On one hand, this is a man who is at his best when heavily rehearsed. On the other hand, this is inadvisable on just about every front. It's difficult for me to believe he'd do something this unpresidential deliberately.

Especially when one contemplates the fact that a lot of non-unhinged Bush dislike comes from his sounding less than presidential, this is a very risky move if it was planned.

I have a feeling this is just one of those moments, though...

Sigh, with each new flaw, from petty to major, being brought to light, I now wonder how I ever thought I could vote for Obama....oh what the hey, a little rant:

I am getting more and more disgusted with the contrast between Obama's promising to practice a realistic BS-free style of governing and seeing/reading/hearing him behave just like the worst sterotypical (liberal)candiate.

He seems to assume he can convince me that any questionable choice (e.g., 20 years of Wright, Weathermen advisors, shady land deals, how I cling to guns and religion and hate 'cause of tough economic times instead of progressive causes, his lack of actual bi-partisan political sucesses or even attempts, flipping off his opponent, etc. etc.), he has ever made is just fine because by either blaming me for not understanding what is my real problem (whatever it is; racism, false consciousness, bitterness, sins of my ancestors, failure of government, whatever) or telling me my concerns are trival to the real concerns of all "real" americans (who are everyone but me as best as I can tell from Obama's comments....a typical white person's reaction I suppose).

I am a lefty on most social issues (don't kill me!) but since 9-11 I have not been able to vote for a democrat on a national level due to terrorism/nat. security issues.  It looks like I am going to be staying with the Republicans this go-a-round too.

Heh, when I get an attack from the right on my lefty positions (I rarely discuss them publicly) is a nice change of pace from the lefty blogs.  Rarely does the challanger assume that I am taking that position because I am evil or insane or brainwashed (as does my support for Iraq gets from lefties-well at least on the blogs); righties just assume that I am wrong because of X reasons....and sometimes are willing to try and demonstrate that reasoning.  Sometimes I agree and sometimes I don't.  Oh it can get heated and of course there are righties who are just as small-minded as some lefties but that is ok. 

End rant.

Anyway, the middle finger thing has riled up teh office Clinton supporters a bit but mostly they are making fun of Obama running away from the NC debate. Obama supporters do not have any great come-backs for that yet.

I won't accuse social lefties of being evil. But I do think that social lefties generally refuse to study empirical evidence and causality.

Case in point:

Life is hard for the poor and the rich have a lot of money. Agreed.

If we take money from rich and give to poor, the poor will have less hardships. Sounds logical.

So let us tax the rich.

At this point, all tethers to rationality, causality and empirical evidence get broken. Taxing the rich becomes an end in itself, and no further thought is give to whether it is effective towards your original goal of making the life of poor people less hard. No data is studied, no counter-arguments tolerated, no effort is made to find other, more effective ways of reaching the original goal.

Obstinate? yes. Evil? Not necessarily.

Oh, I believe I understand the point; at least somewhat.  For example; I believe in open borders (with minor controls for health, terrorism, and crime reasons) since I believe that people create wealth thus more people equals more wealth. 

So I couldn't understand why people were opposed to simply legalizing the illegals here and then creating a nice tight border with some sort of decent guest worker program & enhanced legal immigration quotas.  Lefties who agreed with me claimed that righties who opposed were haters of all people not like themselves (which did not jibe with my experience) and thus their arguments were to be discounted or not listened to.

Of course, I was unaware (hey, I am a moron & was much more interested in other things at the time) that in the 80's this really had been tried/promised before and all that happened was that illegals became legal and the border situation did not change.  After this became clear to me via blogs, I changed my position (how can I ask people to accept the same deal as before when that deal was not kept?) to secure the border first and then figure out the illegals.

Reaction on the left?  Something akin to claiming I supported child-raping.  Banishment.  Betrayal. Sell-out. 

The righty reaction?  Eh, mixed. From we 'can work with that' to 'agree to disagree.'  But not that I support terrorism or was crazy.

I dunno if that made much sense.  It doe's not matter much anyway as a tiny cog (and a bitter gun-clinging cog to boot) in this political game.  Still the Dem's seemed to have lost me for this cycle at least.

Anyway; I better really get to work.
