NIE Leak: Pakistan "On the Edge"

President Obama might get his chance to conduct the Great Overmountain Invasion of Pakistan after all.

A growing al Qaida-backed insurgency, combined with the Pakistani army's reluctance to launch an all-out crackdown, political infighting and energy and food shortages are plunging America's key ally in the war on terror deeper into turmoil and violence, says a soon-to-be completed U.S. intelligence assessment.
A U.S. official who participated in drafting the top secret National Intelligence Estimate said it portrays the situation in Pakistan as "very bad." Another official called the draft "very bleak," and said it describes Pakistan as being "on the edge."
The first official summarized the estimate's conclusions about the state of Pakistan as: "no money, no energy, no government."

About the only good news in the Pakistan NIE is that it's "relatively sanguine" about the prospects of a Pakistani nuclear weapon, materials or knowledge falling into the hands of terrorists, said one official.
However, the draft NIE paints a grim picture of the situation in the impoverished, nuclear-armed country of 160 million, according to the U.S. officials who spoke to McClatchy.

Sounds grim, but there's an upside. If Pakistan has a revolution, the first thing they'll take out (or try to) is India. And you know what that means, right?

Think outsourced customer service call centers.

World ends: women, minorities and Dell hit hardest. As for me, it's a fair trade-off instead of waiting on hold for 30 minutes.

Even better than Dell, I hope the first thing Pakistan takes out is the Chubb/Homeguard Security call center. Hell, I'd be happy to provide them logistics if need be.

23 I mentioned this briefly on my blog in August. I don't bother linking since I seldom post, but my prediction seems accurate.

Iraq is over-run by infidels. Al-Qaeda regroups in Afghanistan, also over-run by infidels. Iran is in the cross-hairs. Pakistan is unpoliced and without Musharraf, it's a toss-up for the militant types. There's nowhere else they can go.

For now, I suspect this is an unforeseen consequence of piracy. I can't buy any of the conspiracies ideas. A useful one though. I do believe Pakistan is on the brink.

Also, every nuke they try to lob at India is one less nuke that AQ can load onto a shipping container bound for NYC or some other Western city. India may end up saving our bacon here, simply by acting in their own interests.
