McCain really shot himself in the foot when he helped pass all those campaign finance laws and restrictions. A commercial like that on network television could drive a wooden stake into the vampiric heart of the Obama campaign.

I have to disagree this was stupid. I do agree with the sentiment that once WE go to war, everyone in the nation should want us to win, but I do not see how walking away and highlighting a blown off leg advances that. I think this would be equivalent to Palin coming out saying "vote for me or you hate my Down Syndrome baby". IMHO

I never said he was a chickenhawk I wanna win this fuckin thing too. I am just not a fan of this add. Trust me I aint voting for a guy that sat in a racist "white people invented AIDS" church for 20 years either, but there is alot of people out there that think we should have sharpened our knives for better foes than Iraq and I believe it is a mistake to totally alienate them.

Stupid sock puppet.
Posted by: Nice Deb at September 06, 2008 10:50 PM (E1rLc) 16
I am so tired of Lee Greenwood... What was I staying to the very end for? What we're doing in Iraq now, and since about April of 2003, is not a war. It's nation-building. In 2000 one of the candidates for president indicated he though the US military wasn't really very good at nation building. He was right. And he ended up winning that election. And after winning the war -- "Mission Accomplished" and all that -- he tried to hand off the nation building chore to the UN. Who took one casualty and fled in wet-pantsed fright. So, after a whole lot of reformation, and under the guidance of a new kind of general, NOW we have a military that IS good at "nation building". Or I suppose you could call it, "community organizing." Fine. Let's hope we don't have to use our military to fight one of them old fashioned things. You know. A war.

It advances his point that the sacrifices soldiers have made were not a mistake. I totally agree I don't wanna think it was a mistake either. I just do not like the add and seeing him walk away kinda seemed like those lefties holding up fake fuckin caskets to make a political point. Service should speak for its fuckin self in a perfect world and shouldn't be used as a tool. Posted by: LiveFromFortLivingRoom at September 06, 2008 10:55 PM (+BJgT) 19

Only his leg missing wasn't fake. The man put skin in the game. He can deliver his message however the fuck he wants and he certainly don't need your approval and most likely don't give a shit what you think. Posted by: Purple Avenger at September 06, 2008 11:02 PM (6L459) 21
Live,
Yes service SHOULD, but in Obamaland it just don't! That is why this ad is powerfull. And saying "shove it up you ass" aint gonna cut it in valurite land. Makes ya seem like a nasty scandi or sumthin, just sayin. Posted by: George at September 06, 2008 11:05 PM (e9HVb) 22
True, but this is a "comment" section of a blog isn't it? Fuck it is not like I am going up to this dudes face and saying fuck you.
Posted by: LiveFromFortLivingRoom at September 06, 2008 11:06 PM (+BJgT) 23
George I just dislike people that immediatly label someone a "liberal" or a "conservative" as soon as they say one out of line comment.
Posted by: LiveFromFortLivingRoom at September 06, 2008 11:07 PM (+BJgT) 24
Live, is there a reason you are being so hostile? Do you know what a sock puppet is? Why the insults?

Maybe he reads this blog. Word gets around. The military is a tight community. Posted by: Purple Avenger at September 06, 2008 11:19 PM (6L459) 26
...had to wipe the eyes off there, at the end. Grinnin' though. Live? Just repeat after me "Thank you for your service, soldier." With all due respect: that's all the pontificating that matters sometimes; sometimes what you're thinkin' really, honestly shouldn't be said. Not sayin' you can't, just sayin' you shouldn't. It ain't chickenshit talk and it ain't a first amendment crisis either ...it's wisdom. Posted by: davis,br at September 06, 2008 11:31 PM (zewwG) 27
Maybe he reads this blog. Word gets around. The military is a tight community.
Bingo. I first saw this video when it was pointed out to me by a good friend--who served with his father in Vietnam. And in my opinion what makes this so powerful is that he makes such an eloquent argument that sacrifices were made in a noble cause. And then you are walloped with the realization that for him all his eloquence is much more than just words. Posted by: FbL at September 06, 2008 11:40 PM (HwqvF) 28
Thank you for posting it. This is the son of our co-blogger's friend. Our co-blogger is in Iraq right now training the Iraqi's how to fly helicopters. He's a Viet Nam vet that decided he couldn't just sit here and do nothing. Since he was too old for the army to take him back, he went over as one of those "mercenaries".
Any how, Live, I don't know you, but I know these men. You can guess whose opinion matters more. Still, you might consider that Davis is correct: we're a tight community. I don't speak for these men, but my personal thoughts on the matter are simply this: Suck it. it is not like I am going up to this dudes face and saying fuck you. Well I do not think saying that I disagree is me saying fuck you to this guy. The only thing I am saying is that service should not be used as a tool. The people pushing chicken hawk memes are the ones covering for giant fuckin vaginas, not this guy. This guy has proven he has giant balls that he needs a wheelbarrol to carry around, he does not need to point it out. I am not arguing about the guy, he can do whatever he wants. I am just saying i disagree with whoever shot this video, and its impact. I am saying nothing against the guy in the video. Posted by: LiveFromFortLivingRoom at September 07, 2008 12:40 AM (+BJgT) 37
See, I don't even get billing on the site. gonna have to complain to the management. already threatened to have the women create our own WBA (women's blogger association) and demand equal pay. He said I could have bill's pay which is, I believe, $0. So, I can thedonovan.com is far ahead of the women's equal pay issues.

Pretty good ad. (Hi, Fbl, hi, Kat!) Dunno if it will move many independents by this time. I think the intelligent ones have figured things out by now.
And I loathe that Lee Greenwood song. I would rather tongue-kiss Helen Thomas than listen to it again. ...Okay, I would almost do that. Nearly. At least I would seriously consider it. What's wrong with Toby Keith's American Soldier? Posted by: Casey at September 07, 2008 01:53 AM (RJSy/) 41

Wow, that was pretty fucking amazing. My throat is a knot. Good thing I don't have to comment w/my voice. Once again, this blog shows why it is THE number one conservative blog in the USA. And to the dumbass that stunk up this thread, fuck you. You OWE him respect. And you OWE him silence if you disagree with anything about that video. Because he didn't come from a GD "Fort Living Fucking Room", asshole. He came from the real fucking deal. And he left part of himself there. Asshole. (P.S. Thanks for posting, Nice Deb.) Thank you for explaining that, GBR. I was hoping he'd realize his mistake on his own, but I haven't seen an apology, so I'll chalk it up to him just being very dense, as well as obnoxious. Posted by: Nice Deb at September 07, 2008 02:58 PM (E1rLc) 50
Rebekah:
"He treats heroes as if they're victims." Exactly, perfectly right!! This is probably the thing that pisses me off the most about Obama and his ilk. Us dumb-ass soldiers don't want some idiot politicians to "protect" us. That's OUR job. It's what we do and they couldn't do it if they wanted to (which they don't). I lost an eye and spent 8 months at Walter Reed (I had GREAT care there, by the way) after cleverly blocking an IED with my face. I don't blame Bush or the Congress or anybody else here. I don't regret it and I sure as SHIT don't need to hear some friggin leftist who pretends to give a rat's ass about the troops telling me I'm a victim. Or a hero, for that matter. Just another guy doing a job. Sometimes shit happens. Posted by: Mike at September 07, 2008 04:59 PM (SLtdK) 51
Mike? Just like to the guy in the video (and hell, its a habit: I do this at the supermarket): "Thank you for your service, soldier." And. Well put.
