A cynic might suggest that McCain - who has been awkwardly courting the more disaffected Hillblazers since Hillary Clinton lost her bid - chose Palin because he could use her as a stronger selling point to PUMAs. And this cynic is suggesting it’s part of the reason.
True, it’s not as simple as all that. McCain wants to balance his ticket with someone who doesn’t remember the League of Nations. And how better to deflect the full impact of Barack Obama’s historical acceptance speech at Mile High Stadium than with historic news of his own? But based on his continued insistent pandering to a demographic not traditionally receptive to the GOP, his line of thinking can’t be far from this: “Man, those bitches really loved Hillary. If I can get them to vote for me, I bet I can win this thing. What if I ask my painted trollop cunt wife to run with me? Nah, no one will buy that. What if I ask some other trollop? Feminists don’t care about womens issues, they just want to see one of their own in power. They’ll eat this shit up.”
I feel McNasty just skimming the Arizona Senator’s mind. If anyone needs me I’ll be throwing up, or as McCain inaccurately and archaically terms it, “sojourning in the vomitorium.”

Women in offices all over this country are hearing this crap, some even nodding but silently mad (like the Bradley effect, I guess). I am hoping all the oozing sexism just keeps pouring out, and as polls slip, it gets ever worse. Women are well aware of what sexism is all about. And liberals love to assume everyone agrees with them. Many don't have that 'politics' filter in polite company.

This is Andrew Sullivan on our life today: "a country at war, a climate in flux, an economy in trouble, and an empire close to imploding".

Sullivan gleefully quotes from Ramesh Ponnuru's reservations about Palin when Sullivan likes what he hears; despite that he had, not 24 hours earlier, slimed Ponnuru for the [Bircher] "paranoid style" when Ponnuru dared compare Obama's rhetoric with his actual actions. He turns them into insults on the post's title, and adds some more: "utterly unqualified", "Miers", "Vice-President for Oil".

There is also mail from unhinged "former republicans" who agree with him, but you knew there would be.

One dude says he's from Alaska, so 'take it from me', this was a stupid pick. No elaboration. I would be quite happy to let Alaska choose which ticket is better.

If you measure experience by accomplishments, you have a woman who has done a hell of a lot of good and earned the love of Alaska, vs. Obama, who has no accomplishments.

Apparently Mayor is less than community organizer (and a failure at it, despite huge funding). Apparently governor and commander in chief of Alaska is inferior to being a 'present' voting senator. Hell, what has Biden accomplished? Offering blank checks to Iran? Palin is more qualified for the office than Biden is.

Like I said earlier, this will become much more aggressive once it's clear the polls are turning wildly towards Mccain. If they had anything on her we'd already have heard it. All they have is that she fired a cop for hitting his wife and threatening her father. Only Dukakis wouldn't fire for that.

30 Senator Hopenchange's "bounce" probably isn't going to last long, given the vibe Palin's getting today.

I read somewhere today that Palin represents the "high risk/high reward" VP pick, but I'm not so sure about the "risk" part -- the GOP was going to be a long-shot this year no matter who ran on the ticket. I think that McCain/Palin is probably the best ticket the GOP could have mustered, all things considered. Not who I would have chosen personally (I was, and am, a Fred! guy), but probably the two people best positioned to woo fence-sitting Democrats over to the GOP side. There are a hell of a lot of blue-dog Dems in middle America that aren't nuts about Senator Hopenchange, and they're not just bitter Hillary supporters.
