equate to a landslide in my book.  That's not to say that fraud isn't going to run away with this, but why the doom & gloom?  The msm all want us to believe it's over.  It's not over because election day isn't even here!  With rare exceptions, most people I know are scared shitless that Obama is going to win.  Plus, I know of noone personally that has voted early.  BTW, I think this voting early is bull.  Why even have election day?

As for the interview, I thought Sarah was great.  Very well spoken when pieces of her aren't left on the cutting room floor.  She's adorable & has a special light about her.  Loved the "leg lamp" someone mentioned earlier behind Griffin.  lol

It's depressing.  Every day I look at all the latest poll numbers.  It's ugly.

I know that a lot of people around here don't trust the polls, and continue to believe they're wrong.  I'm afraid that's the triumph of hope over reason.  (Although I have to admit that if Obama's high numbers must be the triumph of HopeyChangey over reason.  It's hard to believe, but there it is.)

All the polls aren't wrong.  The poll average is just about always accurate.  Go back and look at the poll average just before the last few presidential elections.

The whole fucking situation is depressing.  Pray for the game changer.  (At this point I'm thinking anything short of an alien invasion won't be enough.  But that's just me.)

I absolutely agree, it opens the doors for all kind of problems. Same with organizations like ACORN registering voters. If people are unmotivated and clueless about the future of the country, I'd rather they stayed home. I don't buy the argument that higher voter participation, regardless of the quality of the participation, is good for democracy.

38 Well, I for one an NOT giving up! It ain't over till its over (which would be 11/5). Back to the polls, I was reading an article on RCP (Real Clear Politics) that mentioned most of the people who agree to be polled (either pre-election or exit polling) are enthusiastic Democrats and that was most apparent this year with Obama and that is why he consistently under-performed when the actual votes were counted.

Rules are simple - be the first to correctly predict:
1) the party breakdown in the House;
2) the party breakdown in the Senate; and/or
3) the Electoral College count for the Presidential election,

and win $50. (If no one gets it exactly right, whoever is closest will win.)

The reason I'm advertising is that the contest ends next Tuesday - one week before election day - and I only have a handful of entries. Anyone want to play?

I'm not at all a conspiracy theorist, but I did find two things interesting.  Yesterday, I heard about the Hotline poll having McCain within 1 of Obama, and that seemed to come after a couple of days of relatively good poll news -- Gallup, the leaked Obama internal.  But this morning my WSJ had a huge headline at the very top of the paper, saying "Obama opens up double digit lead in new poll."

Then a tiny bit of attention is paid to the Military Times poll that shows members of the armed forces overwhelmingly supporting McCain, and Zogby is out with a poll today that shows Obama within 2 in military households.  (Having been in the military, I can tell you that's just not true.  I think Obama has slightly higher support in the military than he would if he were white, because black soldiers feel solidarity with him, but the military is overwhelmingly conservative.)

I get the feeling that there's a bunch of people in the press and polling who watch for any good news and then act to counteract it with fresh agit-prop.

I think the point has been made, folks- we're not going to know until after the election if any of the polling has been accurate. We can only go for the moment with what our PUMA allies have told us- Obama overpolled by an average of 7%.

So let's try this as a benchmark- a 2-4% differential means that McCain is well within striking distance. We can't completely discount everything going on in the polls, but it's the great Limbaugh axiom, echoed by Boortz...

"Gee, I wonder if that's true?"

60 These public consumption polls are, if not actually unscientifically designed and employed, gamed or weighted. Don't trust any of them, up or down. Even the trend lines appear incoherent based on events and behavior.

Watch what the candidates do. Listen to how the campaign hacks spin an event/gaffe. Their internals indicate what they think has traction, and it's what they emphasize during "interviews." When "Joe the Plumber" comes up, for example, the universal talking point memo from the Left is that "Americans find Obama's 'socialism' talk irrelevant and erroneous," and that "it's a distraction from the horrid economy Bush created." It's become rote. We know the story of "Joe" has traction, that Obama's response serves as a microcosm of Obama's economic worldview, and it impacts the blue collar moderate swing voters, yet somehow public consumption polls are trending up for Obama? Bulllll-shit.

