TIP: RICO ACTION TO BE FILED AGAINST ACORN TOMORROW MORNING
NOTE MAJOR WALK-BACK OF ORIGINAL STORY

Major, Tentative Walk-Back: The "US Attorney" part has been deleted from the headline. Not bait and switch; just can't stand by that at the moment.

Damnit. In all likelihood this is not as great as first reported. So yes, I am aware that this is very disappointing. I am disappointed too. I didn't mislead or make a mistake; that was the information I had.

I also can't say for sure the old headline is wrong, but it strongly appears that way at the moment.

I'm really sorry. I can only say again "This is the information I had." Cowbell and flaming skull canceled.

12 Hey you guys! You better not dare mention that Obama has extensive ties to Acorn....because that would be totally racist.  So what if every single organization and person that he has aligned himself with has turned out to be either a terrorist or a hate-monger, and that he probably knew that at the time.  Obama says he's a nice guy, and that's really about as deep as I'm willing to dig.

Now what about that little fucker who knocked up Bristol???  I need 5 reporters following him day and night.  We'll ruin his life yet!

I will tell you however that there's no way in hell Obama is named as part of it.  That's just basic common sense.  he's not actually part of the organization.  This action is going to be controversial enough without trying to link Obama into it directly.

I have no idea if it's statewide or national.  A US Attorney has a wide purview, of course.

27 I gotta Obama connection:

Then, it was a rump confederation of various liberal-leftish activists calling itself the New Party, a name I always liked for its future potential as a quaintly interesting anachronism (after all, we live in 340-year-old "New" York, right?). But by 1997, the New Party had fizzled. Cantor hooked up with some other activists to try again. This time, they put their heads together, and I suppose did some polling, and decided they needed a name that delivered some idea of what they stood for (e.g., living wage, minimum wage, health care for poor people, federal dollars out of Washington). They amassed some institutional -- that is, union -- backing. They became the Working Families Party.

Republicans are attacking Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and his presidential campaign over his new political director who was accused of using felons to get out the vote for the 2004 presidential election in Ohio.

The Obama campaign announced yesterday that Patrick Gaspard will be its new national political director. Gaspard, a New York labor official, was the national field director for America Coming Together during the 2004 cycle. That year the Associated Press reported that ACT under Gaspard paid convicted felons to canvass homes and solicit private information (including Social Security numbers) from voters as part of its GOTV effort. The AP also noted that it is not illegal for felons to canvass, though they are not allowed to vote.

It won't make any difference. The MSM will attack the GOP for a "political", "desperate", and "racially motivated" prosecution. It'll just be more fodder for the smear machine. As for Barry, he'll just say, "ACORN? What's ACORN?" and go on his merry way.

56 Woo-hoo, bringin' in the big guns! Strike 'em all, i say, have all the ACORN "registrations" trashed as 1 job lot, and use the teachable moment to remind Ohioans exactly how their state works. Or is supposed to work, right now. Hold ACORN itself responsible for the "extra" registrations, and remind them that they are liable for ELECTION FRAUD if they don't clean their act up by 11/03. ('Cause 11/04/08 is too late!)

Hmmm... not certain.  Federal crimes generally require interstate action at some point but  they can sometimes finesse this if the crime "affects" interstate commerce.

Not sure if the RICO statute definitely requires interstate crimes... if it did, a Chicago mob operating entirely within the state would be immune.

75 Hmmmm. just state authorities raiding the NV ACORN office, apparently:

Nevada state authorities seized records and computers Tuesday from the Las Vegas office of an organization that tries to get low-income people registered to vote, after fielding complaints of voter fraud.

Bob Walsh, spokesman for the Nevada secretary of state's office, told FOXNews.com the raid was prompted by ongoing complaints about "erroneous" registration information being submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.

The group was submitting the information through a voter sign-up drive known as Project Vote.

"Some of them used nonexistent names, some of them used false addresses and some of them were duplicates of previously filed applications," Walsh said, describing the complaints, which largely came from the registrar in Clark County, Nev.

Secretary of State Ross Miller said the fraudulent registrations included forms for the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys football team.

"Tony Romo is not registered to vote in the state of Nevada, and anybody trying to pose as Terrell Owens won't be able to cast a ballot on Nov. 4," Miller said.

Walsh said agents from both the secretary of state's office and Nevada attorney general's office conducted the raid at 9:30 a.m. local time, and "took a bunch of stuff." Miller's office reported seizing eight computer hard drives and about 20 boxes of documents.

