| An Army of JoesAnger at a McCain rally. Aimed not at Obama, at the press. York approached Tito Munoz, a small construction business owner, who was complaining about the press treatment of Joe. Tito assumed York was just another reporter there to give him the "business".“Yeah, I have my papers right here,” he said. “I’m an American citizen. Right here, right here.” With that, he produced a U.S. passport, turned it to the page with his picture on it, and thrust it about an inch from my nose. “Right here,” he said. “In your face.” Munoz said he owned a small construction business. “I have a license, if you guys want to check,” he said. Someone asked why Munoz had come to the rally. “I support McCain, but I’ve come to face you guys because I’m disgusted with you guys,” he said. “Why the hell are you going after Joe the Plumber? Joe the Plumber has an idea. He has a future. He wants to be something else. Why is that wrong? Everything is possible in America. I made it. Joe the Plumber could make it even better than me. . . . I was born in Colombia, but I was made in the U.S.A.”Mother Jones tool David Corn thought this would be a good time to defend the press coverage, including the brilliant suggestion to a black woman that she is better than Joe because she pays her taxes. Good move Dave. It's been said many times (so I'll say it again, cause I'm just a moron), most Americans are fair-minded people. They know when someone who doesn't deserve it is viciously attacked by a media bent on defending The Precious from his own big dumb mouth. And they don't like it a lot. “I am Joe the Plumber!” Munoz chimed in. “You’re attacking me.”Yes, they are. And they're being called on it too. Comments1
My comment was eaten on some other thread. Cut and paste it again: Quick optimistic update from my BBQ last Saturday. Joe the plumber was the main political topic (football was the dominate topic) followed by polls and how Obama is gonna win. Most of the Obama supporters (except one) were in full attack mode against Joe….until some of the neutrals shut that down by strongly defending Joe against the attacks (with info I dunno where they are getting unless the net is more effective then I think like Joes does not need a license, he has been working for 6 years, he didn’t ask for this he was playing football when Obama stopped him, etc.) and even then attacking Obama for ‘letting that happen.’ I even had the opportunity to use a (mangled) Treacher’s line, “Vhere are your Papers!” at one point which drew a nice nervous laugh from the neutrals—and furious looks from an Ozombie. Not that he will read this but thanks Treacher for jotting that one out. In general, people were unhappy about Joes fate. Later, I was talking to just a group of O supports. During that time, the one Obama supporter who did not join in the political discussions at all later announced that he didn’t know who he was supporting because of what was happened to Joe. Not that he was going to vote for McCain but maybe he ‘just wouldn’t vote for anyone’ at the presidential level. After hearing that, the look of shock and horror on the other O supporter’s faces was priceless. Mind you, I almost did a spit take after hearing someone publicly say that they were no longer supporting Obama. So, it seems like the race is close to me

I've commented before that I think McCain would benefit by making a good commercial that shows all the things the press ISN'T covering. It'd be a double-whammy as he'd get a nice slam at the press, as well as being able to show damaging footage from Obama.
I truly believe that folks would have a visceral reaction to being duped. Posted by: Oedipus at October 20, 2008 10:00 AM (5Djkl) 4
“Wait a second,” Corn said. “Do you pay your taxes?”
“Yes, I pay my taxes,” the woman said. “Then you’re better than Joe the Plumber,” Corn said. That set off a general free-for-all. “I’m going to tell you something,” Munoz yelled at Corn. “I’m better than Obama. Why? Because I’m not associated with terrorists!” Thank God for Tito the Construction Worker. David Corn can go to hell. Posted by: DM! at October 20, 2008 10:03 AM (MzLox) 5

