UPDATE #3 now. Sheesh.Bumped and UPDATED AGAIN. I Recommend Everyone Start Drinking Heavily

First thing on a Sunday morning? Yep.

When Chris Dodd and Barney Frank are guffawing, clapping each other on the back and grinning ear to ear, well. What do you suppose that means?

Exactly. Pour me one, too.

In comments to a Kat-Mo post below, Christoph points us to this charming video, which is good for sending another shiver down your spine.

****UPDATE****
***If you can't get the video to load, I've put a youtube copy under the jump.***

Observe how happy the media and law enforcement officers are to assist Obama's campaign in making tacit threats to the public in general and McCain supporters in particular. Note the little O campaign sticker in the window behind the people being, erm, 'interviewed,' for lack of a better word. They had to make sure that showed, since this is all really just a campaign commercial.

And look at how chirpy and uninquisitive the newsmen are in that video.

How can you be a journalist and have no follow-up questions for public employees who call themselves 'The Truth Squad?'

Wouldn't a journalist pretty much think that's HIS job?
This curious lack of interest signals to me that the media doesn't mind if the State becomes the dispenser of truth in Obamaland.

The Truth Squad is obviously a device specifically designed to stifle any criticism of Captain Bullshit through the threat of legal harassment. The explicit message is to shut up. The implicit message is that there is a state organ (a team of county prosecutors and sheriffs!) devoted to making sure you shut up.

This is what 'a chill wind' really feels like.

Allah posts
part of the Governor of Missouri's response.

UPDATE #2: From Jo Mannies at STLToday:

...both sides have “Truth Squads” in numerous states, under numerous titles. McCain’s campaign has an Honest and Open Election Committee, whose Missouri members include former Sen. John Danforth and U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson...

Obama’s national campaign manager David Plouffe said Saturday that Truth Squads simply monitor attacks and refute them.

Later, state communications director Debbie Mesloh issued a statement that called it “the height of absurdity” for the GOP to contend that the Obama squad planned to go to court or jail critics.

The very fact that all of the Truth Squad members who were mentioned in the original piece are law enforcement officers is I think what gives most people the willies.

I leave it to the reader to draw his own conclusion; was the news piece simply a piece of shoddy work that misled the viewer, or was the threatening tone intentional?

Obama's campaign experiences a lot of these episodes where he seems to imply something shitty then turns around and disavows it.

Flipping the bird at Hillary by scratching his face. "Lipstick on a pig." He has "a funny name" and he "doesn't look like" the portraits on money.

On the other hand, If you've ever been the subject of a news article or even just quoted in the paper, you know how amazingly inept reporters can be at conveying the basic friggin' details of a story.

Again, I leave it to you.

Third and final UPDATE: Eddiebear in STL has some local flavor to add to the story, and an appeal to the local media that you can help with.

Thanks, everybody.

2 Awesome!

Just the other day I was telling my wife,

"Wouldn't it be cool if somehow, here in modern day America, we could scrap this whole representative democracy thing and live in society that combines the best of reign of Caligula with Stalin's purges?'

And now it looks like my wish may come true!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Thanks, Obama!

Then I remembered why I stopped watching local news years ago...video press releases with a smile.

Remember the bracelet that Obama wore at the debate?

Turns out the parents of the fallen soldier have asked him to stop wearing it, but he's pretty much telling them to go pound sand.

9 The one thing that jumped out at me from the (very few) news articles on this is that in all the dozens of paragraphs of each story, I've seen a shitload of (D)s quoted and pretty much zero (R)s. It's as if nobody in the GOP even knows what's in this draft yet.

Of course, I heard some of the good folks from Arkansas warned the same things a good while back, and nobody wanted to listen.

The Obama folks have a VERY large organization, part of their Truth Squad. that is exclusively dedicated to watching for blog entries that appear anywhere that are about Sarah Palin. Once spotted, they leave nasty comments and IM others in the group to come "pile on".  It's going to get worse - they attack and attempt to silence freedom of speech on a daily basis.

