| McCain/Palin Ramp Up Attacks On Obama And His Terrorist PalsLots of interesting bits today on where the presidential race is heading with less than a month to go. Today’s Washington Post has a story quoting campaign sources as saying McCain is going to focus more on Obama’s liberal policies and questionable (to say the least) associations.A senior aide said the campaign will wait until after Tuesday's debate to decide how and when to release new commercials, adding that McCain and his surrogates will continue to cast Obama as a big spender, a high taxer and someone who talks about working across the aisle but doesn't deliver. Two other top Republicans said the new ads are likely to hammer the senator from Illinois on his connections to convicted Chicago developer Antoin "Tony" Rezko and former radical William Ayres, whom the McCain campaign regularly calls a domestic terrorist because of his acts of violence against the U.S. government in the 1960s. The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. appears to be off limits after McCain condemned the North Carolina Republican Party in April for an ad that linked Obama to his former pastor, saying, "Unfortunately, all I can do is, in as visible a way as possible, disassociate myself from that kind of campaigning."Sarah Palin certainly got the memo. After saying yesterday that Obama isn’t qualified to be the Commander in Chief because of his statements on the conduct of US military actions in Afghanistan, she ups the ante today by going after Obama’s good friend, unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers. There's been a lot of interest in what I read lately. Well, I was reading my copy of today’s New York Times and I was really interested to read about Barack’s friends from Chicago. Turns out, one of his earliest supporters is a man who, according to The New York Times was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, ‘launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol.’ These are the same guys who think patriotism is paying higher taxes. This is not a man who sees America as you and I do - as the greatest force for good in the world. This is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country. This, ladies and gentlemen, has nothing to do with the kind of change anyone can believe in - not my kids and not your kids. The only man who can take on Washington is John McCain.Let Sarah be Sarah indeed. For a more complete take down of that NY Times article, see Stanley Kurtz in The Corner. He calls it a ‘Whitewash’ of the Obama-Ayers relationship (which though accurate, may in fact be racist). All in all I’m glad to see this move by the McCain camp but it makes me a little worried. Going negative like this is necessary because they are behind and most likely because between the economy and fallout from the bailout plan they need to change the subject quickly. I know McCain didn’t want to run a “Rovian” base election but you know, it did work. Twice. Given McCain’s apparent abandonment of Michigan, it’s hard to see what states McCain is going to flip from blue to red. In fact, he’s got a fight on his hands to keep states like Florida and Virginia in his column. The conventional wisdom has always been if the election is about McCain/the last 8 years, Obama wins. If it’s about Obama, McCain wins. I think that’s right. I just hope McCain hasn’t waited too long to hit him hard without it being seen as desperation. Comments1

Use Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" against them. Make them abide by their own rules, humiliate them, force them to live up to their own standards and by their own words.

Not too late at all. But he shouldn't change the subject completely either. He needs to be blaming Barney Frank and Chris Dodd and promising he will make them pay and make certain this sort of financial disaster never happens again. He can't completely hide from the fianacial deal. He has to get out in front of the anger. Grand stand his ass off...like he did on the torture thing.

I saw a few minutes of one of those crappy Entertainment Tonight type shows yesterday and they actual said something interesting - based on the ratings, Sarah Palin is he biggest start on television right now. And that means even with the MSM being in the tank for Obama, whatever she says WILL BE REPORTED. Sure it'll be spun, but it won't be ignored.
Time for Sarahcuda to attack. Posted by: Macy at October 04, 2008 04:38 PM (mjJic) 6

"A senior aide said the campaign will wait until after Tuesday's debate to decide how and when to release new commercials" WHY WAIT? McCain has ALREADY proven he is a gentleman in control of emotions. McCain should NOT be tepid any longer. Pussy footing doesn't suit a Commander in Chief. Mr. Nice Guy isn't going to kill Osama bin Laden or anyone else. If McCain can't defeat Obama, people will wonder who McCain could defeat. I can't understand why they are not hammering the Dems over the credit crisis. It is not that hard to understand.
"For the last 5 years, John McCain and the Republicans have tried to reform Fannie and Freddie, and were frustrated by the Congressional Democrats while associates of Barack Obama illegally profited from the scandal. Now they are trying to shift the blame for the crisis they allowed to happen. America deserves the truth. America deserves a real reformer, John McCain." The timing is interesting. Talk it up before the debate, but don't actually start the commercials, etc. Might just put Barry on the defensive for the debate, without giving him a lot to complain about.