Bertha Lewis, interim chief organizer for ACORN, released a statement saying the group has for months been turning over any suspicious registration information to elections officials. She said those officials routinely ignored their tips, and called the raid a "stunt."

The left didn't work so hard on the firing of US Attorneys (whom they never supported anyway) for no reason.  It's been important to make the DoJ and US Attorneys seem exceptionally tainted by politics.   That will come in handy when they accuse this USAttorney of doing this for the Republicans.

Eh; the media will advance the spin that there were only a handful of ACORN canvassers who were involved without the organization's knowledge, that they try to prevent it, etc.

There may be a little merit to the argument that it was individual canvassers doing this, but it happens every fucking election with the same fucking result and yet they continue knowing full well what the result of paying poor people for each registration they get- legit or not.  Even if most of the duplicate and fake registrations don't result in a vote, the flood of fake registrations make catching vote fraud that much harder.

The MSM will let Obama slide.  They'll bury Obama's $800,000 "get out the (fraudulent) vote" contribution while endlessly repeating the Dem charges of this being a politically motivated effort by Republicans to suppress the votes of minorities, and that fake registrations don't necessarily lead to extra votes.

84 I wanna see this.  Actually, I wanna see a lot more than this.  I wanna see something like this every two days until the election.

My hope is that there's enough material, and that sooner or later the dam will break and the flood of crap will leave Obama stranded on a rock surrounded by former associates singing like canaries.

I want to see the NY Times finally get greedy and decide they have to cover news - like their Godhead's world coming unraveled - if they want to sell newspapers (that doesn't mean I don't want to see them out of business by 2012, but I'll give them a six-month reprieve in exchange for a little ethical behavior.)

And I want to see the McCain camp recognize that it's more important to be right and honest than to do anything to avoid being called racist by a bunch of racists.

Only a hope at this point.

I'm sure Hillary and her supporters are feeling the burn of having been swindled. I think this makes it less likely that McCain will lose. 98 Market up 600 points, RICO charges against ACORN. Now what we need is some new Ayers revelations.

101 Hmmm... not certain.  Federal crimes generally require interstate action at some point but  they can sometimes finesse this if the crime "affects" interstate commerce.

     --Ace #59

Doesn't all ACORN have to do is mail a lettter with the letter involving the crime to make it interstate?  The letter shouldn't even have to be interstate since the Federal Government is involved (USPS).

I hate to temper the enthusiasm, but this will not affect the election. Of course Acorn is bad, of course the Dems are corrupt, but nobody cares except us and we were not voting for Obama. This investigation will be slightly delayed until Obama takes office and then will be dropped. The media won't report it and the few remaining swing voters will think this is just the price one pays for hope and change and that it is just a dirty trick by the Republicans. The reality is they have the votes without cheating they were just doing it because well it is instinct. Someone please tell me I am wrong. I wan't to be Wrong.

Hollowpoint, you cannot be serious. Because Campbell Brown and that phat phuk Roland Martin are going to spin like tops, you don't think this ACORN issue is a huge deal?

Thank God for PUMAs, because way too many of the rest of you have lost your minds.

It doesn't matter how huge a deal you or I think it is if the MSM manages to convince the rest of the country that this is little more than a politically motivated investigation of little consequence and irrelevant to the Obama campaign.

Yes, it's a big deal- ACORN has been pulling this shit every election since at least the early 1990's, resulting in who-knows-how-many fraudulent votes.  That they've gotten away with it for so long with so little scrutiny or consequence only reinforces my point.

131 Last week a local talk show jock had Ken Blackwell on the air for an interview. Blackwell was asked if ACORN could be charged with RICO violations for their actions. He was very prompt & vigorous with his agreement. Maybe someone in Ohio government somewhere was listening and made some phone calls? Or was Blackwell just ahead of the crowd in anticipating the response from DOJ?

132 Awesome. ACORN reps always claimed that ACORN was the 'victim' when their people got caught committing fraud, time and time again.

If I was sick of that line of bull, I bet the various prosecutors that have had to deal with this sham organization were really extra-extra sick of it.

Prosecutors don't like getting lied to. They have kind of a hard-on for nailing people who lie to them, in fact.

That's a lot of other mother fuckers in the room to say that McCain has got ACORN spooge all over the his wrinkly ass.  Plus,  that was a 2006 "get together" that probably included a lot of Republican Cubans.

