NRCC Ad: Naming Names

More of this. More of this. Nothing but this for the next 32 days.

The election hangs on this single issue.

The public believes Republicans caused this disaster, and we'll lose based on that misperception.

The Democrats actually caused it -- but Republicans, beginning at the top off the ticket, are inexplicably shy about saying so.

More of this. More of this.

If this US News blog post is correct, then I want McCain's people to tell me so, so I can stop blogging about McCain entirely and focus on limiting the damage in Congressional races.

If McCain wants to lose the election like a good trooper -- a dutiful soldier going off to die in a no-win mission he's not even supposed to win -- he really should have informed the party of this intention during the primaries.

Thanks to someone.

10 My bottom line: The McCain campaign is underestimating how absolutely furious conservatives are that free markets, and by extension Reaganomics and the last 25 years of American economic policy, are getting the blame for the housing and credit crisis. A real morale killer, they tell me. Over and over. Every day.

Damn straight.  Good post Ace.

11 McCain's not going to go after Obama at the debate on the biggest issue of the day and tie him to corruption and a $700 billion bailout plan no one likes? He's just going to stand there and let Obama paint him as George Bush III?

25 re: the USNews piece

The campaign believes McCain's time is better spent talking about taxes and energy and healthcare. Really.

Oh boy. This is what I was afraid of: McCain taking the easy, out-of-touch approach to this election. The people want to hear more than the standard boilerplate Republican talking points of cutting taxes, freedom, and good ol' American spirit and ingenuity.

America is looking for leadership. Even though the Democrats are wrong on everything, they're providing leadership with ideas and plans. The Republicans are mute like mimes, and they have been for several years. Even the Bush admin shut it down in 2005.

The Democrats will continue to be victorious simply by being populists and addressing real-life issues. The Republicans will become a silent minority.

As soon as Palin emphasized "Wall Street greed", and not Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, I knew we were not just toast, but charred skin and bones, hair, teeth and eyeballs.

If McCain is actually afraid of being tarred as a "racist" for criticizing the reckless and fraudulent managment of a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT agency (aka GSE), then he is no longer a courageous man.

38 Check out drudge.

Unqualified home buyers were not the only ones who benefitted from Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank’s efforts to deregulate Fannie Mae throughout the 1990s.

So did Frank’s gay partner, a Fannie Mae executive at the forefront of the agency’s push to relax lending restrictions.

Now that Fannie Mae is at the epicenter of a financial meltdown that threatens the U.S. economy, some are raising new questions about Frank's relationship with Herb Moses, who was Fannie’s assistant director for product initiatives. Moses worked at the government-sponsored enterprise from 1991 to 1998, while Frank was on the House Banking Committee, which had jurisdiction over Fannie.

Both Frank and Moses assured the Wall Street Journal in 1992 that they took pains to avoid any conflicts of interest. Critics, however, remain skeptical.

"It’s absolutely a conflict," said Dan Gainor, vice president of the Business & Media Institute. "He was voting on Fannie Mae at a time when he was involved with a Fannie Mae executive. How is that not germane?

"If this had been his ex-wife and he was Republican, I would bet every penny I have - or at least what’s not in the stock market - that this would be considered germane," added Gainor, a T. Boone Pickens Fellow. "But everybody wants to avoid it because he’s gay. It’s the quintessential double standard."

A top GOP House aide agreed.

"C’mon, he writes housing and banking laws and his boyfriend is a top exec at a firm that stands to gain from those laws?" the aide told FOX News. "No media ever takes note? Imagine what would happen if Frank’s political affiliation was R instead of D? Imagine what the media would say if [GOP former] Chairman [Mike] Oxley’s wife or [GOP presidential nominee John] McCain’s wife was a top exec a

41 I let lose a rant about this in the Snopes thread earlier.  Pretty much blamed the whole thing on social conservatives whose pro-life litmus test delivered this country John McCain when it needed Rudy Guiliani or Mitt Romney to run against Obama.  That probably wasn't entirely fair since open primaries probably had a lot to do with it.  Still, I'll say it again.  I live in the midwest.  I know people of all kinds.  Republicans, Democrats, independents and right now they've got one thing in common.  They are pissed off at Wall Street but they are really pissed off at the government.  In 32 days someone is going to pay for this debacle.  If McCain doesn't use his bully pulpit to cut through the MSM noise and tell the people the truth they are going to look to the MSM to find out who is to blame.  Once they fix that blame they are going to punish someone.  This election will make conservatives pine for the glory days of the 2006 election if the Republican Party gets blamed.  Mark my words.

