I think that there is only one explanation for the delay in announcing a running mate, and the fact that when announced the selection was obviously that of an idiot... Biden was not the first choice, just the first deperate enough to say yes.

McCain must be having a damn good day, knowing that at this point he could probably select Jesse Ventura as his running mate and still win the election.

Senator Hopenchange's choice of Slow Joe Biden as his running-mate is almost too good to be true. The candidate who was promising to "change everything" has gone with a run-at-the-mouth political hack...from <i>Delaware</i>, no less. There is no downside to this: even if the Donks win, it will give us four years of hilarious Biden commentary that will forever demote VP Quayle to an also-ran in the "dumbass vice-president" category.

It's odd: this is a year that should have been a gimme for the Donks. Historically low public support for the Republicans, the war in Iraq winding down, a down economy: all stuff that the Donks should have been able to ride to victory. And yet the Donks once again prove the old saying: the Republican's greatest strength is that they get to run against Democrats.

I've gone from thinking that McCain would probably lose to thinking that he's probably going to win (although it's far from a sure thing).