On the other hand,  Obama worked with ACORN,  worked for ACORN and represented ACORN in legal matters as an attorney,  and hired ACORN to do get out the vote work during this campaign.  That means Obama is dripping with so much ACORN spooge if you shine a UV light on him he lights up like a fucking peep show booth at 3 AM.  In Las Vegas.  After a sex addicts convention.  During a janitorial strike.

Yes, the RICO charges are going to be great ammunition, but they have to be deployed squarely in the face of The One.  I would imagine that the state governments, like in Nevada, have taken the lead in gathering all the info. at the state level, and have turned over their evidence to the Feds.  If the same names of workers, staff, trainers, etc., pop up in more than one state, bingo! - Interstate activities, grounds for a RICO case.

I may be just a little country lawyer, but I can see the writing on the wall for Captain Acorn, and it spells:  D-E-F-E-A-T.

Expect no questions regarding this in tomorrow night's debate. Also, no questions on guns or post-birth "abortions". Instead, expect the following:

1) Sen. Obama, how soon after your ascension will the seas start to recede? Because I'm thinking of buying some land currently underwater that will become ocean front after your magically heal the world.

2) Mr. McCain, does the cancer riddling your body up the rage you feel against brown-skinned people, or do the temporarily death-delaying drugs you take do it?

Seriously, if the MSM can embargo what it has already, ignoring this bit of news will be a piece of cake. Or they'll find some way to spin it so that McCain becomes the chief adviser to ACORN.

RICO is written in credibly broadly, and all sorts of conduct are swept into its ambit, but the easiest way to get in trouble here are the basics.

It is unlawful for:

a person
(can be any individual or legal entity capable of holding property (18 USC §1961))

who is associated with or employed by an enterprise (18 USC §1962) (enterprise can be an individual, partnership, corporation, or legal entity; or       enterprise can be union or group of individuals)

to conduct or participate in the affairs of the enterprise (18 USC §1962)

through a pattern (18 USC §1962) ( requires two acts within 10 years of one another  (18 USC §1961))

of racketeering activity  (18 USC §1962)

which is any act indictable under the mail or wire fraud statute (18 USC §1961)(among many many many other possibilities)

and

person devises or intends to devise a scheme to defraud and (18 USC §§1341; 1342)

for the purpose of executing the scheme  (18 USC §§1341; 1342)

uses the mail / wire or causes the same to be used  (18 USC §§1341; 1342)

Mr. Obama worked for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now's Project Vote voter-registration campaign in 1992 after graduating from Harvard Law School. He directed a successful voter-registration campaign, credited with electing Carol Moseley-Braun to the U.S. Senate. Primarily targeting African-Americans, Mr. Obama's efforts added an estimated 125,000 voters to the rolls.

http://tinyurl.com/52enw5

"I have been hoping for a seat on the Banking Committee," Senator Moseley Braun said, "so that I can work to generate economic growth and community development that will revitalize the economy of our nation -- particularly rural and urban low-income neighborhoods."

She endorsed President-elect Bill Clinton's plan to establish a network of specially chartered banks to plow money into distressed neighborhoods, and noted that the idea's best-known example is Chicago's own South Shore Bank.

IT is far too early to predict how any of these debates will turn out. Much depends on the Clinton Administration. But consumer and community groups, such as the well-organized Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, are gearing up to use their newfound allies in Congress.

"We believe that the banking industry needs to put its house in order before the Administration seriously considers the industry's demands for product and geographic deregulation," ACORN said last week in a letter to Treasury Secretary-designate Lloyd Bentsen. "We believe that the priorities of any new banking legislation should lie in the areas of increased consumer protection, community lending and assurances that regulatory measures are in place to protect Federal deposit insurance funds and the taxpayers who stand behind those funds."

Experts say that such voices are likely to be heard with sympathy on Capitol Hill.

The difference this time is that no one's competing for ACORN-constituent votes, they're all locked up (metaphorically if not physically) and there's no sense in even trying to pander to them.

Ohio ACORN Hiring Canvassers To Help Obama
Submitted by Jeff on Thu, 02/21/2008 - 12:22pm.

An announcement from Ohio ACORN political director Mari Engelhardt:

GOTV for Obama! Ohio ACORN is doing a Get Out The Vote project with the OBAMA Campaign. Ohio ACORN is hiring canvassers to go door to door encouraging voters to vote for Barack Obama.

