ZOMG: Barney Frank's "Partner"? An Executive at Fannie Mae

On the plus side, we're not the only ones this executive has been [deleted because you saw this joke coming six miles beyond the actual horizon, and I refuse to do the cheap stuff.].

Eh, fuck that: Barney has a Fannie buddy.

Unqualified home buyers were not the only ones who benefitted from Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank’s efforts to deregulate Fannie Mae throughout the 1990s.

So did Frank’s partner, a Fannie Mae executive at the forefront of the agency’s push to relax lending restrictions.

Now that Fannie Mae is at the epicenter of a financial meltdown that threatens the U.S. economy, some are raising new questions about Frank's relationship with Herb Moses, who was Fannie’s assistant director for product initiatives. Moses worked at the government-sponsored enterprise from 1991 to 1998, while Frank was on the House Banking Committee, which had jurisdiction over Fannie.

Both Frank and Moses assured the Wall Street Journal in 1992 that they took pains to avoid any conflicts of interest. Critics, however, remain skeptical.

"It’s absolutely a conflict," said Dan Gainor, vice president of the Business & Media Institute. "He was voting on Fannie Mae at a time when he was involved with a Fannie Mae executive. How is that not germane?

Does the fucking press do NO SCRUTINIZING OR DIGGING even into the most basic facts about Democrats whatsoever?

Why is this just coming out now? At Fox Fucking News, of course.

Why?

Why is it I fucking know the exact time Sarah Palin had amniotic fluid leakage and I'm just finding this out now?

Thanks to Christopher.

Even I find this too easy to make a joke about...

Moses left Fannie in 1998 to start his own pottery business. National Mortgage News called Moses a “mortgage guru” and said he developed “many of Fannie Mae's affordable housing and home improvement lending programs. Moses ended his relationship with Frank just months after he left Fannie.

The timing is rather interesting....

Frank met Moses in 1987, the same year he became the first openly gay member of Congress.

The article doesn't say whether Frank and Moses were an item while Frank was carrying on with the male prosty that was running the escort service from his pad. It's not particularly relevant to the financial crisis, but it's definitely good for a laugh.

The two lived together in a Washington home until they broke up in 1998, a few months after Moses ended his seven-year tenure at Fannie Mae, where he was the assistant director of product initiatives.

So, did they break up because Moses had no further use for Frank? I'm just asking questions.....

Gay Spouses In Congress Have Spousal Privileges

Gay Spouses In Congress Have Spousal Privileges

06/25/1996

WASHINGTON -- In spite of a months-long Congressional campaign to ban federal recognition of gay marriage, Congress already provides official acknowledgment to the companions of its few openly gay members, the capital magazine Washingtonian reports.

Here's what pricked up my ears....

The cards allow the men to park in official garages and move freely in and out of restricted areas. "This is to certify that the person whose name and photograph appear on the card is the spouse of the above named member of the United States House of Representatives," say the cards.
Herb Moses, Frank's companion for nine years, was the first of the three to obtain a spouse ID card. He told the Washingtonian it was done for convenience and privacy, not for some grand political ideal. "I don't feel like having to explain myself to whoever may be minding the security of the perimeter," he told Washingtonian.

Now, I really couldn't care less about who Frank's spouse is. But I'm curious as to whether this spousal access was used for lobbying in prohibited areas/situations. Does anyone know how the lobbying rules and spousal access rules stack up?

MCCAIN STRATEGY  -   Hammer at this issue, and do so in just enough of a way that militant gay activists start saying that he is being "anti-gay". Then, redouble the effort.

Force that type of despicable thinking to essentially stand up and tell the American people that, for them to be enraged about a trillion-dollar cluster fuck, is to be "anti-gay" (defacto racist).

Get the activists saying that, and they will despite themselves, and then let it be known far and wide that that is what they are saying... and then open up a full bore artillery barrage on them, no holding back.

Do it guys, you'll win. Trust me. (I know all)  =:-O

This is a SCANDAL

It needs to be talked about as such.  The words "Democratic" and "Scandal" need to start appearing in blog posts on a daily basis.

Fannie Mae just imploded, taking taxpayers money.  This is a SCANDAL

Fannie Mae Democratic executives got rich while cooking the books.  This is a SCANDAL.

Democrats FORCED banks to make loans to people who couldn't afford them.  this is a SCANDAL.

Democrats got paid to protect Fannie Mae from regulation.  This is a SCANDAL.

Barney Frank had a sexual relationship with an executive from a company that it was HIS JOB TO REGULATE... This is a SCANDAL.

The terms "Dept. of Justice" and "FBI" and "subpoena" need to start being used.

The terms "Democratic bribery" and "Democratic crimes" and "Democratic ethical violations" need to be given traffic.

If John McCain refuses to stand up and defend capitalism, the free market, Reganomics... no... let me put it in terms he should be able to understand.

