Time Poll: Women Dig Obama

All the caveats about polls should be assumed here but it is within line with the trend back to Obama.

Overall they have Obama leading McCain 50-43 but there's been a big shift in women voters.

Among the poll's most dramatic findings: McCain is losing female voters faster than Sarah Palin attracted them after the Republican convention. Obama leads McCain by 17 points with women, 55%-38%. Before the conventions, women preferred Obama by a margin of 10 points, 49%-39%. After McCain picked Palin as his running mate, the gap narrowed to a virtual tie, with Obama holding a one point margin, 48%-47%.

Apparently PUMA rage has spent itself.

I think we'll know if McCain is getting spooked if he does something extra-mavericky. I'm not sure what's left other than announcing that he's leaving the Republican party to become an independent but I'm sure he'll think of something if it comes to that.

The Democratic Party is the mommy party, so it figures.

The Republican Party used to be the daddy party; now it's the drunk uncle party.

Americans are, in either case, acting and thinking like children.

See today's column by George Will in the Washington Post. Yeah, I know, many if not most of you morons dislike him. But today he goes after the American electorate, and he happens to be right.

Posted by: Steve (aka Ed Snate) at October 01, 2008 12:29 PM (7X7SP)

2 That explains the poll swings. Women are more spooked than men by this financial mess, and reflexively turn to the government for help, which means voting socialist.

If McCain is just Obama-light on economics, he'll lose big time. He has to differentiate himself more.

6 If the current swing to Obama is from women who swung to McCain after the  Palin pick, that's good news. It means that a strong debate showing from Palin could get them to swing back and that these are some pretty fickle, exciteable voters.

8 I'm not PA Rep and I don't know who is ahead, nor at this point do I much care.  But with Time  ( Koran in the toilet, The media is going to make a difference of about fifteen points etc. etc.) one would be well served to check the internals.  I'm not asking you to go to the wall for McCain or any one else.  I'm asking you to be just a little less gullible where the MSM is concerned.  I think they've earned that.  Your mileage may vary.

13 I don't know if McCain's having delivered a pro-bailout speech on the stump today that was rhetorically and philosophically indistinguishable from the one Obama gave is "extra-mavericky," but he did it. You know the one he whips out every few weeks about how we're all greedy unpatriotic fucks (except for his fellow Senators, and their campaign contributors, to whom he's shepherding a battleship full of our money) if we don't shut up and take it in the hole of his choosing? That one. He didn't call us racists today, though. But you know he knows we are.

It doesn't matter what any polls say now. McCain stood on a stage at the debate and rallied against earmarks for a half and hour. It's the cornerstone of his campaign, the mav in his maverick. He now says he will support a bill with more pork in it than Ms. Piggy. He's toast, expect him to go down by double digits within 3 days. Obama will win in a landslide.

Paul, the debate will mean little to women if Palin doesn't address the disinformation campaign. I read a letter today, in my local paper, defending Palin and saying they agreed with her stand against birth-control. If even the people who support her buy that left's talking points she can't be the wind beneath McCain's wings.

Posted by: kidney at October 01, 2008 12:41 PM (mPhH9)

17

Eh... whatever. The economy went in shock and the traditional knee-jerk reaction is for Dems to gain a few points during times of economic uncertainty. Obama got lucky with an unexpected convention-like bounce.

The Polls that were taken during the bailout talk and immediately after will be the worst of the season, but they'll creep back up.

Palin needs to hold her own tomorrow night and get a few jabs in, which with the low expectations the media have foolishly set for her, will be easy.

Then what McCain needs to do is keep on pushing on what really happened concerning the reasons for the bailout being necessary to the American people, so that once the knee jerk reaction is over, the bounce goes the other way. The national polls coming out this time next week will be much better.

Posted by: Lee at October 01, 2008 12:45 PM (TxTIh)

18 Rocks has a point, but I think it is a tad over stated.  Obama isn't much of an alternative, but make no mistake McCain's support of this bailout hurts him much worse than it does Obama.
And as far as Palin fighting the misinformation campign,  that should be the right leaning medias job.  But they've chosen instead to help the misinformatin campign along.  Republicans don't need better candidates any more than they need a better media.

A few days ago I was cautiously leaning toward supporting some sort of bailout, swiftly implemented. But then I saw the earmarks. If Congress can insert all those earmarks--well, I want to be careful about any bailout. If that means taking time to deliberate, so be it. And I'm not convinced that catastrophe will ensue if we don't do something quickly.

40 What we are seeing here is female backlash against Palin, a woman's woman, for making them feel insecure about their own sagging figures, prospects, dreams, aspirations. No woman is threatened by Hillary, because no woman's husband or boyfriend would fuck Hillary with someone else's dick and Bill pushing.

Here's what you need to do, Lady Palin-haters. Hit the gym. Get a make-over. Send the kids to Grandma's. Greet your old man at the door holding a cocktail and wearing nothing but heels and smile. Guaranteed you feel better about yourself and about Palin.

