Nielsen Crush: 37 Million People Watched Palin Last Night

From FoxNews.

Obama, I believe, drew 40 million something. Correction: Actually, it was 38.3 million.

Hey-- kind of like 42% of independents think he's got better experience than Palin, and 37% think Palin has better experience than him.

He's beating her!

Comments

1 Palin defeated a sitting governor to get the Repub. nomination in Alaska, and then defeated a former Governor to win the office. None of the other three -- not Obama, not Biden, not McCain -- had to defeat TWO politicians in a row who both had, earlier, won state-wide majorities, in order to win state-wide office. And she did it without fame or riches or prior political connections. Whether you are for her or against her, wake up, folks -- this woman is for real.

Posted by: sissoed at September 04, 2008 03:13 PM (ICGqd)

2 Actually Obama had 38 million viewers. Stunning that a "unknown" VP candidate almost outperformed "The One".... "The Obamessiah"!

Posted by: Yancy at September 04, 2008 03:13 PM (WDL4j)

3 Obama would make a decent vice president. It would be a good contest, him vs. Palin. That's the appropriate position to seek, given their experience levels.
But Palin is the only one running for Veep.

Posted by: John at September 04, 2008 03:13 PM (lhJxs)

4 Palin = 37,244,000
Obama = 38,379,000
(Drudge; couldn't resist that format...)

Posted by: Cuffy Meigs at September 04, 2008 03:14 PM (uOvAE)

5 But I bet hers drew a lot more buzz after the fact.
I didn't even see Obama's...but I don't recall anyone talking about it the next day.
Today, they're a-talking.

Posted by: Entropy at September 04, 2008 03:15 PM (m6c4H)

6 Obama's speech was seen by 38.4 million, so the numbers were pretty close. No doubt Camp Obama is pleading with the MSMto stop trying to help Obama by makingPalin's speech must-see TV.

7 I didn't even see Obama's...but I don't recall anyone talking about it the next day.
Because of...McCain's Palin veep announcement. Circle of fucking life!

8 So, our VP is even with the top of their ticket.

Sweet.

Posted by: ReallyOldGuy at September 04, 2008 03:19 PM (THsyA)

9 Thank you MSM!
If you would not have so relentlessly trashed Gov. Palin, those numbers would not be nearly so good. Now probably 10M extra people havea great first impression of her.
Well played, indeed.

10 I just LOVE the Obama-Palin comparisons, especially when he comes out looking worse.
He started it, by comparing their respective experience. He would be wise to aim lower, by saying he is smarter than Piper and Willow.

11 Also, unlike Trig, he knows not to poo in a diaper.

12 Cuffy hit the nail on the head.
Does anyone remember anything Obambi said?
I'm stocking up on beer and Scandi treats for the VP debate - Sarah's going to gut Joe Biden like a fish.
Adios Joe - you worthless scum sucking hair-plugged plagiarizing gasbag.

Posted by: Murph at September 04, 2008 03:23 PM (Jp4vM)

13 This is all great, but isn't the proper question how many people watched Governor Palin vs. how many people watched Joe Biden's speech?

Posted by: ArrMatey at September 04, 2008 03:27 PM (35LYA)

14 Also, unlike Trig, he knows not to poo in a diaper.

I'm not so sure anymore, Tush. I think crappin of pants is a common occurrence now at Barak Hussein's headquarters.

15 It needs to be said, McCain is one crafty old bastard.

He's taken Obama (the media, the democrats, the pundits, and , yes, Republicans) to school. It's been exceedingly gratifying.

Posted by: DelD at September 04, 2008 03:29 PM (e2nyP)

16 Know how the left whines that they all have cell phones and are not being counted in polls? For those of us who've dumped our televisions (I had to use all my will power to not run out and buy one) and rely on radio to hear the convention speeches, don't we get counted?

And I the only one dead tired? I just tried to take a nap other wise I won't make last to hear McCain.

Posted by: grc at September 04, 2008 03:31 PM (3h8sn)

17 Tushar - Little Miss Piper stole the show last night when she licked her hand and smoothed her baby brothers hair.
If Obambi is lucky he might hold his own with the Palin family dog, otherwise, he'd be toast if he had to debate Trig.
And, since the democrats and their enablers in the MSM are wasting soooo much time comparing Sarah to Obambi perhaps we should alter the debate format this year and have the democratic presidential nominee debate the GOP's VP.
And, just so Big Mac doesn't feel left out we'll let him debate Biden. Maybe Joe can explain his five deferments from military service during college. Memory serves that that was a major disqualifier for Dick Cheney.