Talk to friends, family, and acquaintances. Donate. Stay focused. Don't let the press run through a story in a single news cycle. "Old" stories bear repeating. Most people are not in tune with every nuanced episode. Explain and remind them of the big ones: Fannie/Freddie/ACORN/Wright/Ayers/Pfleger/Rezko/flip-flops/Iraq war defunding/radicalism. There is so much there yet they remain alomost wholly uncovered via legacy media. Keep retelling. New stories dilute those old bombshells which is what works to the benefit of Team Axelrod.

Damn good read by Tony Blankley today that I think ties into the discussion:

I think that Miss Noonan may have unconsciously touched on what is really going on here when she accuses Mrs. Palin - who is attracting crowds as big if not bigger than any Reagan ever drew - of being a "follower … not a leader." Miss Noonan's unconscious fear may be that it will be precisely Mrs. Palin (and others like her) who will be among the leaders of the about to be re-born conservative movement. I suspect that the conservative movement we start re-building on the ashes of November 4th (even if Mr. McCain wins) will have little use for over-written, over-delicate commentary.

The new movement will be plain spoken and social networked up from the internetted streets, suburbs and small towns of America. It certainly will not listen very attentively to those conservatives who idolatrize Mr. Obama and collaborate in heralding his arrival. They may call their commentary "honesty." I would call it - at the minimum - blindness.

If McCain wins, great. Why didn't you help us win? If not, and Obama mucks things up real good. You voted for Mr. Articulation, how that going for you now?

There is a need for conservative "elites," in that there is a need for economists, military experts, and the like who are at the tops of their fields. There is no need what so ever for "elites" who consider themselves better than those whom they wish to influence or govern.

A year or two from now, the big question is going to be, "Where did you stand in 2008, when things weren't going so great?"

I know you guys do not think americans are buying this. Your right. They are not. Your letting them beat you. They did this to Hillary as well. you guys have awfully short and selective memory';s

Would Mac be in PA?NH?MN?WI? if it were that bad???

Would Senator Government and Joe the 6-term senator spend every other day in Scranton and Philly if they had it locked? Would Joe be in Washington(the state) campaigning? Would they be in NH campaigning? Palin is outdrawing them in NH and PA.

In colorado she just had the biggest political rally in the state EVAH.

The media and polls say what they want them to say. Hillary stomped Senator Government in each and every large state and blue collar state except Ill and NC.

early voting will not decide, and how do you know who the votes go for? They are not counted until the 4th. You guys are letting Senator Government play you.

69 Can I ask an honest question? What are the use of pre-election polls? They have NO significance other than to the parties. They are reported as coming fact. The media acts like we should give the scepter to Lord Obama as we speak.

Can we please wait till election night to be depressed. The truth is we don't know how this will play out any more than you know if the Phillies or Rays will win. Anything can happen and Biden still has a mouth.

70 Drew strikes me as a fundamentally good person. I think he got set up by the morons at CNN over excerpt from Byron's article.

Sarah owned the interview and Drew let Sarah answer the questions instead of interrupting. You can't ask for more than that.

Very good definition here: basically a liberal pretending to be a conservative to spread dissention.

75 The local paper-Seattle Times--did not carry anything on Biden's gaffe. The reporting from the event read like a Obama press release.

Amazing that the local paper with a huge scoop would throw that away just to protect their biases. Reporting Biden's latest gaffe could have been picked up by a number of papers. Could have been used as a basis to report the disappearance of Biden from the campaign trail for the last few days.

Yet they ignored all of it in order to merely parrot the Obama press release.

I sent a letter to the editor and the reporter asking why this was done. I should send the same letter to the owners asking them why they pissed away revenue opportunities....

77 Remember that the polls had Kerry up by double digits in many States during October, '04.

The polls had Algore winning right up until the close of polling places in the central Time Zone on election night, 2000.

It's still "Former Vice President Gore" and "Senator Kerry", though, isn't it?

Zombie has a great essay up about why the polls consistently skew towards the Democrats (usually 4-6 points), even when the Democrat is trailing (as Mondale was in '84 - polls had him within MoE, but it turned out to be 18.2% in popular vote and the greatest electoral college landslide in history, 525-13)

I see we have one exploding head from a McCain win.

I envision a great ad for McCain--showing the vast majority of fools whose head will explode on a McCain win! I would think a picture of Michael Moore's head exploding would garner at least 100,000 more votes right there.

I add Biden to that list, but it is clear his head exploded long ago since he seems to have been talking out of his ass for years.

Turn off the TV.  Step away from the computer.  Get your bottoms over to your local republican headquarters and ask what you can do to help.
