Kos: We Must Crush Their Spirits

I've been making the case the last couple of weeks that we can't just focus on winning in November, but that we have an imperative to take advantage of a historic opportunity to break the conservative movement's backs and crush their spirits. In the White House, that means getting Obama a broad popular and geographic mandate for change. In the House, that means annihilating the Republican caucus and working toward a 100-seat Democratic majority. In the Senate it means getting to a 60-seat filibuster proof majority.

Republicans will claim that McCain wasn't one of them, hence rationalizing away their loss. But if we decimate their ranks, including their conservative icons, it'll make it harder for them to justify their spin. Remember, we want them broken, their ranks thinned, their treasury in heavy debt, their morale in the gutter, void of any leadership, discredited in the eyes of the public.

Hence our need this year to take advantage of this perfect Democratic storm to not just win, but to utterly wipe the board clear of as many Republicans as we can catch in this wave.

A key component of this effort is to destroy their most beloved leaders. And in that sense, our Orange to Blue fundraising list targets some of the conservative movement's top leaders. Don't take my word for it, take that of conservative blogger/operative Patrick Ruffini, freaking out about the tsunami about to hit:

And while we all to some extent will continue to fixate on the Presidential race, we need to understand the very real consequences if the Senate is irredeemably lost, and if our bench in the House is wiped out. You may not know it, but conservative icons like John Shadegg (AZ-3) and Tom McClintock (CA-4) could lose.

Both AZ-03 and CA-04 are on our target list, with Bob Lord focused on taking out Shadegg, and Charlie Brown fighting McClintock.

There is a sudden realization on the right that they are on the precipice of losing not just their majorities, but some of their most cherished voices. We have been blessed with an opportunity to help that process along.

They're already expecting to lose. You want to see them truly crushed, you need to help (among so many others) Lord and Brown win their races.

Leave everything on the road.

Keep that in mind. Check out the Rightblogs' list of House challengers, donate to the RNC. And everyone vote. Straight ticket, unless you have a really good reason not to.

Fear not, Comrade Kos.  Conservatives may take a much deserved walk in the wilderness.  But much as you communists did, we will regroup and come back better and stronger.

Only when we do it it won't be through voter fraud and lies.

8 Remember, the only reason they won in 2006 was because conservatives didn't turn out to vote. This is a center right country and if we all go out and vote we cannot lose.

10 Well, Kos is going all out now for Obama.  So we have that bit of good news going for us.  He is what 1-16 on supporting candidates?

11 Wow, he gets full of power real quick with an "opportunity" given that Kos as such an impressive tract record before (what, 0 for 19 or so?).  You'd almost think him and his far-left ilk were simply closet-elitists pretending to care for everyman but solely focused on their taste of power!

Never thought I'd donate to the RNC, but it's done now.  If I can do something to keep craven-powermongers like him off the levels of power, I've got to.

That said... he's fucking batty.  Break the conservative movement's back?  Does he really think he (or the retards he supports) can manage that?  If Obama wins, he has the stench of Jimmy Carter all over him.  Besides, for all the times I hoped liberalism had its back snapped, it bounced back.  Even the potential election of Dear Leader can prevent the ebbs and flows of politics.  Kos would know that, if he wasn't hyper-partisan busch-league hack material.

28 “Ronald Reagan led a political revolution in 1980 against decades of Keynesian nonsense and cultural rot — and then saw his party lose congressional seats in 1982. Bill Clinton led a Democratic takeover of Washington in 1992, which lasted two years. Bush and the GOP won full control in 2004, which lasted two years. In modern times, American political power has had a quicksilver quality. Does that mean that the upcoming election isn’t important? Hardly! But it won’t be the last word on the future of our Republic. No single election ever is.”

It's all true, I'm afraid. Although I am wondering who they think is blessing them. Gaia, I suppose?

Is there any doubt that these people truly hate you and everything you stand for? Do you now understand how important to support Conservative voices on the airwaves, (yes, even the ones that you only agree with 90% of the time, such as O'Reilly), and full support of our Congress critters when Dems try to saddle them with manufactured or blown-out-of-proportion scandals?

I need to remind you that we look like fucking fools for shitcanning Tom Delay, Newt Gingrich, and Mark Foley, just to name a few examples. On the other hand, we need to send a clear message to Boehner and McConnell that their lack of Conservative leadership will not be tolerated. Let's rebuild the GOP on our terms, not dismantle it on the Democrat's terms.

