It's sad to say, but the American people don't give a crap if Obama was trained and recuited by a terrorist. All they care about is getting their check from the government when it taxes the 5% of the rich.

days.
I'd like to point out, as I've tried to point out several times over the past week, that this new geoff is not me. I've commented here for over 4 years using "geoff" as a moniker, though I've slacked off for the past year. Now I have a bunch of long-time regulars asking me why I'm saying this stuff. So I'd appreciate it if the new geoff would modify his moniker to avoid me being saddled with responsibility for his comments. And I can assure you that when used properly, "geoff" is not "jeff" gone all gay and shit. Posted by: geoff at October 21, 2008 12:43 AM (kyIj8) 54
#52 I was thinking that this morning, too, Dead Career Sketch, but I think the reasoning behind it is to make viewers think, 'That could have been me going to a dance,' and if they were all servicemen in the photos, it might make it seem like that would only have happened to other people, not me (even if it isn't historically accurate). For the uninformed or those disengaged from all of the political discourse, that video just looks like a hit piece put together by the tinfoil hat wing of the Republican party. Seriously, it makes a huge jump from mad bomber to Obama supporter without much in the way of explanation. Afraid to run it? Of course--it's a little over the top if you ask me. It needs a little further connection of dots. Otherwise it's just a slide show with scary music--no different than saying McVeigh voted for Reagan or some other such nonsense. They should be pissed off. I'm pissed off about this. The question is; Why isn't everyone really pissed off about this?
Because these pigs have had control of our overculture and our schools for the last thirty years. This issue is a non-starter to a broad swath of Americans because they've been indoctrinated with a belief system that is identical to Ayers'. Every movie and TV show, who's the baddie? It's always some combo of white, rich, southern and/or Christian, works for Uncle Sam, very patriotic, which of course that patriotism is always twisted to be jingoism. Every schoolbook is filled to the brim with the crap that people like Ayers put into it. People hear about what Ayers did and think "Yeah, stick it to the Man! Fight the power!" When this stuff gets brought up by McCain and his surrogates most people shrug and say "Eh, who cares?" because this is the cultural sea they've been swimming in, it's in their mother's milk. They've been bred not to care. Sydney Carton had it right above. Most people just want their cheap goodies and a rousing, easy to understand, defense of the free market as the way to get them was what McCain needed to do, not support slightly less socialism than Obama and scream about Wall Street greed. Joe the Plumber and "spread the wealth" were a gift from God. Let's hope Mac and Sarah use them. We have to convince these people who are dead to patriotic feeling that Obama's not just going to go after the rich, he's coming for them too. The direct quote is "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel that we didn't do enough", Obot.
And that matters why, exactly, Obot? That changes the meaning how, Obot? He was setting the bombs why, Obot? Oh, right, it matters the same way that Joe the Plumber not having a license (and not needing one) matters when Obama screws up and lets his mask slip.
Posted by: Dead Career Sketch at October 21, 2008 02:25 AM (ekxa7) 65
What do you suppose a nailbomb set off at a crowded dance would do, Obot? Be specific.
Posted by: Dead Career Sketch at October 21, 2008 02:29 AM (ekxa7) 66
Should have included something about Ayers wealthy and well placed father getting him off, while Ayer's cronies went to jail for 25 years.
Could mention also that $100million tax dollars, given by Ayers to BO thru the Annenburg challenge, to allegedly reform Chicago's school system, but which served to reinforce BO's GOTV Community organizations. Posted by: laurie at October 21, 2008 02:41 AM (6uK5Q) 67
"I bought up the subject of what's going to happen after we take over the government. We, we become responsible, then, for administrating, you know, 250 million people. And there was no answers. No one had given any thought to economics; how are you going to clothe and feed these people. The only thing that I could get, was that they expected that the Cubans and the North Vietnamese and Chinese and the Russians would all want to occupy different portions of the United States. They also believed that their immediate responsibility would be to protect against what they called the counter-revolution. And they felt that this counter-revolution could best be guarded against by creating and establishing re-education centers in the southwest, where we would take all the people who needed to be re-educated into the new way of thinking and teach them... how things were going to be. I asked, well, what's going to happen to those people that we can't re-educate; that are die-hard capitalists. And the reply was that they'd have to be eliminated. And when I pursued this further, they estimated that they would have to eliminate 25 million people in these re-education centers. And when I say eliminate, I mean kill. 25 million people. I want you to imagine sitting in a room with 25 people, most of which have graduate degrees from Columbia and other well known educational centers, and hear them figuring out the logistics for the elimination of 25 million people. And they were dead serious." Larry

