Obama Alllllmooooost Says Clarance Thomas Was Too Inexperienced To Be On The Supreme Court

I put this in the Saddleback thread as an update but its so tantalizingly great, it deserves a post of its own.

When asked by Rick Warren which of the current Supreme Court Justices he would not have nominated, The One says Clarance Thomas.

The reason he winds up giving is tasty as well. According to Thomas, unlike Scalia just wasn't very smart. The nutroots must have loved that.

1 The nutroots is so full of b.s. They would nominate a first year law student as long as he was liberal over a moderate with 30 years on the bench.

2 I think the Federal Judicial Network is stellar when it comes to judicial review.

3 He's probably been coached carefully to avoid the "ex" word, but it still comes out when asked about talking points he's memorized but hasn't dragged up for years. Clarence Thomas being one of them - inexperienced, not qualified, uncle tom.

6 I remember the hearings when Justice Thomas was being grilled by senators regarding his approach to Constitutional interpretation.  It was clear that original authorial intent was his guiding principle, which has been confirmed over and again by his many decisions from the bench.

I am sure Obama views the Constitution as a "living document," which is just another way of saying that the Supreme Court should have the authority to twist the document any way they please in order to advance the latest progressive fad.

Sometimes I wonder why liberals even bother with the charade of pretending to interpret the U.S. Constitution, when it is obviously just legislative (not judicial) fiat.

7 "And now, at the Coliseum, the lightweight Barry Obama from Illinois, has challenged (snicker) the Heavyweight Clarence Thomas..."

What a freaking idiot Obama turns out to be.

Posted by: Merovign at August 17, 2008 12:25 AM (UXoQt)

8 Mark Levin had pretty much the same take I did in the other thread:

"Without a doubt, the lowest moment of the night was Obama's smear of Clarence Thomas. He, like Harry Reid, can't simply disagree with Thomas, he has to try to degrade him. On Obama's best day he can't hold a candle to Thomas's intelligence. Obama can barely make it through a press conference and ducks town hall debates with McCain because of his inability to speak in complete sentences when pressed to show his much noted but usually absent brilliance."

9 And if I was on the admissions board, I would not have admitted Obama to Harvard Law.

10 the lightweight Barry Obama from Illinois, has challenged (snicker) the Heavyweight Clarence Thomas... from Georgia. FIFY.

We get the blame for Jimmy Carter, and we're damned well going to take credit for Clarence Thomas!

Posted by: Andy at August 17, 2008 12:30 AM (iIvIk)

11 "I don't think he was a strong enough jurist or legal thinker at the time" - how the heck does that differ from saying Clarence Thomas didn't have the experience?  Except that it's even more insulting.

12 Clearance, Clarence.

Posted by: Captain Over at August 17, 2008 12:40 AM (OuMcZ)

13 Barack Obama isn't qualified to carry Clarence Thomas' jock strap. In fact, he's not qualified to carry the jock strap of the accountant who does the books for the mechanic who fixes the car of the guy who delivers Chinese take-out to Clarence Thomas' house. But Andrew Sullivan is.

Obama's point of view is basically tribal. If a black defendant appears before Thomas, Thomas should rule in favor of that defendant because...follow carefully here...they're both black!

Furthermore, while white people can be liberal, centrist or conservative, black people are only allowed to be liberal. In Obama's world, you can't say "They all look alike". But you can say "They all should think alike--or else."

In a just world the next question would have been...

"Okay, please cite an example that illustrates his lack of strength as a jurist or legal thinker."

OT (but too important not to bring it to the attention of AOSHQ morons): Carolyn Glick at the JP "Georgia, Israel and the Nature of Man". The best post-event analysis of the Russian invasion you're likely to come across. Utterly damning.

The money quote: "Georgia only made one mistake ...As it steadily built alliances, it forgot to build an army."

God help us all: but she nailed it. Read it and weep.

I'm the biggest Obama opposer I know, and he still continues to astound me daily with his breathtaking ignorance.  I never knew how hard it was to run for President; never knew how many opportunities one had to utterly disqualify onesself until this guy came along.  He is instructive.

When I hear liberals speak about politics, it makes me throw up a little in my mouth sometimes.  And when my friends express similar sentiments, I remind them that it's important to let them speak out, so that you know who they are and can act accordingly.

Barack Obama continues to prove himself the perfect example of who to avoid.

Best Regards

Dear Barry, you clearly do not have the experience, judgment and temperament to be President, and will not gain it in next 4 months. There is a shortcut though. Drink a coke everyday with Justice Thomas's pubic hair in it, and by November you will become deserving enough to gain the wisdom to realize that you are utterly incapable and undeserving of  shouldering the burden of Presidency.