ACORN is hiring in Cleveland (216)431-3905, Columbus (614)425-9491, Cincinnati (513)221-1737, for Dayton (call Cincinnati), and for Toledo call Cleveland. Or email polnatoh@acorn.org and your inquiry will be routed to the appropriate person in each of these cities. Intake and training will be held daily at local ACORN offices. Canvass begins on Wednesday Feb. 27th and will work through election day. Please, only persons wishing to work all or most of these days (Saturday and Sunday included) should inquire.

Please do not contact the Obama campaign directly regarding this post as they are not the organization doing the hiring and it will only distract their staff and volunteers from the other important work they are doing on behalf of Senator Obama.

210 I don't know if this was discussed already (the last few weeks has been a blur) --
McCain got his NRA endorsement on October 9th.

The Corner:
"There's a pretty straightforward correlation between NRA endorsements and Republican presidential victories. Since 1980, they endorsed Reagan twice, George H.W. Bush the first time but not the second, and George W. Bush twice."

Regardless of what other issues are hot, this is a perennial biggie.

The endorsement should heavily run as a 527 ad in the last few weeks (assuming it hasn't yet.)

How about Operation Nutcracker?

Posted by: LouisianaLightning at October 13, 2008 02:32 PM (nyxv/)

212 "Enough with the Christian-bashing-baiting, Christoph."

I'm just answering the question honestly. U.S. mail and wire fraud lies are really all encompassing. It's very difficult not to violate several related and unrelated U.S. statutes.

One, I believe Jesus probably didn't exist. Two, if he did, he was definitely human, and not a God. Three he'd have almost had to be a God to not violate some use federal statute. I'm sure I've broken several and you have too.

By the way, I haven't "bashed" Christians today. Christians feel that way because they have so much vested in the divinity of Jesus. However, if Christians state they believe Jesus is the Son of God and our Saviour, I don't feel this is a personal attack directed at me. Likewise, if I say I don't believe Jesus existed and if he did, he wasn't Divine, this shouldn't be taken as an attack.

To the degree it is taken as one, it's because of the Christian's belief system, not because of anything untoward I have said.

In any case if this happens the US Attorney better have a conviction by January 21, 2009 because when Obama gets sworn among his first acts will be to fire the US Attorney in Ohio and most likely all of the US Attorney's.  The media will be totally silent and when conservatives mention the US Attorney firing witch hunt that the Dems/media ran for the last three years the media will note that the President has the power to hire and fire the US Attorney's at will and will move on.  Yes ladies and gentlemen prepare for 4-8 years of mindnumbing levels of media/Dem hypocrisy.  Poor George is going to be sitting on his ranch in Texas watching Cpt. You're missing the point I believe.

ACORN is using this to remind conservatives that McCain was the Amnesty guy in the Senate. This is the stuff that drives down turnout and depresses volunteers on the Right. Also, it makes McCain not want to bring it up.

McCain "is not in any way involved with ACORN"... apart from agreeing with ACORN over a matter vital to America's future and sovereignty. Which is what matters to Malkin.

But we don't have to let it bother us.

Which is why I suggest that Palin bring up ACORN's racket, over and over; and when asked about McCain's involvement, Palin should speak along the lines of "I personally would not have attended" and leave it at that. It's not a Republican problem or a Palin problem; it's a McCain problem, and I'm voting not for McCain but for Palin through McCain.

The following is the partial text I received today from Gov. Palin, on behalf of the campaign:

"The Obama-Biden Democrats and their liberal, allied interest groups are spending more than $1 billion to defeat our ticket in critical races across the country. They're flooding the airwaves and stuffing mailboxes with misleading information, and in some cases flat out lies about us.

The truth is that far-left groups in this country will do anything to help the Obama-Biden Democrats win the White House and maintain their majorities in Congress. And last week, we found out they're going even further to win.

The left-wing activist group, ACORN, is now under investigation for voter registration fraud in a number of battleground states. ACORN's political action committee has endorsed Barack Obama and Senator Obama himself has said, "I have been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career." The Obama Campaign even paid more than $800,000 to an ACORN affiliate for "get out the vote activity." And now we find out that ACORN is suspected of voter registration fraud.

But, the Obama-Biden Democrats would rather sweep these facts under the rug and use their mainstream media allies to bury this story. But we can't let that happen. We can't allow leftist groups like ACORN to steal this election. "

Sounds like, through Palin, the campaign is going to pursue this, and hard.

