Bill Ayers in 2004: Bombings "Restrained," Not "a Big Deal"

Friend of Barack's.

In the interview, conducted three years after the September 11 attacks, Ayers argued the U.S. government had carried out “many other acts of terror … even recently, that are comparable,” and claimed he and his bomb-planting comrades were “restrained” in their actions.

Ayers, now a professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago, served with Barack Obama on the board of the charitable Woods Fund of Chicago for three years and helped launch Obama’s political career in Illinois by hosting in his Hyde Park home an informal campaign event for the future state senator in 1995.

Ayers claimed the Weathermen were driven by “hope and love,” not despair, and said he did not think the group’s violent acts, targeting federal officials and local law enforcement officers, were “a big deal.”

...

When asked about some Palestinians who had been captured on videotape dancing in the streets after the attacks, Ayers said coverage of those individuals had been “overwrought” in the U.S. media, and added: “[E]verybody in the world knows that Americans are geographically challenged and historically challenged. We don’t have a sense of who we are or where we are. So I think every American that I know was weeping over the next several weeks, and devastated and shocked. Was that an act of pure terror? It absolutely was.

“And there are many other acts of terror carried out by our government, even recently, that, that are comparable. And there are other acts of terror that have gone on in places like Bosnia that we forgot to notice.”

Explaining how he became a leader of the radical 1960s antiwar group, the Weathermen (and its subsequent fugitive incarnation, the Weather Underground), Ayers was unrepentant about the group’s planting of bombs in the Capitol, the Pentagon, and other sites. “I think I was on the side of justice and ultimately it will be seen that way,” Ayers said. “I don’t think our move was so much towards violence."

4 Oh, do you want to know the definition of stupid? I just chatted with this girl from Iowa:

[19:44:17] Christoph says: Obama has terrorist friends.
[19:44:42] Lauren says: what are your sources?
[19:45:16] Christoph says: It's common knowledge. He served on a board with William Ayers who proudly admits to leading a group that bombed several buildings including the Pentagon. Ayers said he wished he'd done more.
[19:45:35] Christoph says: He started his political career at Ayers' house.
[19:45:50] Lauren says: so. that doesn't make him a terrorist
[19:46:01] Christoph says: No, it makes him the friend of an unrepentant terrorist.
[19:46:33] Lauren says: so?
[19:46:38] Lauren says: it doesn't mean he is
[19:46:47] Lauren says: and I won't judge him on his friends
[19:46:53] Lauren says: I know the saying you are your friends
[19:47:03] Lauren says: but....still...everyone can make their own decisions

Iowa voted for Mike Huckabee. Just saying.

6 Bill Ayers was able to help end the Vietnam war.  That war ending the way it did killed millions of people.  We would have won the war otherwise in my opinion, but I wasn't there.  All I know is that this is the true legacy of the anti-war movement, and why the wise were able to fight them so well on the Iraq propaganda war, and prevent a similar atrocity.

Bill Ayers's second impact on our world may very well be to prevent Obama from being President.  I certainly intend to send him a thank you card if Mccain wins.

Ayres walked because of prosecutorial misconduct. But his Ayres Sr. was a very influential man, and many things are for sale in Chicago, not just what WalMart carries.

Further, Ayres seems to live in his own, insulated little world. He’s never had to face real criticism, or really account for his actions. It’s important to remember that Ayres has a degree in Education; it’s little more than legally acceptable proof that he graduated high school.

Read or listen to Ayres' words. The thoughts he expresses are hardly profound; rather, they show at best a cursory understanding of the real world, and an assumption that his ideas are necessarily correct and beyonf need of examination. Actually, they are only for the uninformed/misinformed, the simple, the perpetual followers and students.

Fortunately, Obama’s roughly 10 association with Ayres is something that won’t easily go away, unless we let it.

The two of them essentially failed as leaders of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, and over a number of years. This degree of continued executive failure should have kept Obama out of any county or state office.

I bet that once the UI-Chicago papers are examined, they will show, among other things, many if not all of Obama’s policies and proposals from earlier this year are really warmed-over Marxist nonsense proposed by Ayres that were either rejected or were tried and failed.