P.S. Getting kicked in the nuts by Justice Thomas will also have the same effect.

22 So when Liberals say the Constitution is a "living breathing document," that basically means what was actually said doesn't matter, all that matters is what they think it should have said today, right?

DrewM:"According to Thomas, unlike Scalia just wasn't very smart. The nutroots must have loved that. "

Yep. If I may channel Steve Sailer, low-status whites hate affirmative action because it muscles them out in favour of blacks. High-status whites love affirmative action because it gives them leverage over blacks. They're not allowed to say this in public, but they cheer when other blacks say it.

NPR this morning gave a relentlessly "balanced" report on this "dabate", interviewing people who were saying good things and bad about both, and highlighting responses that found favor with the audoence, and ones that were not well received, again from both.

This is a clear "tell" that even NPR knew Obama got thumped good.

Ahoy, I'm not black and don't understand too well what constitutes "high-status" among blacks. Generally what confers status to a member of minority group B within B differs from what confers status to this person within society at large. It's better to say that affirmative action helps well-connected blacks.

What brings this to mind: I was talking with an underemployed white lady recently; she works for a company which tests blood. She is drawing the actual blood; if she had a college degree in, say, biology then she'd be doing better work for more pay. The company has decided, deliberately or not, to give these jobs to blacks. Either that or it's a coincidence that the department is all black, apart from this one lady who's only allowed to come to work one morning a week, despite entire towns of low-status whites around the place.

The above example is extreme, and more an illustration of my-cousin-got-me-this-job patronage than of a deliberate quota system. But if the company is smart and cynical, and it certainly doesn't seem too bound by scruple, then it will bundle this department among the more technical departments and tout the bundle as "diverse". And they do advertise as "Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action".

Low-status whites are aware of the patronage system and, if you spend any length of time with them, you'll hear about it.

The complaints of low-status whites don't help their status one bit, natch. To impartial observers, this sounds like whining. White "non racist" observers will think "this person is white trash who competes on the same level as the affirmative-action set of black people. STAY AWAY"

As a corollary, high-status whites are also aware of the patronage system. They have nothing but contempt for black people who benefit from AA; and, since they've all been to "equal opportunity" college, suspect that most other blacks are in that set at best.

But, high-status white people can't say this. Which is why it gives them such a big pale chubby when they see a black person, or a simulacrum of one like Obama, sneer at a black person they don't like as an affirmative-action baby.

37 "living, breathing constitution"= I'll use it to screw my enemies and empower me.

Posted by: jjshaka at August 17, 2008 12:48 PM (UJPJ9)

38 The Constitution is an extremely well-thought-out philosophical document arrived at through examination of a large amount of other governance systems.
It is the culmination of the literary output of the Enlightenment, the high-water mark of Western Civilization-- before the French Revolution introduced the "Nation-at-War" B.S.

People take the Oath to defend the Constitution, not the Party system-- against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic, so help me God.

I think the politicizing of the whole Judicial Branch is so counter-productive. Moreover, we need to understand that the egalitarian Secondary Foundation Document is NOT a basis for the Court's legal reasoning.

Maybe it should be. What made sense when we were a fledgeling weak nation buying time to develop some parity of might with the Great Powers is IMO not necessary anymore and the Declaration should be secondary grounds for arguments and rulings.

We're strong enough and safe enough, thanks to the men and women who defend our culture (which includes ouur military culture).

I can say this safely because I couldn't get elected dogcatcher.

39 I think the biggest flaw in the Supreme Court is the lack of a specialist in Intellectual Property Law. Everything involving World Trade involves IP directly or indirectly.
The WTO, which was formed largely by the GATT 1994 TRIPS Agreement, is built upon Paris 1967 Accords and the Berne Convention. TRIPS is the Trade-Related Intellectual Property system and the WTO is regulated, adjucated, and controlled by the TRIPS Council and other TRIPS-derived bodies.
To understand IP Law, one has to be familiar with theoretical semiotics and deconstructionism and the rules and customs of international signification protocols. They were following the rules with that 'Saddam Hussein' business that led from Clinton failing the Drill almost directly to the Iraq War. He just got vindictive over being humiated when he failed the Drill and did some dirty paperwork.
I don't blame Bush; he was too early in his learning curve to really follow the intricacies of this stuff. And he was totally busy in post-9/11 business to listen to Allies saying, "No, you don't really understand." They didn't want to give the Game away.
If it were up to me, I wouldn't care if the IP Judge nominated for the Court were Democrat or Republican, although being personally Loyal-R I would prefer a Republican.
