| Obama Foreign Policy Adviser: The Messiah Isn’t Naïve, He’s Just Stupid Or SomethingRemember Obama’s AIPAC speech where he said "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided” and then had to back track a day latter when he realized that pissed off the Palestinians and overturned like 40 years of US policy? Turns out that’s not proof of anything bad about Obama’s foreign policy judgment and experience, such as they are because words don't matter unless they are helpful to Him. Otherwise, don't worry about it.Democrat Barack Obama misused a "code word" in Middle East politics when he said Jerusalem should be Israel's "undivided" capital but that does not mean he is naive on foreign policy, a top adviser said on Tuesday. …Daniel Kurtzer, who advises Obama on the Middle East, said Tuesday at the Israel Policy Forum that Obama's comment stemmed from "a picture in his mind of Jerusalem before 1967 with barbed wires and minefields and demilitarized zones." "So he used a word to represent what he did not want to see again, and then realized afterwards that that word is a code word in the Middle East," Kurtzer said. This is supposed to make people feel better about Obama’s grasp of key issues, how exactly? The fact that someone didn’t know that ‘undivided’ or ‘divided’ would set off a firestorm on one side or the other when applied to Jerusalem should disqualify that person from blogging on the subject. But here’s a guy running for President on a platform of being the superior candidate when it comes to diplomacy and it’s no big deal he didn’t know what he was saying? Also, this wasn’t some off the cuff remark, it was part of a major speech to a group he knew he need to score with and yet this kind of slapdash language gets though? Remember, this is Obama’s national security and foreign policy team… ![]() Comments1
Barack Obama: And my committment to Israel is simple: I want to see Israel razed. Razed completely, razed thoroughly, razed until the problems of the region are solved. ... Daniel Kuertzer. The Senator meant "raised". Somebody fiddled with Senator Obama's spellcheck. Probably a neocon ... Posted by: Barack Obama at June 18, 2008 09:26 PM (UeP9e) 2

IIRC, Obama was speaking in front of a Jewish-ish lobby at the time, so I doubt this is anything more than typical pandering. The only difference is that the pandering was reported to folks outside of the audience, which isn't normal SOP. Get with the program, MSM! There's a Messiah to annoint! Good thing Barry was showing off his package to the cute little female reporterettes rather than reading up on this subject. I think it just makes him look a lot more Presidential. A President with large bulges is really cool. See, he's not an empty suit, not with his crotch bulge. What a Presidential Type President. Posted by: Rev. The post said ''I am not sure which one Kurtzer is.''
Eeyore of course. What else, after all, he's a jack-ass-o-crat -- ah, ah, I mean a donkey-crat -- ah, ah, I mean a democrat; but I repeat myself. Posted by: Don, aka Granpapparazzi at June 18, 2008 10:21 PM (87pUN) 7

What's the code word for "I'll say whatever it takes to convince people I support their cause, whether I do or not, whether it is an admirable cause or not"?
It just shows how racist AIPAC is. They should have taken Obama's pandering speech in good humor and shut up about it, instead they're picking nits trying to find out if he means what he says or even knows what he says. Posted by: Potosi Joel at June 18, 2008 11:33 PM (TPRbZ) 10

"This is supposed to make people feel better about Obama’s grasp of key issues, how exactly?" It is naive of you, Potosi Joel, to assume that the average voting American has more of a "grasp of key issues" than a gnat or common Obama supporter. Facts get in the way, facts get ignored-that's the bumper sticker explanation for the existence of the Democrat Party. Posted by: CozMark at June 18, 2008 11:55 PM (D8t7R) 12
What's the codeword for jerkweed ?
I have to assume that the speech was written by some low-level staffer that has since been put on leave (until we forget all about this). How do we know if Daniel Kurtzer really works for Obama or isn't some low-level staffer filling out another of those questionnaires while Obama is outside puffing away on a few dozen cigarettes ? Posted by: Neo at June 19, 2008 12:19 AM (Yozw9) 13
Capt McKay:
All right Callahan, button your lip, that's an order.
Harry Callahan: Captain, if you want to jerk all these people off, you can, but don't do it with me. Capt McKay: That's it, Callahan. You just got yourself a 60 day suspension. Harry Callahan: Make it 90! Posted by: Neo at June 19, 2008 12:30 AM (Yozw9) 14
Wow. This just fills me with hopiness. If only the Palestinians and the Zionists (oops, excuse me, I didn't know that was a "code word") . . . er, Israelis, could embrace changitude, then they could SHARE undivided Jerusalem in a modern and reformed Middle East that had become the change they wanted.
Or some such fucking thing.
Can I be president, now??????? Posted by: Respawn at June 19, 2008 01:27 AM (psDTW) 15

"...a picture in his mind of Jerusalem before 1967 with barbed wires and minefields and demilitarized zones." Interesting phrasing...this ALMOST implies he remembers that period. Heck, I less than a year younger than him, and I wasn't even 5 years old at the time. Heck, let's face it, a year after the 6 Day War, the whole Middle East situation was not even in the news until the late 70s... Posted by: JFH at June 19, 2008 03:39 AM (5lUke) 18
Oh oh, you forgot, Piglet can't be on the team. The muslims already condemned him/her/whatever years ago, pork and all that. But ya know, Piglet, I'd hit it, twice. Posted by: navycopjoe at June 19, 2008 03:41 AM (sHvWo) 19
1. This is just a distraction from the important issues in this campaign. 2. McCain is old. 3. You are a racist. Posted by: Obama campaign talking points at June 19, 2008 04:42 AM (QHlJA) 20
If I hear him say the word distraction again, I am going to explode.
The MSM may be in love now, but I am going to guess some of them will slowly wake up and smell the coffee. (Not most, but some, enough to eventually make "distraction" a running joke. Posted by: Harun at June 19, 2008 05:22 AM (9XYsG) 21

The only bright side to a possible President Obama (and I grant you it's small change) is that we will be able to watch the DD's of the world collective heads explode when Obama does basically exactly what Bush has done. He's already backing off leaving Iraq on any timetable, he won't do a damn thing different in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Israel, etc. Apparently, he thinks telling anyone exactly what they want to hear diplomacy. Is this the same guy who was going to cancel the North American Free Trade Agreement and then he wasn't? Then told the canuckis that he only said that to fool the yokels? Then told the yokels he didn't say that, and if he did, it was to fool the canuckis? Is this the same guy who lives across some big lake from canuckistan in a city that does how much business with the canuckis?
And as long as I'm asking dumb questions is it the same guy who doesn't know that North America includes this other country, starts with an M, ends with an O, which is the USA's second largest trade partner? No doubt the MSM has already asked him these questions and been assured by its many fact checkers that Obama knows where Canada and Mexico are and that they are still the USA's two largest trading partners. Piss off number one and two trading partners, and in particular number 1 and 2 suppliers of oil. Obama: Foreign policy r' us. Obama's comment stemmed from "a picture in his mind of Jerusalem before 1967 with barbed wires and minefields and demilitarized zones." I don't know if he was "tired" this time, but I have a sense that some will not be pleased that he is daydreaming about Jewish folk and barbed wire. Sorry, maybe it's time for my nap... ;-) Posted by: TomvG at June 19, 2008 11:31 AM (so5Ew) 26