42 Careful Sue,
Until I see the polls internals I'm not certain of any thing.  It is damn hard to poll.  Harder still when the economy is struggling.  Even harder than that when the media folk that are paying for the damned thing have gone completely in the tank.  We'll see.  Be of good cheer keep working.  At the end of the day I still think McCain wins.  But his stand on the bail out hurts him worse than Obama.  It just does.
But then the entire Republican power structure pundits, and politicos seemed to have gone into this determined to take a leak on their base.  I understand why coffee house Republicans like Allah would do that.  They pretty much hate most Republicans anyway.  I don't know why elected officials have done it.  Some Republican operatives prowl this site occasionally.  I wish they would explain what the Hell they've been thinking.  Did they just get lousy advice.  Are they this rotten at what they do?

We'll take money and food off the table of those who didn't fuck around and are raising thier families so that dumb cum-dumpsters can live with out consequences.

61 Careful Brown Line,

I'm not saying you're not right.  I'm saying that you need to look a the internals of this poll if you can find them.  The press right now is publishing and paying for a lot of stuff that is designed to create a certain effect not reflect what is going on.  Poll could be spot on.  Could be straight up and be an outlier.  Or the internals could be screwed inside out. If Time is involved there is no way to tell for sure until you see what they've been up to.  And even if the internals are pretty straight up there is still a pretty good posssiblity that what you're seeing is a temporary reaction to the panic that the press (and a lot of sort of slow witted Republicans) have worked very hard to stir up the past couple of days.  Keep working, be of good cheer.  Don't condemn the rest of the country until after the election.

68 Sarah,

I think you may have a point, but until some one gets their hands on the poll's internals we won't know for sure.  Hopefully someone will.  Even at that...What I fear I'm seeing here is a total break down in press ethics.  I think now they're even lying about the stuff they know we'll catch them lying about.  I don't think they care any more.  IP seems to think that the press figures this is thier last hurrah and is willing to kamikaze to win it.  I think he's right.  I don't think it will be enough a the end.
That doesn't measn McCain doesn't have trouble.  Supporting the bail out especially the way he's supported it has been a big error, and the Republican press has been so craven before the MSM that even garden slugs look upon it with deep and mournful contempt now.  Still I suspect that at the end of the day McCain wins.  The sort of concerted dishonesty the press is engaged in right now always falls apart sooner or later.  I'm betting sooner.  Could I be worng?  Sure.  We'll see.

69 Dumb ass people shouldn't be allowed to vote.

I recently suggested, at the Hostages, that we should have everyone who wants to vote take a small test, to determine their basic understanding of current events, the Constitution and how our government works.

Everyone still gets to vote, but the votes of those who score at or above the average score get counted for their selected candidate and the votes of those who score below the average score are counted against the candidate for whom they are cast.

72 Yakov Smirnov, the Constitution has not changed, the desire for the end of liberty by commie-lib Dems (the Soro-owned Juan A. McVain's BEST buddies)hasn't changed, and my personal principles(daily screwed up the ass by the RINO Party) hasn't changed since 2000. Unfortunately, the tired line I've been hearing as the reason to keep voting for traitors to Constitutional conservatism, "If you don't vote for the RINO traitor, the commie-lib Dem traitor will win" apparently hasn't changed either.

I am a conservative, Juan is a flaming faux Republican, which means that he, and the RINO Party don't get my vote.

80 No doubt McCain has handled the bail out badly.  But like I said  Obama presents no alternative there.  It's a screw up he might get by with.  As far as taking Plain down with him...don't count on that.  The press along with a great deal of the conservative press has been digging her grave since she was picked.  If her career suffers it will be because Right leaning Pundits and one or two right leaning bloggers decided it had to be that way to keep them popular with their journalist friends.  Win or lose te Repubs need to rebuild their media effort after this elecion.  They should start by letting every one currently involved in it go.

Even at that...What I fear I'm seeing here is a total break down in press ethics.

Ditto. It's not a case of folks in the elite media trying to be objective but showing bias due to the East Coast bubble they live in. Now they're actively pursuing an elective end, and will bend any rule they can get away with to do so.

Bias may actually be too kind a word.

not publishign the internals is fishy to say the least.

the MSM made Bush's approval ratings bad starting in 2005 with way out of weight polls which they turned around and made huge stories out of.  The purpose:  To popularize the notion of turning against Bush, which eventually lead to real decline as it was mainstreamed.

maybe they are trying to popularize the notion of voting Obama too.  If not that, set up a "America is Racist and lied to the pollsters" if Obama loses

Well, I'm a woman and I don't "dig" Obama.  I don't "dig" any politician (didn't know "digging" someone was a very stable way of picking and choosing political personages to support).  In fact, I haven't "dug" anyone since high school -- grew up out of the Jan and Marsha Brady phase around 16, when I got a more responsible job than mowing lawns and had to start paying for most things with my own money; really hit home when I joined the service and really didn't have a momma or a pappa.

Right now I'm conflicted about voting, but one thing I know for sure is I won't be helping the Great O get into office.  My conscience tells me that would be a bad thing.  If that means voting for what I consider the lesser of two evils, so be it -- life sucks and you don't always get what you want.