McCain's words on this are very, very good and get to the heart of a lot of other issues:
"McCain added that Obama’s response to Wurzelbacher — the assertion that it would be best to "spread the wealth around" — made Joe the Plumber "the only person to get a real answer out of Sen. Obama."" Posted by: someone at October 20, 2008 10:08 AM (nO8K/) 8
From a rhetorical standpoint, the Joe the Plumber incident is an incredible gift for our side. We win on both halves of the equation. We win by emphasizing what Obama said in his unguarded moment (and there will be zero unguarded moments from here on out) -- he encapsulated his socialist worldview in a way that would NEVER stick to him if McCain or anyone else said it. We win by allowing the American people to watch the media and liberals absolutely devour an average citizen who by all rights should not even be mentioned any longer. He asked his question, Obama answered. He's giving us all a preview of the Obama Administration and what happens to dissenters. Posted by: Brewdog at October 20, 2008 10:09 AM (jg+Fr) 9

BTW, the race is close. Very close. Obama may win, but that's only going to tighten the race to win in the arena of ideas. Obama wins, and governs anything like we suspect he is going to, and Democrats lose the house in 2012, and lose ground in the Senate, if not control. And that's if Republicans don't nationalize the mid-terms. If Republican's nationalize the 2012 elections, then Betty, bar the door. I can identify with Tito Munoz. There are two kinds of people who come to America. First group are those that believe in America, and want a piece of the American dream. These are the people who wait in lines to get legal papers, come here, work their asses off, pay their taxes, and wait year after year for that magic key called Green Card, while the INS caters to the illegals.
Then there are those who don't have any love for America at all. They are here to make a buck. They come here illegally, don't mind if they have to commit crimes to make that buck, exploit all civic services but have no respect for the taxpayer that funds the civic institution. They are the ones who angrily demand amnesty, and call Americans racist for not handing it to them unconditionally. Posted by: Tushar at October 20, 2008 10:24 AM (PTWes) 24

I was thinking about the vetting the media site - perhaps make it like Snopes for reference. I dont trust Wikipedia to allow much in the way of showing up the media jerks, but Snopes is very respected as a means of counteracting some viral rumor that gets passed around from time to time. If a site vetting the media treats the information that it obtains the same way as Snopes, it could be very useful.

Sue, immigrants from socialist countries are often those most aware of the evils of Marxism, and most appreciative of free capitalist society & the opportunities it provides. I'd say we have more of a problem due to bad education (soft Marxist, pro-socialist, anti-capitalist PC, distorted sense of history & economics) in our own schools.

I love that Tito brought his papers because he knew damn well that Our Glorious Fifth Estate would make it an issue if he didn't.
Also, it's wicked easy to get a tax lien smacked against you. I managed to screw up my taxes two years running (dude, I never said that I could do math) and, if I owned a house, there would be a lien right now, even though I paid the back taxes, with the lovely interest and fees, within about 6 weeks of being notified about the problem. The IRS gets to lien first and ask questions later. So if you're fighting with the IRS about how much you owe, that lien is going to show up if you don't pay immediately. There's also the issue that once it's paid, the IRS isn't in all that much of a hurry to make sure that it's taken off. Not to mention that if the Ohio register of deeds office is anything like the ones here, well, it's a miracle that they knew where Joe's house was in the first place. That's why the tax lien thing isn't a huge issue to me. But, hey, since Our New Media Overlords claim it's a huge thing, then the guy on Obama's staff with them is totally fair game. Crap, I don't have a radio at work, I'd love to hear Rush smack people around with this today. No, I can't stream it, that creates network issues here and since I'd have to fix it, it's not worth the bother. Posted by: alexthechick at October 20, 2008 10:50 AM (SHHaV) 43

My 2 cents worth - I came from a Muslim country where socialism with a twist is practiced. With a twist because the non-Muslims never get to hold high positions and are taxed higher so that their wealth can be re-distributed to the Muslims. In other words, if you are not born into wealth or connected and you are not a Muslim, you will never get anywhere in life. I came to the USA with 2 suitcases and $100.00 in my wallet and God bless this country because 10 years later, I have a very comfortable life, everything I have ever wanted. There is no country on earth like America and she is truly welcoming to anyone who has a dream and is willing to work hard to make them a reality. I pray that Americans will realize this and not decide to walk the failed path of socialism.