The only time in my life that I've ever been involved in any kind of legal proceedings, the lawyer gave me the following advice: Look straight at the jury and tell them what you know and exactly what happened as you saw it. Seems like good advice for the Mc/Palin team. The media has is and will continue to withold information from the electorate. It's up to the candidates to look straight in to the camera and tell America exactly what they know, how they know it, and how to go about verifying it. Obama's got way to much shit in his crib to not spend some time pointing it out. And maybe you start further discrediting the MSM in the eyes of the average low info American voter in the process. win/win

The ONLY way for this tack to not be seen, or at least MSM portryed, as a desperate diversion, is to simultaneously attack with ALL the reserves thrown in.... the Democrats specifically for Fannie Mess. Hit hard, and DO NOT CARE what the reaction is. I wouldn't even care what polls and focus groups show at this point. Only a simple three prong strategy can win this 1) Attack O over Ayers, Wright etc. (they are) 2) HAMMER them over Fannie Mess (they better) 3) Totally and categorically cut Sarah Palin loose from any leash whatsoever. She contradicts McCain "Yeah, so?" She's new, and she might blow it? Too bad, take that risk. It's crunch time. This is all that's left, folks.

Assume you aren't a political junkie.
You tuned in and saw Biden say the full load of bullshit that he said during the debate on Thursday without being countered. Would you vote for McCain? You also have heard the Palin smears in passing over the last few weeks, with little to counter them. Again, would you vote for the ticket? Going this route is fine, but it's just necessary not just to attack, but to hit back at the blows that you're receiving. I realize it's somewhat futile, but to give up that fight on the grounds you can't win is a self-fulfilling prophecy and (aside from complaining about the NYT and the occasional ad) the McCain camp is really letting Biden and Obama get away with murder. When they lie during the debate, hit back. We'll gloss over it because we've heard their talking points a thousand times before, but many Americans haven't and to let it go unrefuted is to lose. At every campaign event, and especially at the debates, McCain and Palin should state that the mainstream media aren't telling the American public about Obama: about his ruinous economic ideas; about his odious connections; about how his buddies fucked up the mortgage system. Say this at the debate on Tuesday! Don't harp on it, but say it clearly a couple of times.

Absolutely, cut to the chase with EARLY CONTRACEPTION. Before the debate, NOW, have the record organized online. During the debate, refer any Obama denials to the record online. Publicly bind Obama to his record of slime. After the debate, ads should renounce the tactics of Obama's supporters: Hacking Palin's private email; Evil rumor mongering about the Palin family; Missouri executive & judicial public servants officially deny free speech and threaten punitive punishment; Vandalism to private property; Repudiating civility towards conservatives; Denying and corrupting records and gagging efforts to stop corruption. SHAME THE LEFTISTS THOUGH THEY HAVE NONE, PARADE THE CORRUPTION FROM THE LEFT. That the DNC wants to call it quits right now proves their insecurity in this volatile, culminating month of the POTUS campaign. Posted by: maverick muse at October 04, 2008 05:03 PM (F1b/5) 22

I don't know why McCain's been so hesitant to go negative all along. He's 72 years old, shouldn't give a shit whether his colleagues love him or not. The past few weeks should have opened his eyes to the true nature of all that sweet love he's been getting for years from the Democrats. They've loved him so long as he's been the "lovable loser".

MSNBC just re-ran the VP debate with "Truth
Squad" pop-ups which came up almost exclusively when Palin was speaking. When
Biden said we spend more in 3 weeks in Iraq than in 7 years in Afghanistan,
nothing! When she brought up the Obama will meet with Ahmadinijad without
preconditions issue, the pop-up said he has said he'd meet with foreign leaders,
but didn't "name names". For Obama's voting against funding the troops, the
pop-up helpfully explained that it was because the bill didn't contain a
timeline. Biden on Pakistan having the ability to nuke Israel? Nothing! It was on from 12:30-2:00 p.m. PST. I hope Ace or Fox or somebody will pick up on this.