There’s speculation that Ayres is the force that tried to stop the release of the UI documents. If so, and it turns out that he was the dominant player on the CAC, and Obama was simply padding his resume, this could be a major crisis for both men: Obama had no leadership experience during his 8 or so years in his position, and the country will be able to examine, criticize and ultimately reject (and ridicule) this additional failure of Ayres.

The Freedom of Information Act is indeed a most useful product of the Virtnam Era.

20 Ayers claimed the Weathermen were driven by “hope and love,” not despair, and said he did not think the group’s violent acts, targeting federal officials and local law enforcement officers, were “a big deal.”

First of all, I don't think "hope and love" and "despair" are the only motives available to people who commit acts of terrorism.  For instance, there's also hatred, which seems to be a pretty powerful motivator for a lot of people.  Ideological rigidity, be it toward Marxism in his case or Islamic fascism in the case of Osama bin Laden is also a factor.

And while he may not think their terrorist activities were "a big deal," the families of their victims would probably disagree.  But hey, those are just the little people, right?  They're victims of their own "false consciousness" anyway, so they wouldn't understand that Bill & Co. were fighting for them, maaaaan.

The fact that this asshole isn't hanging like an albatross around Barack Obama's neck is a fucking disgrace.  If John McCain had ever even sneezed toward, say, an abortion clinic bomber, it would be on the front page of every major newspaper, the cover of every weekly news magazine, and the top story on all the networks.

We are well and truly fucked if Obama wins.

24 "These people are like revolutionary communists:  Any act is justifiable if it advances their political beliefs."

Yes. If I may be so bold, one might say that nihilism as an ideology supports this (by way of a curious sort of two-face materialism and the standard "will to power" rot that comes from looking at the abyss and seeing yourself commanding hoards of Hunns into Russia). Modern liberalism is the philosophical heir, in the sense that it's the exact opposite of classical liberalism dressed up in order to take its place. (I'm looking forward to that Kalb book on liberalism.)

Also: the greatest gift to the 20th century from socialism was the lie that only socialism is an option. The entire first world has bought it, and we spent the first half of the century fighting between its strains (national, international, and the soft fascism of Wilson, et al). Socialism is a foregone conclusion, and now we have to appeal to the nicer liberals in order to hold off the nasty ones. It's all leaning further Left, built on shaky, self-fulfilling lies of inequality and class warfare during the most prosperous and equitable time of the human race.

Contentment isn't enough to counter rabble rousers. Shunning is a good start.

26 Lazy assholes - again with the Woods Fund reference only. The real meat & potatoes was the 9 figure sum that Barry helped distribute to all Ayers' revolutionary friends via the "failed" Annenberg Challenge. The more I think about it, the more I realize that the CAC didn't fail at all. It succeeded fabulously at funneling filthy capitalist lucre to some leftist dirtbags. Just like Ayers  installed Barry as his puppet figurehead, so now comes the DNC running the playbook. Viva la Change, baby!

27 The problem with the Ayers stuff is that the average American doesn't care.  The Vietnam war is, like, a million years ago.  Anything that happened that long ago is not important.  I mean, didn't you see what Brittney was wearing the other day?

28 Ayers claimed the Weathermen were driven by “hope and love,” not despair, and said he did not think the group’s violent acts, targeting federal officials and local law enforcement officers, were “a big deal.”

What was no "big deal" was when this simple loser's cocksucker friends blew themselves to Hell because they were too stupid to know how dangerous handling explosives were in putting bombs together in their playpen revolutionary horseshit.  Assholes like Ayers were a dime a dozen in college at the time, low on brain-power and trying to get over on trim even stupider than they were (and idiots like Barry) with their lame Marxist crap.  The media started getting infiltrated with vermin and were complicit in romanticizing these maggots and acting like it's no "big deal".  The beginning of payback would be for this ugly shitstain to be a primary reason for Oblammo to get pwn3d at the hands of a hero of Vietnam.

Ayers is proof enough that some rough and ready citizens' justice still has a place.  The trees on my patch of ground have plenty of sturdy limbs, and rope is cheap...

I think the average American would care, if they really knew the story.  Most people I've spoken to have very little (if any) knowledge about this matter.  It should be constantly trumpeted and thrust in the public's face, to force people to confront the reality.  The Left does that with their lies - it's time for the Right to do that with the truth.  Eventually it will sink in.