44 This is why we're soooooo much better off with a governor as President. You need people with executive experience in the White House not beholden to the ways of Congress. We should all face it....there's just way too much Congress in McCain for him to change his ways. He's been in the Senate with the Obamaxist for all of 3 1/2 years....hardly enough time to develop the stereotypical cordial Senate relationship he has with his other Leftist friends. He's scared, simple as that....scared to pi$$ his friends off that he has to go back and work with when he loses. If he hasn't taken the gloves off by now, he's not going to and it's a shame because if he loses without a fight, I will blame him singularly for allowing this country to elect a 'Chairman' who will destroy this country. Country first, McCain, country first, dammit!!!! Take the gloves off and use every available weapon to win this war!!!! Call Obama out on Ayers, CAC, Wright, Farrakhan, ACORN, Alinsky, Rezko, Freddie/Fannie, national civilian defense force, increased taxes, eco-marxism, etc.. Fight, McCain, fight!!!! Have faith.  McCain will make good use of this issue.  It fits in perfectly with his themes.

Washington is broken.  "My friends, this is what I mean when I say that Washington is broken."

I will name names.  I will make you famous.  "I'll start doing that even before I take office.  Barney Frank.  Chris Dodd.  Maxine Waters.  Frank Raines.  ACORN & Obama."

Country First/Miss Congeniality.  "It is true that some of those who were responsible for this mess are collegues of mine.  It's never easy to point out the mistakes of friends and collegues, and I'm certain that my doing so will not make those who helped caused this mess very happy.  But I am not running for Miss Congeniality.  Country is more important than popularity among peers."

Lets face it folks, McCain has never been worth a shit. The only reason I started supporting him in this campaign was he nominated Sarah Palin. My reason for not supporting him was that he was a stupid GD liberal trying to disguise himself as a Repug. I figured we were destroying the country as long as we allowed the Republican Party to continue to move itself left in chasing that last undecided fuckwad who couldn’t make up his mind until he pulled the lever. My thought was that the Repugs needed to ose to learn that conservatives were not to be taken for granted the way the Dems take blacks for granted.

Well he nominated Sarah Palin. My thought was that perhaps the Repugs didn’t need a lesson in humility because here we would have a real conservative in 2012 and the party would no longer continue to drift left.   But….

If he is going to continue to throw the election trying to “be nice” all he will be doing is throwing Sarah Palin under the bus and ruining her chances for the future.  Let us hope that he is going to CHANGE and start fighting this election.

And for all you people who think I am some kind of far right religious conservative, I am not. I am more libertarian than anything, I had planned on voting for Bob Barr except he said Kennedy was his favorite SC judge. So he is fucked.

Yes, that is the real enemy for the next month. It's a fight against the MSM from here on out, not even really a fight with Obastard. So much stuff is available to sink Barry, but it has to get past the MSM filter. The dinosaur media knows its days are numbered, and they know this is a fight to the death. If they win, they can roll back freedom of speech by nickels and dimes... until they have restored their regency.

57 Palin doesn't talk about Freddie/Fannie because McCain doesn't talk about it. She can joke about ANWR, but she is not going to cross the campaign on their major issue.

This campaign belongs to McCain. Sarah has done all that could be expected. In 5 weeks, she has united the base, taken more slings and arrows than an army should have taken, and beat Biden after being screwed over by the handlers.

Now McCain either changes his message or we all lose. Energy, corruption, stupidity. Either call them out, or it's over.

I didn't read this entire thread, so excuse me if someone else touched on this. Well, actually, Ace touched on with his "dutiful soldier" line, but I wonder if those years in the Hanoi Hilton didn't make McCain TOO diplomatic. Maybe TOO hesitant to push back. Maybe those years in Hanoi forever stuck him on the high road and he just can't bring himself down into the muck. To wrestle with the pigs in lipstick, as it were. Maybe the one event that defined his entire life left him, ironically, unable to shape the next event that could re-define his life.