“Let me talk,” Munoz said to Corn. “I know the Constitution, and I know my First Amendment — ” “I’m not the state,” Corn said. “I can’t take that right away from you.” “No, no,” Munoz shot back. “Even the state, the state cannot take that right away.” “Right, right,” Corn quickly agreed. Working class Obama supporters are so vested in Team O they can't see beyond the political divide - The fact that Joe was viciously attacked by the media for simply stating a personal belief escapes them.
Its all about getting their guy to the goal line and it matters not who gets run over on the way to the win. I know an Irish Catholic family with two plumbers ( brothers both licensed) and one sister works as an accountant for a general contractor - all of them are Obama supporters and none of them felt any remorse at what the media did to Joe. After writing this nasty little turd of a column on Joe the Plumber last week, SFGate (SF Chronicle) political reporter Carla Marinucci wrote a blog entry this morning, criticizing Sarah Palin for not holding a press conference and stating that politicians should "make themselves accessible to questions."
That was just too fucking rich. The comment I left (with minor mistype corrected here): Maybe the problem is that Ms. Palin hasn't completely vetted the background and credentials of people who would ask her questions at a press conference. I mean, given your (both the media in general and you specifically, Carla) treatment of "Joe the Plumber" last week, apparently that's the standard now, isn't that right? The politician's answers aren't that important, but we do need to know everything about anyone asking questions of them so that we can determine whether those are valid or not. I imagine Governor Palin will be happy to hold a press conference just as soon as every reporter fully discloses what their real first name is; whether they've ever lived in Arizona, Alaska, Chicago or Hawaii; whether they have any outstanding tax liabilities; whether they've ever used drugs; whether they've ever had an extramarital affair or an abortion; and whether their teenage children are sexually active. Only then can we evaluate their questions while ignoring her answers to them. Or is that only the rule for people who ask tough questions for Barack Obama?? Also, that Rasmussen data is just depressing. I've been trying to inoculate my kids against their eventual hardcore communist brainwashing in college by explaining it to them young. The problem is that on it's face, it sort of sounds nice: "No one lives in poverty. We just take a little from the rich (who can spare it) and give it to people who don't have enough. It makes perfect sense!" They don't even get to the next steps, which are 1) the people you give it to waste it, so you have to keep taking more each time; and 2) eventually you destroy all incentives for wealth creation. We need to face it that most people just don't give a shit, and think that things will keep trucking along nicely like they always have been since they were kids. They have no conception that the wrong people in government enacting the wrong rules and laws can wreck this country. Posted by: mr.frakypants at October 20, 2008 11:09 AM (PonvG) 54

I went to the Woodbridge rally. It was only announced on Wednesday, so we made quick plans to attend. Gates open at 1, started at 2. We arrived at 1:30, only to wait on a line that was easily a mile long, and we waited over an hour to get in the gate. It was nearly 3 when we got in, and the end of the line behind us was out of sight. We couldn't get anywhere near the seating area, we ended up in a crowd on an upper courtyard. I never saw the stage, or even McCains face. But we had a good time and he gave a good speech. Joe the Plumber was on everyones mind, people were carrying plungers and signs everywhere about him. He clearly has struck a nerve among conservatives. I have been looking since Saturday for some sort of estimate of the crowd size, but have not seen it. But the bottom line, even here in Democrat dominated Northern Virginia, a few days notice brings out tens of thousands of McCain supporters at the least. Until Saturday I felt like there were very few McCain supporters around me. Now I know that most of the cars without Obama stickers are probably McCain supporters. We just don't want our cars keyed! Here is the photo of Corn and Tito. In it, there is a man with a press badge filming with what appears to be a video camera to Corn's right. The man on Corn's left is filming with a Flip USB video camera.
The microphone says IFC News. The only IFC I could think of was the Independent Film Channel, and oddly enough that is who IFC News is. Of course this story does not appear on their site. Posted by: DM! at October 20, 2008 11:29 AM (MzLox) 68