33 McCain has to come out swinging tonight.  I know all the polls will show him to be angry but he should embrace that.

He should say at the very beginning "I know I am going to appear angry tonight.  It's because I am.  I'm angry because we are 21 days from the election and the media still has not taken a substantial look at my opponents record either in the Senate, where he served only 145 before beginning his run for president, in his associations with unrepentant terrorists such as Bill Ayers, his twenty year association with an Anti-American, Anti-Semitic pastor, or his association with an organization that has previously engaged in voter registration fraud and is now being investigated in 12 states for such actions again.  Time and again the media has had an opportunity to rasie and pursue these questions and time and again they have failed.

36 I have been reading a lot about Corregidor and Bataan lately. Almost up to the end, the soldiers, despite their lack of supplies and air superiority, were fighting hard enough that they believed they could hold on and -- if not win -- stave off defeat if they could get just one convoy of ammo, food and medicine.

The convoy, of course, never arrived.

We are much in the same position. We are facing total defeat, and maybe, just maybe, we can get that last infusion we need to hold it off.

But we need to be thinking about the alternative. Conservatives need to start thinking about going guerrilla. We need to be thinking about how to prevent our occupiers* from being able to function and execute their agenda.

Think of the total ineffectiveness of the Republican Congress during the years the Dems held a lock on the Capitol. No one wants that again.

I'm brainstorming here, so here are just a few ideas I have for effective guerrilla disruption of the Obama Regime.

* Private RICO suits brought against ACORN wherever possible.

* Estate taxes are coming back. Dodge those by endowing university chairs that have a specific mission to further conservative interpretations of history, law, and economics.

* Join the NRA.

* Disrupt communications. Sign up every single dem party leader and academic for every single spam mailing list, magazine subscription, etc., that you can.

* Join all of these local boards that get flooded with academics and liberals, like the mayor's commission on human rights, or the local arts council, or the local transit board, etc., etc.

Those are my idea off the top of my head. Who else?

39 Billybob says McCain wins in a "landslide."

Bush didn't beat Kerry in a landslide, so which Kerry state is McCain going to take?

You do understand that all Obama needs are the Kerry states plus 18 additional electoral votes.  So he only needs to add:

Ohio
or Florida
or Virginia plus New Mexico or Nevada
or Iowa plus Colorado
or Missouri plus West Virginia.

And currently, Obama is leading in all of these states.

Not guaranteeing an Obama victory, mind you, but a landslide?  Really?

McClintock is running for Congress from a district in northeast California, a strongly conservative area.  Looks like he's ahead but his opponentis getting big bucks from the DNC and Pelosi.

He's termed out in the state legislature.  He ran in the recall election in 2001 but got beat by Arnold.  He later tried for state controller (or treasurer?) and just barely lost to the Democrat.

If he wins his current race, California's loss will be the country's gain.

Go ahead, get cocky about crushing our spirits, Kos Kids - especially if Obama wins.  You have no idea what's coming.

THOSE who solely by good fortune become princes from being private citizens have little trouble in rising, but much in keeping atop; they have not any difficulties on the way up, because they fly, but they have many when they reach the summit.

And it ought to be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things. Because the innovator has for enemies all those who have done well under the old conditions, and lukewarm defenders in those who may do well under the new. This coolness arises partly from fear of the opponents, who have the laws on their side, and partly from the incredulity of men, who do not readily believe in new things until they have had a long experience of them. Thus it happens that whenever those who are hostile have the opportunity to attack they do it like partisans, whilst the others defend lukewarmly, in such wise that the prince is endangered along with them.

Wish my candidate, Tom Manion, had made that Rightblog list.  He's a lot more conservative than Melissa Hart.

www.manion08.com

He has one of the best ads I've seen this cycle, nailing incumbent Pelosi-buttwiper Patrick Murphy for taking campaign money from Charlie Rangel and then voting for a $2 million earmark for Rangel's library.  In a debate on Sunday, he had the audience cheering when he called out Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for sitting on their asses while Fannie and Freddie tanked.

Murphy only won by 1500 votes in 2006, and that was a huge turnout year for Dems in PA.  Murphy endorsed Obama but Clinton won the district handily and the PUMAs around here are all backing McCain and Manion.

Republicans could conceivably really shock the Kos crowd here in PA.

As much as I hate the Kossacks, I admire their go-for-the-jugular approach. I think that's what's missing in the conservative movement and certainly in our less than desirable candidate. I can't help but wonder if we had some ball-crushing candidates who didn't mind getting their hands dirty if we wouldn't be up by 5 or more points now. You play the game to win and use everything in your arsenal. It's how we won WWII. We dropped the bomb on Japan to break the will of the people no matter how many died as a consequence. The Left has been practicing this for years and it's about time conservatives fight the same way.

