Obama Addresses Reason For Skipping Visit With Wounded Troops In Germany

Obama says once the military said his political advisers couldn't come with him, the campaign realized the visit might be viewed as a political stunt, even if he went alone and without press.

"We had scheduled to go, we had no problem at all in leaving, we always leave press and staff off -- that is why we left it off the schedule. We were treating it in the same way we treat a visit to Walter Reed which I was able to do a few weeks ago without any fanfare whatsoever. I was going to be accompanied by one of my advisors, a former military officer."
Continued Obama, "And we got notice that he would be treated as a campaign person, and it would therefore be perceived as political because he had endorsed my candidacy but he wasn’t on the Senate staff. That triggered then a concern that maybe our visit was going to be perceived as political. And the last thing that I want to do is have injured soldiers and the staff at these wonderful institutions having to sort through whether this is political or not or get caught in the crossfire between campaigns."

According to a story by NBC that 'former military officer' is retired Major General Jonathan S. Gration.

Pentagon officials say Gration was the campaign's point of contact at Landstuhl in arranging Obama's visit and "got torqued" when he was told he would not be permitted to join Obama. It was Gration who later suggested to reporters that the Pentagon short-circuited Obama's visit.

So, did a retired General's hissy fit lead to Obama canceling the trip? The military maintains they were more than happy to host the Senator so long as no one from his campaign was there. That's apparently the way they've handled visits by other candidates. Obama has made visits like this before so why suddenly did this one become so different?

4 This event has helped me actually believe Obama when he says he went to his black liberation theology church for over twenty years and never noticed the were teaching racist, anti-American hatred.

Indeed, it is believable Obama never noticed. I'm increasingly certain he attended church just for the show of it. "Look at me - I'm a good person, attending a black church. Associate with me. Love me. Cherish me. I'm a black church person."

While I'm sure he was occasionally perturbed at all the excess attention given to some dead guy on a cross which could have been more effectively given to a good looking young man like himself instead, he certainly was too wrapped up in making sure he was sitting tall, smiling at the right people and looking contemplative and inspirational. That takes effort, especially when there's all that shouting up at the front of the church.

Given a lack of an opportunity to shine and be loved by his millions, a private moment with a wounded soldier with no campaign operatives to report it was little more than a tree falling in an empty forest.

Seriously. It really is starting to look like he's a figurehead of monstrous proportions. Here's the thing though. If there's a strong leader, which Obama clearly is not, then he/she can clamp down on the advisers. But a situation like this where the leader is weak will result in vicious backroom double-dealing as people behind the throne seek power for themselves.

Look at historical monarchies where the king was weak. Invariably a strong leader rises to the top to take control.

The only question now is who?

Apparently patriotism wasn't strong enough to overcome the lack of photo-ops. He just took his place alongside Kerry with me.

Nothing wrong with that and it helps McCain, but it does kind of make the conflicting claims a bit more understandable. The guy's got a horse in this race, so of course he is going to spin it, intentionally or unintentionally. Sorry to kill a topic by posting wedding dresses about it ad nauseum, but my God(!), I can't believe that wedding dress there was a time I preferred to use Qwest - that is, until Qwest DSL started giving me some problems. After abandoning Cox for two years because of the crappy wedding gowns service they gave me wedding gown in three different locales, the prodigal son returns - and it is great to be back.

Apparently two years makes discount wedding dresses all the difference. Cox has completely revamped their customer service. Sure, they have some snarky automated bitch cheap wedding dresses when you call tech support, but - and this is a tip for all of you Googlers out there who can't find simple wedding dresses this - if you're calling Cox tech support and want to bypass the automated system, just say informal wedding dresses "Technician". Apparently, that's the secret word and Cox's automated doorman lets you pass through the pearly gates to,bridal gowns surprisingly, competent tech support and dude's who really don't mind too much when you have bridal dresses a problem.

I had to call Cox twice yesterday, and unlike the horrible time I had with Qwest, they actually fixed my problems both times. It's almost as if they know what they're doing.

And as for speed; I had bridesmaid dresses to always assumed DSL was comparable stricly because with DSL, you're not sharing your network with anyone. I was wrong. Despite what other sites may tell you, cable broadband is way faster than DSL. Clocking my mother of the bride dresses download times, it's about 400% faster with Cox than it was with my DSL. I'm not exaggerating.

Of course, I also purchased their top tier bandwidth speed; at the basic package, it may be more plus size wedding dresses comparable. However, for a web designer, 400% faster means a lot more work is done in less time. And for a guy who actively loves to stream media, holy shit.

Anyway, I'm done now. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't a guy who only complains, but also compliments. Kudos Cox - ya won me over.