Only citizens like Munoz are calling the press on their bigotry to their face. "From afar" (as Glen Johnson put it about Palin/SNL), the right wing blogs and radio personalities are calling the press on their LACK OF INTEGRITY and refusal to give equal coverage to conservatives. Sean Hannity points out the sad reality that 2008 marks the official death of the free American press. Pelosi Inc. will cinch the official death of our First Amendment Rights. 58 I think I have mentioned it before, but I will again. The Left of today does what it does because 30 years of PC BS makes it impossible for boys to fight. Almost every single one of these sanctimonious a-holes could stand a good ass kicking. It is obvious to me that they have never taken a punch. I'm 43. When I was young, if someone popped off, he got his ass kicked or at least got into a scrap. Today, no such thing occurs. Leftist pussies can pop off without fear of a deserved beating. Hell, half of today's parents don't even discipline their kids when they pop off.
I have to disagree with this notion. Bullying someone because you oppose of their views is fascist. We need to win the battle of ideas by making more convincing arguments, not by brutality. We are criticizing the Obamaites for being repressive and trying to stifle debate . What you are saying is hypocritical.

Fresh email from the McCain Campaign:
How are you "Joe the Plumber"? Tell us in 30 seconds... We want you to tell us how you are "Joe the Plumber" and why you're supporting John McCain and Sarah Palin in thirty seconds. You could even see your video as an official McCain TV ad. By now, "Joe the Plumber" is a household name and has become a symbol of Barack Obama's plan to "spread the wealth around." During a recent campaign event in Toledo, Ohio, "Joe the Plumber" asked a simple question and got a surprising answer from the Democratic nominee. When he asked why Barack Obama's tax plan was going to punish him for working hard and living the American Dream, Barack Obama responded, "When you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody." In that brief exchange, the American people got to see what this campaign is all about ... a choice between honoring the hard work of everyday Americans like "Joe the Plumber" and increasing taxes to "spread the wealth." In these tough economic times, there is no doubt that John McCain and Sarah Palin stand firmly on the side of hardworking "everyday Joes" who understand the value of honest work and the American Dream. That's why we want to hear from you and share your story with the American public. It's simple ... make an ad telling us why you are "Joe the Plumber" in 30 seconds and we'll put the best ad on the air as a TV ad. Share your story of living the American Dream, working hard, or owning a small business to tell America why you're standing with John McCain and Sarah Palin. Click here today to learn more and submit your video before Friday, October 24th. Then help us spread the word about this exciting opportunity - tell your friends to visit JohnMcCain.com/Joe to submit their own video and share their story. IC, have you considered contacting one of the local Republican offices? The problem with IC's story, despite that it's true (and there are even scarier stories from, say, Christian Copts out of Egypt), Republicans don't want to hear about Muslim mistreatment of people they dismiss as dhimmi. Republicans have known about Odinga for years, for instance. Why they haven't run stories about Odinga's massacres about Kikuyu - who are genetically the same as American blacks - in black radio markets is puzzling to me. Obama isn't one of them; in fact, he has abetted the death and subjugation of more blacks than Wallace and Connor combined. Posted by: David Ross at October 20, 2008 12:38 PM (GwV+j) 97

David Ross (#96) - That is a great suggestion and I will do that. I live in Southern California where Obama stickers are everywhere! However, from our balcony we have a HUGE McCain 2008 banner up and McCain-Palin stickers on our car (the first one I had on my jeep was torn off but I just keep putting them back on). Our Obama supporting neighbor tried complaining about the McCain banner to the HOA, but they just told him to live with it as home owners are allowed to put up whatever they want on their balconies! Hah!

