Breaking; Negotiations Between Hill and Obama Have "Ceased;" Obama Now Merely Telling Hillary What's Going to Happen

Possible Plan to Scrap Roll Call Entirely in Favor of Written Ballot (Which Woud Be Untelevised, and Perhaps Not Even at the Convention)

Alternate plan: Roll call begins tomorrow, but ends at 1:15. Then the call for unanimous acclimation of Obama.

Another plan: Each state reads its delegates' votes... but only Obama's numbers are mentioned. Hillary's delegate counts are omitted entirely. Thus, instead of saying "The Great State of Iowa casts (whatever) 44 votes for Hillary Clinton, and sixty-six votes for the next president of the United States, Barack Obama," they just say "Iowa casts sixty six votes for the next president of the United States, Barack Obama."

That's not how it traditionally works. At least I've always heard the vote-split way of announcing the delegate count.

On FoxNews now. Hill's Angels are getting pissed off.

I don't blame them, really. No one watches the roll call. More will watch this one, but what, exactly, is the problem? Everyone knows Hillary won nearly 50% of the delegates. What's the problem in having an announcement as to what everyone already knows?

Good Lord All Mighty, Obama is a vain, thin-skinned guy.

Bear in mind, this genius Obama is further annoying Hillary's delegates in the interests of "uniting the party."

It's 3 a.m. All Over Again: McCain's, and Hilary's, new ad:

Man, if that ad was racist when Hillary ran it, I can't wait to find out how extra-special racist it is now that it's McCain's.

Thanks to KP.

7 You know I wasn't going to drink tonight but fuck this.  I'm going to get plastered and enjoy the show.  Last night I watched a lot of MSNBC and it was great.  Tonight is going to be even better!  Please let Hillary do something messed up and force Olberdouche into an unscripted spittleflecked tirade.  Come on man, I deserve this.  If Olbermann and Scarbourough get in a fist fight on live TV I'll probably die laughing.  Since I'm pretty much out of money and reason's to live it would be an opportune time.  Come on Hillary and supporters now is not the time to be reasonable.

Posted by: Big E at August 26, 2008 05:23 PM (uw1/g)

8 The reason for having the convention is to elect the party candidate. To not have a roll call would disenfranchise nearly half the delegates.

Yes, the race is over, but to do it under the table would be a huge gift to McCain and the RNC who will make sure to show every vote "counted" live and in full color.

If they can't come to an agreement on a motion for a unanimous vote on the floor, at the very least -- they'll hand McCain 5 points in the polls that they'll never get back.

11 The comment about Obama's vanity makes me wonder something...

If someone at the Dem convention did a karaoke version of "You're So Vain", how many people in the room would think the song was about them?

On a more serious note, Obama starting to dictate terms to Hillary when he doesn't even own a clear majority of the delegates is a REALLY bad idea for him (and, indirectly, McCain since Obama's the weaker candidate).

That may be enough to start a last-minute revolt by the PUMA crowd and secure enough delegates to force a floor-vote on TV.  (I think the requirement is like 700 signed delegates... and I'm sure she'll be able to get it.)

.Good Lord All Mighty, Obama is a vain, thin-skinned guy.

He's John Kerry with a thinner resume and more dysfunctional childhood. Where Kerry responded to every criticism with haughty, faux-macho bluster, Obama respondes with haughty, passive-aggressive petulant whining. Both are fucking crybabies with super inflated senses of their own importance. The thin-skin stems from their elitism; both considered themselves better and smarter than their critics, and couldn't respond to the criticism without throwing tantrums.

That is something I've been secretly storing in the awesomely awesome cabinet:  when BHO fails, and really, come on, he will, the Clintonista reprisals are going to be bloody.  I think it's a credit to the democrat party that they, for the most part, haven't even figured this out.  Maybe -aside from FEMA camps in Iraq- lefties are simply unable to comprehend threats or danger.

Not that I mind her taking down Obama with her, mind you.

Last time I checked, she had over $20 million on campaign debt, with some $13 million out of her pocket.  Apparently Obama hasn't been as helpful in soliciting donations for her as she'd like- no doubt he'd rather keep the money in his own campaign.

Plus- these are the Clintons we're talking about.  She's in no danger of losing her Senate seat, so what does she gain from Obama getting elected?  McCain wins and she can run in 2012.  If Obama wins, she's shut out until 2016.

She'll give the appearance of supporting Obama, but only to the minimum level needed not to generate a significant backlash.  And her supporters do have a point- the Obama camp could've done a lot more Clinton ass-kissing; in fact it would've been smart to do so.  That he hasn't has more to do with ego than campaign tactics.

As very many commenters have already said, Barak Hussein Obama is clearly someone who can’t handle criticism, let alone honest adult criticism. He clearly has a deep sense of entitlement, is unaccustomed to losing (sort of like a slightly fat and very spoiled rich snot), and seems easily willing to deposit blame on others.  It's the Chicago Elitist Leftist Liberal way.

Throw in his resume, highlight his list of mediocre job performances (yet, in hindsight, he’s really had it easy) and questionable associations, and he really can’t stand public scrutiny.

Hillary Clinton also hates to lose, and has an equally deep sense of entitlement. She probably feels, very strongly, that this nomination has been stolen from her. A better analysis shows that she was outplayed, with some clear ethnic voting going against her. But there is a very real chance that she has more votes than BHO, certainly if "buyer’s remorse" is allowed.

I think that, given the revelations of the past 2 months, maybe longer, very many operators in the Democratic apparatus have severe doubts about BHO; his judgement, ability to lead, electability, etc.  It’s possible that many "other" delegates (from Edwards and others) will not vote for BHO on the first ballot, and Hillary could win.

Togas, Spanish wine (purple stuff; 17%), stuffed olives, figs, pizza and garlic bread: let the gladiatorial games begin.

Posted by: Arbalest at August 26, 2008 06:22 PM (1j+ex)

39 What exactly is she hoping to gain?

I imagine she would like to pay off her debts and it is traditional that the candidate helps to do that by raising money. But, Obama has given her the finger.  So, she gains nothing by being cooperative with him.

The press helped her lose because they were so enamored with Obama. Also, it is her supporters who feel screwed. What is Obama going to do when after they remove the roll call from the floor, all her delegates start booing him when they say he won? That's going to look embarasssing on national television.

47 I think the Democratic Party is terrified something unexpected or problematic happens that throws the nomination to Senator Clinton instead of Senator Obama. That would basically ruin the party's lock hold on blacks and end them as a real force in America for at least a few election cycles.

Bill committed perjury, covered it up, and retained the Presidency.  And he, and Hillary, are just going to let Obama walk away with it?  I think Obama's right to be worried.

Pretty much.  They're worried about any public airing of discord during the convetion, yet the steps they're taking to hide it are doing more to sow it than had they just let the Clinton supporters blow off a little steam.