265 "Christoph, if you fucking thread jack one more time, you're out of here."

That's fine, Ace.

But it has nothing to do with my "thread jacking". When I posted an off topic comment about Canada's election and it being against the law here to cover it in real time earlier today, no one said anything, and when I brought up Ed Morrissey's excellent article about British generalship vs. American generalship (with America coming out on top), no one said anything...

... but when I responded to someone's rhetorical point using Jesus as a moral example re: community organizing, then you and your commenters -- because Christianity is the de riger conservative default position -- have a bird.

While I'm going out of my way to point out I don't have a problem with Christians, but will respond to comments using Jesus as a moral example with the contrary possibility.

So this has nothing to do with "thread jacking" and everything to do with the actual opinion I'm expressing.

David: "Ugliest 80's Hair Band: Twisted Sister v. Loverboy"

Daily distraction which actually kinda has something to do with Team Obama's politics to follow:

I went to a Ratt concert some moons ago and Twisted Sister was one of the warm-up bands. During the show, a "heckler" from the front row on the lower deck started razzing Dee Snider and the band. With a bajillion watts of sound energy and the concomitant ringing of ears between the songs, who could say what the ruckus was about? Didn't matter. Snider went on an extended "rant" to the chorus of cheers from possibly drug-addled if not slightly inebriated malcontents (present company naturally excepted). And the show went on.

So, Team Snider had astroturfed to add flavor, excitement, and a story to their performance. If I recall correctly, it was SOP for that particular leg of their tour (so I was told by an industry insider who dealt with this stuff and who provided me with the ticket) to create buzz and attitude. I thought their music was pretty awful, but the act did get people's attention. They ended up headlining their own tour not too long afterward.

So, this little trip down memory lane reminds me of Team Obama and Axelrod astroturfing. Their politics suck but they have a nice little scheme going to create an atmosphere among the masses who look for every opportunity to side with their lead even if the show is a bit rough or stale. The stunt caused a (positive) bump in attention that apparently lasted longer than the show itself.

As to the bad hair day decade... Twisted Sister wins, hands down. Man they were a sight. They put Ratt to shame which was quite a feat.

Okay, I will comment on the post.

The post kind of sucked, actually.

I overlooked the suckiness of the actual post and writing because the news is good. One hopes it's helpful to McCain's campaign.

But aside from the fact that it's completely unsourced and if it's going to happen tomorrow I don't know what advantage there is in posting it now other than to prove Ace is "in the know", there's also the usual jump the gun and correct it later philosophy without knowing whether it's state ACORN or federal ACORN, and I'm sure that Ace doesn't know what he doesn't know.

It was a rush job.

Maybe that's why so many AoSHQ posts are withdrawn after being published, and edited multiple times, often without any statement in the post that they've been updated.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

I've often said Ace's actual political analysis is excellent and if he could write without saying the word "fucking", referring to titties, or perhaps even shave daily he could have one hell of a career for a much more impactfuling organization.

Hey dickhead, Bart was goofing on the anti-Palin meme passed around weeks ago by Obama surrogates (Jesus - community organizer, Pilate - governor). His post had nothing to do with the Christian faith. You chose to jump in not once, but twice, to Christian-bait. There are plenty of atheists and agnostics on this site who choose not to bait the religious in general or Christians in particular. For that matter, there are believers of many different faiths who don't bait others. And yet, you seem incapable of some common fucking courtesy and when called on it you try to play it off as, "He started it!"

I hope Davis' sexual weirdness was kept to himself and not shared with Obama. I don't like Obama; his positions on abortion and infanticide are enough to cement that.

However, naturally I hope he wasn't sexually abused or exploited when younger. Christians and non-Christians (this is an attempt at unity, not division) can agree on that I trust.

Davis sounds sickening. In the Enquirer article I read, which presented sparse facts, I didn't see anything I'd hold against Obama.

329 Conspiracy to commit fraud is every bit as much of a crime as actually committing fraud. You don't have to murder someone before you can be charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Besides conspiracy to commit voter fraud there is definitely voter registration fraud here which is a crime.
There is also just outright fraud. If contributions are solicited for voter registration and they also push Obama while registering that is fraud. Those monies would have to stay strictly separate.

There has been no voter fraud, dumbass.  Registration forms that were questionable were separated and tagged as such.  they couldn't be disgarded, because they're legal documents.