It is time for John McCain to stand up and defend THIS COUNTRY from the corruption of Democrats.

Not bipartisanship first.  COUNTRY first.

Not reaching across the aisle first.  COUNTRY first.

Not "political correctness" first.  COUNTRY first.

77 Frank, 58, declined to say why the relationship was over. The split was amicable, though "recently things changed some," Frank said in the Boston Globe.

Moses, 41, recently moved out of their home and left an executive position at the Federal National Mortgage Association to open a pottery studio. The Globe said he could not be reached for comment.

In 1987 -- after allegations that he had had a relationship with Steven Gobie, a male prostitute -- Frank acknowledged his homosexuality publicly. The Massachusetts Democrat and Moses appeared inseparable for over a decade, attending White House dinners and other state functions.

Somebody needs to ask whether Barney helped Herb get his job at Fannie Mae, and why Fannie Mae fired him right after he and Barney broke up.  There is enough evidence, if anyone cares to investigate, that Fannie Mae kept Moses on the payroll only because he was shacking up with Barney.  And Barney had no problem with this.

It was well known in Washington that Fannie Mae was one of the companies most friendly to employment of gays.  Lots and lots of them in jobs at all levels.

97 It's time for a special prosecutor appointment with a charter of investigating Fannie/Freddie, HUD, and Congressional members charged with oversight of these agencies.  This should be treated as a financial Watergate.  The public would welcome an investigation and naming of names of those involved in bringing this country to the brink of financial armageddon.

Posted by: Scott Wiggins at October 03, 2008 08:20 PM (fNmM1)

98 <q>74 The right has for too long treated this as a policy debacle, which it is... but it is also something bigger, and it is time for a course change, and the Frank revelation is the perfect vehicle.

If he doesn't, then he deserves to lose.</q>

Don't hold your breath for McCain to say anything about it...

118 I hate the term "Partner".  "Partner" to me is like business partner; like they shared a desk in a business venture.  We need to come up with something less ambiguous, but not seedy-sounding like "Gay Lover".  I mean, if I talk about my wife, everybody knows what we're talking about.  We need a word like wife for gay couples.

Here's something funny:  I know all about Frank's involvement with the current crisis, and his voice makes me cringe.  I had no idea he was gay.  Don't give a shit, but it's funny that with all the so-called Racist Homophobic Sexist Right-Wing Republican Attack Blogs I read, I know all about his policies and absolutely zip about his personal life.  I've probably read it somewhere, but it didn't really register as important, and all you evil slimy bloggers...don't bother to mention it in policy discussions.

Unlike the sainted left, who can't get through a policy discussion about Sarah Palin without mentioning her va-ja-ja.

119

You ever have someone talk about their partner and you go along with the conversation and somehow get around to mentioning that you are cool with them being gay and all and they explain no, their business partner in their consulting practice?

Awkward.

Posted by: blaster at October 04, 2008 12:21 AM (KpEAZ)

120 I had a gay friend who would talk about his partner.  But he would never refer to him as his partner or by his actual name, but would, instead, always refer to him as "my black boyfriend <insert name here>" (my friend was white.)  I guess he thought that I would be 'teh shocked' by that.

It was constant.  Every chance he got, he would drop "my black boyfriend <name> this" and  "my black boyfriend <name> that."  I finally stopped him one night and said "Umm, you do know that I know that <name> is black already, right?  JUST FUCKING CALL HIM <name> then and I'll know who you mean!"

He says "You have a problem hearing that <name> is black?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr................. Yeah, idiot.  That's the problem.

Gee, if only there were term limits or him getting frogmarched off to Alcatraz or Guantamano.

Posted by: eaglewingz08 at October 04, 2008 11:45 AM (W88Qb)

128 Yeah. Like anything will be done about this. I mean we have a guy who takes bribes still in office and a guy who cheats on his taxes in charge of tax policy in office for the Democratic Party. Does anyone think this will matter in the slightest? From President Clinton on down, the Democrats have proved that if you just refuse to step down long enough, the problem goes away, particularly as the press won't lift a finger to pressure them or even spend much time covering the story. Corruption is not just acceptable, it's embraced on the left. It doesn't matter what you do as long as you have the right positions on the issues and are a Democrat.

Sorry for the pessimism but its too late for this to make a difference, The media has convinced the majority of the public that the reason we need a 700 billion dollar rescue plan is because of George Bush and those evil dastardly republicans. No amount of evidence to the contrary matters. When the fucking New York Times gets around to covering this story they'll claim that Barney and Herb never really met and only ran into each other sporadically. In the mean time Barney will continue his daily NPR appearences where he'll have soft balls lobbed at him by people who worship him and his biting wit.

I'm not a fan of Bill O.  however he did have a great comeback after  Barney  called him stupid. I'm not sure of the exact quote but basically his response was:

You just presided over the biggest economic failure in history and I'm the stupid one?