It's shocking to watch the Democrats morph into an organization that copies, almost verbatim, tactics from the National Socialism playbook. Sadly, most Americans have no idea of what that means, nor do most other people recognize what is going on. These Democratic National Socialists will do "anything necessary to save humanity from the evil Sarah Palin (and "The Jews"), and to that end, anything they do is justified."

To the people in this new incarnation of the NSDAP, well, to Democrats, Sarah Palin represents their personal version of Dietrich Bonhoeffer - and they'd prefer to get the hanging over just as quickly as they can.  Can't have people like her be setting such "bad examples" you know....

Our educational system and our national media have been compromised, the vast majority of the print and television networks are under their control.  They now control what someone learns, how they learn it, what gets presented as "truth" in the media, and how it is presented.  They've started manufacturing outright lies and propaganda pieces and then present them as "objective news" reporting.  They've started doing their own "educational camps.:  Is there no one left  to "watch the watchers"?

The Democrats have truly morphed into National Socalists, in every sense of what that means:

    * Deviating from social norms - their actions against Sarah Palin, for example.
    * Playing purely Ideological politics - check
    * Doing anything necessary to "Save Humanity" from Sarah Palin, and anything justifies doing it.
    * Contradictory promises - (95% of you will see a tax cut)
    * Being governing "elites", that pomise to represent "the middle working class"
    * Playing social, religious, and racial "games" for their own advantage.
    * Controlling what you think, by influencing what you can say, read, and see in the media
    * "Fixing" America so it can be "competitive in world markets"

I could easily go on and on, but I'm certain you know enough examples of all of these behaviors on the part of the Democrats without me needing to point out examples.

God Help us all - right under our very noses the National Socialist Party, reincarnated as the New Democratic "Hope and Change" party, lives and breathes right here, right now in America.  Once again consummate evil has begun walking the earth, and no one is even noticing it as it happens...

The NRA will take them on.  I think they file a federal civil rights lawsuit for intimidation and demand and injunction against the O's people.

It would at least force the MSM to cover the issue, even if the suit failed.  Shop for a good judge, do it!

29 This may seem ot, but it's another example of Dem Truth Squadding: when Gore called for civil disobedience to prevent new coal plants, he also dropped this little bomb, that most people missed:

"I believe for a carbon company to spend money convincing the stock-buying public that the risk from the global climate crisis is not that great represents a form of stock fraud because they are misrepresenting a material fact," he said. "I hope these state attorney generals around the country will take some action on that."

These people want to criminalize any opinions, policies or scientific studies with which they disagree. We can't let them win.

44 I posted this on the new site but it didn't get posted here.

They stated they are going to target those who violate Missouri state ethics laws. However, the state ethics laws pertain to conflict of interest, lobbying, and campaign finance disclosures. There is no criminal libel statute in Missouri, either. So, it is all bogus and only designed to intimidate and to get free publicity for Obama by implying that people and ads are lying about the messiah. That they did by using their position as government attys and law enforcement is what is unethical and may violate civil service and state bar rules.

Morons.  You know that defeating Obama is impossible. Everyone who is anyone has been saying so since; fuck, it seems since Jesus did some bootlegging.  Yes Obama's big pile of money buys him gangs of willing thugs.  Digital and otherwise. Yes, we get to eat a bailout (but at least no ACORNS!) and get blamed for it. Yes, the polls currently suck. As expected. Yes, vile hate is now mainstream.   Who would be stupid enough to think they could stop that?

Only morons who bitterly cling to outmoded notions of governence and honor.

It is a fact that nothing is over until Election Day.

What to do?  I resist the irresistible in my happy moronic way. Things like supporting McCain in political conversations. Not laughing at sexist Palin jokes. Donations of course. But then I am a moron who fills like one trying to fill a bucket with a strainer. Impossible they say.  Fuck you, I say.

