McCain Camp Looking For Some Joes

The McCain camp wants to hear your "I Am Joe" story and they might even make it into a TV spot.

We want you to tell us how you are "Joe the Plumber" and why you're supporting John McCain and Sarah Palin in thirty seconds. You could even see your video as an official McCain TV ad.

By now, "Joe the Plumber" is a household name and has become a symbol of Barack Obama's plan to "spread the wealth around." During a recent campaign event in Toledo, Ohio, "Joe the Plumber" asked a simple question and got a surprising answer from the Democratic nominee. When he asked why Barack Obama's tax plan was going to punish him for working hard and living the American Dream, Barack Obama responded, "When you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

...That's why we want to hear from you and share your story with the American public. It's simple ... make an ad telling us why you are "Joe the Plumber" in 30 seconds and we'll put the best ad on the air as a TV ad.

Share your story of living the American Dream, working hard, or owning a small business to tell America why you're standing with John McCain and Sarah Palin. Click here today to learn more and submit your video before Friday, October 24th.

Have at it morons. If you put one on up on Youtube, leave the link in the comments and maybe I'll put a couple up here at some point.

Here's the link to submit your video.

1 In your video, since you only have 27 seconds, please refrain from mentioning your attraction to Sarah Palin. This goes double for my wife.

17 #10 -

Brilliant.  Imagine a commercial with several people speaking with their voices changed and their faces shrouded, saying they support McCain and Palin but are afraid of the media dragging their names through the mud.

They could tell stories about how their signs were firebombed, and their cars vandalized, and how they were attacked by the intolerant left in other ways...

21 Just remember it was another plumber who scuttled the European Constitution when the French voted on it a few years back. It was the "Polish" plumber from Eastern Europe, former USSR satellite, who by working in France for 1/3rd of what a French plumber made, scared the beejesus out of France as part of an integrated Europe. Never underestimate the political persuasion of plumbers, be they from Toledo or Warsaw.

I am Joe

I am just an average citizen who thinks you should be able to ask honest questions of politicians

I think I shouldn't have a 100 reporters surrounding my home just becuase the candidate regrets his truthful answer

I don't think my privacy should be violated and my entire life history published in the media or my character attacked because I asked a simple question.

I believe my company shouldn't be shut down because a candidate found his answer embarrassing

I am Joe and thought I lived in a country where citizens were free to questions their leaders without having their life destroyed becuase if the answer.

I'm Joe Pornstar.  Last year I banged 200 chicks for $1000 a pop (yeah I said pop).  Me and 4 other schmoes won an AVN award for best DVDA, so my stock is going up if you know what I mean.

This year I could be laying the pipe at least 4 times a week for $2500 clams each.  I stand to earn over $500,000 this year.  So this Obama cat wants me to "spread the wealth"?  He thinks I should give even more of my hard earned money ($200,000) to these other schmucks that don't even have a 10" schlong?

Pretty soon there will be no incentive left to wake up at the crack of noon and bang some hot 19 year old.  I'm a pornstar for chisakes, I know when someone's gettin' screwed.

Hello my name is Brian and I am a moron.

Posted by: Brian at October 20, 2008 02:12 PM (f1vXs)

37 I didn't need Joe or Obama to tell me that the tax structure in this country already 'spreads the wealth'.  I don't like what the media did in 'vetting' the guy, but it seems to me that McCain did more to make him a public figure by using him in the debate and now in every stump speech he does than Obama did.  I also didn't see Joe turning down any media interviews.  Reporters are like piranha - once the see someone giving an interview, it's like there's blood in the water - everyone's got to get a piece.

The more McCain uses this guy as a prop in his campaign, the more he justifies the media's intrusion on his personal life.  I can see the theme has really resonated with some people here, but I don't think McCain needs 'Joe' to make the case that Obama (and liberals in general) are for the redistribution of wealth.  I also don't know that's a winning strategy right now - I sure could use a little wealth spread my way at the moment.

Posted by: spamhead at October 20, 2008 02:25 PM (vBuk9)

38 Hey Obama, when 51% or move of the wager earners of this country end up not paying any taxes, what happens to the saying No taxation without representation???

Posted by: CDR M at October 20, 2008 02:28 PM (cqZXM)

39 The more McCain uses this guy as a prop in his campaign, the more he justifies the media's intrusion on his personal life.

I've seen this argument in some form or fashion on a dozen different forums.

It's McCain's fault that Obama stuck his own fat fucking foot in his mouth.

Good to see the talking points memos getting distributed properly.

Posted by: mpur at October 20, 2008 02:42 PM (BotaL)

40 It's certainly not McCain's fault that Obama answered the question the way he did.  It's McCain's fault that he attached it to this particular person and called him out by name in the debate and in every speech since.  If he hadn't, the "Cult of Joe" likely wouldn't have blossomed in the media or here on this forum.

Forget about the man, get back to the issue.

Oh, and by the way, unless a flat-tax plan is McCain's October Surprise, he's for welfare-by-tax-code too.

The Ides of Marx

LEAD: Old joke in Eastern Europe: Q. What is the difference, comrade, between Communism and capitalism? A. Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under Communism, the situation is reversed. As if to illustrate, Mikhail Gorbachev now promises a radical new reform to the toiling Soviet masses: the progressive income tax.

42 I am Joe...

I am your neighbor that lives across the street
I am a hockey mom, or the coach of your son's Little League team
I serve our country in uniform, leaving my family behind to protect our freedoms
I am a police officer, fireman or paramedic, putting my life on the line to protect you
I work at the local hospital, caring for your family in times of need
I am the builder, plumber, shopkeeper or the owner of the small store down the street
I am the cowboy and farmer, providing food for not just your table but for those around the world
I am the teacher who gives long hours to educating your children
I am the veteran that answered my nation's call to duty
I am the stranger that comes to your aid when disaster strikes, and you need a hand
I work hard to provide for my family, pay my taxes and do my duty as a citizen and vote
I am proud of what my country stands for, and all of the good it does throughout the world
I want to be successful, to enjoy the freedoms granted to me and to give to others in need on my own accord, not have it taken from me

I am Joe the Plumber

43 So, now a candidate making reference to a particular citizen automatically removes that citizen's right to privacy and is an invitation into digging into their personal life?

A citizen asked a legitimate question.
The answer he received was ludicrous and spoke volumes about the answerer.
Citizen questioner is referenced in public forums.
Subsequently, citizen's name and life are dragged through the mud by the media in an attempt to discredit --- what? The question? No, in an attempt to shield the idiotic answer from public consumption.

Yeah, I can definitely see where it's McCain's fault.

Yes, anyone with a superficial understanding of either plan may come to that conclusion.

We already have the earned income credit which means that most people who are lower middle class or lower not only end up with no taxable income and no tax liability but a "refundable credit " which amounts to a subsidy or a transfer of wealth , or welfare if you want to think of it that way. If you are actually  poor you don't pay taxes and have not in a long time.
