Is it Palin on "SNL"?

'Cause I missed it.

And by missed it, I mean "I haven't watched an episode of 'Saturday Night Live' on Saturday night since Mike Myers and Dana Carvey were still castmembers."

2 Palin should ask, on the stump, what Ayers say in Obama that would cause an unrepentant terrorist to put a young man over the head of a left-wing education program.

Is there any way Craig Venter can genetically, umm, "unfuck the double helix" of those mentals who don't know until the last fucking minute who they're going to vote for?

17 Ace,

BTW, Dr. Quentin Young, "who is a doctor" is an old (b. 1923) Leftist and is quasi-notable in Chicago for his past work on WBEZ, Chicago public radio.

Young lives in Hyde Park, and remarkably, if true as per Wikipedia, he (still?) has a private practice in Hyde Park! Um, yeah, I want an 85 year old doctor, 'cause that's gonna' be real good health care.

Anyway, that Young was at that meeting at the Dohrn/Ayers home in Hyde Park is no surprise. It sounds as if it really was a true "coming out" party for Barack Hussein Obama II in the presence of all of Chicago's best and most powerful Leftists.

Slightly OT

I just saw Joe The Plumber on Huckabee. I got teary eyed when Joe said he was on the computer looking at the garbage that was being spewed about him and the stuff that he saw made him feel small. You would have to watch the interview yourself to really feel it. You wonder if there is any humanity on the part of obama, biden and the rest of the assholes.

Excellent news.  Most importantly, Obama's lead amongst indeps is cut in half.

The post about Kerry's relative positioning at this time in '04 was also heartening.

This election is totally winnable.  It's all about message and delivery from this point.

25 It is more compelling to people without the short attention spans of the MTV generation that needs a lot of quick edits to keep people watching.

Hey, good call!  Someone disagreed with you, so insult them.  Clever.

Here's the facts.  The video goes a full 1:20 before the mention of Obama or picture of Obama.  That means a full 1:20 of 'no reason to watch this random video' unless someone told you to watch it or you were looking to learn more about the weathermen.  That's it's flaw.  Doesn't make it a bad video, it's a good video.  It just needs a hook at the beginning.

27 Sayyid,

I understand what you're getting at, but I doubt we have a chance switching many under-30s away from Obama.

Posted by: Benson at October 19, 2008 02:25 AM (qzcNU)

28 Jim: Has nothing to do with generational attention spans. Successful political pitches have historically been short. Think Tippecanoe, I Like Ike, Nixon's the One, etc.

In fact, any hard-hitting marketing pitch is concise and focused, whether in print, verbal, or visual.

The video is interesting, but it's not compelling, especially for an audience that's not already invested--undecideds aren't. Showing them some connect-the-dots video that lacks a definitive "call to action" ("here's how to order!") isn't worth much. It's three months too late.

And I don't think anyone who's not actively engaged in politics will 'get it' by the time they get bored and move on.

It needs a little "bam!" at the beginning.

And isn't Huckabee the perfect person to present that story?  If Huck can just focus on Joe and his plight, and on what Obama's and Biden's mockery of the man and his dream to become a successful citizen say about their campaign, he could do a ton of good.

and score serious ratings short term and cement an audience long term.  I really hope Huckabee has figured that out.

Posted by: KCLady at October 19, 2008 02:37 AM (a4nO6)

35 In fact, a lot of the "tell the Ayers story" nonsense that has dominated real estate on this blog is pointless. That McCain's team is wasting valuable campaign time telling this story at the bottom of the ninth speaks volumes about the shitty conduct of this campaign's sales team and their clock management.

America wants Joe the Plumber and kitchen-table issues. McCain's response? 1960s domestic terrorism. Marxist charges? It's too late for that card, and the Obama track doesn't match the "piece now" visuals.

I'm going to vote for McCain; he'll probably lose. If he wins, it'll be not because of his campaign, but in spite of it: a pathetic, offbeat shamble managed by a crap marketing team and approved by a honcho with no instinct for the killing blow.