We have scared Obama once (Palin!). Whenever we can we are happy to smack Obama 'cause, well he’s Obama.  Let’s keep enjoying doing just that.  Even if that doesn’t win the election, it is still damn fun to enjoy the different, creative ways that Ace and his posters/commenters do that political mockery.  And laughter is best in grim times.

Update:  I leave it to the reader to draw his own conclusion.

O.K.  Lemme get this straight.  Both campaigns have "Truth Squads" (except McCain doesn't call his a "Truth Squad").

McCain has some Missouri politicians like former Sen. Danforth and Rep. Emerson. (not very intimidating).

Obama has a St. Louis Circuit Attorney, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney and the Jefferson County Sheriff. (epic intimidation).

McCain sends a U.S. Representative, Obama sends a County Sheriff.

McCain sends a former U.S. Senator, Obama sends the District Attorney.

It's the Obama way.

Posted by: SlaveDog at September 28, 2008 03:36 PM (6Gy0q)

56 Regarding the update, it's true that both campaigns have "truth squads" who're on the lookout to counteract false smears. Fro example, McCain has a truth squad of former POWs who speak out against that Manchurian candidate bullshit whenever it pops up.

As as I know though, McCain's campaign has not:

1. threatened a Dem 501c4 with the DoJ, as Obama's campaign did to AIP.

2. Threatened the FCC licenses of broadcasters who carry a specific ad, as Obama's campaign has done.

3. Rounded up a bunch of LEO's to threaten libel prosecutions, as Obama's campaign has done.

Jennifer Joyce from the city, Bob McCulllough, StL.Co. prosecuting atty, they will be reminding voters that BO is a Christian who wants to cut taxes for any one making less than 250k a year, they also say that they plan to respond immediately to anynay ads or statements that might violate MO ethics laws.

Jennifer Joyce St. Louis Circuit Attorney Atty: We want to keep this campaign focused on issues. We don’t want people to get distracted and Missourians don’t want to get distracted by divisive character attacks. So we are here to respond to any char. attack and set the record straight.

Robert P. McCullouch, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney: Whether directly attributed to campaign or to one of the soft money operations, if they are not going to tell the truth then somebody has to step up and say wait a minute - that’s not true - this is the truth.

John Mills, Reporter: Now Obama campaign tells News 4 that others - prosecutors and sheriffs are part of the team, including some from the Kansas City area, rural parts of MO are also told the truth squad is expected to include Jefferson Co. Sheriff Glenn Boyd.

64 Re #34 Looking Glass - Thanks for reminding me about that post over on Newspaper Death Watch. I'd meant to comment on it but forgot until you refreshed my memory. Here's what I just posted there:

No, Kevin, you're far from the only one that noticed. I was shocked when I originally read this post on Friday, but I was using an iPhone (which these days crashes every 2 minutes or so whenever Safari is running) so I wasn't much inclined to try to bang out my thoughts at the time. Now that Looking Glass mentioned it again over on acr.mu.nu, I was reminded to return and say something about it.

First, I'm a bit saddened that Mr. Gillin posted it without even noting in passing the mindboggling level of bias it entails (and let's face it, Rosen's bias deserves at least an entire post of its own, particularly on a blog where the very subject is what's killing newspapers). I hope Gillin at least noticed it himself, even though he didn't reference it, because there's just no getting around the fact that as long as you're intentionally alienating anywhere between 25 - 75% of your audience (depending on the location of the newspaper), you're risking failure no matter how else you fight for survival.

