Big Scoop Coming Down Tonight

Probably at about midnight or just before.

It's Rusty's story. It'll be posted later. Midnight ET or maybe a bit after.

The basics? Astroturfing, of a similar sort as practiced by David "Astroturf" Axelrod. An attempt to get a blatantly dishonest anti-Palin ad to go "viral" on YouTube. Gross deception in pumping out fake "amateur grassroots" ads which are really cooked up by a big PR firm connected to a top Obama advisor, David Axelrod, and Obama's officially-acknowledged ads. And likely bright-line violations of electioneering laws, which require those putting out "electioneering communications" to disclose the true creator and sponsor of such ads.

Oh, Yeah: I forgot to say:

IMPACTING...

Correction: The latest is that the law does not seem to require disclaimers naming the producers/sponsors of an internet ad if it was placed for free and not for fee. As it seems to have just been placed on YouTube in the normal course of things (that is, people from the firm just uploading it without paying YouTube), it doesn't look like this is outright illegal.

As far as that part goes, at least.

1 Is this the one you were asking help for earlier?

Dang, if Axelrod is thrown under the bus, who will Obama have left? I don't think that Michelle will be much help.... and Greasy Joe certainly won't be.

4 Forgive me for Monday-morning quarterbacking (or backseat driving, or whatever):

But if the rightwing blogosphere organized on this, I really think they could make it into a big story - particularly if they demonstrated its connection to the Palin smears.

I know you're up against a not very sympathetic media, but it really surprises me that other right-leaning sites aren't making as big a deal of this as you are.

Anyway, carry on.

I am less than hopeful that whatever this is, gets MSM attention.  Sorry for the buzzkill....

That aside, I wanted to just tell Ace that your blog kicks so much ass, that Maddox wishes he was you...

Posted by: working_man at September 21, 2008 06:57 PM (N5PCH)

6 Right-leaning blogs can effect the MSM news cycle, but it seems it has to be alot of them banging the drum until the MSM can't ignore things.

So, if this is a big enough story and enough people get on board...who knows? We might at least see it on Fox.

EXCELLENT.  I stand ready to help spread the story far and wide.  Hope it's a perfect shitstorm for Axelrod tomorrow!

Even tastier if he can be nailed for violations of McCain-Feingold.

8 I know you're up against a not very sympathetic media, but it really surprises me that other right-leaning sites aren't making as big a deal of this as you are.

For that matter, I probably should also lump the McCain camp into that group, though I guess they might be worried about coming across as paranoid.

Posted by: AD at September 21, 2008 07:00 PM (PeYVg)

9 With Obama points ahead in the Gallup poll, the McCain/Palin ticket is going to need every bit of help they get.

1. Will the evidence be there?
2. Will the media cover it if it is?
3. Will the feds investigate it if it is?
4. Will the media cover that?
5. Will any of this make any difference if Rezko, Wright, and Ayers didn't?

Call me Eyore.

Well, we're more organized than usual.  We're actually teasing it first!

And me and Dan Riehl are promoting it, even though it's not our story.  We're going through our email boxes, including our MSM contacts, etc., doing a drudge style tease.

Biden at least is one of the signers of McCain-Feingold (yes, yes, it's crap law; but if you sign it, you're supposed to obey it). Not sure if Obama was even in the Senate at the time but, lookie here at his website:

"Secrecy Dominates Government Actions: The Bush administration has ignored public disclosure rules and has invoked a legal tool known as the "state secrets" privilege more than any other previous administration to get cases thrown out of civil court.

"Require Independent Monitoring of Lobbying Laws and Ethics Rules: Obama and Biden will use the power of the presidency to fight for an independent watchdog agency to oversee the investigation of congressional ethics violations so that the public can be assured that ethics complaints will be investigated.

"Sunlight Before Signing: Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.

"Shine Light on Earmarks and Pork Barrel Spending: Obama's Transparency and Integrity in Earmarks Act will shed light on all earmarks by disclosing the name of the legislator who asked for each earmark, along with a written justification, 72 hours before they can be approved by the full Senate. "

A big fan of shining lights through transparent windows, is our Barry.

From a commentator in LGF:

Obama is already offering positions in his Cabinet. 6 weeks BEFORE the election...

This could be disseminated among the moderates, I suppose.

We're bloggers (or at least hang out on bloggers' comments) and so McCain Feingold / Fairness Doctrine / etc hits us personally, and we hate that shit. But we're an echo chamber. Most Americans think of political campaign commercials as annoying, and negative, and too slick by half. They don't grit their teeth and accept it as part of the business of democracy like we do; they just want to watch their shows in peace.

Maybe an ad about how McCain has been for decades (ok, two decades...) a longstanding crusader for campaign finance reform, and Biden and now Obama have paid lip service to this ideal... but those two are, through Axelrod, flouting the law.

71 The problem with any "big firm" is leaks.   Its almost impossible to vet all the employees for absolute loyalty and even if you could, that loyalty is usually conditional based on the company behaving somewhat reasonably.

Wherever Rusty got the info, the source needs to be prepared to get fired.  If the PR firm is astute, the leaker WILL be found out fairly quickly.  A sharp internal security staff would be making sure that copies of the vids passed around internally were each uniquely stamped in some manner to ID the recipient.  It could be as simple as altering a pixel on an image in one of the corners that nobody will notice, or making a pause between cuts 1/10's of a second longer or shorter.

At IBM we used to send out specs and software to customers where each package had a different internal code name, none of which matched out own internal code name for the project..  Then when some story appeared in PC Week about IBM's new project codename "XYZ", you'd know right away which customer leaked to PC Week just by the code name used.