None of the erroneous registration forms have resulted in anyone voting who was not legally eligible to.

Linda Kay Hill, a homemaker and Louisiana native, died Aug. 2, 2006, of a heart attack, her husband recalled, and is buried at Houston Memorial Gardens in Pearland. But Harris County voter records indicate she –- or someone using her identity –- cast a ballot in the November election that year. Linda Hill of Woodwick Street voted in person on Election Day, records show.

Anyway, as an actual non-concerned American Catholic, I don't give a damn as to what Christoph has to say. Must burn his buns to be named after the Christ-carrier (who didn't exist, I'll give you that - but tell that to the little old ladies with the St. Christopher's medals in their Cadillacs). I will admit we Catholics can be pretty damn smug, it comes with the territory. For one, we've got a Pope, which it doesn't seem that anything else above cult size has, so there's an actual teaching of our Church as opposed to contradictory proclamations that one gets within other churches and faiths. Yeah, we're pretty insufferable when it comes to talking about having a coherent doctrine and actual final authority on said doctrine.

Anyway, I'll say a Hail Mary for my fellow morons, this being a Marian month and all. Enjoy.

381 "Come on Christoph.  Stick to your guns. Next time someone mentions Jesus or Christianity don't let them slide.  You're on the right side of this issue.  Look forward to your next take down of these clowns."

I'm not trying to take down Christianity per se. If you looked at my posts on this thread in order you'll see most of mine were either related to this topic, or to other topics within the current political environment. Those that veered off into a discussion of Christianity were, with one exception re: Michelle Malkin and there it was more a reflection on her personality than the actual Catholic faith, were very mildly worded.

My mood when writing them was mostly humour and a bit of chagrin.

Again, when other people bring up Christianity or Jesus or whatever as if it's relevant (and to the degree Christianity is a belief system outlining right and wrong actions it is relevant), then I may weave a response to those into my comments.

Whereupon everyone goes apeshit and accuses me of being hateful.

The highly accurate IBD/TIPP poll has started today with its daily tracking of likely voters. Just off the press: Obama 45; McCain 43; and 13 percent unsure. The poll of 825 likely voters has an error margin of +/- 3.5 percentage points. Also, McCain has a 48-41 lead among investors with 10 percent not sure. All this is good news for McCain.

I don't get the correction. Who else can bring a RICO indictment except a U.S. Attorney? It's not going to be brought by the AG of Ohio, that's for sure. No, I'm not doing it to boost traffic."

For the record, I believe you, but I stand by my comment #302 given before your pullback that your research is too often sloppy, you don't always consider the reliability of your source and/or gain a complete understanding of what your source is trying to communicate prior to posting, and you frequently correct your posts without providing anything like accountable updates.

Patterico would be a good model in that regard. I've seen posts of his where he attacks liberal bloggers for their corrections without clear explanation (you often add to your posts, subtract from your posts, change headlines, etc.), but I guess lib bloggers aren't as organized to do that to you.

Major story or minor story, it won't matter.  The media will bury it.  The liberals won't credit it.  The Democrats will claim it's racist.

angler 247, excellent news.

At the risk of provoking Awesome Happy Fun Guy!, is there any way Malkin etc can produce slightly less damaging spins on McCain's problems with the base? I agree that it's important for us to keep abreast of bad news which the nutroots already know. But an "(unfortunately McCain did in 2006 ...)" parenthesis could be tucked into a story about ACORN's anti-Americanism, without it becoming the lede. Over. And. Over. Again.

As for this story... uh... yeah. I'm just glad I used this thread to burble about a tangential issue. We should've learnt from Kos that essential law of American politics, "Fitzmas Never Comes".

430 "is there any way Malkin etc can produce slightly less damaging spins on McCain's problems with the base?"

How damaging is Michelle Malkin expressing her opinion on McCain, really, David Ross?

I don't think undecided voters frequent her blog. Also, Ace was referring to McCain's "betrayal" on third party reports he's decided to go down to an "honorable" defeat rather than fight.

I guess Malkin could depress the conservative turnout. Is that what you're thinking or am I missing your point?

I agree that the base is too fickle. It's centrist war hero vs. well, far-left Barack Obama. It should be no contest.

To a conservative a centrist is annoying, but really, compared to the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate who was friends with Wright, Ayers, Rezko?

