Reille Hunter's Sister: Yeah, I'm Going to Need You to Go Ahead and Take That Paternity Test, Honey

Good stuff. As you may have already known from the Enquirer, Reille Hunter was head over heels in love with this douche, and figured they'd be married one day. So neither she nor her sister is cool with the insinuations she's a political groupie humping anyone with a DNC Guest Pass.

And his interview is grippingly cocksuckerish.

Old Media Dethroned (?): Tim Rutten says so. I say no.

When John Edwards admitted Friday that he lied about his affair with filmmaker Rielle Hunter, a former employee of his campaign, he may have ended his public life but he certainly ratified an end to the era in which traditional media set the agenda for national political journalism.

From the start, the Edwards scandal has belonged entirely to the alternative and new media. The tabloid National Enquirer has done all the significant reporting on it -- reporting that turns out to be largely correct -- and bloggers and online commentators have refused to let the story sputter into oblivion.

Slate's Mickey Kaus has been foremost among the latter, alternately analyzing and speculating on the Enquirer's reporting and ridiculing the mainstream media for a fastidiousness that has seemed, from the start, wholly absurd. Like other commentators, he repeatedly alleged that a double standard that favored Democrats applied to the story. Like the Enquirer's reporting, the special-treatment charge is largely true, as anyone who recalls the media frenzy over conservative commentator and former Cabinet secretary William Bennett's high-stakes gambling would agree.

...

...

It's interesting that what finally forced Edwards into telling the truth was a mainstream media organization. ABC News began investigating the Edwards affair in October, but really began to push after the Beverly Hilton allegations. When ABC confronted Edwards with its story (which confirmed "95% to 96%" of the tabloid's reporting, according to the network), he admitted his deception.

With that admission, the illusion that traditional print and broadcast news organizations can establish the limits of acceptable political journalism joined the passenger pigeon on the roster of extinct Americana.

It's not yet clear that Brian Ross forced Edwards' hand -- it could have been pressure from the Democrats to resolve this before the election (Protect Barack > Protect Elizabeth).

And Edwards, of course, says that he granted an interview to spare the Youngs and Reille Hunter further harassment by the tabloids, which seems to me to be the most likely reason of all for the story breaking. (At least according to the David "Sucker of Cock" Shuster school of journalism, which states that "very credible" sources, such as Edwards and his campaign agents, must be trusted implicitly as regards scandalous allegations about Edwards.)

But assuming that it was ABC News' pressure -- then Old Media has not really been dethroned. They kept the story out of the news, mostly, and only when one reporter with a bit of license to dig independently on stories pursued it did it actually break big. (It was Brian Ross, I believe, who first or most aggressively pursued that "Stop Sexual Predators" guy's blog-allegations against Tom Foley, too, and thereby vaulted that story into the MSM.)

Still, the public may have some questions about why the media all but refused to report on this.

The AP's whine that it's just durned hard to confirm an affair is ridiculous. As is obvious to almost everyone at this point, people connected with Reille Hunter, including she herself, were leaking to the media. They wanted to talk. Hunter's sister Melissa is an obvious suspect: She's angry as hell at John Edwards for screwing over her sister, and the original Enquirer reports cited angered friends reporting on the affair. Whether it was Melissa or not, the fact is that it seems someone was going to the media, rather than waiting for the media to come to her.

Is it plausible that the Angry Friend would only talk to the National Enquirer and no one else? Is it plausible she didn't think of any other media organizations to spill to?

No, it's not plausible. In all likelihood, there are a dozen reporters working for the MSM who got a call from the Angry Friend -- obviously in a position to know -- and were told the whole sordid story. They were fed the story from a "very credible" source, as David "Sucker of Cock" Shuster might term her, and yet still chose to neither report it nor follow up. They chose from the outset to bury the story.

And the MSM will continue covering itself with inglory. There's a huge story yet to tell, so obviously newsworthy it's not even worth debating -- and I don't mean John Edwards 99% likely paternity.

I mean The Greatest Pal a Guy Could Ever Want, Fred Baron, a kinda sleazy trial lawyer paying off his candidate's mistress without, I presume, filing FEC disclosures for his largesse (and of course without telling his good buddy Edwards).

Far be it from me to cast aspersions upon The Greatest Pal a Guy Could Ever Want, but there is almost certainly both corruption and outright illegality going on here, including, not incidentally, the fact that a fundraiser would have had complete control over John Edwards should he have become president. John Edwards would have been the leader of the US -- but only when Fred Baron decided to let him be. It reality, it would have been Fred Baron making any decision he had a personal, or financial, interest in.