Posted by: Murph at September 04, 2008 03:31 PM (Jp4vM)

18 Tushar: "He would be wise to aim lower, by saying he is smarter than Piper and Willow."

19 My face hurts from laughing. The msm and sinestrosphere Obamabots made this happen. They are Wile E. Coyote. They're so fucked in the head they even thought their coordinated attack would make her drop out.

This is Rove's magnum opus.

20 Does anyone remember anything Obambi said?

McCain is running for Bush's third term

Obama is hope.

McCain = Bush

Obama is change we can believe in

McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time. (Bush voted in the Senate? Karl Rove strikes again)

The rest of The One's speech was bullshit.

23 Bitter Divorced Career Expert: Bitch Better Get Back in the Kitchen

"It's really hard to know where to compromise. Here's what I was doing when my kid was five months old: I was at home. Hating it. Telling myself that I was not cut out to be at home. I was sort of a columnist and sort of a mom and sort of a psychopath. Because having a five-month-old with special needs is very very hard. Not just learning to take care of the baby, but mentally coping.

Why is no one talking about this? The Republicans should dump Palin. She's got too much responsibility at home.

Don't tell me that this is not fair to women. Because you know what? People should have railed against John Edwards running for President when he had two young kids at home and a wife fighting cancer. Fine if she wants him to run for office while she fights the cancer. I get it. But I don't get how the President of the United States was going to have time to console two school age kids about their mom's death while leading the country. It's irresponsible."

24 I have studiously avoided both convention coverages but last night I was moth to candle - and damn glad I watched. I haven't had that much entertainment from adults in decades. 25 Obama said one thing I agree with in his speech, the bit about parents turning off the TV and making kids do homework and fathers taking responsibility for their children. Of course, it was couched between big nanny state government is gonna do everything else for you rhetoric.

And, Murph, as far as Obama holding his own against the Palin family dog, I wouldn't count on it. A friend of mine raised in Alaska told me that many people who have to carry groceries or raw meat from a hunt any distance at all use their dogs to distract the bears.

38 Palin will be a tough act for McCain to follow. The redmeat was last night. Tonight, I expect relentless forward-looking optimistic of-course-we-can reform rhetoric. Spiced with a hint of danger faced with resolve.

OT and without disrespect, I wondering how they are planning to finesse the traditional high-hands victory clasp. I don't guess I have ever appreciated just how busted up McCain is until I saw his awkward attempt at a hug last night.

Posted by: toby hussein 928 at September 04, 2008 04:39 PM (evdj2)

39 Yeah, the amazing thing is she's only been in the race one week. And both her televised speeches were crazy electric grand slams.
So while it would not be smart to get too carried away, I see nothing but upside over the next four weeks. And then, Oct 2 isBiden, IIRC.
Wow, this isexhilarating. We could be in for some amazing political theatre. Last night I watched CNN for a few minutes and they were all just totally blown away. Eventually, after about ten minutes, they recovered and started coming up with a few bogus negatives, but they were really weak and forced.
It was refreshing and extremely unusual to see Anderson Cooper, Campbell Brown and JohnKingact likeimpartial journalists.
It was also funny to see Wolf Blitzer trying to spin Harry Reid's "Shrill!" statement to possibly/hopefully mean Rudy and Mitt instead of Sarah. And then Dana Bash ended that fantasy, which caused major palpatations on the part of the female analysts on the panel.
It's probably not a good idea to have high-level male politicians calling a female opponent "shrill". I can imagine about 10 million undecided female voters hearingthat and getting extremely peeved.

OF COURSE lots of people watched Sarah Palin. I watched her!

Why? She is a complete unknown who was just selected as our potential Vice President, that's why.

People who hated Obama already didn't need to tune in to reaffirm that. Nobody knows who the hell Sarah Palin is and we all were interested to find out who Saint McCain had chosen for us.

Turns out he chose a perky liar.

This should be obvious to all. We have had many opportunities to see Biden and Obama speak over the years. Palin? Not so much.
