Timing, it's all about timing. The election's a long way away. McCain's building his case and not burning out any one issue, so that his final summing up will be devastating. Meanwhile Obamabots turn the volume up to 11 on every imagined issue, teaching people to ignore them. Obama's turning his campaign into one giant spam attack. People don't like spammers. Posted by: Looking Glass at September 18, 2008 05:49 PM (QWqkz) 4
The problem with "timing" is the attention span of the electorate lasts about as long as, uh, what was I saying?

Sure, buzz, that's gonna happen.
Na-Na Botox and the Democrats call the Republicans crooks and liars, but the Republicans continue to call the Democrats "colleagues" and "friends across the aisle" with whom they disagree. Republicans, especially George Bush, apparently have no desire at all to defend themselves against unfair and untrue attacks made by the Democrats. It's simply inexplicable. I like this ad, by the way. Much better to focus on Obama as a bad manager who picks bad people who did bad things, than to dwell on the money he took as a Senator from Fannie Mae. Goes to his unfitness to lead, which has been McCain's attack theme all along.

It's a start. Finally McCain got it out there. But this attack comes across as very wimpy. The girl's voice works with some ads; but this one needs a tougher voice or something.

instead of ending these ads with "I"m John McCain and I approve his ad" Can we please end them with: Sarah Palin: "I'm sorry if I hurt Barack Obama's feelings"

I'm sure as heck not a Moby, but even I can sense reality. Obama is up to 4-5% lead depending on the polls. It's partly the economy, but mostly Palin.
Women just hate Palin. I've blogged about this, men like her, because she's a Lara Croft action figure come to life, who married "Xander" from Buffy. But women hate hate hate her for the same reason: no fashionable clothes, no powerful-status laden husband (women don't care about cheating, they only care about power and status), no powerful-status laden job herself, hunting and fishing instead of hanging out with designers and the glitterati. Dems "Quayled" Palin, it stuck, she's done. A drag. Heck Michelle Obama had the crowd laughing at how "Stupid" Palin was and how "smart" Joe Biden is. Reality doesn't matter, what matters (for women) is designer dresses and how important Whoopi Goldberg and other celebutards think someone is, and how much they fawn over them. SNL ridiculing her? Every single woman and every women under 50 is going to vote for "the cool guy." McCain is fighting with one hand behind his back, and will lose. He's already lost too much ground. Refusing to play the Wright, Farrakhan, and Muslim cards has cost him. Voters are blaming him (instead of Obama-Biden-Dodd etc) but that's the cost of Bush ceding the media environment and hunkering down. We need a plan B, since Obama's likely to win, and win big. Impeachment. Obama broke the Logan Act, he took money from Rezko and Saddam's bagman Auichi, he is in deep with ACORN and Ayers, and took money from Hamas and Hezbollah. All crimes, all impeachable. We can survive a hack like Biden, but not Obama. He needs to be impeached. It's as Wretchard suggests, Chicago Rules. We ought to move now, in fact, since an investigation being opened, particularly with subpoenas, would possibly be the only thing that (barring terrorist attacks) that could tip the election McCain's way. It's not as if McCain cares about being President -- he'd rather have the good opinion of the NYT than be President. Hell, have some Congressman call for Obama's indictment under the Logan Act. If their side can hack Palin's emails, our side can push for "the One" to be accountable to the law, not above it. Open investigations in the other matters too, it's Plan B if Obama wins. Investigate him so that he's all tied up in it. When we get hit again by terrorists, call for impeachment for his being soft on them. You can't win if you don't fight. The rules are ... there are no rules. Time to face that reality. Posted by: whiskey at September 18, 2008 06:08 PM (4878o) 17