McCain's communication skills are no better than Bush's.
With the over-the-top media bias, this is just KILLING Republicans. That's why I lot of us wanted Giuliani -- he can communicate. American is a center-right country, and you have a complete centrist running against a far-left Democrat (probably farthest left of any candidate ever), and the centrist is losing big-time. WTF? The Republicans better realize how this media bias changes the game, and getter realize it f'n fast, and start running candidates that can talk and think on their feet. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that all Republicans need is a conservative that can't be portrayed as a redneck or religious extremist AND who can talk and think on his/her feet, and the election would be a f'n landslide. AD (not me), never underestimate the damage of being on the defensive. The McCain campaign has made many goofy moves, but it is not a mistake to be on offense. "No I'm not!" makes you look weak. Maybe there could have been a response, but there is only one thing in politics that's more damaging than making personal attacks and that's responding to personal attacks. Moreover, the Obama campaign was able to stay above the Palin fray and let the media do the attacks for them.
And, as to changing the subject, I think the McCain campaign is ready with a counterpunch and that is that they don't want to change the subject, they want to talk about Obama's other friends -- his buddies on Wall Street who created this mess. I agree with something Ace once posted. McCain wanted the bill to pass. He didn't want to risk an uncertain bill and confused markets. Posted by: AmishDude at October 04, 2008 05:10 PM (GlrN/) 29

My completely anecdotal, unscientific analysis based on the remarks of the fucktards I teach:
1) Undecided females in the squishy middle are put-off by Sarah because she is too perfect. As I have said before, Sarah aggravates all their insecurities. 2) Most people swallowed Biden's bullshit without realizing it was shit he was feeding them. 3) They are convinced McCain is old and going to die soon; Dizzy Lizzy is not ready to lead. 4) Black people do not care that the Messiah supports gay marriage, though they themselves hate gays; do not care that he supports infanticide; do not care about his terrorist cronies; about his complicity in the Fannie/Freddie meltdown; about none of it. Wouldn't care if I produced video of Barry ass-raping their nephews. They are voting for Barry with a VENGEANCE. It's PAYBACK time in the US of KKK A. 5) Whites in the squishy middle, who alone have the power to stop this, are not inclined to do so, because fat cat Republicans ruined the economy. Maverick has to beat Obama bloody on Tuesday. I hope he's up for it. Posted by: Milesdei at October 04, 2008 05:19 PM (ACHxk) 31

Now, why on earth would he have waited "too long" to hit Barry? I know!! Because all you dumb-ass whites who are so damn afraid of blacks constantly cautioned any and all to be veeeery careful of how you speak about Barry, who is, you know, (half) black. Almost none of you get it. You see, once you let 20 very close years with a raging anti-white racist be explained away as a "judgement" issue, you set up EVERYTHING that was/ is to follow as being a "judgement" issue. He should have been dismissed right away as the racist that he is, but heaven forbid we ever have the nerve to point out obvious facts about people (Al Sharpton is still a legitimate figure to idiots like Hannity, and is mostly described as being an activist) This site is no different. Curse your asses off, use crude ways to fool with homo's, but DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES make fun of blacks! Why, we're representing the McCain camp here, and lots of others read this stuff and it might be used against McCain! You're right, it is too late. The question I have for black people who want to vote for Obama because he's black (well, after a fashion) is: What happens if America's first black president turns out to be an unmitigated disaster? Worse than Carter? What if he turns out to be a buffoon who's in over his head and fails at everything he does? The guy is clearly a puppet for people like Axelrod. Moreover, every player in the Dem party -- from Reid to Bill Richardson -- think they will be the ones really pulling the strings. When they bump into each other during the puppet show, there'll be a war like you haven't seen. Obama has neither the strength of will nor the political chits to tell half of his party and the media and academia to shove it. They all think they are the Dr. Frankenstein who made the creature. McCain was right to hold back for so long. If he put this out too early, Obama would have time to recover.