39 kal,

The username tracks to a Digg account listing the owner as a "48 year-old guy from Goshen, IN". Then there's this from RCP:

"I write a pro-Democratic satire piece called Haley Speaks (http://www.youtube.com/user/monigrammedia) and have on several occasions been accused of racism by well-meaning but sensitive readers, so I understand where the Republicans are coming from. But where I differ from Krauthammer's analysis is I in no way feel sorry for the Republicans. First, they have systematically attempted to portray Obama as 'other' 'un-American' 'scary' 'foreign' and they've overblown the guilt by association thing on every occasion. It really shows how squeaky clean Obama is that this is all they can come up with. Second, as difficult as it is to campaign against Obama and not step in the race thing, it's far more difficult for Obama to open his mouth and not offend someone because he's black. The fact that he makes it look so effortless bespeaks a social intelligence beyond anything this country has ever seen. There's an irony that campaigning against Obama is probably these people's first real experience of what minorities experience on a daily basis communicating across cultures. To them, I say, 'deal with it.'"

Posted by: Benson at October 19, 2008 02:44 AM (qzcNU)

40 Railwriter, with all due respect, I think McCain is seizing on this Joe the Plumber thing, big time. McCain basically hit the lottery when Obama chose to talk to that guy. The MSM was not able to quash it in time, and they are basically making a martyr of him in thier attempts to smear him. They can't spin it as a dirty trick, too many people know the story. Obama is not even back-pedaling, he's making it worse by mocking the guy.

And you're right, if McCain wins, it will be because of Obama's unforced error (s)

Posted by: Dr. Remulak at October 19, 2008 02:48 AM (97WY7)

41 Hold on a second. The real name on the Digg account? Michael Sherer. It can't possibly be the Michael Sherer listed on Salon and Time's site as the Washington correspondent. The same one who called Obama "lithe and dashing" here?

What am I getting wrong here?

Posted by: Benson at October 19, 2008 02:48 AM (qzcNU)

42 If someone is interested in the fate of the country and is told that a video is important to watch before you make up your mind it does not need to be flashy.  I thought the premise was "watch this important video before you vote" and not some video that might catch your attention while surfing for pron.

Posted by: Benson at October 19, 2008 02:50 AM (qzcNU)

45 Look, I don't think short attention spans have anything to do with why I was turned off by the first minute. There's just no reason for so much random crap to be there. Shitty stuff happened in the 60s. We all know it. Give ten seconds of it as background. Give a clip of someone saying the weather underground had plotted to bomb the capitol and the pentagon. That's all you need for that part. There's no reason the intro needs to be that long. No one is going to bother to watch through that much of it. After 15 seconds you're wondering what the point is. After 30 you figure the rest of the clip is the same, and close it. I lasted until 60 seconds based on the recommendation it got. Frankly, from anyone but Ace I would have only lasted to 30 or 45 seconds. I don't need to watch random video without audio to know that there were domestic terrorists in the 60s, and that's the impression I got from the intro portion dragging on that long.

Based on comments, I skipped to 1:20, and from then on it had my attention for good. The clip needs to be edited. Just get rid of the first minute of it. Then people will watch it.

Posted by: Sayyid at October 19, 2008 02:50 AM (BDvc1)

46 Slightly OT, but I was talking to an electrician, a builder, and a HVAC man today. I asked them what kind of support for Obama they were seeing on the jobsites, and each one of them said, "None." I asked for clarification, and they were adamant - not one of them knew a tradesman voting for The One. Now, I'm sure somewhere here in MI a tradesman is voting Dem, but by these men's accounts, it's not here in western MI. Joe The Plumber is everywhere.

Don't let your spirits flag. This is going to work out well for the conservatives (or at least better than Obama, if you don't like McCain). Keep calm heads and don't despair. And work to help the cause!

Posted by: Jazz at October 19, 2008 02:52 AM (DNy0k)

47 This is totally on the fly and probably detrimental to the republican cause, but there is not even one shred of evidence that "Joe the Plumber" did not entrust his children with William Ayers as a babysitter.

50 KCLady: Exactly. He should be beating "spread the wealth," just that, like a goddamn gong. Obama's had "hope and change" since the convention. What's McCain's cast? It was "not ready to lead." Now? "Obama has kept company with Bill Ayers, who was a Weatherman back when. Ayers was on the same board with X, and they both gave money to Y..."

We know that Ayers/Marxism/redistribution/cap gains tax are threads in the fabric of "spread the wealth," but the soundbite is: "He wants to take your money. I want you to keep it." That's it. KISS.

