Apparently Biden's Gaffes Are Contagious

You'd never know it from this clip but this guy is supposed to be introducing Joe Biden.

I'm not sure but I think Biden began his remarks by saying, "God love you for that introduction. What am I saying? You're a freaking jackass".

16 Biden's brain is a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material.

None of this matters. You can mock Biden relentlessly, but to what end? What matters is, McCain was awful in last night's debate and Obama was very good.

And McCain's awful performance was his fault. Not Brokaw's, not the format--McCain's fault, and McCain alone.

What, some of you don't think he was awful? Well, God bless you, then. Have fun mocking Biden.

Well, I would laugh more at this if it weren't for the sad fact that we are slouching towards a Soviet style governing system.

23

Mccain was awful?

No he was not. He was stronger on everything except maybe healthcare, but personally Mccains plan is more reasonable and is a real reform of healthcare.

I know, you think when asked questions he should have ignored them and talked about Bill Ayers. That is ridiculous.

He needed to be a statesmen. He was. Palin is the bomb thrower. It is unfolding perfect. Bush was always thought to lose the debates as well but what happened?

24 Well, I would laugh more at this if it weren't for the sad fact that we are slouching towards a Soviet style governing system.

Oh come on, we've just spent 8 years beating up on the let for crying Fascism! every time Bush took a dump, let's not spend the next 8 doing it ourselves.

Are we heading towards some Euro-weenie social democracy? Probably (and that's bad enough, though it's been happening for years) but we aren't headed towards a one legal party political system with Gulags.

Let's not buy into the idea that one election is the end of the Republic. Have a little more faith in America guys.

Biden's brain is a series of tubes

You have to be specific. If it’s diodes, triodes, or more the complicated thyrotron then the problem is the grid is absorbing all his electrons emitted from the cathode before they get to the plate. This causes his gaffes to peak until he can get his tinfoil hat or replace the tubes. I recommend a 12AU7 by RCA, but those are getting hard to find.

If his brain is made up of all those aluminum tubes used to channel high energy photons (plasma) from a runaway fission event into a cloud of vaporized tritium, then his problem is that his tritium count is low and he needs to eat some more watch dials. I recommend the older model Seiko’s, you know, the ones that were so hot they set off detectors from 20 feet away.

If his brain is made up of “inner tubes” then he is shit out of luck because nobody uses those any more. Not even for swimming down at the local river.

We could continue to lament McCain's performance relentlessly, but to what end?

To this end: to convert his flaws to virtues, in hopes that he does better in the next debate.

He was stronger on everything except maybe healthcare ...

No, he was not. He wasn't strong where it mattered most: namely, making the point that Obama was not fit to be president. All Obama had to do in this debate was make himself acceptable as a presidential candidate. He succeeded.

I know, you think when asked questions he should have ignored them and talked about Bill Ayers.

No, I don't think that, which is why I didn't say that. Try again. Since you're presuming to tell me how I think, you may get it right next time.

He needed to be a statesmen.

Wrong. He needed to attack Obama. He needed to be less statesmanlike and more aggressive. Obama's key strength is in seeming statesmenlike. It's a function of his coolness, his silky manner. McCain can't compete with him in this regard, and shouldn't. Beating statesmenlike is a style issue, and Obama has McCain beat on that score. McCain needed to call bullshit on Obama, not play the statesman. The issues under discussion and content of the questions shouldn't have mattered.

Posted by: Steve (aka Ed Snate) at October 08, 2008 02:08 PM (k6O3T)

29 Supporting McCain's like carrying a dead body up Mt Everest.

Look, he didn't have to come out snarling but as long as he let's Obama define himself as *close* to McCain politically people are going to tend to go with the fresh face/alternative. Remember, the '06 congressional elections? How it couldn't get any worse? How many Republicans fell for that tard logic? This is more of the same only with undecideds and Dims, the very people who by definition want the new sparkly toy.

Obama gave him several hanging softballs especially in foreign policy. BO's "plan", such as it is, is welfare for the world. He wants to be the world's sugardaddy. This is a graft-ridden Chicago pol's sort of plan - ie. grease palms to get what you want.

McCain could've tied everything bad about Obama just riffing on that alone and done it with a sad but true attitude if he didn't want to throw red meat.

I'll vote for the guy because the alternative sucks so badly. But I'd like him to fight for himself.

steve it was a fake town hall format that really provided no opportunity to assault him

He handled Obama on taxes saying"nailing down his tax policy is like nailing jello to the wall" "the last president to raise taxes in an economic crisis like this was Herbert Hoover"

You do not understand the strategy their campaign is running. I do. Palin is the draw on the ticket that snatches headlines. She will make obama seem so far out of the mainstream that McCain needs to just be an acceptable option.

I know you disagree. If mac would have went out there assaulting him in that setting it would have been the end of his campaign. The media has been trying to set him up saying he has to have a gamechanger. No he does not. He has to get stronger on the economy. Republicans and conservatives are not the only poeple he needs to win. He hit obama on Fannie and Freddie. He also stated unequivically that he would protect Isreal. Obama started talking about hanging out with A-jad and gas prices.

From the perspective of a former lifelong dem, i thought he did well. He also hammered obama on fining poeple for healthcare that cannot afford it. Obama admitted he will fine poeple but not how much. Mccain shot back" did you hear the cost of the fine."

In the last debate i am betting you get what you want. An all out assault. Last night did not give the opportunity. Also, aside from the media who ALWAYS thinks obama wins even when Hillary was spanking him in debate after debate. I am not sure Obama was all that impressive.

32 "To this end: to convert his flaws to virtues, in hopes that he does better in the next debate."

WE are going to convert his flaws to virtues? Us AoS morons? When Ace had to spend two weeks sending maniacal e-mails in ALL CAPS to his McCain campaign source, just to get him to make one speech on Fannie-Freddie (if even that was the reason)?

I hope you're right, that McCain's handlers are scanning AoS, looking for notropis' point of view.

And in case they are:

"Hey, you lame-ass morons (and I don't mean that in a nice way), PULL OUT ALL THE STOPS!!! NAME NAMES!!!! ACT LIKE YOU WANT TO WIN THIS THING!!!!!!!!"

And Biden's still a buffoon, and if we don't have our own Letterman or John Stewart, we'll just have to entertain ourselves with his buffoonery.

33 Vic, that made me LOL.

I recommend a 12AU7 by RCA, but those are getting hard to find.

JJ in Slovakia (former Tesla factory) makes some pretty decent 12A_7 dual-triodes y'know. Pretty close to the best NOS tubes, unless you have especially sensitive ears or have extremely stringent tech standards.

Posted by: IllTemperedCur at October 08, 2008 02:25 PM (Ds4I5)

34 Vic: Thanks. At least it's clear that you understand that Biden's brain isn't a big truck, or just something that you dump something on.

Can a 12Au7 handle enormous amounts of material? I think that's really the salient question.

I wondered how many people out there remembered any of that old shit. But I forgot there are still some people who worship the old vacuum tube stuff and will not go to solid state. My Uncle has an old McIntosh tube set (200W) that people have been trying to buy from him for years and he will not sell. My older brother has an old Heathkit 200W amp that he built back in the 60s. That’s all he will use. Of course he has been stocking up on those old tubes for decades. During the latter years he has been getting them from Russia.

37

Can a 12Au7 handle enormous amounts of material? I think that's really the salient question.

The 12AU7 was/is used in the audio output and pre-amp sections of amplifiers as a stage amplifier. They have a gain factor of about 15 on the average. The power output depends on how many you can cram in the circuit.http://tinyurl.com/4oagno

And that pretty much exhausts my knowledge on the  subject.