I am in awe with respect for what McCain went through in Hanoi, and I'm a pimple on a frogs ass in comparison, but I wonder if maybe it made him just a little too tolerant of the enemy. (In this case, the Dems.)

69 At the risk of being an annoying commenter from overseas.. : What exactly is the going on with the US media?

In England, newspapers regularly nail politicians for their lies (even if sometimes the politicians get away with it. At other times, their career can be finished if the lie is big enough). It keeps politicians honest, or on their toes anyway, and provides sport for the journalists. Catching a politician in a blatant lie is both serving the truth, and 'sensational' ie. it sells in the infotainment marketplace.

Does this marketing model not apply in the US?

Or is it the case that the majority of American people are not fooled by the spin and fury of the MSM, and and will casually and coolly pull the right lever when voting day comes? (This is my assumption, by the way).

I perhaps overpraise England's media, but there's something wrong with the US's at the moment. (Yes we can get the main channels on cable/satellite here).

Having said that, I'm becoming convinced that Mrs. Palin is the Terminator from T2, so perhaps I need to disengage for a little while and just .. relax.

A while back, I saw him get choked up when people were talking about defining torture for prisoners at Gitmo (I think) and while I understood why that issue would be a very difficult one for him personally, I thought his emotional reaction made him look weak, and I don't want to see a president looking weak when he should at least appear to be tough.

72 "If McCain wants to lose the election like a good trooper -- a dutiful soldier going off to die in a no-win mission he's not even supposed to win -- he really should have informed the party of this intention during the primaries."

That's the bottom line.  I'm still asking to this day, how the heck did he get the nomination?  His campaign was on life support and read last rites last December.  WTH happened there?

***

If I were a political strategist, and someone came to me asking for me to strategize their campaign, I'd ask the single most important questions there are:

1) Why do you want to run for office?
2) Do you want to win?

If I hear "I want to run an honorable campaign" coming from that mouth, I would consider the interview over and the client lost.  There's no such thing as an "honorable campaign" nowadays.  People who go into politics running for the sake of "honor" are those who become the political martyrs.  Well-liked, but we needed the sacrificial lambs to satisfy our political hunger.  (See Bob Dole.)

If you want to WIN, you would do anything, short of selling your own soul for eternity, in order to get what you want.  You would listen to my advice, you would do anything I say, and you will follow through until the very last vote is counted.  Once the election is over, whether you win or lose, I will give you your very own post-mortem report.

Why the heck did you lose this one?  What part of my advice did you not take?  Where could you have improved?

Or,

Why did you win?  Do you know how to keep that coalition you formed to give you that office?  What are you planning to do to keep them content, and you in your new office?  Are you still willing to do anything to remain the winner?

74 what I'm tring to say: Obama and Biden should have been toast by now.

It goes back to the 60s.  The radicals who could not achieve their objectives by working against teh system are now the system.  Scumbags like Ayers became college professors so they could brainwash the next generation and no one seems to care, because those who hire them are just as bad.

And since they all now have the same exact point of view, to step outside of that groupthink would get them uninvited to the parties that are thrown by those wonderful actors they love so much.  And we just can't have that, can we?

It is pretty scary when you think about just how much influence these rat bastards have.

o.u. -

Our media perform that same role - half of the time.  When a conservative lies, it is indeed reported.  Not only reported but in such a way as to maximize the effect.

When a liberal lies, it goes unreported.  Or the media defend the lie as an innocent slip of the tongue.  Or they attack the person pointing out the lie.  Or they just simply justify the lie.

Here, the media has chosen sides, and has become a propaganda arm of the liberals.  Sad, but true.

92 If the NRCC is running something like this now, it's a start, a move in the right direction, though it needs to be on TV as well as YouTube.  A step up from them is the RNC, which still has TONS of cash on hand for October.  Even if McCain himself doesn't do what he should, hopefully the RNC will plaster the airwaves with this stuff.

