| Obama in the Sarah PatchI've been watching clips of Obama taking on Sarah Palin all day long today. (He says, for example, it seems she wants to be treated like a guy -- huh? was that ever in doubt? -- so now they'll be looking into her record -- wha? you weren't doing that already?). I don't have clips of that but I have this from a couple of days ago, where Obama insists that running his campaign is harder than running a state:And presidential candidates never want to engage vice presidential candidates. The reverse is completely untrue; a vp's job is to go after the other's sides top guy. And yet here we are. The One, the Lamb of Chicago, the man who will clean the oceans and heal the world, is actually having a running argument with the little bumpkin beauty queen from "Wasilly," Alaska. And no matter how much he struggles, he loses. Even if someone were to conclude Obama is better prepared to be president, if they're being honest with themselves, they have to concede that he is barely better prepared, or merely arguably better prepared. And meanwhile, no one seems to have any questions about John McCain's fitness for the office. He gets to skate above it all while his nominal counterpart snipes at and squabbles at his junior officer. I love it. Comments1
This is really, really dumb on Obama's part. PowerLine is convinced Obama is some sort of intellectual giant (but unqualified boob, even so) but I don't see it. This is a dumb, dumb move. Will Obama now unleash Joe Biden on John McCain?
(geezus, the vision of that just made me snicker like hell) Posted by: prairiemain at September 04, 2008 08:50 PM (oPAYR) 2
Great, now he looks unqualified and petty.

Joe Gibbs is the worst speaker in the history of EVAH! He should be packed away in a barrel and shoved over the Niagara Falls. K Posted by: Kestrel at September 04, 2008 08:51 PM (gBnKJ) 4
As long as Obama is fighting to out-qualify the Republican Vice Presidential nominee, he's losing.
By the way, I like the pivot from qualifications to achievements that the Republicans have been doing. Opens a world of possibilities. Posted by: toby hussein 928 at September 04, 2008 08:51 PM (evdj2) Posted by: Hew Hughitt at September 04, 2008 08:51 PM (np5R1) 6
Yep, the Obama team is blowing it. The are talking about Palin like she is running for President not VP. They are giving her way more credit by attacking her and comparing her to Obama. Ive never seen a campaign before who compared their Presidential nominee against the opposing VP nominee.

Their Number One is now in a running (and kinda deadly) feud with our Number Two.
And Joe Biden is riding the Amtrak back to Scranton, half in the bag, talking football and politics to whoever is unfortunate enough to find themselves in the next seat. Posted by: DelD at September 04, 2008 08:59 PM (9ukGv) 12
I think that at just the right moment and in just the right way Hillary is going to signal her PUMAs to pounce.

This is not really dumb! Bite your forked tongues, morons! Obama's got himself a shovel, and a passably dug hole to work on. Don't dissuade him from his labors. The Dkos Vagina Fearing idiots made a big push to attack Palin on everything but substance...and that bit them in their tight, worried asses, (only dogs can hear them fart now), last night. Let them self-immolate. This is good tv, and smart politics all rolled into one. They deftly turned a defensive looking campaign around, and have the dem candidate mincing words with SP....something he'll lose horribly at. We should encourage him. Possibly even mention to him that SP is in possession of an unlicensed vagina...one that has yet to feel the cold steel of an abortionists tools. They have the ball, and are sprinting a dozen yards ahead of the nearest tackle...they're still heading toward the wrong end zone. Just let them run with that. He is running for President afterall. What the fuck more do you want? Look, accept the fact that running for President is way more experience thing than just running a really cold state without black people. Racist. Posted by: JavaJoe at September 04, 2008 09:11 PM (Am6n/) 16
#1, Obama is clearly an intelligent guy and he might do a great job if he wins. Same with McCain also. The parties just trade spots back and forth and I am glad it landed on Obama this year assuming the Democrats are going to take it. I am still expecting something weird.

I'm beginning to think McCain is a genius.
Today, Uh-Uh-Uhbama complained that Palin kept talking about his days as a community organizer which, as he stated, happened years ago, and that they were ignoring his more recent accomplishments. Let's see... a mere two days ago you seemed to forget she was GOVERNOR asshole. You kept referring to her as a small town mayor. She blew it off, you whined. You got your ass kicked by a small town mayor. wimp. Posted by: MagicalPat at September 04, 2008 09:14 PM (O49GA) 18
Sarah Palin should challenge Obama to a debate.