As a concerned conservative christian snakehandling whacko, I must concur with my fellow concern troll seminar graduate err that perceptive and honest salt of the earth fella, Judd. It's over, just like Peggy Noonan said it was. Can you believe that McCain ran an ad against Obama using another black man as the scapegoat? He's not even bothering with codewords anymore. It's right there in front of our faces. That's not a very Christian thing to do, if you ask me. Posted by: Moby with a vaguely redneckky name at September 18, 2008 06:14 PM (wgLRl) 21
Heck Michelle Obama had the crowd laughing at how "Stupid" Palin was and how "smart" Joe Biden is.
Keep in mind, she is preaching to the choir. Crowds and normal people love Palin. If/when the crowds start dropping at McCain rallies, I'll worry about her being Quayle-d. I do think things are trending against McCain, and I think he's gonna end up losing, but I don't think it'll be big. It'll be a state or two at most. 286-250 will be the winner, one way or another. McCain's best weapons right now are Congress. He should be fighting congress. He'll win if the does this. He should also point out these Obama links more. This ad is okay, but not powerful enough. He should also repeat - over and over - how many advisors of Obama have already cost us $300 billion dollars. McCain needs to put forth more energy talk too. Why has that been back burner since the RNC? There was a debate in congress this week about it, and McCain said...well, he said nothing. At all. Dismal. It also hasn't helped that each time he's asked (him or Palin) they cannot name a single reform they'll enact in office. It's just a word. And it's becoming a nothing word. Hollywood has been the kiss of death the last two elections. In early 2005 two Billboards were put up thanking Hollywood for re-electing President George W. Bush. How long have they been ridiculing George W. Bush and getting big laughs? He's only won four straight elections against the Democrats. Ignore the polls. As Rush Limbaugh has pointed out more than once, the only poll you can trust is the one at the voting booth. The rest are manipulated over time to create a horse-race for the news media to cover. (Or, as an insightful commenter elsewhere said, a soap opera. That’s what all commercial media have gone to, since the soap opera audience is the only one that’s there day in and day out, week after week. Advertisers want a steady stream of audience.) As for convincing you, I’ve read snobs on the Internet whinging that the last four Presidential elections went to the ticket that looked the most Middle American. Sarah Palin looks more like Middle America than the all of the others combined. Take a look at this County Map of the 2004 Election. Posted by: Looking Glass at September 18, 2008 06:18 PM (QWqkz) 26

Right. That's why Bush has to distance himself from McCain and he barely had a presence at the convention. "Women just hate Palin."
Palin is the reason McCain got back in the game. Palin will bring home enough woman voters, don't listen to the press. She won't get the hard lefties, but all I hear from my wife who was never going to vote for McCain is how great she is and how all the moms are talking about how they support her and will vote for her. The shine is off true, but the enthusiasm is still there. She plays well in getting those Democratic moms that have young kids. They were not McCain voters and now they are or are at least leaning that way. McCain now has "street cred" with the lower and lower middle class where he didn't before. That doesn't show in her numbers, but even if they aren't thrilled with Palin, McCain has a second chance with these voters that he didn't have before. She did the job she needed to do. I'll go back to my case, prior to Palin. Who wants to govern this country right now? Between 2011 and 2013, there will no longer be enough money to pay for all these social programs. Underfunded pension funds are going to come due as well. It's gonna be epic at that point. All you can do right now is postpone the inevitable. It should really start in Europe first and move west. They are in the same situation as we are. But will see who goes down first, I suppose. Posted by: lorien1973 at September 18, 2008 06:29 PM (IhQuA) 35

This is demonstrably false. I mean, seriously, dude, lighten up on the amateur social psychology, please. We've seen the blowback for Oprah this year and we know what Hollywood did for Bush in '04. Every single woman and every women under 50 is going to vote for "the cool guy. That is fucking demented. Even as an exaggeration. I've been keeping up. I think Russia is different. A couple of months ago, Putin said something and a company lost 8 billion in stock value. $25 billion dollars left Russia after the Georgian invasion. Putin is also consolidating power in Moscow - juries are chosen by the government. He's rewriting the history books. I think market fears there are a return to the USSR, but I think fascism is more likely. But yeah, it's starting. It's gonna be global and epic. Frick, check my Blog for crikey if you think I'm a Moby, or heck any of my comments here.
The problem is Bush. He ceded the Media environment, let smears go unanswered, and he's toxic. He's got an approval rating about Pelosi's levels. But ... the smears on Palin, largely unanswered, made her poison to most middle class soccer moms. Smears painting her as some snake-handling extremist who bans books, etc. That she has a pregnant daughter does not help, because middle class women are huge status driven people. What do you think accounts for those swings? On more mature thought, I think pressure has to be brought to the Bush Admin to launch a special prosecutor NOW. So that if Obama tries to kill it, which he will, it looks terrible. Do the Whitewater thing which tied up the Clintons for years. The Logan Act carries a three year imprisonment term, a bit embarrassing if your President if under indictment for a felony. It's also a game changer for the election -- candidates under indictment for treason don't do so well. McCain needs a game changer. Playing "Gentlemen" gets a 10 point plus Obama victory. Heck Obama's thugs have been unleashed to "Get in their faces" to intimidate people into Obama-messiah. "Sack up?" No be realistic. We've had 8 years of the worst communicator in the history of America as President, with the Media, and every other institution against our guy and for their frickin Messiah. A guy who wants to ban guns, enact "reparations" for slavery, dismantle the military, has racist preachers, etc. And he's out to a four-five point lead with all that KNOWN. It's only going to get BIGGER. McCain lacks the political stones to get it done. He's a brave man -- but not politically. He won't even fight. Obama WILL. Obama is a wuss, but knows how to win (dirty) ala the divorce records of Ryan. Anyone doubt he was behind Palin's email hacking? Heck, McCain ought to (but won't, because he won't really fight) accuse Obama straight out of that, as a dirty Chicago pol. [McCain pencils in all Americans as his fellow inmates at the Hanoi Hilton. It's his biggest flaw.] McCain is not going to get it done, we need some Congresscritter to push Bush to open up a Logan Act Independent Prosecutor on Obama. Everyone knows there will be show trials for Bush anyway when Obama wins, so tit for tat. It's the only way (game theory wise) to contain things and formed the basis for MAD. Obama's national finance chair:
Superior, co-owned by Pritzker family trusts, began focusing on subprime loans in 1993, according to the FDIC Inspector General's report. At the time, Pritzker was the board's chair. She left the board in 1994 and continued as a director of the bank's holding company. In 2002, the Pritzkers agreed to pay, through trusts, $460 million in a settlement with the government relieving them of liability. "I regret that Superior Bank failed," Pritzker told USA TODAY. I second the 2nd post on this thread. Now is the time to start screaming for Chris Dodd and Barney Frank's head. But where are the right-minded statesmen on this or any other issue? Who is the go-to guy/gal in Congress when the party in power needs a spanking? I can't think of one Republican who can muster a press confrence up like Nancy or Reed can. Nancy has something to say on Drudge about every other day. The left wants impeachment, trials, commisions, investigations . . . whatever. Who on the right in congress will reply in kind?