We'd also play games with the time/date stamps on distribution files making them slightly different for each beta site customer.  Then if some code appeared in the wild, the time/date stamps would tell you who leaked it.

That could probably be arranged.  All it would take is someone willing to cough up some heavy green to get into one of the fund raisers, then get photographed shaking hands with Obama.

Some notorious kiddie porn producer would probably be even better.

96 It is no longer possible for the Democratic Party to be brought down by any kind of scandal. If it every was. The MSM will fly in teams of reporters to look under every rock in Anchorage, but when it comes to the Democrats, they'll roll over like a cheap whore. God's holy wounds, look at Teddy Kennedy. The man out-and-out committed murder, and not only did he skate, but now he's fawned over as the "Lion of the Senate."

And so now ace and Rusty think that they're going to make a big stink with David F'n Axelrod?  Good luck with that.

98 As soon as the story is posted, I'll send a link to it to one of our more honest (i.e. leans right) talk radio guys.  Rush was big in this area long before he went nationwide - we have a passion for talk radio here.

Also, one of the bigger Democrat falls this year was initiated by our, usually leftwing, local newspaper.  That major story has just settled down, leaving a hole in our news cycle.  I'm betting that will give the local news folks some motivation to play up something new.

I found his producer's, and executive producer's, email address online, but I've never tipped a story before, and I welcome advice from those who've done the media thing before.

Which one do I send the link to (producer/executive producer)?
Do I cut and paste the story with the link, or link only?
Is it bad form to send it to more than one media person, or should I cover more bases?  (TV reporter, print news, etc...)

No, I don't have any personal connections, but I figure it can't hurt to put it out there, as "Concerned Christian making $140,000 a year", or even as myself.

A Concerned Christian making a whole lot less, by about $140,000.

(Not a slacker - my husband works hard, and the Social Security Disability assholes are running 2 years behind in screwing over people who've been paying their fucking salaries for 20+ years.  Fuckheads.)

The second point is the most important, nonetheless: Obama and Pelosi want to delay as much as possible the President's plan because he needs the turmoil to have an insurmountable bounce. I agree with OregonMuse. Fifty percent of the American electorate wants Obama and will vote for him no matter what. No scandal is going to change the mind of those voters. However ...

However, we learned from the past two elections that every vote really is important. If a few swing voters or independents can be persuaded by a scandal in the Obama camp to vote for McCain, then publicizing the scandal and making a lot of noise about it may be just what's needed to push McCain over the top.

Every vote in this election is going to be important. Even if you don't like McCain all that much, but understand that Obama is much, much worse, then please don't sit this one out. Vote Republican, even if you have to hold your nose to do it.

Whatever the total, it was huge, and hundreds sweated for hours under a brutal Florida sun that cooked The Villages' downtown to a toasty 90 degrees. The sun was too much for many, and officials estimated they treated more than 100 people for heat-related health problems.

How the hell is urban culture able to be translated into folklore? I look at it and see nothing but a cliched rap album!

You've heard of snopes, right?  Snopes was originally the faq for alt.folklore.urban.  The vast majority of the debunking found there was done by the a.f.u gang.

196 When blogs first started up, it all seemed to be the Salon snobs.  The alts were the wild west, and blogs just didn't attract me.  All the freaking fonts and clip art borders and content control.  When most of usenet either went moderated or spam filled, a.f.u. kept itself above the fray through sheer force of personality, not to mention the most entertaining newbie taunting that has ever been seen.  There was some awesome power there, even though no one has direct control of anything.

They had the greatest faq traps ever.  Deliberate misspellings that were tasty bait for anyone that hadn't memorized the damn thing, and legions of trolls howling about being mistreated, having no clue that there wasn't any mommy to cry to, and no one cared about their hurt feelings.

And the smilie wars... good times.

So it took me a while to give blogs a look.  The fact that this one seems homey to me should be worrying.

222 Are you playing a cleric in the Aion game? and need Aion Power Leveing? Are you in

a need to get your character leveled on the fastest way? If so, then it's a must to keep in mind these 2 things: What place to go, and what quests to accept

or to decline.

If you go to the wrong places, you won't level very fast and if you accept the time consuming quests, then you won't level very fast either.

Leveling A Cleric in Aion By Going To The Best Leveling Spots

So your first task would be to look for places where you can level very good and quickly get

Aion gold" href="http://www.powerleveling-services.com/">Aion Gold
. To do this, it's needed to look at 3 things. Are there many creatures? If so, too much isn't good. Are there enough quests and how

long does it take to go from north to south?

These 3 factors are the most important to watch. You can't go to an area where are lots of creatures that are bugging you and you can't go to a place that's

taking too long to go from north to south. Also, you should avoid places with barely a quests.

Leveling A Cleric In Aion By Choosing The Best Quests

So, once you've found yourself a great place to level, then your next task would be to start choosing the best quests only. To do this, you will need to

determine the time that a quest takes.

You got to avoid the junk quests. These quests are made to waste your time. And if you accept quests like this, it's high likely that you won't level your

Cleric very fast.

Also, a great thing to do is to actually gather lots of quests and do them all at once. This way, you won't have to go to the quest giver each time you want

to do a quest.

But, how can you gather all these information on where to go, what quest to accept, who to talk to, what to kill and what items to go without spending hours

on research?

Get Started With Aion Power Leveling Your Cleric While Using The Aion

Leveling Guide

If you want to get all of these information without spending hours on research, then I highly recommend you to get a Aion leveling guide. This guide has

already done all the research on where to go, what quests to accept, who to talk to, what to kill and what items to get.

They will release this information in a step by step leveling path format. This way, you'll be sure that you will level your Cleric on the fastest way.