I'm pretty damn disgusted with some of the crap on this though:  this has to be a poll with a lot of young women (you know, because they're really stupid and only think with their poontangs) -- gee, I'd like to tell that to my two daughters who are in the Army and serving their country (a country that apperantly spawns broke ass, limp dicks who think young women like them all "dig" Obama because, you know, they're stupid and have hot crotches for them) -- oh, and if you haven't guessed, no, they don't like O at all, don't like McCain either but "lesser of two evils" time as they see it too (they don't whine about not getting what they want).  Let's see, what else -- oh, Sue, STFU, if you're a woman you must be a dolt -- every woman is a fickle idiot?  Got news kiddies, appears as though there are a lot of men who are being damn fickle idiots this election cycle, who are easily scared and swayed by empty rhetoric -- where's the talk of men being too stupid and fickle, better take away their vote?  Or how about telling men -- well you know if you'd just get off your lazy, fat asses and workout, try being attractive to your long suffering female partners, then maybe they wouldn't be going for O because he's so fuckable (and you're not?).

I'm sure some of the dumbfuck comments on this post would go a long way to helping out the O-cause -- be a great tool for someone like Kos or DU to use on undecided and/or independent women.  Really makes the conservative/Republicans look good.

So cheers to you buddy-fuckers!

PM -- I'd be the first to say (and have said before) that a lot of women in this country think and act like gaggling twits, and that it's pretty damn sad that they are allowed, if not encouraged to be so (personally I blame modern feminism; I also blame a certain segment of the male population that doesn't have a problem with, even likes, women acting like weak bimbos because it makes them feel -- manly I guess, JFC!).

However, dumb assed remarks that paint an entire gender (or race or whatever) as such are just as stupid, narrow, and alienating (and in the end do a lot of harm -- why do you think there are folks buying into the Great Unifier crap? or the shift away by some women?  a hint: dolts going around trumpeting how fuckable sPalin is, and getting some jolly old digs at other women (and how skanky/fugly, fat/shrewish/ younameit they are, or how women aren't "real women" anymore or whatever) will not help to court the female vote.  Yep, supporting Sarah Palin turned into a free for all "I'd like to fuck her -- too bad you other bitches can't be like that" locker room party for quite a few, and the opposing team picked up that fumble and ran with it, possibly for  the game winner.  Thanks to some "englightened" comments such as that (and here) the other side has done a good job of smearing the Palin pick as gross pandering and painted the poor woman herself as some sort of dumb, chesty, slut who stabs other women in the back so she's more popular with the boys (don't believe me, take a good look at what the MSM and the blogs have been saying since her announcement).

That isn't going to go over well with a lot of women on so many levels.

And some of you just compound the problem with "yeah, those young girls...", or "those dumb women, they're just jealous, or, they only dig Obama because they fantasize about getting it from Mandingo" -- or you, Mr. Wiserbud (no, I'm not on my period dipshit -- not everything's about bein' on the rag for us dumb little cluckies dontcha know.) Truth be known, I'm a pretty patient person, but even patient people can reach a limit to what they'll put up with; your comment rests my case.  Thanks for the great example of what I'm talking about.

Take a good look in the mirror some of you -- you've moaned like a bunch of pussies with every down turn and screamed about giving up, gloated like a bunch of corn fed pigs with everything you thought was going your way, didn't hesitate to be obnoxious or care if you alienated people if they didn't see things the exact way you did, blamed other people for the very crimes you were guilty of yourselves (like being gloating, obnoxious, narrowminded shits), and then you wonder why things aren't going the way you want them to.  You've played right into the hands of the Great O and his O-army; they point to you and some of your comments and tell people that's why they should be afraid of Conservatives and Republicans (and hell, even white, heterosexual men) -- and looking at a cherry picked version of some of this crap, a sane person just might come to the conclusion that they're right, can't you bloody well see that? internet sites aren't private clubs! Which means, if we end up in six months with our kids (and I still have kids in school, so this is important to me) singing songs  like the ones on that videotape you better be ready to acknowledge your own responsiblity for it.

114 Women have always gone for the guy who celebrities and media people fawn over, thinking "that's the Alpha Male."

It worked with JFK, and has been the model for Democrats ever since, get the Women's vote by pretending to be the Alpha Male. Remember Naomi Wolfe? Earth Tones.

All these celebrities worship Obama, so women think (in aggregate) that Obama is the ultimate Alpha Male. Same thing with Clinton. It's why Celebrities matter ... the more that they fawn over a candidate, the more women flock to him.

Who forms the basis for the View, Oprah, Astrology, Psychics, Celeb Gossip sites and magazines, etc? It's not men.

Palin has been successfully defined by Katie and the rest of the Media as a "low-class" woman who is not "cool enough" while "hip/edgy" Obama is the dream. That was always the danger with Palin. Since few knew her ... the media could swiftly define her as "trailer trash" and make women run away from her, which they have. No one follows fashion like Women.

Of course, the flip side is the male part of the gender gap. While women have a demographic edge, men HATE Oprah and the View. Regardless of politics. The more Obama becomes the female candidate the more he loses men.

PA? Out of reach -- fraud in Philly.