It's time-tested. When kept simple, it's worked 7 out of 10 times. Why they're not playing this card is mystifying.

I've probably worn this angle out--sorry for repetition, but it seems so obvious. Gotta hit the sack.

More importantly, though, you want the video good enough that it doesn't need that kind of recommendation to be watched. You want the first minute to grab you, not turn you off. The only way someone who's still undecided is going to watch the video is if the first portion of it is flawless and attention grabbing. I'm trying to offer constructive criticism here.

flanagans expressions when he admits to "smash monogomy," are, not those of a believer, in fact flanagan came out from the underground, because he was a father, and didn't know what they "movement" was doing anymore.

Ayers and Dohrn decided, after Vietnam was over, that THEY were the movement, and thats why they are unrepentent, knowing they can only be brought down, if believers in the vietnam thing, talk, and the statute is not over yet.

Fact is, If the fed is at all serious about it, there is no statute, since they declared war on the US! which is treason.

Is there a statute of limitations for treason?

I don't think so, it's a CONSTITUTIONAL crime and I I don't remember there being statutes, only pardons.

64 I've been a week making up crow sandwiches for all the libs who've been counting their chickens based on the number of eggs the libs see - and for PaRep's favorite pants-shitters. I'm not going to be obnoxious, but I am confident in a Republican win. I think the win will be more sizeable if the base can keep its act together, but it's going to be carried by the people who love this country more than a party. That's huge, because those people come from both major parties and - more importantly - from beyond. It's a bit like believing in God - we have to trust they're there. We get signs if we look. If you see the signs, though, you get some comfort and some knowledge that when judgment day comes, they'll be there dispensing justice. I have no doubt who the bad guy is in this election, and I trust implicitly and without fear that the true patriots of this country will ban Him to the footnotes of history. I worry far more about the health of some of our teammates in this contest than I do about the election's outcome.

"I would have so loved to have not have painted him."

She's mil through and through.

she is someone who DID do something, that she wished should have never been done.

That IS EXACTLY the military mindset.

Not cuz the mil is filled with cowards, but because we want the people we protefect to always feel safe, but we know, at least while in, that we WILL KEEP THEM SAFE cuz we KNOW what we believe in, and THAT is SO IMPORTANT! more important than our lives.

I'm a lunatic, I know you all know that, but you know what makes me a lunatic?

I will die a miserable, and meaningless life, while always staring on in envy for the people who are allowed to serve.

I fucked up, and That doesn't tarnish my resume, that DESTROY's the very thing I wanted to be.

I joked, as a CHILD!  "I will be a captain when I'm your age, or a glorious death."

Thats no shit!  I said that to my brother.

I'm neither, and now, I'm just one more civvie piece of shit, why you think I'm a lunatic?

Ayers is not a lost cause, it's the whole reason Obama is worth a fuck.  Not Ayers, actually.  Dohrn.

When Annenberg was coming up with his $500 mil challenge, he talked to Newton Minow, senior counsel of Sidley & Austin, chairman of the Carnegie Corporation (1993–1997), Annenberg Professor of Communications Law and Policy at Northwestern University (1987–2003) and director of its Annenberg Washington Program (1987–1996).

Who was interning for Sidley & Austin?  Why Barack Obama, of course.  You know who were regular employees? One Michelle Robinson (Obama) and one Bernadine Dohrn.  It just so happens that the authors of the winning grant proposal for the Chicago Annenberg Grant were: William Ayers, Anner Hallet, and Warren Chapman.

Does anyone else find it a little shady that members of the law firm consulted by Annenberg just happened to have spouses that wrote winning grant proposals? And that one of the final board members was Susan Blankenbaker Noyes, former labor attorney at Sidley & Austin; daughter of Republican former Indiana state senator Virginia Murphy Blankenbaker; goddaughter of Patricia Albjerg Graham?  Patricia Albjerg Graham just happened to be the woman who agreed to be the vice chairman if Barack Obama accepted the chairmanship.

Obama is corrected more closely with Dohrn, which is why the Ayers thing is not quite panning out as it should.  True, they are married, but Dohrn was far more radical than Ayers.  The SDS birthed two movements - the Revolutionary Youth Movement 2 (Klonsky) and the Revolutionary Youth Movement 1 (Ayers, Dohrn, and the other Weathermen).  Dohrn is FAR more radical than her beta male counterpart Ayers.

