Even Mike Gravel Has Palinmania; We Just Never Noticed Because His Other Manias Were So Much More Florid

One of Hot Air's earlier posts I just got to.

Worth a listen. Even if you're not inclined to give Mike Gravel much respect (I'm not, but then, as an Alaskan, he is more familiar with Palin than most), it's worth it just hear the lefty interviewers become ever more desperate to get him to say anything bad about her.

Does he? You'll have to listen.

Answer in case you don't want to listen: No, except for minor stuff like "I don't agree with her on a lot of things." He even defenders her down the line on Troopergate, where even I think she'll be faulted for something.i

I'm so stoked. All those disaffected Mike Gravel voters are now in play, baby!

1 Second look at Gravel!

Posted by: aquaviva at September 10, 2008 02:03 AM (WdEG6)

2 "purported war on terror"

Sounds about what you'd expect from a liberal radio talk show host.

Posted by: Chad at September 10, 2008 02:14 AM (XyGxj)

3 Isn't this the guy who said the Trojan army was so effective because it was a gay army, or some such shit? Yeah, this dude is a howl.

I'd like to see a Gravel & Paul variety show. They'd be like Rowan & Martin, Sonny & Cher, Adolf & Herman, or even Curtis & Kube (the failed MSNBC team, remember them? they came right after Press & Buchanan, the other great dynamic duo).

Posted by: Bart at September 10, 2008 02:31 AM (wjcFA)

4

Loved it.  The hosts get progressivly desperate with each question, so much so that by the end they are asking questions Bidon style.

Posted by: AC at September 10, 2008 02:33 AM (ZOlLZ)

5 Maybe Mike wants to make sure he doesn't piss of the home team. Just because he's not up for reelection doesn't mean he wants to pick a fight with his homeys.

Posted by: XBradTC at September 10, 2008 02:35 AM (8eko9)

6 "Curtis & Kube (the failed MSNBC team, remember them?"

They had a popular early morning talk show on ABC radio here (770, which also carries Rush, Hannity, et al) for years until they were replaced by Imus last year.

Posted by: someone at September 10, 2008 02:45 AM (2z2WN)

7 Now that I think of it, MSNBC has a short but rich history of bad decisions when it comes to giving people their own shows.

Phil Donohue, Alan Keyes (who became a lughing stock because of his sweaters, sorta like Wesley "Ashley Wilkes" Clark), Ron Regan, Rita Cosby, and the biggest buffoon to ever step in front of a microphone, Jesse The Body Ventura.

Who was the old fat bald guy, he died a few years ago? He was kinda cool. brb.
Ahhh, Jerry Nachman. He was only 57, so he wasn't that old.

Nachman's shtick was to be some old-fashioned newspaper editor. He fashioned himself after a compilation of Lou Grant, J. Jonah Jameson, and Perry White. After he died, MSNBC went straight over the cliff.

8 The obama campaign just sent out an email....

Note. Don't interview Gravel!!!!

Posted by: chris at September 10, 2008 02:46 AM (JoYgh)

9 Compelling interview!  So compelling that this must register to at least Olby's worst person in the world nomination.  Please, bath tub boy, make him the worst person in the world, please!  There will be a hole in the liberal universe otherwise. Rachel Madcow, wouldn't you agree?

Posted by: sergei at September 10, 2008 02:50 AM (SwySF)

10 Yeah, somehow I don't think these poor Pacifica tools (pacifica.org) quite knew what they were going to get.

Gravel's now officially a Libertarian, he's bugged out of Demtown anyway.  I'm sure his basic political philosophy is closer to hers than to Obama's, she's been awfully good for the Dems in Alaska, and he's got absolutely nothing to lose at this point in his life by being honest.

You get the feeling that in general Alaska Dem support for the Big O is going to make the Clintons look positively peripatetic by comparison.  Palin's done more for them in the past two years than they'd managed to do for themselves in the previous dozen.

If McCain wins, her Lt Gov gets the Gov seat but she's kneecapped the 'old' AK GOP and it's debatable how long her personal coat-tails are for other dissident GOPers.

If McCain loses, they have to deal with her and her 80% popularity number back in Juneau and she seems to be the sort that holds her friends close and her enemies closer.

Sooooooo...my uneducated take is that she'll take more hits from the GOP back home than from Dems, unless something shows up that's so juicy it's a good bet to take her all the way down, cripple her both in the VP race and as Governor, at which point they'd pile on.

Posted by: mrkwong at September 10, 2008 03:00 AM (G8Eo0)

11

I would have given just about anything to see the look on their faces when he said that he wasn't even going to vote for Obama (nor McCain, but that's a given).

Heh!!

He even defenders her down the line on Troopergate, where even I think she'll be faulted for something.

I actually figure she's completely guilty in Troopergate and don't care. Hell if I was governor and some highway patrolman had beat up my sister and threatened my father, he'd be lucky to only be in danger of losing his job.

15 An advertising agency guy I know and work with sent me this "email" he received.

Name: XXXXXXXX
Email: XXXXXXXXX
Company Name:
Address: Piss Off Orwellian Nightmare
City: Davis, CA
Phone Number: See above
Fax Number: See above...again

Comments: It has become apparent that NPR and its affiliates are making an effort to do two TOTALLY REPREHENSIBLE actions:

1 - They are denying Mike Gravel publicity that he merits as a democratic presidential contender.

2 - They are conspiring with the "mainstream" media to push the idea that Hillary Clinton is the defacto democratic presidential candidate, by publicizing HER campaign far in excess of the other potential candidates.

Until such time as NPR rectifies these situations, and retroactively provides Mike Gravel with all the air time that has been denied him, I will cease to listen to ANY NPR-carrying station. I will also be boycotting the products and services that are associated with XXXX and organizing my friends to do so as well.

20 Given how angry people are about Palin smears in CONUS, I can imagine they are extremely pissed in Alaska where she's been popular for a while.  Gravel is wise to defend her.  And Alaska pol giving her crap is going to have some seriously tough times ahead.

Ace, check out video of Andy Levy's "halftime report" from this morning's Red Eye - he mentions a policy in Wasilla supposedly enacted by Palin that will probably end up as the next hatchetjob by the dirt-digging Obamasquad up there.

28 OBAMA MUST THINK THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE STUPID !!!

It's one thing when Obama tries to cover up mistakes he's
made in private, or when he feebly tries to cover up or misdirect
us, by saying that he never heard Wright's anti-American sermons
over a 20 year period ... but, when Obama tells us that the
Palin lipstick/pig remark wasn't an insult directed towards
Governor Palin, then Obama is adding insult to injury towards
the American people. This creep is not Presidential material.
P.S. The biased main stream liberal press which is attempting damage control for Obama, also must think the American people are stupid