GOTHAM-TO-OHIO VOTE SCAM EYED Comment By JEANE MacINTOSH Last updated: 10:07 am Four well-heeled New York Democrats are under investigation by an Ohio prosecutor for setting up a temporary home in the swing state - where two have already cast their ballots - just so that their votes will be counted there, The Post has learned. The targets of the probe - including the daughter and son-in-law of a New York City real-estate titan, a former New York Sun reporter and a Bank of New York Mellon executive - are connected to Vote From Home, a Manhattan-based political action committee set up to get voters to the polls in Ohio, where residents are allowed to cast ballots 29 days before Election Day, investigators said. MamaAJ: "Meanwhile, which candidate moved minorities and put white women behind him at some campaign events"
Yeah, I've been noting the stagecraft, too. Over the weekend, I saw (on cable) Obama at a rally where the front row behind Senator Government was populated by 45-ish year old white, generally husky, men. Behind them were mostly white women and a few women of color. It was in the main "made for TV" snippet that Obama was mocking Joe the Plumber. So, while the authentic Joe the Plumber is to be mocked, Team Obama is constructing its own "Joebama the Plumber" to try and grab the narrative. Seems a rather odd way to discredit a man when you turn around and use tinkertoys to recreate the same man. And by odd, I mean wholly disingenuos and typical of Obama. Like Sarahcuda, Joe the Plumber has struck yet another chord with the American electorate, one that cannot be manufactured by astroturfing, Axelrod, and Obama. Joe was a HUGE gift to the election. Only he was able to pierce Obama's economic facade, something hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of man hours couldn't do. Two unguarded minutes and a handful of words. Amazing. Obama doomed himself. I don't think even the MSM (aka Obama's plumbers) can bail him out of this one. Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at October 20, 2008 01:08 PM (sI5Ho) 106

I love it! At every rally, conservatives need to, as Obama put it, get in their (the media's) faces.
Time for some press vetting. Ask them why they have dug up more into Joe the Plumber's past than they have Obama's. And record it for posting on YouTube. Let's make every press event a hostile environment for the press. Let's make THEM start answering questions. Posted by: Warden at October 20, 2008 01:30 PM (/RW+O) 111
First a small bit of good news. When I was talking with a friend who is a staunch B.O. supporter over the weekend, she let it slip that she believed that B.O. would lose this election (she was very sincere and very sad). I thanked her for her candor. What I am saying is, simply ask an Obama supporter in a non-confrontational way who they really think will win this election. You may be very surprised at what they think. Also, what is it with this nonsense about "Catholics" supporting B.O. I AM FED UP with Cafeteria Catholics who defacto support late term abortion (or any other kind of abortion/murder) by voting for B.O. They can say they are Catholic till the cows come home, but they really are not. If they are confused at all, they should consult their parish priest and he will be happy to counsel them in this matter. Posted by: sirsurfalot at October 20, 2008 01:34 PM (Czvjx) 112

At some point the owners of the MSM may decide that this is getting too embarassing a situation to be a part of as abetting agents.
Attempt at massive voter fraud by Obama's allies, ACORN. High-grade if blatant dissembling from Obama. His work with Ayers: $150 mil. spent on groups (not schools) with no education gain - surely, " follow the money" His endorsement of various crooked politicians. Frank Marshall (nm?), Rezko,Wright, Mansouri (?) Community organising and Alinsky etc. Still no real curiosity from the MSM. This is all dismissed as transparent attempts at character assasination. What is Obama's relationship with Ayers, Wright and Marshall? How close in valence is he with any of them? Maybe he spends a lot of time non-confrontationally challenging their violent, racist and communist notions, respectively. I know that the MSM suddenly reversing directions and turning its critical attention on Obama might appear shameless and brazen, but these guys are pros and have been handling that kind of pressure well for some time. Born in Colombia made in the USA, on target-fire for effect!!! The arrogance of the media towards those of us who wear the blue collar has always been astounding, yet now the mask is slipping off, we can see our enemies true nature. We make this nation great-we build the infrastructure, run the farms, and do all of the millions of tasks that need to be done to keep this nation great. The media, to steal a line from Churchill "is nothing but the scum floating on top of a molten river of production" We, the Joe's, Tino's Connies Bobs etc are and always will be America. Every fifty years we build this nation, tear it down and build it again. The greatness lies within us.

I'm a electrician hoping to own my own bussines one day like Joe. So the tax break will help me in that matter. Like Joe i need a license first and 50,000 in capital to take the test for a state lincense. So a tax increase on those making more than 250,000 will not harm my bussiness " once I get 1" being a small bussiness owner. Next voter fraud is wrong period, no matter what party . It under scores our nation as a whole. Now trying to say a senator is a terrorist is just out right fraudelent. Dirty politics we are all use to, but lets keep it to a reality.