Get off your high horses and quit whipping McCain. You don't like what he's doing? Tell HIM. This election is more important than the candidate, it's about the justices and the country and the damage we would sustain in an O administration.

Tell the story, name the names. Even if The Mav does tell it, he needs your help to get it across. Contact the RNC and get their money behind it. If you are in a key state, contact the local campaign or party organization and ask them how you can get this message out.

I was only going to vote for McCain if he picked the right running mate. He had a great pick. I donated money to his campaign after the Palin pick and was thinking of going to a battleground state to work the last week of the election. But his lack of fight in the first debate and his voting for the bailout despite his hammering on pork have made me want to just give up on him. If he's not going to fight for me, then why should I for him? He could have voted against the porked up bill and claimed to have stood up against waste and being a friend of the taxpayer. Pssst John.... It would have passed without you. But he failed to handle this crisis yet again.

If the donks had anything on a GOPer don't you think we would be having hearing after hearing on capitol hill? We've just had a fraud in FM / FM a couple of times the size of  the Enron collapse, but not a single hearing on it? Didn't the donks haul the oil CEOs into hearings 2 or 3 times this summer over gas prices? But cannot manage an inquest for a fraud this size?

Geez John could you at least call for hearings into the meltdown / fraud in FM? Threaten to embarass the stooges on the housing committee? and banking committee?

104 I just sent Sen. McCain an email. I know he'll never see it, but iut made me feel better. Not the most eloquent thing I've ever written, but it's from the heart "Dear Sen. McCain, I don't know why you refuse to expose the Democrats in Congress for creating the conditions that lead to the Freddy-Fanny mess we are now in, but I urge you to reconsider your strategy. People are truly pissed off and want someone to blame for this. This is OUR money that is being used for this bailout, and we have a right to know who is responsible for it. Your refusal to engage the Democrats on this is akin to admitting that they are right when they say that Reagan, Bush and you are to blame. They are burying you and your campaign on this issue at the moment. Unless you fight back hard, you will lose. Every time I hear you blame "Wall Street Greed" for this mess, my blood boils. You know better than that. Get out there and fight for us. That's what Republicans are supposed to do. We don't want to to get along with Democrats and liberals, we want you to fight them. Now would be a nice time to start."

108 Jim, I appreciate your perspective, but let me elucidate some of this stuff...

"We're fighting for liberty, self-reliance and prosperity at the time in our history when they are most under threat. There is no time for resentment, anger, whining and other assorted BS. This is not about McCain."

Absolutely, it's NOT about McCain, but it IS about having an effective mouthpiece for the movement.  Right now, McCain isn't doing his job.

"The threat to the American experiment has grown severe. We are in danger of sliding into a very bad political system."

That danger is only exacerbated by not having a clear, hard hitting message.  Sure, McCain doesn't CONTROL the message (ie -- SVT controlled it for GWB four years ago), but he's the most visible actor at the moment.  This WOULDN'T be the case if Sarah had been out and throwing punches from day one after the convention; if she effectively wrote the narrative (but, as we've seen, they kept her like farmers keep mushrooms).

Sarah, or a 527, or the RNC, can still clarify the message, we don't need Jmac to do it, but it would be nice if he got the fuck out of the country club.

" There is no moping, second-guessing or getting our panties in a wad. Besides that, McCain is a hero, a decent gentleman, a public servant who nailed the surge/troop levels when it was uncool, and who blew the whistle on Fannie years ago."

Sure, but if he can't sell himself, his story and his track record while he has the national attention, then something has to change or he's going to lose.  Right now, The One runs the narrative and credits himself for whistleblowing FM/FM and promoting the surge.  We all know how vapid and intellectually dishonest that is, along with the rest of O's campaign, but...

FACTS. DON'T. MATTER.  for the other side.  Time to BE in this hacks' OODA loop.  Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.  O's moves are pretty transparent, all of this stuff can be easily countered with some good advisors and a quality mouthpiece.

" Sarah Palin is on the scene. Don't let her down when she's out there busting a morning-in-America groove under heavy fire from assorted assholes. Fuck the goddam whining! Go stuff, envelopes, go door-to-door, make calls or give big dough."

True, get involved, people!