This is obviously important and newsworthy. But then, I thought Edwards' affair and love-baby were pretty important and newsworthy, too. The MSM could attempt to redeem itself by pursuing the Fred Baron story, but I think they'll choose to keep the story as sleazy and sexual and personal and trivialized as humanly possible-- having embargoed the story thusfar, they will attempt to confirm their previous judgment that the story was unimportant by deliberately tanking a crucial story that would expose their judgment as hopelessly naive.

They also want to Protect Barack, of course, and it won't do to have a Democratic contender exposed as both corrupt and so compromised by his sexual urges as to be a bona fide national security risk.

Reille Hunter/John Edwards Sex Tapes! Well, not really. But a lot of Edwards' language is suggestive.

You Know Who I Want To Hear From? The Angry Friend. I want to hear her name every single MSM Sucker of Cock she gave the story gift-wrapped to.

1 Ooo, new word - cocksuckerish. I like it!

How come Woodruff didn't ask Edwards:

How many times have you met with Hunter since you revealed your affair to your wife?

Have you met Hunter at this hotel before?

Posted by: grc at August 09, 2008 02:44 PM (h4JIA)

2 Didn't he see Fatal Attraction?  Jebus pissing off the mistress is never a good idea. Granted it many not be possible to avoid it but going out of your way to publicly slap her around, especially when she's still playing ball, is just dumb.

He must think she's soooo in love that she'll just wait her turn quietly while he drags her through the mud for awhile.

What a jackass.

3 Enquirer editor Barry Levine was just on FoxNews. He's saying the same thing editor Perel did yesterday on hannity's radio show.

They both say that they're certain Edwards is the father, and that he orchestrated the payoffs, so he's still lying, bigtime. Stay tuned.

4 grc, just going from my memory of last night's interview, I think Woodruff did ask about the several recent meetings Edwards is supposed to have had with Hunter.

IIRC, Edwards answered by just talking about the meeting where he got caught, and Woodruff didn't ask further about the other visits.

Posted by: stace at August 09, 2008 03:00 PM (JO0c/)

5 This is why I keep on reading this blog. You've got such a way with words, Ace.

Jeesh. Then why pretend you are conducting an interview?

7 If anyone had any balls, every time Edward showed his mug, they would play Love Child.

8 Baby Mama's paid off.  As long as the checks keep coming, she won't allow a blood test on her daughter.

Edward's is safe as long as he keeps Baby Mama happy, and he knows it.

Of course, pissing her off will have drastic consequences, checks or no checks.

9 This is pretty sad for the girl.  Behind the scenes, fat wives are often terrible sexually, and most cheating in marriages is partly the fault of both parties (not that Edwards isn't a collosal douche).  Whether this is the case for Ms. Edwards, it's likely that Rielle was told that John's wife was not there for him.

For Edwards to use her like that (and of course, pay her six figures of campaign donations for shitty webcam work), and then let the world think she was just fucking him for nothing but sex, has a child with another married man, and basically ruin her life, deny any love (and we all know he professed to her in bed), and etc. etc. has to be maddening.

For Rielle, she's got a kid she needs to feed, one that the father denies, and she has many other concerns that prevent her from commenting on John's sick comments about her.  She's unable to defend herself from slander.  Not to mention she probably still clings to hope that the rich douche will marry her when his wife dies (he obviously will move on to other chicks).

For rielle's sister, though, it's just obvious that Rielle has been used and discarded and called any name in the book for even the 1% shot at helping Edwards slightly.  She clearly knows that Rielle did not sleep with Andrew Young, or she wouldn't ask and risk proving to the world what a slut Rielle is.  Of course, they better choose an honest tester.

One thing the democrats always forget is that Bill Clinton slandered Monica too before the DNA on the dress proved he did have sex with his intern.  She was powerless, and he wanted to squash her like a bug after getting his use out of her.  For both these guys, they likely have had many mistresses, and probably a couple of fatherless kids out there.

but for John, it's a bit worse because he used his wife as a way to garner votes.  Paraded her around, whines about her illness, insisted he was a great husband, and it was all a lie.  he used his wife just as he used Rielle... without any concern for their personal welfare.

Of course, if his wife knew about this affair, and John was still having Rielle film him personally, then she had to know it was ongoing.  That's sick.  She was willing to let America elect a lie.  She's an asshole for that, though I feel sorry for her.  All those web videos where John asks Rielle if everyone knows what they do behind the scenes and giggling have taken on a more obvious meaning.  He loved getting away with being a scumbag.

12 One thing that really pissed me off about the interview last night was Edwards kept saying 'it was a tabloid' or other derogatory shots at the Enquirer as if it some how lessened the impact of what was happening. Woodruff never once said, 'be that as it may, they were right and you were lying'.

