A Very Dour Chris Matthews Very Concerned About Experience

A particularly despicable claim was asking Pat Buchanan if he thought Sarah Palin, who he asserted was a big supporter of Pitchfork Pat and in particular of his "anti-gay" policies (without evidence! -- he was just taking her social conservatism to be the equal of Buchananism), would frighten the center.

Note the entire premise of that question was not based on fact, but upon either his imagination or an email from Media Matters.

Correction, Again! Wrong again. Apparently she did sign up to be part of Buchanan's movement in some fashion. I blew that one. Apologies. Matthews got it right.

Once Buchanan defended himself (having no time to defend Palin), Andrea Mitchell actually stepped in and rebutted Matthews, noting that Palin is libertarian to some extent and that Palin's first veto was in support of gay rights (i.e., she vetoed a bill restricting gay rights).

Matthews didn't have much to say about that. He didn't retract his previous assertion, certainly.

Instead he dove right back in with the "inexperienced" thing. Gee, and I thought two years of high elected office was all an exciting and charismatic newcomer needed to pass the experience threshold.

Still no word on how many National Guard troops Barack Obama commands.

That's all the fun from Chris for the day. After that eight minute segment, it's All About Barack.

Verdict: AWWWWWESOMMME.

Sarah Palin Wants Creationism Taught in Classes! Well... not actually. Note the Dowdification of the quote.

And Matthews is Back on Palin: At least he acknowledges she is in fact a maverick and reformer, and knocks down the oily Democratic hack's attempt to claim she's part of the Stevens-Young corruption in Alaska.

That's ridiculous -- she's been fighting that her whole term.

1 Was he worried about the experience of Luke Russert, who is probably the only sane one on msnbc?

Posted by: grc at August 29, 2008 05:23 PM (pZdUo)

2 And Chris Matthews as how much executive experience???  Keep playing that card Dems, you are only highlighting your PRESIDENTIAL candidates lack of qualification in that regard.

Posted by: CDR M at August 29, 2008 05:25 PM (TJoU6)

3 In this case, poor Andrea has a point.  Palin will have great appeal to us libertarian/conservative types.

Posted by: Bugler at August 29, 2008 05:28 PM (YCVBL)

4 Matthews lashes out like that when he's frustrated. He used to do it against the Clintons when he thought Bill betrayed the office and got away with it.

That didn't last long, of course, but what it shows is that he's scared, unsure, and unable to cope with the current reality.

And I like that.

5 Why can't we just storm the Charismanian's Bastille?

As I remember Sid ney Cartown was the true hero of The Tale of Two Cities, not Madame Defarge. She was a devious snarkist too.

Why do we have to go through this yet again? No one stormed the Hanoi Hilton-- the man was, as we say in American English, pinned down, captive, and a bargaining chip for Communist Vietnam- deep behind enemy lines.

That IS experience. Granted the 60's are ancient history, but so is the Gunpowder Plot.

It's just another round of tit for tat (no pun intended you animals).

They've been hungering for an impeachment so they can say, "Well yours got impeached too."

Now they're trying it with the candidates, "Well your candidate is too."

Only one problem - Gov. Palin actually has experience as a government executive unlike anyone in the Demoncrat lineup. It is slowly but surely coming out in direct comparisons like: how many military units has Barry or Biden commanded as commander in chief? (as governor she commands the guard units from Alaska) How many countries have you had official diplomatic negotiations with? (as governor she has had continuous diplomatic contact with Russia and Canada on pipelines, fishing, oil drilling, borders, etc.) The list goes on, but you can see what's coming.

7 They're already painting Palin as "closely linked to the failed policies of McCain, Bush, and Cheney."

Cockusckers.

8 If the Magical Negrois so awesome, why does the MSM/Obama camp need to run negative attacks against McCain and Palin?

Has his magic worn off?

9 I dropped by a political forum I know of that's largely dominated by Democrats, and they're all convinced that this is the worst mistake McCain could make.  I've heard that her speech sucked, that she has no experience, that she doesn't deserve any credit for not "pulling her retarded kid out with a coathanger", that no Hillary voter will like her, that no women will agree with her on "feminist" issues, that Biden will destroy her in the debates, that she's destined to humiliate herself in public events, that McCain can no longer play the "experience" card, and I've even heard the phrase "gun-toting soccer mom" tossed around once or twice.

Of course, these same people have also referred to Obama's speech last night as a "tour de force", so I'm expecting that they might not represent the average voter.

On those Hillary Clinton Forums linked earlier the posts are like 95% saying they're voting for McCain now instead.

It's mind blowing.

13 Seems as if the left, despite their denial, is in shock at the moment, so they'll throw the kitchen sink at Palin if they thought it would help. People should shut up and think when in panic mode. If Palin can do this to the Democrats right now, imagine what would happen if they actually got to run the country. Allie has been sporting an erection ever since Barry got the Democratic node

14 I hope you stayed around for the PUMA woman. If she is representative of the group, that is one large unhappy group of women. They may not vote for McCain but again, if she is representative, they ain't voting for Obama.

Posted by: JackStraw at August 29, 2008 06:01 PM (VBon8)

15 Has anyone wondered if this is a head-fake? Think about it, McCain spends the last week floating Tom Ridge and Joe Lieberman. Even to the point where people like Byron York are hearing from "Insiders" that if  McCain could do whatever he wanted, he'd pick Liebs.

A week of outspoken conservative disapproval follows. In the end, McCain picks a running mate who is nothing less then fabulous on conservative issues.

So now, conservatives think, "Hey, look, we *can* influence him. Maybe we will be able to make him keep his promises on taxes and judges. And maybe we can stop him from Amnesty, too.

So, conservatives are tricked into thinking they won't screwed over by a President, And, all the time, McCain's laughing up his sleeve. "Suckers."

I only wonder if McCain is smart enough to actually do this.

Even better. Real border security makes one part of Buchanan's movement.Could it be that McCain is getting it?

19 ...noting that Palin is libertarian to some extent and that Palin's first veto was in support of gay rights (i.e., she vetoed a bill restricting gay rights).

Ehh.. not so much. She was told by her advisors that the bill she vetoed was unconstitutional, and she abided by that. She supported a 1998 amendment to the Alaskan constitution that would ban same-sex marriage. (info on both here.) Not exactly a libertarian position.

Posted by: dorkafork at August 29, 2008 06:35 PM (kErJj)

20 Does 'real' border security mean the same thing as geographical border security, or are you just talking about rich nobles not having to look at commoners?

Apparently, as now reported by Ace on the home page, her "support" for Buchanan was wearing a Buchanan button while welcoming him to town as mayor when he visited the town in 1999 for his failed 2000 presidential run. And she wrote to a local paper that she didn't support his run.