Second (and on this, those of us appalled by Rosen's actions can thankfully smile), his attempt to generate slanted coverage appears to have been a massive bomb. I am a hardcore Twitter fanatic, with a lot of links to lots of other Twitterers in journalism, and I'd never even HEARD of "#spinewatch" until Gillin made this post on Friday. Then I looked at Outing's blog post and immediately noticed that it had been made two weeks ago. So I did some poking around on all the various posts tagged #spinewatch, and pretty much saw nothing I hadn't already seen a million times on various liberal blogs. No new data, or even new rumors. Much of it isn't even news (Letterman's attacks on McCain, etc.). And there's not even much of that ... after an initial flurry of activity, #spinewatch posts are now coming along at the rate of only a few per day. Assuming anyone truly relevant in the MSM is  even following the #spinewatch tag, they aren't even being told anything they're not already aware of. As such, the only possible influence Rosen's "initiative" could have is to make ten or twelve journalists already in the tank for Obama a little more rabid than they already are ... at least for a few minutes after reading their Twitter page. And they'd forget even that much after a few minutes anyway.

In short, so what? Perhaps a copy editor at the Indianapolis Star read some #spinewatch tweets and decided to leave TWO entire paragraphs about the McCain camp's so-called "facts don't matter attitude" in that AP story they were cutting down to make fit in the tiny space alloted for it in the next day's print edition, instead of just one. Truly a game-changer, that.

(Apologies for the run-on sentences and all, but I've been up to my eyeballs in bailout coverage for the last three days and I'm getting a bit tired.)

I think if I was a conservative living in Missouri I could make a pretty good case that I could not expect equal protection under the law from these people.  The Governor should demand their resignations.

Law enforcement officers and prosecutors creating even the appearance of the potential for such impropriety should be a firing offense.  Clearly these people feel that they are above anything like the need to exercise good judgement to avoid bringing disrespect upon the justice system, so someone should exercise it for them, and can their arrogant asses.

Just when you think Dems can't get any  lower...

68 LOL The Department of "Justice" wont indict a liberal college student (ie. obamatron) that hacked Sarah Palin's  computer, violating her Constitutional Right to Privacy. Does anyone think the "Law Enforcement Offiicals"/ Truth Squaders are in ANY danger of prosecution?  The DOJ and their buds at the Dept. of STATE  are an embarassment.  This is some dangerous  stuff

Posted by: Rick554 at September 28, 2008 04:32 PM (8nB5X)

69 I remember the liberals who were squealing about foreign wire taps and the threat it was to their privacy.

Where are these people now? Specifically the cud chewing cows from "The View", Rosie, and others.

We were taught that in Weimar Germany: when leftist thugs ran riot, the German state brought them to heel; when reactionary thugs did it, the state did very little.

Anecdotal cases in point: the failed coups of the Spartakists (1919) and of the Nazis (1923). Rosa Luxemburg was executed, even though her support of the uprising was tepid and after-the-fact. Adolf Hitler, who masterminded his beer-hall putsch, was detained in conditions better than the most ludicrous caricature of "Club Fed" over here. They didn't even stop him from writing a book.

This phenomenon is not deliberate policy. The Social Democrats who ruled Germany in the 1920s had no truck with the Nazis; Blunt condemns the Obamists. The problem, in Missouri now as in Germany then, is with the "ordinary Germans": local law enforcement's decision as to which sort of extremism supports the way they want the world to be, and which sort does not.

73 So far, the 50,000 watt blowtorch radio station in STL, KMOX, has been eerily silent about this story in contrast to stories that are against Republicans. And that station, and its local shows, has an oversized impact on local (and by proxy, MO) politics. And what's worse is that the station, except for the three hours Limbaugh is on the air, is very liberal.

They need to be flooded with emails and calls about this story as well.

Why not use a few KOS-like tactics on them?

84 FYI, about a decade ago, there was a law (or intiative passed) that 'outlawed' false and misleading political ads.  The WA Supreme Court heard the case and tossed it out because the court's role is not to judge politics.  One person's false and misleading is another's truth -- it's ultimately up to voters to sort this stuff out.

The great Constitutional Lawyer Obama should know this stuff, inside and out.   What he's doing is more of stuffing Change 'in your face' than anything.