464 "I don't think Malkin sees her purpose in life as that one put here on earth to titillate assholes on the internet. Your attitude sounds too much like that of the moonbats who never miss a chance to sexually and racially denigrate her."

I'd be tempted to say your comment could have merit, but having thought about it, it doesn't.

For example when people were talking about wanting Palin, VILP and the like, I thought that was totally inappropriate, mostly because she's married, as is Malkin.

But, seeing how I wrote my comment I could see how you'd see it that way. No, I've seen too many videos of Malkin where she seems to have a low opinion from a position of preening superiority to young women who are expressing or acting on their sexuality. That's the basis for my opinion of Malkin.

There's a commenter here who was talking about sex in extreme detail the other day. It was "gratifying" to use your words. I and other male commenters enjoyed it and she was answering a question she was asked (yes, by me). It was interesting.

The commenter is intelligent and morally right on every major issue I've ever seen her comment on. And the fact she enjoys sex, including a particular sex act, to me makes her entirely normal and human and it's her position on other issues that give me evidence of her moral worth.

I have a strong feeling based on what I've seen Malkin say in the past and how I've heard her say it that she'd look down upon said commenter and talk about how what she, the commenter, said was wrong, low class, etc. And I wouldn't agree with Malkin one bit.

Neither would half the U.S. army (at least) for that matter, including most of the American female soldiers I've known, in some cases intimately.

I guess I don't like people who look down upon brave, noble warriors or just decent people enjoying their lives and doing their jobs because they don't match Michelle Malkin's sense of sexual propriety. I think her sense of sexual proprietary is wonderful for her. I have no problem with it. She's married. It's fantastic.

But she looks down upon people who are as good as she is and that's vexing. I think this is one of her reasons for being against McCain, by the way.

And on that note, I'll end this comment by agreeing with Malkin. Because McCain was married, he should have done better despite his wife's accident and disability.

But the commenter in question (to the best of my knowledge; I'm not sure on this), and (definitely) some of the women I've seen Michelle Malkin harshly criticize were not married and were not acting in an immoral way.

A sexual way, but not an immoral way.

"Well, it could explain why a guy who really believed he was up by 10-15 in the polls and on the way to 350 EV would make such an expensive prime time buy."

He's doing it because, in effect, he has infinite money and he has to spend it on something. And because he doesn't want just to win: he wants to win huge.

He's not alone in that. There's a story told about Ronald Reagan, on election night of 1984, when he took 49 states, to Mondale's one (Minnesota) and the District of Columbia. After Mondale conceded, Reagan went on the air and made his usual gracious speech, praising his opponent and God bless America. Then, after the speech, he turned to an aide and said, "Why didn't we spend more time in Minnesota?"

Why just win if you can win huge? Why just beat your opponents if you can grind them into the dirt? If war is politics by other means, politics certainly is war by other means: and in war, the goal always is the unconditional surrender of the enemy. Anything less than that is a just a degree of failure. Here endeth the lesson.

who cares?  its a "comments" section on a blog.  (although i do like Ace and his blog even though he gets a bit pessimistic at times).

my point, without trying to be funny (the star wars stuff was an attempt at humor - however bad) is that there are two choices right now: "OK" or "Very BAD".

OK = McCain (although Sarah is Very GOOD).

Very BAD = Obama.

Michelle, though i like a lot of what she says, seemingly tends to the "pure" case thinking we can undo the damage later.  i don't;  i think, once in (God forbid), getting the marxists out and undoing the damage they caused will be 3 or 4 times as hard.

"I don't think Malkin sees her purpose in life as that one put here on earth to titillate assholes on the internet. Your attitude sounds too much like that of the moonbats who never miss a chance to sexually and racially denigrate her."

how does Dave know what michelle "see her purpose in life" as?  perhaps, a supernatural power on his part?

let me ask you this, and to borrow dave's words, "dumbass", has he asked her?  get her on record, if this is the case, please, and I'll retract anything I've said.

my position stands - you have two choices: the first is "OK" and the second is "Very Bad".    "OK" is john mccain and "Very Bad" is Obama.  Michelle can rail all she wants against McCain, but i think the alternative is worse in the short and long runs.

The strong desire for Tiffany jewelry could be seen as my vain and florid dreams and I will lose interesting in others only for this. While Tiffany & Co. is a grand company which stands for another kind of US beauty, the company Tiffany and Co really does a lot to better our life. Thank you very much for your understanding. May Jesus bless you.