Geez, you guys need to relax a little. It's going to be fine. Honestly, you're making Allah look like Audie Murphy.

You have missed a major part of McCain's campaign. Maybe so, but a serious accusation should be levelled with gravity not sing-songyness (is that a word?).I also believe Rush is ultimately right- this election, like all elections, will be decided by the white male vote. I hope you are correct- I also think that McCains people know that Obama is going "Rules for radicals" on them ,and are taking the gloves off. This is a good ad, its 100% true. "bad judgment" is a good theme. That makes people think.

Look, McCain's big flaw is that he thinks we are all "Americans" and cell mates in the Hanoi Hilton. Wrong.
We're going to have to pull him across the finish line. Period. Two things: 1. VOLUNTEER at your local Republican Party HQ. Go to JohnMcCain.com and make phone calls. I've made about 1,000 over two Saturdays, sacrificing College Football Saturdays, so you morons can do the same. 2. We NEED to release our own viral videos. If fricking Chrissie Crocker can be an Internet star and get his/her/it's own reality show, we can make our OWN viral videos. Make them FUNNY so they demand attention. Make them SHORT. Make them FOCUSED. Make them so Obama looks like the WORST alternative. Go after Obama's Church and Rev. God Damn America. Go after Rezko/Ayers/Auichi and Saddam. Go after the Logan Act violation. Go after ACORN. Go after Fannie/Freddie. Each vid being short, focused, one only topic. Here is my challenge to you Morons: volunteer, and also make a viral video. Beyond my moronic capacity, but one of you morons here could easily make one. Only viral videos are going to keep us in the game. Posted by: whiskey at September 18, 2008 08:28 PM (4878o) 74
#71 jjshaka wrote, "I also believe Rush is ultimately right- this election, like all elections, will be decided by the white male vote." Thanks. That's something I'll have to contemplate. "I hope you are correct- I also think that McCains people know that Obama is going "Rules for radicals" on them ,and are taking the gloves off." They've been going "Rules for Radicals" since Palin's nomination. It's costing them the election. That's why a big part of McCain's strategy is to keep Obama attacking. BTW, one reporter says this is the fourth time Obama's campaign has "taken the gloves off." Pop the phrase "isotoner campaign" into a search engine or two. No reason to shoot your whole arsenal in one ad, they can do a whole series of this kind of ads.

A reason to cheer up???? Consider the source????
Thank you very much Sarah. I dunno if she's the next coming of Ronnie, but somebody ought to take notice of this and run with it. It ain't gonna be Juan. We may lose this one, but I like our odds better now than I did before the convo. 20/20 hindsight here, but I think her selection was the best move. Regardless of whether Juan pulls off a win or not. I think McCain's people set this up perfectly. I have a suspicion they are doing something like this:
They hammer the association with Raines. Obama and Raines deny, even though it's documented. Fine. McCain's campaign releases ad #2, pointing out a different corrupt connection. Obama must deny again. McCain releases #3, pointing out the next. Net result = Obama makes 3 denials of different things in less than a week. Obama has no choice but to wait for each attack before denying them or else risk bringing up things McCain hasn't brought up yet. He can't preempt McCain, here. He can only wait for it, putting him on the defensive. Once he's on the defensive, McCain needs to release something Obama doesn't expect.
