| Jane Hamster of FireDogLake: If Lieberman Becomes President, He'll Round Up All of Ned Lamont's Bloggers and Put Them in GitmoOne benefit of a Lieberman vice presidential bid. Now, seriously, admit it: Sure he's pro-choice, but you're intrigued now, arencha? You probably think she's kidding. You probably are quite wrong.Obviously, I have an elaborate nightmare where Joe Lieberman gets the VP nod, McCain wins, then dies -- and we're looking at a President Lieberman. At which point I and a host of others bloggers who supported Ned Lamont wind up in Guantanamo Bay. Now I may just be engaging in extraordinary cynicism here. But over the years, I've watched Arlen Specter set himself up as conscience of the Senate and rail against the administration's abuse of executive powers, at which point everyone invests him with the moral authority to adjudicate the situation and then he lets 'em off the hook. That's incoherent, of course (it is Jane Hamster), but what she's saying (I think) is that Arlen Specter has set himself up with the credibility to arbitrate constitutional questions, and if President Lieberman gives the order to arrest, deport, and jail Americans for no offense except supporting a political opponent, Specter would give his blessing and that finding would carry the day. Judges who don't think actual terrorists belong in Gitmo would, apparently, defer to Specter's hypothetical finding that noncriminal Americans do belong there. She is quite serious here. She has gamed this out. Sort of. Hey, stupid people can game shit out too. ... I sure hope this is just my dark thoughts getting the best of me. Because I do not look good in orange. How about a white number with nice long sleeves and big bold leather straps? Via NewsBusters. Amazing. As the bear says, "This isn't just about the hunting anymore, is it?" (NSFW joke told here at 8:10.) This isn't politics for the left. It's some sort persecuted-messiah psychodrama fantasia they're playing out in their own badly addled heads.* Politics are just the vehicle for acting out this consensual mass hallucination. If there weren't any politics to shape their delusions, they'd just be talking about Men in Black and Voice-to-Skull technology the same as any other muttering, eye-twitching schizophrenic. Casting these paranoid delusions in terms of political oppression gives them the veneer of sanity. But only the veneer. * Actually, now that I think about it, it's a bit like a game of Dungeons & Dragons without dice or graph paper. Like a role-playing game, each participant agrees to indulge the others in their shared mutual fantasy; each player agrees "You are a mighty warrior, and I am a rogue, and this kid over here is a wizard." The "game" works to the extent that each participant buys into, and reinforces, the conventions and assumptions of the agreed-upon fantasy world. The only difference, really, is that they're all playing the same character -- persecuted rebels for truth, hounded at every turn by an Evil Tyranny bent on killing them or shipping them off to the Salt Mines of Outer Tenubiah. And they get very pissy when someone comes in and disturbs their communal fantasy "political" cosplay, by speaking to them "OOC" (out of character). Hmmm... Maybe Michael Goldfarb is right. Comments1

Considering those "Truth Commissions" the left seems to be serious about if Obama wins, I think it's safe to ask if there isn't a little bit of projection going on here.
Posted by: Lee at August 20, 2008 06:44 PM (TxTIh) 7
Projection is an ugly thing. It's actually amazing how often lefties let their deepest wet dreams about what they'd do to us Conservatives if given half a chance out for the world to see. Some of these people need to be quarantined from the internet for a couple weeks, just to watch their heads explode with all the crazy not getting out. I think she's absolutely right. If McCain wins, with or without Lieberman, liberals are going to start being rounded up and sent to Gitmo. In fact, even if Obama wins (i.e., if Diebold is unsuccessful in helping McSame steal the election), the military-prison-bigoil-industrial complex will just stage a coup and establish McCain or Bush or Cheney as President for Life and start herding liberals into boxcars.
Jane, and all the other liberals out there, listen to me: You've got to go into hiding. Immediately! Don't wait for the election, it may be too late by then. Find a nice attic or basement somewhere and cut yourself off completely from contact with the outside world until further notice. Remember, IPs can be traced, so obviously you will need to stop blogging and commenting on blogs. Trust no one! If you do happen to catch a glimpse of a newspaper or website, remember that the corporate media is nothing but a Rethug propaganda machine, so don't expect to read the truth about your fellow travelers being rounded up. One day, perhaps, it will be safe to return and tell future generations of the true horror of the Bu$h/McSame years, but for now, hide! Good luck to you all. Jane Hamsher-- let's see, isn't she the bitch that posted that racist photo of Bill Clinton in dark glasses and Joe Liebermann as a foolish black Amos 'n Andy? Why does anyone pay any attention to this neo-Stalinist creep?
As far as Ned Lamont is concerned, friends, just look into his family tree and what do you find? Of course there's one Corliss Lamont, a well-known Communist Party hack/activist and apologist for Stalinist crimes against humanity. I'm not sure of the genealogical connection between Corliss and Ned, but it is close enough to be taken into account. For you, Jane, honey, think about the real Gulag, the Gulag that never sunk into the the thought process of the American extreme left. Even if you get sent to GITMO, which is a mere fantasy of the paranoid left, you'll more than likely come out of that experience overweight, more paranoid than ever and pandered to by the less than credible American mainstream media. That situation was never experienced by the real victims of Stalin's Gulag, that paradise you and your likes seem to idealize!! Posted by: Mescalero at August 20, 2008 10:54 PM (1n6H9) 42

Make me think of 2 quotes/instances" Lyn Lear on election '06: "When I asked Gore Vidal at dinner why the White House seemed so serene and at ease about the vote, he replied that, this time around, the Bush-Cheney henchmen could simply call on martial law. He glumly noted that we are so far down the road toward totalitarianism that, even if Democrats do win back the Congress, it would take at least two generations before the last six years of damage to the nation could be reversed. Gore frankly despaired that any amount of time could ever return the country to where and what it previously was. This prediction left me reaching for some Fernet Branca." and from Bill Ayers: "Guilty as sin, free as a bird, it's a great country." Posted by: topsecretk9 at August 20, 2008 11:56 PM (hVoxN) 45

The D&D analogy is good, but I have a better one. Historical reenactment. Todays lefties are doing a vast, extended reenactment of the late 1960s. They are protesting the war in Iraq using the techniques (and at times the vocabulary) of the anti-Vietnam war movement. They want a Nixon to hate, so they've cast George Bush in the role, even though it's hard to imagine two more dissimilar men. And now in Denver they're planning to recreate the 1968 riots at the Democratic convention -- even though their far-left antiwar candidate is the presumptive nominee.