30 These underground cells that Ayers belonged to were Maoist and they held held regular denunciation meetings. They also had orgies (not very Maoist). The intent was to break down the individual completely by breaking taboos. Straight males were ordered to have sex with males, women weren't allowed to choose their sexual partners, etc.

And

2) That myth about old style Dems loving this country really was just a myth.

If old man Ayers really did have that much juice with the Daleys, I could see something like this happening:

Ayers Sr: Look, you gotta understand, Billy's not so smart and kind of a hothead, but you and I go back and Billy's gotta have a job.

41 In any sane world, this douchebag and his loon of a wife would be rotting in federal prison this very day. Instead, they are both sheltered in the ivy-covered bosom of the academy. I suppose in a way it is testament to how really free America is, that this obviously-guilty terrorist could not only survive but thrive in the very society he's trying to bring low. Still, this speaks of a kind of cultural schizophrenia that can't bode well for the future: America is more of an idea than a place, and it only works so long as the majority of people belive in certain common ideals.

" It's amazing how many SDS/Weatherman are teachers."

I've told this story before, maybe here, but it's good anyway.

I was having a few beers with a vendor rep and it was around the 2004 election. The hotel he was staying at, and where we were drinking is one that is used for a lot of Michigan Education Assn stuff.

Well, we were in line and a small slightly balding older guy, grew up in the 60's for sure, was also in line and heard us taliking about voting for Bush. He confronted us on it and started to ask me why I would vote for him in this condescending teacherly tone, as if he had all the answers. Anyone who has ever come in contact with leftists knows what I'm talking about. I gave back to him the reasons why I would vote for Bush, and a defense of conservatism from a Randian perspective, of course, and that made him even more angry.

So he skulks away, he couldn't give me any reasons why I shouldn't vote for Bush just got red faced and stammered, and we get our drinks and go hang out.

Next time I go to get a beer, an older woman is in line and she confronted me as well. She said that I deserve a punch in the head for voting for Bush, that little misshapen asshole was sitting with her and a few other teacherly types. He was going to have her do it for me, or maybe just made a remark about it.

These people are worthless mentally defective little cowards who pick on children because they know they are defenseless.

I had a social studies teacher in hs who was like these people, he's a fucking Principal. What a flaming asshole that guy was. That mincing effeminate voice...what a dickhead.

Ayers is not evil because he wakes up and says to himself "I shall be evil." Ayers and ObL and others before and after wake up and commit evil acts out of motives they believe to be good. Motives, intents, as the words are commonly used, don't mean sh##t.
It isn't despair (or love) that makes Ayers evil, it is his combat against justice and law.

One's going to die (if he hasn't already) of renal failure, the other is training a whole bunch of other willing idiots to carry on his tradition... surrounded by his adoring sycophants.

Disgusting.

56 It's much easier to go through life as a fuck up and not worrying about the consequences of one's actions when your rich family with connections are always there to bail you out and find some school/job that will hire you.

What's wrong with that?

57 Lazy assholes - again with the Woods Fund reference only.

I'm eagerly awaiting the Kurtz and Diamond report on the CAC documents.  It's amusing and amazing that those two guys are working together now....the uber-conservative PhD and uber-liberal JD.  If the folks scrubbing the records made any mistake at all, those two guys will find it.

58 Dealing with people who have no capacity for introspection and honest self evaluation gives me a fucking migraine. Ayers belief that the bombings of the W.U. were "good" reminds me of the discussion a while back about the "Vagina Monologues" (alt. title: Hoohah Harangues) and how one of them involves a character who as a teenager was coerced into lesbian sex by an older woman. But since it caused the character to realize the truth of her own homosexuality it was a good rape. So remember kids, progressive ideology means never having to say you're sorry.

If Bush was clever, he should have declared that the war in Iraq was due to Saddam's unwillingness to provide government grants to foster transgendered community theater.

Does Obama know anyone who is remotely respectable?

At this point it wouldn't surprise me one bit if we found out that he was childhood friends with Jeffery Dahlmer, played squash every wednesday with Al Zawahiri and was personally tutored by Kim Jong Il.

Q: What's the difference between a college student wearing a Che t-shirt and one wearing an Ayers t-shirt?

A: Ayers gets paid for the one with his picture. Capitalism, baby!