I watched the video with the sound off, and I found it quite powerful that way. I think it's great. Perhaps it could be tightened up a bit, but I believe the story it tells is quite accurate.
I suspect that a possible reason why the Ayers story is not resonating more powerfully with the electorate (besides the media blackout, that is) is that Ayers and Dohrn were never punished for their crimes because they got off on a technicality. This is one aspect of the story I seldom see highlighted. I'm not trying to split hairs here, but I am trying to give the electorate in general the benefit of the doubt, largely to maintain my own sanity. People may not understand that Ayers and Dohrn are not only unrepentant, but unpunished. Posted by: Otis Criblecoblis at October 21, 2008 03:04 AM (yJXTo) 69
Hurrican Mikey- Seriously, it makes a huge jump from mad bomber to Obama supporter without much in the way of explanation. Except that Reagan didn't have his political coming out party at McVeigh's house, work together with McVeigh, or let McVeigh babysit his kids. Posted by: Darth Randall at October 21, 2008 03:13 AM (oLULt) 70
Good, now cut it in half and add on one screen (with a URL to substantiate all these [accurate] claims):
Obama endorsed Ayers' book. Obama and Ayers worked side by side in a small office for years. Ayers appointed Obama to disburse millions in grant money. Ayers babysat Obama's children. Obama's campaign called Ayers "respectable" and "friendly" with Obama. Posted by: Josh at October 21, 2008 03:42 AM (zvwul) 71
Yeah, 3 or 4 quick dots connecting Obama after the living room career start.
also, Ayers didn't say he wished they had killed more, he said he wished they had done more, as I recall.

For the period from the morning after the close of the Republican National Convention, to and including October 15, 2008, I reviewed 23 leading "conservative" blogs, including of course my favorite, this one, for the purpose of determining with what reliability one can take the various 'urgings' and 'advice' to the McCain campaign, and themes, messages and attacks on the Obama campaign, as presaging the moves to follow from McCain, Palin and the RNC.
[I tried for a while to track 527 ads, but I never felt sure I was getting a clear and complete picture for each and every region I have what I think is pretty complete data for the southland, the northeast, the midwest, the east coast and Florida, but only spotty data for other regions. What I do have is somewhat consistent but there are some possibly important differences, so I won't bother any one with it unless and until I'm sure of the main themes.] Of those 23, AoSHQ ranks 4th in reliability, behind Allahpundit in 3rd place, Hot Air in second, and [naturally] Drudge in first. [I realize Drudge isn't really a blog, so if you want to discount it, be my guest. Also, I was surprised to find that Townhall didn't make it into the top ten, and even more so that the Weekly Standard online didn't even crack the top 20. That may speak to a common feature those two and NRO share, which is the occasional dissenting voice.] What I love about Ace's blog... [1] The reader gets a head's up about what's next to come from the McCampaign, the GOOP squad and the Wing 527s, plus more leering humor and prurient interest posts than on any of its rivals that are comparable. Well done Ace! It's just like Ace somehow knows ...or something. [2] The non-winger reader gets a clearer idea of what the winger dog whistles mean, without the authors actually drawing a picture. In other words, Ace and Hole Cards may mislead, and lie, and ill-serve the truth, but goddamit you don't feel like your intelligence is being dissed. Another plus, Ace: a markedly higher than typical respect for your readership. [3] The Obama administration will be able to pretty much not have resort beyond AoSHQ to put together a Fairness Doctrine rule for insufficiently independent poltical blogs. I think Ace is going to be a household word, like McCain-Feingold. Gudonya mate! Posted by: diderot's dog at October 21, 2008 05:49 AM (nrD02) 73

I think the tie between Ayers and Obama is an effective one, and the ad's set up of the planned Ft. Dix attack and the other Weathermen attacks is good. But... The music was overdone, the serial killer stuff should go (comparison to OK City attack was good), the "never prosecuted" is misleading - the prosecution was aborted because of FBI's rules breaking during the investigation. The pictures of the dressed up young people are not effective. I'm willing to be corrected, but the hair on those guys made me think they were not in the military. Distracting. More tie in with Ayer's recent past would be good, as #70 mentioned - more details of the radical education stuff. I'd stay away from the rumored babysitting.

Excellent video. The only thing I take exception to is that Ayers didn't say he regretted not killing more people, he said he regretted not setting more bombs and that they didn't do enough. That statement is powerful enough without the hyperbole of the misquote.

Great job. Couple of suggestions:
Music: Replace with a simple snare-drum riff, repeated for the entire time. Would emphasize the life-or-death seriousness of the subject matter. As noted above, the Ayers quote was that he regretted "not doing more"--which obviously could be interpreted either way, but is strong enough. Also add "Guilty as hell, free as a bird. Is this a great country or what?" (or whatever). Posted by: sf at October 21, 2008 10:05 AM (EsQly) 79
