Shock: Obama's Position on Iran Evolves, Coincidentally While Speaking Before Pro-Israel Group

Suddenly he's John F'n' Bolton.

[Obama's New Position:] "Contrary to the claims to some, I have no interest in sitting down with our adversaries just for the sake of talking. But as president of the United States, I would be willing to lead tough and principled diplomacy with the appropriate Iranian leaders at a time and place of my choosing if and only if it can advance the interest of the United States. That is my position. I want to be absolutely clear."

Compare that with what Obama said during the CNN/Youtube debate:

QUESTION: Would you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea?

OBAMA: "I would. And the reason is this: the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them--which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this administration -- is ridiculous. Ronald Reagan constantly spoke to Soviet Union at a time when he called them an evil empire. He understood that we may not trust them and they may pose an extraordinary danger to this country, but we had the obligation to find areas where we can potentially move forward. And I think that it is a disgrace that we have not spoken to them."

But now Obama has put a major condition on his willingness to meet with Iran: he will meet only if such a meeting advances the interests of the U.S.

That is not much different from the Bush Administration's position on negotiations with Iran.

"Change you can believe in" has a highly nuanced "don't fix what ain't broken" component, apparently. Who knew?

Yea, he is going to veer back to the center over the next few months.

But, normal people know he's lying about it. The leftwing doesn't, and will always believe their Messiah. When he tosses them under the bus on Iraq, and the other third-rail policies of theirs (gay marriage is on the ballot in CA), they'll absolutely flip out. They're called wackos for a reason.

Is there anything in the world Hussein O was not against before he was for it? The man (maybe) changes his world positions more than a super clean person changes underwear.

As one of Hussein's talking heads just said on the news, The only opinion that really matters is Hussein O's. Glad to see the democrats have accepted they can now kneal at his feet and kiss his a** or off with their heads. Islam is creeping into his administration at 'break neck' speed.

Oh please Sen Chuck Schumer's going to tell Jewish Americans they need to vote for Obama since Obama's peeps feel that Jews owe Obama their vote for 'stealing Africa's diamonds and oil'.

Too bad the Obama campaign had that post scrubbed, wonder if it's still posted at LGF.

12 The problem is, pointing out stuff like this isn't going to matter to a lot of people.  Obama didn't win based on his policy positions - he won because he successfully made the Democratic primary about him and his vapid message of 'change and hope.'  People voted for him because he's Barack Obama, not because he's Barack Obama who believes X,Y and Z.

I hope the McCain campaign realizes this and decides to use some of their advertising dollars to cast doubt on the myth of Barack Obama - who is this guy?  What does he believe?  And do his beliefs and his political actions match his "post-partisan, different-kind-of-politics" rhetoric?  And I don't mean pointing out his personal or political associations - I mean using ads like this:

Cut of Barack Obama mouthing platitudes about a different type of politics.
Narrator: "Barack Obama says he wants to bring a different type of politics to this country.  But every time he's had the chance to make a change in this election, he's chosen the old way:
-headlines about Obama refusing public financing, as he promised
-newspaper editorials pointing out his deceptions on the '100 years in Iraq' comment
-etc, etc.
Barack Obama: Nice words, no action.

Or another ad:

Cut of Barack Obama talking about reaching across the aisle to work with Republicans
Narrator" Barack Obama says as president, he would work with Republicans to tackle the challenges facing our country.  But when he had the chance to put his words into practice in the Senate, he...didn't.  In fact, he voted with his party and the far-left so often that National Journal named him the Most Liberal Senator in 2007.
Barack Obama: Nice words, no action.

Of course, McCain would probably not okay these ads and then criticize them if a 527 tried to run them.

Obama is turning into another John Kerry before our eyes. I think he is toast in November. He just does not have enough support among too man key voting blocks such as white working class, Catholics, women and others.

Yes, the media will launch an all-out assault on John McCain while simultaneously carrying Obama on their backs like the Pharoah of Egypt in The Ten Commandments, but there is a growing discontent among moderate to conservative Democrats and independents. He will not overcome this no matter how many younger voters and blacks he brings in.

I think McCain will win the electoral college relatively handily. There is just too much ammunition for the 527 groups to use against Obama. Notice I did not say the Republicans because I have absolutely no faith in them. But if there was ever a candidate that could be run against his own flimsy record, it's Obama.

It will be fun to watch the liberal blogs after the election.

The problem is that our candidate is more likely to attack the 527 groups than the guy he's trying to beat.  It's New Tone: The Sequel with this guy.

Then the 'terrorists' win. Plus, the sad fact remains that, if the past is any guide, the neighborhoods the rioters destroy will be their own.

Bob Owens and The Weekly Standard want to know why True Friend of Israel Obama opposed a simple, truthful declaration that Iran's Revolutionary Guards were a terrorist organization.

Very simple: because that declaration could and maybe will be used as a legal justification for military action against Iran without further discussion by Congress.  It was redundant for any purpose but that, since the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and other Iranian agencies were already under Treasury and other sanctions.

Posted by: icus at June 04, 2008 01:50 PM (kEbop)

23 Speaking of nonsense,my favorite bullshit phrase of Obama's is aggressive diplomacy. What the fuck is that supposed to mean ? Sounds kind of like U.N. doublespeak.  Speaking to the Iranians -- If you guys don't quit killing our troops with IED's    I'll,   ,,I'll ,,,write a strongly worded letter to president ahmadinejad. That ought to show em I mean business. Without the threat of credible force, it's just empty rhetoric. Something the democrats in general are masters of.

But now Obama has put a major condition on his willingness to meet with Iran: he will meet only if such a meeting advances the interests of the U.S.

Oh, that's a new "major condition," alright...in dead-enderland.  For the rest of us, of course, it just goes without saying.

That is not much different from the Bush Administration's position on negotiations with Iran.

Rather significantly, Ace neglects to quote the next line in the article, which demonstrates just how different the Administration's position is:  Secretary Rice has said repeatedly that she would meet with Iran if it agreed to suspend its enrichment program.  So, Obama will meet with Iran if it advances our interests, which are manifold.  Condi will do so only if she first gets them to agree to what should be one of the major aims of our negotiations.

Diplomacy's hard enough without getting the clueless involved.