We should not be glum about the prospect of these attacks working. And we should not view them as last-ditch, desperate efforts. For all we know, the McCain campaign timing on these attacks is well planned and ideal. If the attacks work, there will not likely be enough time for Obama to recover. And if they do not work with a month to go before election day, there is not a whole lot of reason to believe that they ever would have worked.
If McCain had launched these attacks months ago, their effect may have eventually lost potency as team Obama made adjustments and disassociations. Plus as MamaAJ pointed out: by waiting, McCain has minimized the chances of political blowback. It will be difficult for Obama to start complaining before the attacks become full fledged – lest he strangely draw more voter attention to his own character defects than McCain/Palin have yet to. But if Obama dare not make an issue of the attacks during either of the two remaining debates, then he cannot confront McCain as being an un-presidential, mean old man. Likewise, Obama will not be able to portray himself as a Presidential Statesman rising above victim hood.
If McCain had launched these attacks sooner, it would have been far easier for the MSM and Obama to portray McCain as petty and un-presidential. Once the debates are over, hopefully McCain will go nuclear with the attacks – complete with rousing stump speeches. At that point, it will not be as easy to make McCain out the villain. To be sure, there will be shrill complaints from the MSM. But there will be no more face to face confrontations between Obama and McCain on live television in front of millions of voters where an MSM ‘impartial moderator’ can distort the images of the two candidates by stressing inappropriate comparisons and asserting bogus premises. It is easy to imagine a ‘moderator’ with furrowed brow asking McCain if he’s worried that such attacks on Obama’s character, rather than his ideas, coming so close to election day might not be seen by the voters as lowball, Republican-dirty-trick-tactics from a campaign that is desperately behind in the polls. Question after question like this would be glibly lobbed at McCain with the ‘moderator’ insinuating surprise and even disgust at McCain’s answers. Meanwhile, Obama would be tossed nothing but low hanging softballs on the same topic.
So if I have any concern, it is that maybe McCain should have waited until just before or just after the last debate to begin these attacks. (But then again, maybe team McCain feels that would be too late.) There are still two debate opportunities for an MSM ‘moderator’ to ‘impartially’ challenge and perhaps thereby derail McCain’s attacks before he really commits to them. Will McCain be able to maintain his Presidential aura during the remaining debates as Palin initiates the early stages of what will hopefully be a nuclear attack against Obama’s rotten character? And if he can, will the attacks ultimately work? I, for one, can see it working. We’ll see. Posted by: Dave in VA at October 04, 2008 06:44 PM (fQkEP) 42
Obama has plenty of money. Admittedly, I'm in Alabama where McCain should win going away, but the only presidential ads I see are for Obama, on medical coverage. Those are vague and bull-shitty but well done and will probably net quite a few votes.

Well, given that I live in a red state and BOTH of my Republican senators just decided to vote to socialize the debt of the mortgage industry I just really couldn't give less of a shit what happens anymore. I am NOT voting for either of my senators ever again. I don't care if they socialize the rest of the country because we are already so far down that road when the Republicans roll over on an issue where the facts are so strongly on their side that resistance is just futile. Barney Frank was fucking half the board of Fannie and Freddie for Christ's sake and these weak minded, limp wristed fuckers on the right side of the aisle couldn't manage to utter a word in defense of our economic liberty and the pundits on "our" side couldn't make up their feeble minds on where they were going to stand. I also think that there are a whole lot of "Republicans" who don't have the slightest idea how or why a free market works. So all I can say is we are going to get what we deserve and we are going to re-learn the lessons of the past the hard way. Palin can't overcome the democrats, the media, the entertainment industry, and the Rinos. It just isn't going to happen no matter what kind of fantasy you want to spin. If you want to know why McCain's numbers are tanking it is because he couldn't make a principled stand on an obvious winner of an issue like the bail-out or like his opponent being a terrorist symp. I am a small businessman and what I am hearing from my peers is that they have had enough of this shit and are staying home. The party sided with the socialists and with Wall Street so it is pretty clear that they aren't going to miss us. I have talked to two guys I have done business with for twenty years just last week who are threatening to shut their businesses down... not because they aren't making money but because they are tired of playing Atlas while everyone else is busy pulling the rug out from under them. One guy who served in Vietnam told me he has been investigating other countries to move to (the leader is New Zealand...WTF?!) and the other guy is just going to retire early. Who knows how much is just bluster but the small businessmen are the sergeants of the economy and when you lose the sergeants you lose the army, and ultimately, the battle. In my case it is not just an idle threat. I have seventeen employees and I hate it for them but if we have $700 billion to spend on investment bankers I am sure there is enough money to take care of my crew. It is just too demoralizing to get sold out by your own side on such a consistent basis when you don't have to. I have worked hard enough for long enough that I have enough money to take care of myself. Anyone who thinks the small business community isn't absolutely incensed by the bullshit that is the Republican party these days just hasn't been paying attention. We'll see, but right now I am either voting for Barr because I think the terrorists will force his hand on military matters or I am staying home. McCain had my vote but now he is going to have to win it all over again... and my Senators can go pound sand. John Duncan is my congressman and I haven't checked his vote yet but I think it is going to be a clean sweep. Posted by: asl at October 04, 2008 07:44 PM (r11nM) 44