McCain now has atleast 4 great orators working for him: Palin, Fred, Rudy and Huck. Not to mention Jindal when LA is out of the clusterfuck.
Whom does Obama have? Reid? Daschle? Nancy? Biden? Weak tea. Posted by: Tushar at September 04, 2008 09:17 PM (PTWes) 20
The McCain Campaign has been utterly brilliant thus far. They have The One dancing to their tune. McCain & Company have set so many bear traps that it's hard for The Messiah to keep out of them. No matter where he turns there is another. Bonus, he can't control his left wing supporters who are really diminishing the halo glow.

I heard an Obama press conference on the radio on the way home tonight. He was talking about Gov. Palin's speech and responded to some of her one liners and criticisms. It wasn't so much what he said as the way he said it. The guy sounded absolutely spooked. I am betting his internal polls are showing his support cratering after last night and he is shitting his pants because he does not know how to deal with this.

If running a successful primary campaign is such an important credential, I have to ask: Did Obama even BOTHER to vet Joe Biden? Because Biden has a history of pathetically failed primary campaigns stretching back over 20 years! Can Barry honestly say this man was thoroughly vetted? And if this news sneaks out, will Obama throw this liability under the bus like all the others?
You have to quuestion his judgment. Posted by: Johanna Lapp at September 04, 2008 09:31 PM (E9Jrr) 26

1: Powerline is far from alone in implying (with no actual evidence) that Obama is some sort of super genius (the only super genius he resembles, in practice, is Wile E. Coyote). Commentary's blog constantly mentions this; NRO does it fairly often; etc. so it's certainly not an isolated incident. The funny thing is, at least over at Commentary, that no matter how many times you ask the blog posters 'where's the beef' on these claims of some sort of titanic intellect lurking inside Obama's Hulk-like (well, the press seems to think so, anyway) physique they never, ever seem to take anyone up on it.

Guess what, twats? It turns out you're about a third as smart as you think you are, and the fact that you're shouting, and I'm just kind of laughing along with everyone else in the room, proves it.

#34, I have been watching Obama since this thing started and it is pretty clear that he can work through a problem and is intelligent enough to be president. His followers struggle, but if you can get past all the bullshit Obama is not that bad. McCain is better though.
Posted by: bleh at September 04, 2008 10:16 PM (GNCy6) 37
The comedy of this line of argument is, Obama doesn't even manage his fucking campaign -- that job belongs to a guy with the swishy French-sounding name of David Plouffe, with David Axelrod as a consultant. That numbnuts.
I sat right across the aisle from Axelrod on a United flight from Boston to Chicago the day after the NH primary. I'm still kicking myself that I didn't know who he was at the time; I only guessed that he was with one of the candidates since he was talking about the primaries like an insider on his cell phone while we sat on the ground, and I noted the name "David Axelrod" on the binder he had in his lap and Googled him when I got home. God, for the chance to go back in time and fuck with him ... Posted by: Alex at September 04, 2008 10:33 PM (fgyj8) Posted by: hey, wada minnit at September 04, 2008 11:16 PM (ez7V0) 39

There was a story from my pre-PC youth about Brer Rabbit who encountered a Tar Baby and the more he struck it the more he stuck to it and became entangled. Though the Brer Rabbit stories carried the taint of racial insensitivity, this one did inform the morality of school children about which fights to pick and which to avoid. This story must not have made it to the madrasses of Indonesia.
It would appear that the Governor of Alaska has gotten Mr. Obama to take the bait and engage her directly. Yeah, you go wail on the girl, Barry, while the old guy with white hair triangulates your skinny butt. Posted by: steve poling at September 04, 2008 11:22 PM (sUWlR) 42
I'm not certain the "Wasilly" was an intentional dig (not that I don't think Obama is capable of being petty). But he doesn't have a firm grip on how many states are in the union; I just can't imagine he's light enough on his feet to make a pun. I'm thinking he was fumbling the name "Wasilla" with the name "Sicily."
