So Senator Obama, When Was The Last Time America Met Your High Standards?

Gee, I wonder why McCain's "The One" ad resonated with so many people.

That video is swiped from Hot Air which has a rundown on the Obama's (Michelle's too) history of pointing out America's deficiencies and The One's manifest ability to heal them.

Unfortunately for Obama America has a fairly long history of rejecting African America, arrogant and liberal candidates who run down their country. Just ask Jimmy Carter how he enjoyed his second term or Walter Mondale, Michale Dukakis and John Kerry how they liked being President at all.

Below, the latest from the fall Slublog Collection.

2 America will say on Nov 4th - "that's not the Obama that we knew"

3 I'm really tired of his shit.  There are lots, LOTS of things that are truly great about America and the people who live here.  Saying that we're not as great as we once was (the fuck does that mean?) is truly elitist bullshit.

4 We're not as great as we once were.  WE'RE FUCKING GREATER!

Posted by: Trimegistus at August 07, 2008 12:16 PM (V7sy6)

5 Uh-huh, so now it appears that maybe--just maybe!--Michelle meant exactly what she said when she bleated that she had never been proud of America until now, despite the wailing and teeth-gnashing and whatever damage it does to the pair of poor, unfortunate, waifs she's raising.

I respectfully submit to those who are so discouraged with this country and feel it necessary to denigrate it constantly that they strive to find another locale in which to vent their frustrations.

I further will donate the first $20 toward an appropriate exit ticket.

8 As if the well-being of this country can be judged by an individual like that.  Fuckin A.  If we're happy, we're doing ok.  I take more seriously the opinions of the 300 million people in this democracy, but what do I know, I'm just a citizen.

Posted by: Dr. Chopper at August 07, 2008 12:29 PM (vjl9g)

9 Maybe he is right in one respect. The fact that he, an empty-headed, empty suit dipshit, can be a presidential nominee, shows a certain decline in standards.

10 I'm curious, when exactly was the era of greatness that Obama is pining for? I'm guessing 67 to 72 or thereabout. Well, I was smack dab in the middle of it. It mostly sucked .

The country was on the verge of meltdown . There was a lot of ugly racial hatred . My father was in Viet Nam for two of those five years . The first tour during the Tet offensive and the second culminated during our humiliating withdrawal . That era of peace , love, and near anarchy broke my father's heart and my family's bond . Any one who wants to go back to the 60's or 70's is a fuckin' idiot.

Trimegistus has it exactly right. We're fucking greater.

I don't get it.  When was this golden era of greatness we've lost?

Posted by: electricferret at August 07, 2008 12:48 PM (kKO7A)

12 1830.  That's my best guess.  Around then, the government still largely resembled the one set forth in the Constitution.  If anyone has the time to read Tocqueville's Democracy in America (written about the USA in the late 1820s and early 1830s), you'll come away with a thorough appreciation of American government and enterprise.

He means the Clinton Administration. And before that the Kennedy/Johnson era. (we won't talk about the period from 1976 to 1980).

14 Keep talking, dipshit. Somewhere McCain is rubbing his twisted little palms together with glee. Picture Mr. Burns, except shorter. Or an aged Beavis performing a bad-tempered parody of a celebration.

15 "aged Beavis".......man that's priceless

Posted by: Wilhelm Klink at August 07, 2008 01:37 PM (GGhvX)

16 1830 sounds as good as any. Of course, it would help if you were a white property owner at the time. Anyone else might have had a different take on things.
I definitely wouldn't want to have been Obama in 1830. Not too many half Kenyans at Haaaahvad during those golden days.

Posted by: aubrey at August 07, 2008 02:00 PM (P96YG)

17 He means the Clinton Administration.

I doubt it. He attacked the Clinton years during the primary at times. And if that was the Golden Age, why run against the woman who was there for it all and had the blessing of Clinton himself?

Nah, he's just making shit up. Again.

18 Maybe Slublog can edit "The One" conclusion to correctly depict Obama as Pharoah commanding his armored chariots to defy God Almighty, persecuting all of God's Children.

He was asked by a 7-yr old child why he was running for President, and instead of giving the little girl and inspiring answer about service to his country or countrymen, leading the people who vote for him, or hell even fighting for the Democrats ideas, etc.

The POS stutters thru some dismal despairing explanation degrading America that once again comes back to HIM saving this world.

Only a retard would vote for this POS to be the representative of the USA to the world.

20 This is the guy who claimed he wanted to model Reagan's optimism and sunny campaign style?

Posted by: Christopher Taylor at August 07, 2008 03:14 PM (0+Ggj)

21 Well he did write "The Audacity of Hope". Maybe what he meant was "The Foolishness of Hope Until You Elect Me and I Tax the Crap Out of You to Pay For Some Insipid Government Programs that I Will Owe to the Chicago Cronies Who Helped Me Along the Way".

When are people going to see through this guy and what he really stands for.