But that wouldn't have gone over too well at the next guild meeting so Woodruff just sat there and let Edwards run down the paper. Of course Woodruff didn't mind getting a big story off their labor, he just wouldn't give them any credit or protection.

Cocksuker.

She will write a book.

16 I don't think Hunter has to be worried about the money being cut off. I'm sure she is just being allowed to stay at the house. The monthly checks would still come in if she sues for child support based on his income. Plus, Edwards should pony up for a place for his daughter to live.

26 A side issue i find remarkable is how the leftosphere treated this scandal all along. The few lefties who were trying to sound the alarm, like Lee Stranahan and Sam Stein, were vilified by commenters, and Stranahan was banned by Kos. I wonder how the Kossacks feel now it's clear that Stranahan was right--I bet they still hate him for being right.

When the shoe's on the other foot, I think righties react differently. If, for example, last fall righty bloggers had been sniffing out a brewing scandal involving, say, my guy Fred!, I would sure as hell want know about the scandal before the election got too far along. I'd be begging them to investigate, not banning them.

27 Thanks to tsk9 for mentioning Sam Stein--Stein has a new post on HuffPo saying that Edwards lied last night about how he hired Hunter. Stein says the affair was well under way when Edwards hired her, so his organization basically paid her all that money to make it easier for them to sleep together.

So....was it Silky Pony's affair that the LA Times was hiding?

A major sex scandal story involving one of the leading presidential candidates is believed to be soon published by the LA Times, Big Head DC has learned. Details are slowly trickling in through people who’ve heard about the story, and with Larry Flynt saying he’s set to reveal a “huge” sex scandal story involving a sitting senator in the coming days, the rumors seem to be gathering traction

Hunter's a slut, plain and simple.  She's no less guilty of adultery just because she couldn't get anyone to marry her.

That child was a lifetime meal ticket to her.  Knocked up by a millionaire?  By accident?  O yeah I believe that.

And if she just had that baby out of love?  What an idiot.

And if she just had that baby because it was the right thing to do for the child?  Why how precious.  But uh, shouldn't you have thought of a few values before you picked a married sperm donor?  Shouldn't you have considered those lofty morals before you hopped between (at least) 2 men's beds?  It's a tad late to rely on nobility as a defense, Dear.

Fortunately for her, she is currently a virtual saint thanks to circumstance; she's being out-slimed.

But, let us not forget she's a real piece of work and is as culpable as Edwards.  2 Wangs don't make a Right.

Posted by: grc at August 09, 2008 06:56 PM (h4JIA)

32 Edwards offers to participate in a paternity test, but Hunter won't have the child do it. Reckon this is a condition of her and the kid staying on the Edwards/Fred Baron gravy train?

Brilliant tactic. Exactly what we'd expect from a sleazy cocksucker like Edwards.

Ok, this is how this should play out. Reille and John goes on Judge Hatchett for the DNA Paternity test. Judge Hatchett uses some of her wonderful intervention strategies to rehabilitate John from lying, cheating, and becoming a 'baby daddy' outside of his marriage. Judge Hatchett should then have Reille in classes teaching her how not to commit adultery, because we all know that John will NEVER MARRY her. So what is she waiting for, those checks are going to stop now that the spotlight is on, so she better get child support now, and not try to use public assistance. LOL

Posted by: Right at August 09, 2008 08:43 PM (I0dWS)

34 Rielle Hunter's attorney, Robert Gordon,  is part of the leftist political scene and worked for John Edwards on his presidential campaign.    Supposedly, he is stating today that Rielle Hunter will not consent to any paternity testing.

Gordon seems like a pretty high-powered attorney to be involved with a paternity case like this but, undoubtedly, Edwards is trying to cover himself on this situation.  BTW, the Center for American Progress is a socialist political organization that is sponsored by George Soros and headed up by a clintonesta  John Podesta.  Podesta is the former Chief of Staff for Bill Clinton.

Here is Gordon's bio:

Robert Gordon, Senior Vice President for Economic Policy at the Center for American Progress, was the domestic policy director for the Kerry-Edwards campaign. Previously, Robert worked for Senator John Edwards, first as his Judiciary Committee counsel and legislative director in the Senate, then as the policy director for his presidential campaign.

Prior to his work on Capitol Hill, Robert was a law clerk for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and a Skadden Fellow at the Juvenile Rights Division of the Legal Aid Society in New York City. Robert also served in the Clinton White House as an aide to the National Economic Council and the Office of National Service, where he helped craft the legislation creating AmeriCorps. Robert graduated from Harvard College with highest honors and from Yale Law School. He is also a nonresident fellow at the Brookings Institution.
