Must-Read: Lowry on McCain's Bitter Divorce from the Press

Irreconcilable differences -- he wants to win, they want him to lose honorably, by which they mean "meekly."

Really great piece.

With a bit of a hopeful upside: I hope McCain is not too old a dog to learn new tricks. The liberals in the media are not and never were his "friends." He was always just a useful catspaw to them, with which they could claw at hated the Republican Party and George Bush.

At the debates McCain will have an opening to speak directly to the people.

Not much of one because of the MSM biase but it will be all he gets.

The enduring scandal of the McCain campaign is that it wants to win.

As a concerned Christian voter, it bothers me that McCain will go so far as to put up a curtain in an airplane because of his desire to win.

I've enjoyed cruising the lefty blogs, many who are linking to various reporters who used to be Big John McCain supporters now whining that he can no longer "be counted on to lose".

The lefty blogs linking to these articles all have the tone of, "See? We knew he had to be bad, because he was a Repugnican. Why didn't you reporters see it?" And there's the insinuation that somehow this is surprising, and that these reporters are "finally seeing the light". When Rush Limbaugh and most of the conservative punditocracy said before McCain was even the nominee that, if he becomes the Republican nominee, the press's love affair with John McCain will be over.

And are there any conservatives who didn't know that the media would abandon McCain, the minute he actually became the Republican candidate? None that I know of. The media likes folks like McCain as long as they serve their interests (much like the Democrats) and will gleefully throw them under the bus, once he no longer serve to advance their political agenda.

Of course, nominating Palin as a big FU to the MSM. He had to know the MSM would hate her, and boy, did they. Of course, that only makes the base love her more. Myself, I can't wait to vote for the Palin/McCain ticket, and I was tepid before. I was going to vote against Democrats anyway--I almost always do--but the Palin nomination, which was destined to be an affront to ever liberal and MSM reporter who was used to John McCain rolling over for them, really got me jazzed. In no small part because it was the sort of the McCain would only do if he was sure he was done, and was ready to end his long, if sometimes tumultuous, romantic relationship with the press.

I hope McCain is not too old a dog to learn new tricks.

he's an old school warrior - he'll take the betrayal personally.  He already allowed his campaign to go after NBC/MSNBC over their biased coverage; I think they also expressed 'concern' about the Gibson chopped interview.  Senator McCain wouldn't have raised an eyebrow.

6 Whatever else McCain is, he was trained, practiced and survived the warriors craft.
They say that American politics is a blood sport but warfare, a real blood sport, is but another aspect of politics common throughout the world and McCain has practiced both.  Barry?  Not so much.
I cannot for even an instant believe that he's forgotten those lessons but apparently many might and hopefully it will cost them dearly.

As a lifelong Republican and bible-thumping gun toter, I was excited to find out John McCain was going to be our POW nominee for the United States President. And I really don't want to vote for a black person, because they are lazy and like watermelon (my fellow conservatives, you know exactly what I'm talking about).

While [insert_blog_name_here] may say the press is unfriendly to John McCain, they are just asking important questions that I thought he could answer, being a good conservative. But he can't answer any of them them.

But, thanks to the free press in our country and the Fairness Doctrine,  I learned that Sarah Palin raised taxes when she was mayor, and asked for lots of earmarks, and was really for a bridge that didn't go anywhere (except an International Airport, and a ferry is just fine for that). This is smaller government? Then I discovered Barack Obama, despite being black, wants to lower taxes on people like me and is 100% against reparations and getting revenge on white people, like I and most of my conservative friends originally thought.

Then I found out his VP is Joe Biden, who is a white guy. So, I decided that if a white guy like Joe Biden would vote for Obama, then I could, do.

I was also surprised to find out Barack is just as much of a Christian, and believes in God just like I do. Wow! I've really had my eyes opened, and I hope my fellow conservatives will see fit to vote for Barry in November. Just like I will, even though I have been a conservative Republican since birth.

11 The really interesting question is did John McCain REALLY think that the press would continue to give him the love and affection he'd been getting before Obama?

McCain really seemed to be surprised at the turn of events. In his favor, I will grant that he is going after them with much more gusto than any other republican since....hmmm... er, in a long, long time.

Let this be a lesson to you other, weak-tea, RINO-leaning Repubs. The press is NOT your friend. AT ALL. EVER.

Actually this is a good lesson for any politician. The press is out for themselves. Yes, they favor Democrats, but they will gleefully turn on anyone who is not useful to them anymore. It is just much more nasty when it happens to be a R.

Straw poll: Will McCain LEARN anything from all this, or will he go back to sucking up to the media and trying to "make nice" with the Commiecrats when he is President?

I have an image in my head of John McCain as Charlie Brown and the lib media as Lucy yanking the football away...

Just like the NYT endorsed McCain for the GOP leadership in the most praiseworthy terms, and then began calling him Hitler after he won the nomination.

Is Sullivan wearing a CCRAP in that screencap to aid in his sleeping? I wonder if it's hooked up to his own ass instead of the air blower?