Bernadine Dohrn said, "Dig it! First they killed those pigs and then they put a fork in their bellies. Wild!" concerning the Tate-Bianca murders.  Go read her Wiki article.  She's the real link into Barack Obama.

79 Once again, why is it the press can find out everything about JtP, but NO ONE has stuck a microphone in Ayers face.

What the media is doing this elections cycle is nothing short of criminal, can they be sued for their journalistic malpractice which might cost this country dearly? After all, they have special protections as the 4th state for their supposed role as watchdogs.

ARE YOU SERIOUSLY SCARED OF AN OBAMA PRESIDENCY?

THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

"EVIL PREVAILS WHEN GOOD MEN DO NOTHING!!"…Edmund Burke

Obama Must Be Stopped. But the McCain Campaign's not going to do it.

It's really up to the people to step up to the plate, and influence a few votes!

McCain Can Still Win!   But there has to be an organized plan among his supporters, in addition to the McCain campaign,

Check out this website. It's an easy way we can all make a difference in this election.

Maybe slightly off topic here but I can't get past being so aggrevated for poor Joe! The man just asked a question for gosh sakes!

So I have a question too  -- why do all these folks who believe in unfair distribution of wealth manage to have so much money sharing between themselves going on that instead of sharing with others, they all just make sure they live in such a wonderful neighborhood? Like are they afraid to live with those poor folks they want to help with everyone elses money? When did these 'friends' all start buying their houses exactly? Why did they choose this neighborhood? Why don't they live in one of the inner city neighborhoods and sponser homestead housing for folks in downtown bad neighborhoods? Give a house to some poor family if they guarantee living in it and rehabilitating it instead of leaving it abandoned to the city? So who wouldn't be willing then to want one of those houses if it meant they lived next to Michelle and Bernandine? How many 'dirty hands on' projects do Michelle and Bernadine actually volunteer for - how many did they ever volunteer for? Why don't their kids attend schools within the inner city public school system  they believe in instead of the 'nicer' schools? There are plenty of photos of Cindy in less than glamorous outfits working her charity missions over the years -- where are similar photos of Michelle? Maybe she would have been more proud of Americans if she ever got her designer clothes dirty working 'in the trenches' with some of them? Billing one's self a community organizer or working for the betterment of people is not only about walking city streets or writing a thesis about feeling out of place as a black person -- it is living what one speaks about - doing the right thing on a daily basis -- like for instance, the bible verse referring to it is of no good to solely praying for the one without a coat, but that you should give them your extra coat. What good is it to tell me to share my income with others if you lock yourselves in a special neighborhood separated from those poor folk you are so worried about? It sure is easy to tell me how wrong I am while you live the good life separated from all those folks you tell me to take care of? I know none of  this helps McCain win -- it just irritates me how self-righteous Obamabots get with the rest of blue collar America while they enjoy not sharing their money!   I've mentioned before that I am not wealthy - will never see the $250 mark --- but as a family when we were needing help, we still always managed to find a way to help others. We fed families in our home on a daily basis, we cleaned homes of folks who didn't have a clue why a clean (sanitary) home makea difference, we paid electric or water bills for someone else without looking for a fanfare. These were done even when we were so broke - and not just as part of a publicity stunt.

I just want some truth in reporting -- and some truth in dollars and cents/sense here -- throwing government money is NOT the answer to helping each other - teach the man to fish, not just hand him one -- invite a few homeless folks to use one of your spare bedrooms Michelle and then I might believe you are a better American - don't tell me you want to share the wealth while you live in a spearate world yourself.

It is always interesting to see how the other side lives.  I'm looking forward to an Obama presidency, though frankly I think he'll have a hard time doing much with the complete mess left by the worst president we've ever had.... G.W. Bush.  I'm glad that the kind of innuendo/ guilt-by-association-campaign that some folks seem to think appropriate has a hard time getting by in even the conservative dominated (NOT the reverse as you would have us believe) MSM.  I think Colin Powell's strong endorsement of Obama is just about the end of the road for McCain's chances.  It took 8 years of insanity and complete idiocy to wake America up, but thankfully, enough people seem to understand reality now.

And it'll be great to have a president who can actually speak above a 3rd grade level again!!
