Moby of the Day
I don't want "adorable bubbly and sweet" in the WH during wartime. As a Christian I believe she should be home with her small children, especially the child with Downs Syndrome- not traipsing around the world and spending long hours on the job. Entirely inappropriate choice. Men will vote because she is attractive- is that sensible? Al Qaeda is laughing at this very moment, I guarantee it. McCain passed over tough, seasoned candidates for a bit of fluff and we will pay dearly. -- "Jack"Well, Mrs. Palin must have put the fear of (the) God(dess) into the left, because that's one of our best Mobys ever. "Jack," Well, I have to say, as a liberal Democrat and Obama supporter, that I'm impressed with her and am now changing my vote to vote for McCain/Palin. I can't believe that I, a lifelong Democrat, will be voting Republican this year.

15 Back in 2000, the press and the Democrats had a fit over Bush picking Cheney. You all remember:
They warned (in the form of insincere advice) Bush to reconsider his awful choice because Cheney was too old, too Conservative, too partisan, too angry, too sick (yes, they said his heart was too weak), too mean, etc.
The moral of the story: The Democrats/MSM are scared to death of Veeps who can energize the base and intelligently articulate Conservative policy.

The Naval Observatory is a fairly big chunk of real estate for upper Northwest DC, but the VP's residence is on a fairly small plot of it, and is a modest sized house. It's MUCH smaller than the Executive Residence by itself (the central part of the White House, minus the East and West Wings).

55 My loving people,
We have been persuaded by some that are careful of our safety, to take heed how we commit our selves to armed multitudes, for fear of treachery; but I assure you I do not desire to live to distrust my faithful and loving people. Let tyrants fear, I have always so behaved myself that, under God, I have placed my chiefest strength and safeguard in the loyal hearts and good-will of my subjects; and therefore I am come amongst you, as you see, at this time, not for my recreation and disport, but being resolved, in the midst and heat of the battle, to live and die amongst you all; to lay down for my God, and for my kingdom, and my people, my honour and my blood, even in the dust. I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too, and think foul scorn that Parma or Spain, or any prince of Europe, should dare to invade the borders of my realm; to which rather than any dishonour shall grow by me, I myself will take up arms, I myself will be your general, judge, and rewarder of every one of your virtues in the field. I know already, for your forwardness you have deserved rewards and crowns; and We do assure you in the word of a prince, they shall be duly paid you. In the mean time, my lieutenant general2 shall be in my stead, than whom never prince commanded a more noble or worthy subject; not doubting but by your obedience to my general, by your concord in the camp, and your valour in the field, we shall shortly have a famous victory over those enemies of my God, of my kingdom, and of my people.

64 To AD @ 17: You got me right the left troll, but you missed me on the "irate". As I stated on an earlier thread, my hat is off to the McCampaign for this move. Whether it works remains to be seen, but it deserves to go down as the boldest veep pick in in my lifetime, and maybe in the history of veep pickery.
JFK's pick of LBJ in 1960 was attacked for being driven by a willingness in the Kennedy campaign had to sacrifice principle ensure winning, and both before and after Kennedy was assassinated the opportunism played out in ways which have reverberated over time alterered the landscape: JFK's perceived need to get the military-industrial complex Hawks off his back[pre-neocons for those evolutionarily inclined], to give him room to send federal troopers into Dixie- which regardless your point of view at the time brought back images of the Union forces setting upon the South like locusts on a cornfield.
LBJ's own self-consciousness about his origins accept led to him conclued he needed to placate northern white liberals neuter Bobby Kennedy for 1964- which had a lot, or most, possibly everything to do with his pushing through the Civil Rights Act of 1964; and to shove that down the throats of the Dixiecrats he felt compelled to throw them some red meat, and that turned into Vietnam.
Nothing to report thereafter until 43 [though Reagan picked 41 as his veep to try to deal with a perceived gap in his foreign policy resume. Surprise!- to say nothing of irony. Ace is a buffoon to think lefties don't get irony. The leftyblogosphere is fueled by starting out by pointing to Winger hypocrisy ending with pointing to irony. Part of the reason picking Palin is so awesomely ingenious is this presents one of the few times the Wing has been able to pick up an lefty arrow fire it right back at the left- but this time dipped in pitch lit up].
But since 43 too was perceived as having a "foreign policy gap" in his resume
[a judgment suffused with irony given his pops mainlined on the stuff; but 43 had to give that up to build his "governance" resume in Texas; Texans have never ceded the right of the POTUS to speak for them on foreign policy, unless the President himself is a Texan.]
and voila: Darth Cheney and the Empire Strikes Back.
Like a lot on the left I thought McCain was struck with about 5 choices each with a bit of potential upside and a lot of guaranteed downside- I don't need to review them here, to say the least, but it might help you for me to summarize each from how I see him as an official Tool Troll:
He's a ....what? Aw jeez, McCain wiped the floor with him; what are we now, Biden's Diner? And please God, don't let him dance.
 Who? WHO?
Aw jeez- even the Dems didn't want him now we're stuck with him?
What's that about him exorcism? Bad enoug we gotta tell everyone that tan don't mean nothing- now we gotta explain why serving up sludgie cones somehow 'qualifies' him. And after we do all that how in hell is he supposed to be a wedge into Obama Nation?
Now you tell me just how we gonna deal with the fact that even a complete outside like Chuck Todd is treating the engagement like a head fake. Florida giveth - oh yeah- but Florida taketh away. Can you say "Congressional pages"?
If I saw all that, you don't think the Anti-Christ's campaign missed it, do you?
I said this better in an earlier thread: There are Hail Marys there are Hail Marys, but this one is the smartest, and the greatest since little Dougie Flutie threw it up for Gerald Phelan in the Miami Bowl, and as political Hail Mary, beyond dispute the greatest in American political history.
Now that Ace has gotten all of you interested in picking up a dictionary, you might wanna to look up "awesome". Ah well, you're a Tool after all- - but now you're a Tool with a purpose.

73 59, 62, 64, 65 Every had an animalannoyed with you Hollowpoint? Not some hyper, piss dripping cocker spaniel, but a real animal... like a Simmetal or Charleois bull, or maybe asow with piglets (red hogs are the meanest,btw...). Not quite so defenseless as you believe, methinks. And those are domesticated ones, bull moose pick fights in the middle of the road with automobiles that honk at them during the rut... and win. They will clean your clock and you'll go home in some lawn and leaf bags if you don't know what you're about.
Animals kill, humans are just the best at it. A gun is merely an implement that aids that action.
Nixon's right, it's not a magic wand. If the situation warrants you to get it out, you best becapable of using it for what Hollowpoint said.
I think this pick is tops... she's going to connect with lots of rednecks like me because of her experiences and she's probably got a firmer handshake than 3/4 of those metro limp wrists in congress today. I'm not the only flyover state bumkin who got back on the wagon this weekend I bet.

74 I was annoyed that MacNasty didn't pick Gov Romney but greatly relieved that it wasn't a Liberman.
Knowing nothing about her I looked up her bio/info and was very pleased. The I saw her photo. Hot Damn. As a life long Republican, I'm gonna vote GOP this time...