54 The result Kos posits is possible.  We have to admit that.  What we also have to admit is that it will not be the end of the world.  America has a short memory, so every few generations, it seems, America has to have its flirtation with some form of socialism (see Woodrow Wilson and FDR).  The pendulum always swings back, and sometimes it swings back hard.

I do not want to see a President Obama with a deep blue majority in the House and a filibuster proof majority in the Senate - that combination is likely to lead to a dramatic decrease in our liberties and our economic well-being (but I repeat myself) that will last for a very long time.  However, the thing that separates we conservatives from the liberals is that we know with a certainty what the results of their policies will be - failure, and probably painful failure at that.  Socialism has been tried in every conceivable variant, and has always failed miserably (it is failing even in its soft Western European form even as I write this).  Liberals, however, innocent of history, enamored as they are of their own ideas, true believers in the infinite malleability and perfectibilty of human nature, faithful in their view of themselves as smarter and better than the rest of us and, therefore, ordained to engineer society as they see fit, believe experience and natural law are no impediment to whatever schemes they dream up.  But we know that the fundamental things apply as time goes by.

So, the Kossacks and their ilk may be in full control of the levers of power following this election - and, while that will suck (ultimately, for everyone but those in power), it will also mean that they will have to own the debacle that will necessarily ensue.  And we have to make them own it.

Then we will have a chance to try again.  And, when we do, we are going to have to purge the Lincoln Chaffees, the Arlen Spectorses, the Ted Stevenses and, yes, the George W. Bush "compassionate conservatives" and return the Republican Party to the party of limited government, fiscal restraint and economic liberty it used to be.

Clenching our jaws and voting a straight Rep line is good in theory, but when you've got a hose-head like we have in Oregon, Gordon Smith by name, it's pretty damn hard to vote for him.  He is just about as RINO as you can get, bailing on the war publically in '07, campaigning hard here on how much he has worked with Obama to get liberal projects done, and also being a no-show in the illegal immigration issue.  I will not vote for the Dem, but Smith won't be getting my vote either.  What's the point, if he bails on the important issues?  Why have the Republican brand associated with a policy that is anathema to Republicans?

Someone tell me why I should vote for Gordon Smith.  I am willing to be convinced.

They forget that works start on 11/5 for the midterm elections. And two years goes by quick. The bigger the wins for the Dems in '08, the harder they will fall in 2010.

Bout time they blatantly and openly admit their desire to create a one party state."

Can someone make an add with this? all complete with magshots of Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Rangle, et all. and buy enough TV time to have it daily on till election day? This should scare the h*ll out of everyboy, including democrats. Americans do not like government without checks and balances.

70 Straight ticket voting? You've gotta be kidding me.  Folks, have we forgotten how the GOP congress got here?  Have we forgotten the earmarks? The prescription drug bill?  The farm bill?  Have we forgotten how, in six years of uncontested control, they did NOTHING to secure the borders, or prevent this subprime / mortgage / credit / financial / constitutional meltdown?  They lost our confidence, and their majorities, and their moral high ground because they forgot that WE CAN VOTE THEM OUT FOR BETRAYING OUR PRINCIPLES.  If your congresscritters and senators are part of the problem, vote them out and tell them why.  Support worthy candidates because of their ideas and actions, not because of the "R" after their names. I'm in MI, so voting McCain does no good for me.  I'm voting Libertarian to support the idea that there are other, better options for us.

Straight ticket voting, my achin' ass.

Of course, given how well the Democrats have done since wining a majority of Congress, I don't see how a filibuster proof DNC controlled congress and DNC president are going to be any more effective than what we currently have.

The left works the same way that most banana-republic dictatorships do: Find some external scapegoat and foment as much hatred you can towards them so nobody will take a look at you. For most dictators the scapegoat is the US, that is why so many countries hate us. For the democrats it is the evil corporations, the religious right, the republicans, whatever works.

I know, I was being a little cynical.
The poor souls that keep having faith in government to fix their problems are often doomed to remain in their circumstances and never seem to get it.
I wonder sometimes how severe the penalty, in the final judgment, will be for those (like many democrats) who strive to keep people in this false sense of dependency so they can use them as pawns for their political gains.

Unfortuately, the Democrats, if they do win big, will have a perfect opportunity to put a stake right through the heart of honest elections: the upcoming 2010 census and the congress re-districting that will ensue.  If cheating a la ACORN works for them, why will they not cheat with the census (and all those nice, new citizens they will create) to make themselves the permanent majority?

The sad truth is, this may be the last real election for president in the USA.
